Peak Obesity?
Obesity rates have increased at least slightly so far in 2013 across almost all major demographic and socioeconomic groups, according to Gallup's latest study. The largest upticks between 2012 and 2013 were among those aged 45 to 64 and those who earn between $30,000 and $74,999 annually - which 'coincidentally' is perfectly in the cohort that is 'disincentized' to work by the growing shadow of bought votes and entitlements. So, the question then becomes, is the considerable spike in 2013 that is so evident below the "peak" in obesity rates as the government is forced to introduce more haircuts on its foodstamp program? Time will tell...
US Obesity rate is spiking (along with the Fed's balance sheet and stocks...)

(h/t @Not_Jim_Cramer)
Via Gallup:
The U.S. obesity rate thus far in 2013 is trending upward and will likely surpass all annual obesity levels since 2008, when Gallup and Healthways began tracking. It is unclear why the obesity rate is up this year, and the trend since 2008 shows a pattern of some fluctuation.
...
Blacks, those who are middle-aged, and lower-income adults continue to be the groups with the highest obesity rates. The healthcare law could help reduce obesity among low-income Americans if the uninsured sign up for coverage and take advantage of the free obesity screening and counseling that most insurance companies are required to provide under the law.
With the biggest rise in the cohorts that are dominated by the disincentized-to-work..."the single mom is better off earnings gross income of $29,000 with $57,327 in net income & benefits than to earn gross income of $69,000 with net income and benefits of $57,045."
So one wonders... with the foodstamp program being cut - will that mean higher obesity rates or lower?

Oh, SNAP.
Oh fuck no, nothing so simple as that!
They'll next mandate that those Moochacho school meals that none of the kids'll eat will instead be required 3 times daily by America's ever robust and recovering middle class.
Why, you ask, would they not be tossed off upon the SNAP card users, them who get the tattoos and strip club nutriments?
Because picking up a loaf of bread and a bag of rice at a food distribution center doesn't have the cultural affinity and cachet of looting and emptying shelves and thus, is a cultural anathema which Must Be Avoided so as not to Be Insulting.
Arrragh!
Nobody cares about a fucking thing anynore.
"......free obesity screening...."
Standing naked in front of a full length mirror can do the same thing...
BMI is pure BS, you are supposed to gain weight at certain
age periods.
When hunters encounter game to skinny for their respective age the creature is relieved from her suffering.
Except that loaf of bread and bag of rice (simple carbohydrates) is the reason they're fat-asses. If they really wanted to lose weights, they would eat more protein/fat.
I like my bread, but I stick with strictly potato bread. No white or wheat, except the occassional Subway sammich. And that is maybe, once a month. I am not a fan of fast food at all. Can't recall the last time I ate at Mickie D's. And that is a good thing.
But the reality is that most are fat, not just because oi waht they eat. Most of them are just plain all out Couch Potatoes. They don't do anything, but eat and watch the effin boob tube, or play stupid video games.
Cbxer, I regret to inform you that when you are eating potato bread, you are still eating mostly wheat. Only a relatively small amount (~10-20%) of the flour in any bread is NOT wheat, as only wheat flour has the gluten and texture to make a 'normal' loaf of bread. I have learned this lesson the hard way after many, many attempts to make high-percentage potato, rye, oat and barley breads --- the results were inevitably very dense and often outright inedible. Check the ingredient list on your 'potato' bread, and you will find that wheat is the first ingredient.
I am not saying that wheat is necessarily bad, just that one should be aware of what one is eating when one buys a loaf of "potato bread" or "rye bread". If your rye bread has even 20% rye flour, you are doing good --- most have less than half of that amount.
Had a date with a nurse Saturday. She was telling me how absurd it's become. Hospitals buying more man-lifts to lift patients. She said in the past week she has had a 364lb'er, a 459 lb'er and 2 weeks ago a 560 lb'er.She said 320lb women are not unusual anymore. Maybe it's all a plan for mass suicide by twinkies
Cut? That's so funny. ...you know Shummer will pass a bill to give them back pay
Agree, I don't think obessity tells the whole story, it is not just that a higher percentage of people are fatter but the ever increasing number of "human whales"... 20-30 years ago you wouldn't see over 300 lbs anywhere, nowdays on any given Wal-mart I see at least half of dozen of these

I can go one better. How about hospital obesity beds that have poop vacumes built into the wall because no one can roll over nor lift an extremely obeise patient to put a bedpan under them. Even if they did the bedpan would be lost under draping fat. Put patient on catheter, insert anal vacume appliance as needed, no need for diapers nor bedpans.
