Guest Post: Meet One Of The Victims Of The "Economic Recovery"
Submitted by Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse blog,
Have you ever cried yourself to sleep because you had no idea how you were going to pay the bills even though you were working as hard as you possibly could? You are about to hear from a single mother that has been there. Her name is Yolanda Vestal and she is another victim of Obama's "economic recovery". Yes, things have never been better for the top 0.01 percent of ultra-wealthy Americans that have got millions of dollars invested in the stock market. But for most of the rest of the country, things are very hard right now.
At this point, more than 102 million working age Americans do not have a job, and 40 percent of those that are actually working earn less than $20,000 a year in wages. If we actually are experiencing an "economic recovery", then why is the federal government spending nearly a trillion dollars a year on welfare? And that does not even include entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare. We live in a nation where poverty is exploding and the middle class is shrinking with each passing day. But nothing is ever going to get fixed if we all stick our heads in the sand and pretend that everything is "just fine".
What you are about to read is an open letter to Barack Obama that has gone absolutely viral on the Internet in recent days. It is a letter that a single mother named Yolanda Vestal posted on her Facebook page, and it has really struck a nerve because countless other young parents can clearly identify with what she is going through. The following is the text of her letter...
Dear President Obama,
I wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all you have done and are doing. You see I am a single Mom located in the very small town of Palmer, Texas. I live in a small rental house with my two children. I drive an older car that I pray daily runs just a little longer. I work at a mediocre job bringing home a much lower paycheck than you or your wife could even imagine living on. I have a lot of concerns about the new “Obamacare” along with the taxes being forced on us Americans and debts you are adding to our country. I have a few questions for you Mr. President.
Have you ever struggled to pay your bills? I have.
Have you ever sat and watched your children eat and you eat what was left on their plates when they were done, because there wasn’t enough for you to eat to? I have.
Have you ever had to rob Peter to pay Paul, and it still not be enough? I have.
Have you ever been so sick that you needed to see a doctor and get medicine, but had no health insurance because it was too expensive? I have.
Have you ever had to tell your children no, when they asked for something they needed? I have.
Have you ever patched holes in pants, glued shoes, replaced zippers, because it was cheaper than buying new? I have.
Have you ever had to put an item or two back at the grocery store, because you didn’t have enough money? I have.
Have you ever cried yourself to sleep, because you had no clue how you were going to make ends meet? I have.
My questions could go on and on. I don’t believe you have a clue what Americans are actually going through and honestly, I don’t believe you care. Not everyone lives extravagantly. While your family takes expensive trips that cost more than most of us make in two-four years, there are so many of us that suffer. Yet, you are doing all you can to add to the suffering. I think you are a very selfish and cold hearted man, who does not care what is best for the people he was elected by (not by me) to represent, but more so out for the glory of your name attached to history. So thank you Mr. President, thank you for pushing those of us that are barely staying afloat completely under water and driving America into the ground. You have made your mark in history, as the absolute worst and most hated president of the United States. God have mercy on your soul!
Sincerely,
Yolanda Vestal
Average American
These are the kinds of emotions that millions of American parents are wrestling with on a daily basis. Many of them are working as hard as they possibly can and yet still find themselves unable to adequately provide for their families.
And now that food stamps are being cut back, more of them than ever are going to be forced to turn to food banks for help. The following is what the head of a large food bank in Casper, Wyoming told one local newspaper about the increase in demand that he is witnessing in his area...
Across the state, food banks and other related programs aiming to feed the needy are worried the supply to meet the uptick in need during the holiday season won’t meet the growing demand for food caused by the expiration of SNAP benefits.
“People are scared to death of the lack of food availability,” Martin said.
Martin called Joshua’s Storehouse a reliable barometer for measuring the rate of need in Casper. The number of people using the food bank skyrocketed before the reduction in SNAP, he said.
Fewer than 2,000 people used the food bank in October 2012. Last month 2,500 people went there for help.
And of course this is not just happening in rural areas either. Margarette Purvis, the head of the largest food bank organization in New York City, says that she is anticipating a huge surge in demand and that veterans are being hit particularly hard...
