NBC has just released the following pictures from the scene of the schooting, and it appears that the weapon used is, once again, an AR-15.

Meanwhile, the SWAT team arrives:

Whatever damn banned firearm it was –

..it just jumped out of the blue by itself into the hands of a sane, law abiding citizen and began shooting at people.

Progressive society with no principles, bad values, ubiquitous medication and its indoctrinated or estranged mal-intended human products has nothing at all to do with the insanity.

Hey Di-Fi – why don’t you get a few big presentation boards and show off pictures of all the over medicated active shooters of the last 20 years?

True the actual Armalite AR-15 or the Colt AR-15 are illegal by name in Cali but any knock offs can be legally owned as long as you only use a ten round mag and install a bullet button on the mag release. The bullet button loophole was almost closed this year but the bill died in committee as a more comprehensive bill that would have outlawed all semi-auto rifles that accepted a removable mag(even rim-fire) was passed. In a surprising moment of clarity Gov Moon Beam Jerry Brown vetoed it.

Just to clarify (to some extent) the absurdly confusing Kalifornia law regarding "AR-15s..."

Unless they just recently passed some new legislation, "AR-15s" are only illegal in Kalifornia if the particular make/model appears on their ban list....which is shown here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberti-Roos_Assault_Weapons_Control_Act_of_1989

So, you CAN legally possess what is essentially an "AR-15" just as long as it's not shown on that list.

Note how Colts are shown on that list...as are Bushmasters...

However, there are quite a few other manufacturers that make lower receivers (i.e., the "gun" part) which are NOT on that list, and thus legal in CA - such as Noveske, BCM, Daniel Defense, etc...who do not mark their lower receivers as "AR-15s."

Then, assuming you are talking about a lower receiver that is not on the ban list, there are other requirements that must be met to make the firearm Kali legal...like you can only have certain combinations of other features (detachable mag, collapsible stock, pistol grip, etc.).

More info here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AR-15s_in_California

Regardless of where you stand on the "gun debate," the law is proof positive that the state is run by morons.

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/11/01/21277650-gunman-opens-fire-at-lax-killing-tsa-worker-and-wounding-others?lite

Actually, it looks like it was an "AR-15" of some sort...

It MAY be this version of the S&W MP-15:

http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_764994_-1_787653_757785_757784_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y

...which is, or at least can be, a Kali legal rifle...but I doubt there is a bullet button installed on that rifle...and that magazine appears to be a no-no (for Kali) 30 rd mag.

The lower receiver, the serialised part the ATF considers to be the gun, has to be "off list" too.   CA has a list of make/brands that are banned, but there are a number of great quality lowers, and incidentally entire firearms too, that are not on the stupid/evil list.   You can also have one without a bullet buton, i.e. with a detachable mag, if you don't have a flash suppressor, collapsible stock, or front or back grips that hang down in too much of a pistol grip fashion.   How stupid is that?

I loved The A Team because it was so over the top.   It was even bigger in Europe especially the UK.

Good video on youtube where they ask Stephen Cannell about that.  He said the show was on at 8 pm and kids liked it so he never would show anyone getting hurt or even dying.  Only the general died in the last episode.  Cannell said they bought footage of a Hughes helicopter (Loach) crashing into the side of a mountain.  The guys climb out at the bottom of the canyon in the flaming wreck and dust themselves off. Cannell said they purposely made it camp.

It's easy to prove that the AR-15 rifle was the weapon used in the attack, all they have to do is ask the gunma...oops, nevermind.

Any semi-auto rifle designed for 5.56 will jam on .223.

.223 simply doesn't produce enough force to cycle the action reliably, turning your semi-auto into a straight-pull bolt-action rifle.

That is simply not true. Try PMC 223A. I've put thousands of rounds through a 5.56 Bushy and have not had a jam either on the range or in the field. In some cases the muzzle velocity exceeds 3200FPS. That is plenty of energy.

Um, yeah, the 5.56 is a more powerful round, but the .223 round produces plenty of velocity, more than enough to cycle the AR-15. I suppose if your gas port was extremely dirty you might have a problem. I have fired plenty of .223 in mine with no problems whatsoever.

HOWEVER. You aren't supposed to shoot 5.56 in a .223 gun, the .223 is built to tighter tolerances and you can get cases sticking in the chamber.

Non-expert Bearing bought a quality Russian-American Saiga semi-auto AK-47 in 7.62.  I have fired about 2000 rounds, all types (inc: garbagey & dirty Russian Tula), not even ONE jam.

A friend of mine has an AR, it jammed once at the range to his embarassment, it took a range officer to get the cartridge out.

Not to nitpick, but that would be a mini 30.  Mini 14 is a 5.56/223 rifle.

Gee, now that you mention it...  I could almost agree it's a Mini-14 Tactical.

https://www.google.com/search?q=ruger+mini+14+tactical&client=firefox-a&...

it just doesn't have the right look for an AR platform

And it's definitely a Mini-14 if it's chambered 7.62x39 SOVIET (NOT Russian!!)  Just being picky about it

BTW:  Mini-14s were a big favorite of police departments some years back ...  Hmmmmmm...

Yeah, can't be an AR cause here's what they really look like:

If you like something in 45ACP, try Auto Ordnance's Tommy gun. You pull that thing out of a violin case, and everyone at the range stops and salivates. Violin case is a misnomer, as it looks like it would take a guitar. But everyone thinks you'll play "Kum-by-yah" and then you go rat a tat tat with one of those things....kick ass!

Except that every one of those Auto Ordnance gun-like things I have ever encountered were jam-o-matic pieces of crap.  I don't know why they come with a 50rnd. drum because you can't get through 10 rounds without the thing locking up on you.  Total piles of crap.  The only thing worse would be a Masterpiece Arms Mac-10 wannabe!

You can have them but they have some goofy magazine mechanism that limits the amount of rounds it can carry or makes the magazine harder to detach or something really queer like that.

10 round magazines and fixed magazine which requires the use of a "tool" to remove.  Normally referred to as a bullet button becasue it has been ruled that using the tip of a bullet counts as a "tool".

This applies to any gun with "evil features".  A standard mini 14 with a regular stock would not need a bullet button. But add the pistol grip, adjustable stock, and flash hider and it becomes a much more dangerous weapon, and therefore is considered an "assualt weapon" and requires the bullet button.  I have personally heard rumors of several such weapons assault or attempt to assult someone, normally if the owner forgets to leash it or lock it up at night.