Putting in a catheter in a 400 lb pt. (male or female) is truly a joy! (sarc off)
if this is your business, then business is good...
At least with a man you don't have to search so hard to find your target.
Is this an allegory for America?
No, it is literally America. America is a poop vacuum.
Had a similar experience at a clinic last week. They asked if patients weighed more than 350 lbs. "Why?" I asked. Because the beds only support 350 lbs. People who weigh more than that have to have the procedure done at the hospital where they have super-strong beds and people who can lift those fat-asses onto them.
This bed maximum capacity issue could be mitigated by making all hospital doors 16 inches wide. If you can't fit, go check in at the soap factory next door.
Wow, that brings back memories from decades ago, when I was very young and on the LONG tour of Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, of a certain very narrow passage that one had to thread one's way through called "Fat Man's Misery". I suspect that they simply had to stop giving that tour due to the number of Jabba the (Pizza) Hutts who started getting literally stuck in it, or who had to turn back due to their girth.
Things like this have a funny way of taking care of themselves...
...and for everyone else, there's Hey Fattie! (Apologies for linking to the puff ho)
I have come to the conclusion this will not work. You can't shame people to lose weight now. Two days a go I was at Claim Jumper having a salad and ice tea and unfortunately sat across from a family massively over weight chowing down an ungodly amount of food. They had paid their bill and were attempting to leave when dad got stuck in the booth. Mom and son were pulling his arms furiously to dislodge him, laughing there heads off. The waitress ( also 100lbs over weight) came over to help too. " I guess John had a little too much today, haha!" the wife was making jokes about greasing him up next time in between giggles. I just stared with my jaw dropped in abject horror. Scenes of a famous Monty Python skit went through my mind.
If I had ever been stuck in a booth I would have told my husband to drive me to the nearest fat farm and lock me up until I had returned to human and left water buffalo form. I do feel sorry for their son, already very overweight, to have such parents. Living as they do will not be funny in some point of his future.
Miffed;)
The thing I really do not understand about overweight people, and I hate to bring up the subject. But doing the Number 2! The smelly one. I don't like sitting on the throne, one of the more despised things I have to do every day. But because I am thin and do not eat a large amount of food every day. it's usually not that BIG a deal.
But BIG overweight, obese people! It's got to be a large smelly affair. I just cannot imagine being like that. I despise it, yet mine are rather small things. I don't even lose a pound on my rather accurate scale, after doing a number 2. I'm quite certain we've all seen the results in public restrooms, after some fat rude SOB did not bother to flush the commode, or the thing just could not flush such a large deposit. It's disgusting, and I could not live like that.
Sorry to broach such a terrible subject. ;-)
I'm waiting all the inevitable comments here! ;-0
Not to mention the fact that they probably can't reach their asshole to wipe it and the shit is going to get smeared all over their ass cheeks. There are so many humiliations involved with being obese. It's an astonishing example of mental illness/self-punishment that there are obese people in the first place.
Ok cb YOU brought this up so it's on YOUR ass! ;-) Though I don't have personal experience in this being a lab rat, I have been told these people tend to run on the constipated side. Elvis Presley has large amounts of fecal matter in his colon. The dr doing the autopsy estimated it had remained in his colon for four or five months. His colon was huge in diameter and was abnormally long. This could have been due to his drug addiction which does tend to produce constipation but I'm sure his reported diet didn't help.
You need fresh fruits and veggies to keep things moving and the average American lives on processed junk. They probably pass ginormous bricks if they pass anything at all and not with out some laxative to help in the process. Going regularly each day means less volume and less strains on plumbing. I guess we need to develop toilets for large livestock people. Kind of fits with the massive size of scooters I see now.
Miffed;-)
I am certain I opened a rather LARGE can of worms with this post. Unfortunately I have to be off for work soon. And sadly, this site is blocked on the computers at work (military base, go figure). I only browse during breaks and luch anyhow. When I get home after midnight, I am sure there will be some interesting comments. ;-)
Yes they stink !