"On this Veterans Day, when we’re waving our flags — I need every New Yorker to know — 40 percent of New York City veterans are relying on soup kitchens and pantries."
Purvis says that there are 95,000 vets relying on food banks in New York City alone.
That is a lot of people.
And while Barack Obama may trot out a few vets on national holidays and promise that "we will never forget" them, the truth is that most of the time the federal government treats our military veterans like human garbage. If you doubt this, please see my previous article entitled "25 Signs That Military Veterans Are Being Treated Like Absolute Trash Under The Obama Administration".
Meanwhile, anger and frustration with the economy are starting to rise to very dangerous levels in this nation.
In a previous article, I noted that violent crime in America rose by 15 percent last year. One of the primary reasons for this is the economic despair that we see in our streets.
As the economy gets even worse, people will become even more desperate. We will start to see even more flash mob crimes like we saw in Chicago recently. Posted below is a video news report that shows footage of a flash mob in Chicago dragging entire racks of merchandise out of a Sports Authority store...
When you watch stuff like this, it helps to explain why demand for armored vehicles among the ultra-wealthy in America is skyrocketing.
Unfortunately, most Americans cannot afford armored vehicles and walled vacation homes in the middle of nowhere.
Most Americans are going to have to live right in the middle of all of this as it happens.
A volcano of anger, frustration and despair is simmering just below the surface in America.
When that volcano finally erupts, it is going to be a very frightening thing to behold.

Sad.
There really are only two classes in this country. Poor and Rich.
the king has spoken; now do something; ask the doubletons to take over! Simpletons, like singletons, get trumped all the time.
I know : Minimum wages for all until after Happy NEw year!
6 weeks of free bonuses for the poor, paid by the rich.
Just don't export that junk, what's made in Texas, should STAY in Texas.
it takes me a little longer than 2-4 years to make ofucku vacation money.....
Henry Ford had to hire over 300 workers just to keep one... nobody wanted to work on an assembly line for a living.
The difference between then and now? Debt. Nobody had mortgages or consumer debt back before 1913 and they could simply walk back to the farm/shop/store if they didn't like the Ford gig.
Take a moment and let that sink in...
Walk back and starve. Poverty was a real issue - food insecurity was a real issue. Being a sharecropper is WAY worse than working on an assembly line. Read the grapes of wrath.
They lived in shanty town type huts (unless you were rich).
Debt is the drug that enslaves deeply captured governments & the citizenry that its alleged representatives are supposed to work for.

She seems to have quite a bit to say about a great many political subjects. More like a political activist than a starving mom. But that's just my read. Decide for yourself.
the walled fortresses in the middle of nowhere will work for a short time and then they will become targets and death traps unless they have a small army to defend them. it is impossible to build one of these things without all the locals knowing where it is.
likewise these idiotic armored vehicles the police are acquiring which are a lot of fun to drive through people's front doors when there is no second front nor any chance of one, as was demonstrated recently in Springfield VA. any fool knows, though, that armor cannot operate unsupported by infantry so when the s*** really hits the fan these, too will become death traps and, while acknowledging that this is a contradiction in terms, no smart cop will get in one.
Those tanks the SS have are going to be real popular when the waffen SWAT discovers the proletariat is hammering a simple metal wedge in the door seams and burning the MF'ers.
Word: ainomma
Dear Yolanda,
I wanted to tell you why you think Obama will solve problems you created. You see you are a single Mom located in the very small town of Palmer, Texas. YOU married a SOB and YOU decided to have 2 kids without figuring out how to pay for raising them.
You drive an older car because you are an idiot. Buy a used bike for $50. It won't kill you. Your kids need to learn to walk.
You work at a mediocre job bringing home a much lower paycheck than Obama because you didn't go to college let alone a ivy league. You did not graduate from Harvard law school. You screwed around in school which tax payers paid for and now asking for a handout for upper middle class lifestyle you see on TV.
You are concerned about Obamacare??? If you are so poor then you already qualify for Mediaid.
You are concerned about taxes and national debt??? How much tax do you really pay if your income is so meager?
Everybody struggles to pay their bills...even millionares. only when you have $30M+ do you not have to care about money at all given today's interest rates.