A friend was teasing me for the voluptuous girl I had been
picked up by while drunk. She was very pretty and well rounded and we had real fun. But I drove him to disgust by apologizing : "If not for the smell I`d rather now prefer a fat fuck over a skinny one!"
Oh Dear God, Miffed. What a horrible thing to see while you're quietly eating lunch. That type of scene is becoming all too common.
Fatties are just the beginning of the groups without shame. We are increasingly becoming a country without shame. People's tolerance for their own self-made misery is sort of unbelievable.
Stuck in the booth. There are no words but any normal person would have been mortified. Maybe this wasn't the first time, which is why it was so funny to the wife and kid? And certainly to the waitress, who has gotten used to unwedging the obese customers?
Astounding and right up there with what I wouldn't want to watch while eating.
Here's the ecologically sound way to take acre of it.
More healthy foodstuffs... high protein diets.
Decrease the SNAP money.
Continue with the single parent childhood subsidies
Then eat the little ones.
Problem solved.
The New Donner Pass Diet!
"acre of it" Interesting freudian writing slip...
Soylent Green dude... not Donner Pass, OK?
Well, one should strive to eat more raw food and less processed.
Miffed;-)
If the food stamp program decides what foods qualify, then the solution would seem simple, no? Obviously the rub is that real food costs more in many instances than processed food, but I'm sure that you could still get enough nourishment, despite less calories. The fact that the program doesn't incentivize people to eat healthier ought to speak volumes as to its intentions.
HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa...
I'm shorting obesity. Down to 204 from 237.
a single mom is better off with a mate
She had one after she mated and he left. So she's on her 6th try, now.
More SNAP for mom!
A veritable plethora of subsidies designed to dramatically increase the breeding of those who'd otherwise perish in a purely Darwinian mode.
I'm feeling less and less morally responsible for paying for other people to have as many children they care to have. At one time there was no doubt in my mind that it was the right thing to do and not to question it. Now, I've lost that lovin' feeling.
As between food on your table and the collection plate, the collection plate will run dry
The welfare queen with kids in tow is just an enigma to me.I mean...how to say this... they just dont seem to have qualities to attract men to do the deed. I'm sure my man would consider none of them "savory". So are men just less discriminating today or is there a fee for service arrangement?
Miffed;-)
Forward!
The CDC just needs to redefine the definition of obesity. They could index it like inflation with hedonic adjustments, corrections, and exceptions. They will need to since, "The healthcare law could help reduce obesity among low-income Americans if the uninsured sign up for coverage and take advantage of the free obesity screening and counseling that most insurance companies are required to provide under the law" will cost more than it takes in in premiums. Pretty soon being 5'6" and 300lbs and a blood-sugar of 200 mg/dL will merely be considered "over-weight"; and when you go to the doctor for "loss of feeling" in your legs, feet, and toes, they'll just hack'em off for you.
Clearly an increase in obesity and insurance premiums with the ACA and a decrease in the ability to pay for either is not going to end well.
Inflation adjusted just took on a whole new meaning.
First there was the mandatory insurance
Which led to the mandatory doctors visit
Which in turn led to the mandatory treatment of symptoms
Which led to the disease further propagating
Which led to the dismemberment center's decision
Which led to the death panel's decision
I don't think obesity will ever spike or peak
it's a rounder shape
I am NOT fat, I am just "quantitatively easing" my weight upward in order to stay "healthy" and to avoid a drastic "deflation" in my girth.
But don't worry, I will soon be "tapering" off the fatty diet any day now .... any day now!
Just wait for my official pronouncement!
I saw a woman at Walmart last week that was at least as big as the Fed's balance sheet.
Probably higher as the single moms receiving benefits tend not to be the best mothers in the first place as evidenced by their being single moms relying on public assistance so they will eat as they always have and make any cuts on the family food budget fall on their children who will be fed more cheap carbohydrates.
Sheeeit, noboee tellen me hows I spends da dead predidents cuz I needs mah rock an smack yo.
Looksee heah... Andra, he be likin' dem Twinklies and MickieD's mothafuckah.
Where my Sugarsnacks?
Yo
Fat, drunk/drugged and stupid is the way to go through life in latter day Amerika...
We have entire cities devoted to pursuing the fattest, drunkest, drugged up life possible. Only, it doesn't seem to be working very well.
I just spent a week in Disney and then a few days in Ft. Lauderdale. What a mess. Disney was filled with the fattest people I have ever seen. They all pulled up in the handicapped section with their gigantic cars, got out, walked over to a scooter and then proceeded to mow down everyone in their path to the next food vendor.
Ft. Lauderdale was just as bad in a different way. It's just a shitload of seminole casino's. Everyone waits for their gubbamint stipend and then spends the day drinking, smoking and gambling it right back to the man.
It's pathetic.
Thanks Fonz, you have firmed my resolve never to go to Disney. Ugh.
It was crazy RSloane. I mean sure my daughter had a blast and she got to meet the characters etc. and it was great to see her happy. But my god did she get corrupted by that place, and almost immediately. That place is designed to make you a brainless consumer and empty your wallet on a level I have not encountered. I watched my kids behavior deteriorate incredibly fast. I won't take her back there. Next trip is an outdoorsy trip. I think it's important that she spend time outside in nature upstate NY somewhere. I just have to find the right hotel with all the amenities I require.
Those foodstamps must be really phat
All the confirmation you need:
"As a large amount of capacity was built up by the end of 2011 and in 2012 under the stimulation of broader prospects, and the downstream textiles and apparel sector has remained depressed since 2012, a recession is seen in the SPANDEX industry, which is expected to help slow down the capacity growth of 2013 and 2014."
Clearly, .gov should subsidize the failing spandex industry.
They be fuckin' with the numbahs.
Spandex is only worn by fat people so can't have the Spandex goin' down and Obesity up, yo
5XL....what the Heck is that! I asked the tiny Hipsanic JCP sales lady if she has seen how big the people are who buy these 5XL shirts, and she answered, "It's hard to describe" as she spread her arms wide open.
It is easy to avoid obesity - do not eat anything that comes in a package (can or a box usually). Avoid fast food and fat-free foods. Avoid diet drinks like the plague.
Have a couple of drinks a day and relax. Do not watch TV for more than 2 or 3 hours a day. For more detailed recommendations, you could do worse than try http://diabetesrisk.net/
Live long and prosper
Although I agree with you, now days it is almost impossible not to buy food that is not packaged. And I do not like to cook, period. I am a single guy, and cooking implies I'll be eating the same damn thing every day for a week, to avoid having to toss out excess. Other than a few packaged things during the week, I eat a lot of sandwiches, ramen noodles, and of course fruits and veggies. An apple, or two every day. A banana, some carrots, pineapple, etc. Also drink two to three 16 ounce glasses of vitamin D milk daily, in addition to lots of water. I abstain from sugary stuff almost entirely, except for two lightly sugared cups of Joe daily.
I am 52, 6'2" and weigh between 165 and 170. My weight fluctuates that 5 pounds, mostly on the weekend, when I tend to eat out too much. My blood pressure and pulse are on the low side of normal, no choleserol problems, no prostate problems. My doctor tells me, every year when I go in for a full physical including blood, "your a 52 year old race horse."
I can live with that! ;-)
It's possible to cook and freeze extra servings so you can expand your diet considerably. It's just my husband and me and if we didn't freeze things we'd be in pretty similar circumstances as you. Plus you get to be creative about your cooking and nothing goes into your food unless you put it there.
I agree, your height/weight sound great but the processed food tends to sneak up on you eventually.
My regimen is to walk 50-70 miles and have two days of about 400 calories each week.
Works real well.
Well, I workout every day doing various calisthenics. Push ups, pull ups, sit ups, etc. I try and get at least three bicycle rides in a week, 20 miles or so every ride. And not just cruising rides either. When I ride, I push it. Sprint and relax, sprint and relax. So much so that when I get off the bike, I have to stand still for a few minutes and let my legs recover. Adding the bicycle rides has gotten rid of the dang handles on my sides, that have plagued me for the last few years. Guess it's part of getting older, and as they say, the older ya get, the harder ya have to work to maintain your health and well being.
I've added weights to my workouts. Do pull ups with 20 pounds on my ankles. Do sit ups with a 50 pound dumb bell held behind my head. No pain, No gain.
But most definitely not fat here. And f--king proud of it too. Most generally, I can be found wearing real tight-fitting sport shirts all day, even in the winter. The exercise seems to have made my body more tolerant of temperature variations, as I rarely ever wear a jacket or sweater. Never get sick.