Your kid qualifies for free school lunches. Have you seen a skinny starving illegal alien kids???? they are all fat and so are their parents becuase food is cheap.
If you have rob Peter to pay Paul, you need to stop spending on credit.
"Have you ever had to tell your children no, when they asked for something they needed? I have." So you want taxpayers to give your children free xbox???
"Have you ever patched holes in pants, glued shoes, replaced zippers, because it was cheaper than buying new? " Have you talked to your grandparents????
"Have you ever had to put an item or two back at the grocery store, because you didn’t have enough money?"
Stop buying stuff you don't need at Walmart. No you don't need ice cream and gluten free shit
"Have you ever cried yourself to sleep, because you had no clue how you were going to make ends meet?"
Good thing you are only responsible for your own family. If you were leader of platoon in a battle field responsible for lives of many young men, you won't have an tears left.
SHUT UP YOU WHITE TRASH (LARGEST RECIPIENT OF WELFARE)
the 2010 TANF figures are now available and the annual report, “Characteristics and Financial Circumstances of TANF Recipients,” shows some very interesting developments.
Blacks are indeed still the most numerous group on welfare, PaceNR, with 31.9 percent of recipients. Whites are right behind them at 31.8 percent.
But the big news: Hispanics now comprise 30 percent of those lounging on the dole.
In 2000, the racial breakdown of welfare was: blacks 38.6 percent, whites 31.2 percent and Hispanics 25 percent.
Though still disproportionally represented on the welfare rolls, black usage has gone down relatively during the last decade. But Hispanics’ usage has surged. Whites have remained remarkably consistent at around 31 percent of those on welfare.

Dear Aldous Huxley, you seem to lack the compassion and thoughtfulness of your namesake.
Fuck compassion. Bad choices have bad consequences. End of story.
And here's a thoughtful: stop asking the goddamn State to solve all your lifestyle problems. It's how you get socialism. It won't solve your problems, but it will make everybody else poor too.
Can starving moms not be political activists?
http://ksmu.org/npr/reinventing-dwindling-middle-class-may-take-revolution
You know it's bad when Obama's favorite proxy outlet, National Propaganda Radio, openly airs a piece that dares mention middle class revolution.
Sure they can. I just post up her FaceBook page so you can get some more context. I only question whether anyone has vetted this story.
I am about sick up to here with President Zero citing YouTube videos as "proof" of his claims. So, I have a very sceptical eye for anything that is presented as fact merely because it's "gone viral on the internet." Let's not have a double standard about this sort of stuff just because we may agree with it.
If what she claims is factually true, I have nothing but sympathy. If it is not, however, then what and who exactly are we rallying behind here?
You can't necessarily believe everything you see on Youtube. For myself, the best history of banking and the Fed is "How God Gave Us The Federal Reserve" by Robin Peeples and Owen Lotz.
Fuck Yo(landa). She probably voted for Obama's dumb ass... twice. Reap what you sow and such.
Reading comprehension needs improvement. She did say "elected (not by me)". So she probably didn't vote for Obama's dumb ass, or Balaam's either.
Until someone understands that government is the problem, they are the problem.
Harvest, bitchez:
http://investmentwatchblog.com/fractional-reserve-banking-conjuring-what...
Facts are facts my friend... the number of men hired in order to get just one to stay on the job was actually signifcantly higher than 300 and Henry Ford consulted with bankers to help him figure out a way to 'keep them in the harness'.
If you want to quarrel with my missive, you could argue that the men in question had skills (i.e. were blacksmiths, carpenters, leathermen, etc by trade before being hired) and thus had more options than today's uneducated service workers...
Also, I think you skipped forward a decade or more on me... The Grapes of Wrath was about the great depression - post 1929 - which, as it happens, was after the federal reserve was created and personal debt reared its ugly head.
Nice redirection - I used the Grapes of Wrath because it shows the life of a sharecropper in the 1930s.
What do you think life was like for the black sharecroppers in the South at the time of Ford's assembly lines. Also being from Ohio, isn't the reason the blacks moved to the Rust Belt to get these type of jobs? It's not like Ford was racist or anything - Oh wait - he was and complete anti-semite.