Yeah, I'm doing good, despite eating packaged foods. ;-)
CB, I don't have a problem with packaged foods as such but I have an innate distrust of Big Food. I avoid anything that has multimillion corporation behind it. I do buy packaged foods from small companies. I realize being single is a challenge and though I love to cook with my husband, if I were alone I probably wouldnt find it as enjoyable.
Because I work full time and am as active as you I do a lot of slow cooker meals. Especially in winter. Summer is mainly salads from local seasonal veggies from the farmers market topped with grilled meat ( my husband loves to barbecue and smoke various meats). For me, the key is fresh, simple and well seasoned. Sometimes all we have for dinner is fruit and cheese with a damn good rose( we helped in the harvest) wine while we sit on the porch watching the sun set. I can't imagine just popping a box of Stouffer's Mac and Cheese in the microwave and stuffing that shit down while staring at TV. It's no wonder people are so sick and fat today.
Miffed;-)
I agree, and I do not buy a whole lot of packaged food anymore. Sometimes, for lunch, all I have is an apple or banana along with a glass of milk. I like to barbecue as well, just do not do it much as a single guy.
Speaking of bananas, I wonder how many guys know the well kept secret of them. A banana a day will do your libido and virility a whole lot of good. Don't believe me, try it. Buy six or seven bananas and eat one a day. Keep them refrigerated so they last. Come back next week and tell me the results. ;-)

"Step 7EAT A BANANA DAILY
Bananas are another sexual super food that can help improve sexual function and increase sexual virility. Bananas are high in bromelain and b vitamins, both of which are potent sexual hormone regulators that can help improve sexual function, sexual desire, and sexual virility. Add a banana to your daily diet."
Oh dear God I hope mr miffed doesn't read that! My man is any absolutely horny sex fiend and since I'm on medical leave until late November until my surgical wound is fully healed, he's been taking advantage of me being home. I have tried to keep it at every other day now. I read men lose zinc in their semen so I got him some pumpkin seeds to eat. I think a lot of this is occurring because hes been doing a lot of weight training recently. Probably popping up his testosterone levels. My neighbor came over the other day and mentioned she and her husband hadn't had sex for 13 years. Her husband is a really great guy but is a land whale, eats junk and drinks beer non stop. My husband and I looked at each other baffled what to say to her. They're our age.
I'm not sure if I'm going to do the banana thing CB. I dont need to walk bowlegged! I think he really needs some salt peter! ;-)
Miffed;-)
13 years? Our best friends whom we've known for 20 years are our age and they're asexual, too. I don't have any idea why/how they live like that. They are in good health, attractive and fun. I don't think either of them are seeking anything outside of the marriage but who knows what goes on with people?
Staying together as roommates is nothing that would work in our life. And yeah, I see a definite change in Mr. Jena (for lack of a better term) when he is weight training.
But he does eat a lot of bananas, so I think there's something to that, too.
His zinc loss is your zinc gain !!! Measurable increases of other minerals in your body after the fun ends !!!
OMG! I hadn't thought of that! I've been eating those sprouted pepitas myself. I may be getting toxic zinc overload! ;-)
Miffed;-)
I may be wrong, Hulk, but it is my understanding that the vagina is not part of the digestive system.
Well, slap me silly. I knew I should have taken anatomy and physiology in college!
Miffed;-)
it's mostly math but it is interesting (and not surprising) nutritional (often organic) food does a better job at "filling you up."
DJ, let's keep it real here. Make your health claims about organic foods and I'll let most of them slip by unchallenged, but if you are telling me an organic grape is more filling than a non-organic grape I am going to cal BULLSHIT on you and rightfully doubt just about everything else that comes from your mouth.
you're right, Pizza Man, the physical animal would never connect nutritional density with fufillment.
nutritional density, in part, means nothing else that needs to be in there
but, a couple of examples:
"tomatoes grown by organic methods contain more phenolic compounds than those grown using commercial standards. That study — published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry — analysed the phenolic profiles of Daniela tomatoes grown either using ‘conventional’ or organic methods, finding that those grown under organic conditions contained significantly higher levels of phenolic compounds than those grown conventionally.
Other findings published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry showed that organically produced apples have a 15 percent higher antioxidant capacity than conventionally produced apples"
I should have said organic and local because, as you know, most nutritional density is lost in travel and time
Peak Obesity?
Next up, Gov Chris 'Crispy Creme' Christie of NJ for the "Nays" - stay tuned....
Peak implies obesity rates are finally in decline. *Looks left*..... *looks right*... I see no evidence of that. Let the Obesity Bubble continue!!!
Peak implies obesity rates are finally in decline. *Looks left*..... *looks right*... I see no evidence of that. Let the Obesity Bubble continue!!!
I can guarandamntee you that the fat fucks who sign up for Zero care are not going to sign up for any "free" obesity screening. Besides, there is no such thing as "free". Somebody, somewhere along the line has to pay anything that is "free".
The pharmecutical corporations that manufacture Type II Diabetes medications are about to make another fortune.
a fukushima thread cited the impact of radiation on the population would be higher thyroid cancer, as expected, but one of the surprising effects would be an increase in weight gain...perhaps the body's immune system begins to malfunction in all manner of ways... just sayin
Could be possible.
Of course, it could be that people are nutrient deficient and stuffing their pieholes with all sorts of calorie dense foods day in and day out.
Which would you bet on?
pods
Twinkies, anybody?
meh, the fat slobs in the UK are catching you ol' boys fast. It's almost as if, in spite of the huge geographic distance between the two countries, there was some sort of common maclink.
This is OBESE people, not overwieght people.
We are fucked. Have been for a long time.
Kind of what happens when you eat for calories instead of nutrients.
High calories & low nutrients= fat assed population with chronic metabolic diseases.
pods
Food stamps may play a small part in o'beasiity epidemic, but the work disencentives and general sloth of the lumpen prols are probably more responsible.
But if it does a good first place to start would stopping shitholes like 7/11, fast food and other same such from being able to accept SNAP - it is the worst sort of high packed caloric garbage and to add insult to the fat fucks they are also paying (ahem, sort of paying I guess we are) top dollar on huge mark ups on this crap.
The other option is to grind them up into animal feed.
Man, I am getting hungry.
Is this for real? The new healthcare law may help with obesity because it will provide free obesity screening? Does anyone really need to go to the doctor in order to know they are overweight? WTF is wrong with this country!
It is for real, and as far as what's wrong with this country, I'd say a lot.
My thought exactly. So the cause of obesity is that the fat-asses didn't know they were fat and didn't know what caused their condition? That they're going to switch from bacon double cheeseburgers to a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables?
Why the hell does the government give away money or things of value without expecting something in return? There are millions of tasks that need to be performed and are not performed while at the same time the government pays people to sit around on their duffs doing nothing? As an example, what municipality doesn't need people to maintain parks, remove graffiti, service drainage systems, guard playgrounds, mow lawns, clean pools, maintain restrooms, or stuff envelopes?
Bingo, this is part of the solution. If you want on the dole, then you don't get to sit idle... If society pays you, then you have to at least make a good faith attempt to benefit society, presuming you are able bodied/minded. Set up a progressive jobs scheme (need based) where middle/low class folks get on a list for particular tasks (e.g. lawn mowing, house painting, etc.)... Folks on government assistance have to complete X tasks per month to stay on their benefits.... You might even tie in a feedback system where feedback from the middle class person is required if they want someone to perform the service... If you fail your feedback, then you don't get credit... alternatively or concurrently, you could tie in a rating system for particular folks for particular tasks... if you keep a good rating, then I'd think that would be about as good of a job reference as you could get... I wouldn't think twice about hiring someone who was the top of the list for a particular task...
Of course, it's going to look a whole lot like a modern plantation... which is going to be met with considerable resistance to say the least. Further, this would cut into a huge swath of our service based economy in that the tasks would just be cannibalized from people otherwise getting paid to do it... which then further exacerbates the problem...
This is all conditioned upon there being a bloated social safety net... if there was not, then all of these mechanisms would likely fall in place in a similar fashion, except with less burdensome bureaucracy.
I like it. All sarcasm aside I think I could support this.
We used to have a CCC or Civilian Conservation Corps. It didn't pay much at all, but did provide housing and food to young men, and gave them much needed work skills and on-the-job training/learning.
Of course that was when our country was still mostly German/English/Italian/Irish/Polish/Norwegian/etc and you could trust a man to put in an honest day's work.
Forcing the do-nothings to work would constitute "Slavery" and they don't want that. Plus, would they actually work? Perhaps you'd get one hour of honest work out of eight, if you were lucky. Most would probably loaf around talking and texting on their Obamaphones.