The assembly line jobs were mainly back East in certain cities. I'm sure Ford busted his employee's ass(es) and that is why people didn't want the job.
I won't go into the slave wages that Ford was probably offering at the time. You sort of left that out. Okies would have worked at any price.
Betcha during the depression the Okies would have worked on the assembly line with no quarrel. Also the attitude in the Grapes of Wrath was that the people were willing to work AT ANY JOB no matter how menial. And make their children work to boot.
"Anti-semite!!!" Sheesh.
"...slave wages that Ford was probably offering..." Have you ever read the story of Henry Ford?
R Dawg is both ignorant and argumentative, a very deadly combination. In 1913, Ford announced he was paying his line workers $5 per day, which was double the prevailing factory wage of the time. After Ford workers' wages were doubled, the turnover problem disappeared.
Dawg, why don't you go learn some history before you urinate all over these boards? Come back in say, 18 years, when you've graduated from high school.
So he paid them 5 Morgan silver dollars a day. Worth more than minimum wage even at today's depressed silver price.
It's like this guy's entire knowledge came to him from movies.
So Ford could not retain workers at a price but when he doubled the price he had no problem retaining workers. That was my point.
And by the way I hate everything Ford. Their dull products, the company, and their history.
Try Pearl Buck's The Good Earth. A different culture, but a closer time reference. Worthy reading for both inflation and deflation theorists. Good lessons on choosing a wife, too.
You just reminded me: Grid-EX II starts tomorrow and runs through Thursday. The smartest guys in the U.S. government are planning to simulate a synchronous continential grid failure that darkens Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
With any luck, they'll have the power back on by Christmas. Or at least, the NSA website will be working properly "for the vast majority".
Got generators?
How many times has our govt just happen to be running drills the same time an actual incident took place... Something to watch indeed
@BoNeSxxx
Exactly. That is the problem these days. We are, collectively, beholden, as indentured servents to our debt. Who can cover their "monthly nut" without some monthly revenue these days?
No, the difference was that the majority of the country was farmers instead of the 2% currrently. As a child of farmers, I often heard my parents speak of the Depression as something that hardly affected them since they raised their own food.
I taught English to immigrants and was continually amazed at families who knew neither the alphabet nor language yet succeeded. They lived in a tiny place usually sponsored by a church. Everyone worked and contributed to savings, the children excelled in school and in a decade it's the proverbial American success story. The children had an education (and not in Swahili Compartive Literature) that was used as a springboard to a good job.
But we would never do what these foks did - work 2 or 3 jobs, live in packed conditions, forego new cars, flashy clothes, debt vacations and constant dining out. They started their own businesses and always put their children first. The country of origin did not matter - its was work, save, invest. I still get pissed hearing folks talk about how hard it is when they know the language, alphabet, customs and are citizens who can get federal and state money if needed. It's a matter of will.
I like to ask a few softball questions to my elders about the old days in the last recession in the 80's. This engages them in how hard it was and invariablhearings on the comparisons to the basement dwellers who can't move out.
Eventually I ask them how it would have gone for them if the crappy jobs they took would have paid 20-35% of what they made back then.
One way or another it usually brings an end to the conversation.
You can only pinch do much, when there ain't enough to get it done on, no amount of anything is going to help.
That is what today is faced with, budgets that don't work because there isn't enough.
There are always lazy people but they are not the root of what we are dealing with today.
To confuse the two really cheapens those who have done it right and are still screwed w/o opportunity to tug on some boot straps.
Really? Let's take the food stamp problem which has had 47 MILLION enrollees for over three years now.
How much fraud do you think is in the program? 10%, 20% or 50%?
How many of those able bodied people have refused any job? I would assume a lot. They don't want to work. I see it all the time in the grocery stores - those people with EBT are pigs. There is no shame in it - that is why so many people take ADVANTAGE of it.
Oh the illegal immigrants too. How many of them get food stamps.
Wow, you won't see the ones worth their salt flinging bling. I see the same thing, pretty hard on the principled ones who make right choices to compare them with the dufus heads you describe.
You are correct but we are talking two entirely different things.
I think you might have missed my point.
Infered is devaluation of currency. Theft from inflation on one side and taxes on the other, add to that intentional degradation of people by pushing vice as a means of control, and finally pulling the rug out with inevitably limited opportunity in the final phase and you have a big fat you are HERE arrow.
I do agree with you to a point.
Unfortunately I lived the early 1980s. I joined the military in 1979 because there were no jobs (there were jobs but I didn't know how to go about to get them).
Do you remember Stagflation? The misery index? 20% interest rates for mortgages?
The military at that time was making 20-35% lower than the private sector wages. The military now is well paid compared to those days. There was no GI Bill - they had what was called VEAP - wherein you put your extemely low wages in a fund and the military would match it. But there were alot of strings attached.
I did what I had to do and worked up the ladder. I had no family to rely on - my choice as a matter of pride. I haven't taken dime one from my parents since November 1979.
One of my favorite lines for the millenials of today is that "It is 1979 all over again." I lived through it and so can they (the young of today).
I believe that their Ronald Reagan is out there. We just need to find him.
Your faith in the political system is misplaced sir. The system is broken or rather, the gig is up. I no longer believe the [illusion] of the United States of America. It was that all along, an illusion. red/blue left/right them/us conservative/liberal.... enough already NO PERSON TAKING UP THE POSITION OF US PRESIDENT will fix anything.. at all, period! Stick a fork in it, its done.
You surviving '79, older generations surviving the great depression cannot be compared to the shit storm that is coming. Everyone is fucked... and I, for one, am scared of what is coming even though I have no idea what that will entail...
The consequences of the coming problem are going to be very interesting indeed. As we've clearly seen in the past, some things we'd "expect to happen" based on "past knowledge" will not happen, whereas things "no-one could have expected to happen" (and so were not prepared for) will happen. Sod's Law (or Murphy's Law if you prefer) will reliably translate to a significant waste of money / resources on the "things that should have been needed", but were not needed, and neither money nor effective resources available to deal with the events that "no-one could have expected to happen", but were pretty obvious to anyone with a brain.
Grid Ex is just one aspect of potential future problems. There are a lot more which the general public is blissfully unaware of, ALL of which could cause widespread devastation and death, either directly, or indirectly (via loss of key personnel).
Stop devaluing the dollar. Inflation is eating these people alive. You can chain inflation all you want to make the headline number look tame, but the reality is, it's high. Wages just aren't keeping pace with inflation.
Re: Inflation - if the economy is so bad (I'm not saying it isn't), why isn't there deflation at least in the service sector?
That's what all the digital printing, liquidity injection, 2% inflation Fed target, and effort to create a 'wealth effect' is trying to avoid.
But according to this blog, the fruit of QE and stimulus went to the 1%. So which is it?
It is a natural leaning toward deflation being papered over by liquidity. Yes, stimulus money benefitted the top 1% most, largely because it allowed their assets to appreciate despite the recession. Specifically, the stock market and corporate profits have been protected by printing. Wealth distribution today is about as lopsided as it has ever been in the U.S.
The middle class is being kept in check by tuition and health care rising much faster than inflation, and stagnant wages.
Printing that goes to the Yolanda's of the U.S. is substantial, too, but only lasts until the next rent cycle, car payment, school loan payment, or trip to the grocery store.Yolanda's income could double and her established habits would probably still keep her in about her same situation.
The well-to-do have a critical mass of assets. The older they get, the more work their assets do for them.
The Yolandas of the world know what they need to do, but most just aren't willing to do it.
Stay in school. The 30% urban drop-out rate puts millions into the perpetual struggler category before they are 18. Getting back an escape velocity from that point is nearly impossible. Hint, a GED tells an employer a lot of what high earners never let an employer hear.
Don't smoke or take drugs.
Don't have children until your own future is secure. Secure means you alone are capable of making it secure. That means no babysitting by Mom or Grand-parents, no anything that reveals your dependency on another's income or time.
Buy a dependable, practical used car for cash, and only if you need transportation for work or college.
For college, don't go into debt unless you are in a science or math major. If it's advertized on TV, it's not a field in demand.