SOZ..What the Hell do you mean the government gives away value without expecting something in return??
You dimwit. The governemnt expects (and recieves) fucking VOTES in return. That's the reason for this whole GD exercize!
Why Stuck, you know the government would rather trade money for an undereducated military murder far away from our domestic troubles so that we can increase the number of individuals who could care less what happens to our currency and thus increase our domestic troubles
Honey, Does SNAP make my ass look big?
Has anyone else noticed that COSTCO has removed the hot peppers from the hotdog dressing station? Is it just my COSTCO or is it all of them. WTF is going on?
Stuck on Zero,
I agree with you, but that's rayciss... [snark, snark]...
MOAR food stamps should solve this problem
It's almost as if they want us to be addicted to processed food and then end up fat & unhealthy so we have to go to the doctor to get some pills...
Plus fatties can't run, crawl, duck and shoot in the woods while surviving in the woods for weeks. Fatties can't fight. Five minutes of combat for people of above average fitness is exhausting. Do you think the fascist government wants us thin?
Two minutes straight on the heavy bag more than wears me out if I am going all out. Two on, tow off, rotating in with a friend. Great excercise.
Oh yeah man, I've got a good routine going on the medicine balls. With my brother it's even better. Then for "rest periods" it's monkey bars, flipping the huge tire, jumprope, or kettlebells (pick an exercise, lots you can do with those). Best method for staying in shape that I learned a decade ago is to never stop. At a minimum you should be stretching or doing unweighted trunk twists or "zombie kicks" just to stay in motion.
Surprised nobody has mentioned GMOs yet. That stuff lacks the nutrition of normal food, and thus people eat more of it as their bodies tell them they haven't gotten enough fuel yet. As GMOs are far less expensive than normal food, this creates a direct link between obesity and poverty. So we should expect obesity to rise as long as poverty is also rising, kind of how we should expect the stock market to keep rising as long as the economy keeps spiraling into the toilet.
Prove GMO's lack the nutrition of "normal" food. BS,, there no studies proving anything close to that.
GMO Corn has 14 ppm of Calcium and NON GMO corn has 6130 ppm. 437 X more.
GMO corn has 2 ppm of Magnesium and NON GMO corn has 113ppm. 56 X more.
GMO corn has 2 ppm of Manganese and NON GMO corn has 14ppm. 7X more
for one (minor) example
and non-GMOs don't kill you - like l-trytophan
agree on the don't accept the ebt at 7-lls, all convenience stores. people who use it turn around and buy liquor and lottery tickets (based on my experience)
try removing not only gmo food but there is high fructose corn syrup in everything!!!! i picked up italian sausage to read ingredients and there it is. that shit will make a porker in no time.
High Fructose Corn Syrup is heapum bad medicine! There have been studies linking HFCS with autism due to the high levels of mercury in HFCS due to the heavy application of pesticides, etc. HFCS is a nasty cycle of many factors [cost being one - it's cheap as shit]; I'm surprised that they haven't put it into embalming fluid, but then again, maybe they have...
With prolonged unemployment and now a reduction in food stamps, the average person can be expected to eat less meat and more carbohydrates. Hence, more obesity.
No sweat.

The results of your test are back, you are Obese, and you need to quit eating so much. Now we will charge Medicare $200. thank you thank you thank you
I just signed up for Medicare and these people are driving me nuts, they want to sell me a whole smorgasbord of screening tests, which the government pays, for, and the telemarketers (is there a health screening for that disease?) make money off every one they sell
Do industrial agriculture methods and GMO have anything to do with it?
Viva Escobar!
Many just don't know. being fat is def much more acceptable in the US than it was 20-30 years ago. Rubenesque was in, in the 1700's. Times change.
A lot of these obese people are on antidepressants, which cause WAY more weight gain than the studies purport to show. Paxil causes 3-5 pounds of weight gain, per the pharmaceutical industry, haha. I gained 25 pounds on it, over the course of about five years. When I quit it (an agonizing experience), the weight dropped off in a few months. I was never obese, but I could see how someone who was already fat could be put over into obesity with SSRIs.
There are lots of meds that cause weight gain. Doctors are in denial; they believe the crap studies, which never follow patients for long. They think their patients must just be greedy, and tell them no way is their weight gain due to meds. Well, it often is.