Live at home for as long as possible. Carry your own weight as young adult in a parent's home. Save and invest the difference.
If someone is trying to sell you something - insurance, extended warranties, time shares, you don't need it. The things you do need you either have to search out or work for.
The doorway of a payday loan store is a loser's portal. Nuff said.
If your home life looks anything like a Jerry Springer show, you may not have grown up with the social skills to do well in higher-paying professions. Look at what is advertised on that and similar shows. You don't need that stuff.
Most successful people don't have a physical altercation after grade school. Have you ever seen a loser trash talk a winner after a Christie's auction? That's because they walked in as winners and walk out the same way. If you have friends, family, or romantic entanglements who can be volitile, get them out of your life. If they are Mom or Dad, that will be tricky, but you need to break the cycle.
One generation. That's what it takes to get a family on the right path. You need to make that happen, not your president. They did it from Cuba in 1959 after losing everything. They did it from Viet Nam in the 70's, Ireland after the potato famine, Germany in the 1940's, Somalia, etc. They put their effort and money into small businesses, like restaurants, not into a set of low-prifie tires on $800 rims. Half the battle is simply not being stupid.
Start with that modest after-school job. Don't ever complain. Work harder than everyone else. Know that the boss could pay you more, but that's simply not the way the system works. Never talk bad about a customer - that is who the business is there for.
Young people who are on track to higher incomes tend to have a lot of family support. If you don't have that support, fake it until you can make it. Read "Coolidge" by Amity Shlaes. The way he made it through school is how winners from modest backgrounds do it.
Look at who is making it. Are you first chair in the orchestra? Who is? Why are they? Do you think they will ever say the phrase "my baby's daddy" it their lifetime? Probably not, because they have already been on the winning track for a decade or more. For most, it's because their parents have dedicated their lives to making sure they make it. That is one reason it seems you are so far behind. You can catch up. You can be the generation that makes a difference for every generation that follows, but it means doing what needs to be done, which is usually not what you want to do.
That's why work pays. It usually means doing something someone else can't do or doesn't want to do themselves. Once you make it, you will be in the same position.
It can be done. I can't say you can do it because I don't know your character. I do know it will be very difficult to achieve from your starting point now. Lots have done it and most have worked extremely hard to make it happen. As Famous Amos says, "Start from where you are now."
Ever heard of the "company store"?
Not just debt, but you also bring up Options. Most people today don't envision a lot of options because so much is similar and or under private control. There is no farm to go back to.
There is if you purchase one...
5 acres with decent land in most parts of the country can be had relatively cheaply.
My grandmother lived through the great depression on one and never missed a meal.
Many on this site have hedged accordingly.
No, there are "Us" and "Them." There are some rich people who are not members of the criminal elite, and there are a lot of middle-class types who are or are accomplices to them.
I read criminal elite as "commie elite." Goes to show how the Obama Presidency is going..
We can't blame Obama. (sarc)
Red Team Blue Team Red Team Blue Team. Keep f***king parroting it.
As Gerald Celente's dad would tell him in Italian when young Gerald spew what the news would say. His old man would yell at him "Pappagallo!" or parrot!
Gerald learned to ignore newsmedia lies and BS when he was a youngster.
Whitey bleed good.
You lost me at YOLANDA....
I should explain my Yolanda comment a bit - I had a mexican girl friend with that name in the 1980s. She was abused by her Navy husband. I screwed her in the parking lot behind the Horton Plaza in the car and the bums gave me a standing ovation. She wore soo much makeup she looked like a raccoon.
Wow - wasn't that special. You sound like a real scumbag. This woman was abused by her husband and so it was okay that you abused her. You sound like Alec Baldwin.
You misunderstood Dawg, Freddie. He meant that HE was her Navy husband that abused her. He makes Alec Baldwin look decent and reasonable. I think Dawg is that guy that was excommunicated by the San Jose Hell's Angels for bad personal hygiene.
Freddie shut off TMZ goddammit
Tell me exactly how I abused her.
Imminent Cruciable - SHE WAS YOUR MOTHER!!!!!
Where is PaPa, Yolanda?
Some women just can't get enough of that badboy cock. And who suffers? The kids, and society.
Wonder if both kids are from the same father?
Wonder if she's had her tubes tied by now?
I'm going to say 'no' to both questions.
If you rearrange the letters in Yolanda Vestal you get And Toy Save All.
I think that secretly means her kids need a toy for Christmas
You could also form, "Yo vandal esta"

There are only two classes in the world. Debtors and savers.
She's divorced and choose to be. Why should I cry about her? Stay with your marriage, because two are better than one.
Maybe her husband beat the shit out of her, or turned out to be a queen? Who knows, not our business.
What is our business is the destruction of our middle class by the political & wall st oligarchs. They've broken the social contract and now have the audacity to rub our noses in it.
Fuck them... I stand w/ my girl Yolanda!
Maybe, but don't lose the point, which is that the only middle class persons who have had a chance of getting by for 40 years or more probably have 2 wage earners in the home. I think a fair question to Yolanda would be, what do you expect to get from society as a single wage earner (non professional it appears) with a few kids after getting half of your net assets taken in a divorce? I'm certainly appreciative that she's got the determination to work and put her children first, which is a necessary component to them actually being worth a shit and the hallmark of a good parent, but the ship sailed on the middle class decades ago (actually from inception, but I digress).
We don't even know if she had any assets to lose in a divorce. She sounds like she is describing my wife's family struggles in Belarus 50 years ago. The only difference was they were able to escape to America and start fresh. This time there is nowhere left to run to.
I'm guessing that your wife's plight was quite worse... not saying it won't get that bad here, but it isn't here yet (macro). The thing is, throughout the entirety of history, a single parent trying to raise 2 kids is probably going to have a rough fucking time... especially if that parent is a lower wage earner. Granted, obama isn't doing anything but stomping his boot on her throat, but regardless of our present political environment, she probably won't be better off... her consternation is aimed at the magician's assistant instead of the magician.
Yeah it's interesting, I think you are right, in that their plight was worse. But I wonder by the time this one is in the books how they would match up.
I'm not sure the books are ever particularly accurate and, for the poor schmucks who get to live through it, the historians' description is of little solace. As far as how bad it could be, pretty much the sky's the limit... who knows.
As far as I could tell all she is saying in that rant is: "Don't Tax Me Bro"
Which is commendable.
Which is strange because she likely qualifies for complete subsidy of her premiums and probably already doesn't pay shit in taxes... possibly even ends up net ahead with EIC and the buffet of other refundable credits. I can definitely understand her apprehension, but at this point she probably knows little or nothing about how anything will be implemented (no one does) and, in fact, may be the type of person who ends up better off because of it...
But, the fact that she's complaining in the dark is a positive sign... she feels like something is wrong, but hasn't quite got her finger on it... she's started the journey at least.
She gets at least $3,500 in Earned Income Credit (A check from the IRS) yearly - cry me a river.
Exactly
In all liklihood, this is a two-wage-earner household, but one of those wage earners is not allowed to live there anymore, cuz he got divorced, kicked out, and had his wages garnished for child support. The child support will be reported as HIS income, not hers, so she can still qualify for free shit.
Either he pays it or she gets it from uncle sam... and the latter is generally much more likely despite the threat of imprisonment for deadbeat dads. If she's working then I strongly suspect she'll have the overwhelming majority of tax donkeys' support in getting on some government programs to help supplement... so, if she's refusing to, then that's on her.
MachoMan,
The middle class were shopkeepers----they got paid--no taxes--and free lunches---no sympathy for the middle because they did not make a difference nor lift a finger in protest
but---------
i think the letter was a hoax--
something tells me that yolanda did not write it
i am, however, sympathetic with anyone who does not have food
and just because she may not have written the letter
does not mean that that the letter was inaccurate
THIS NEEDS TO BE SAID, WRITTEN, AND SEEN EVERY DAY UNTIL HEADS COME OFF
the middle class is never going to lift a finger----do not wait for them
Atlas shrugged and pissed in her cereal
Nobody wants to ask questions like, "If you lack education, skills or experience, what in the hell can you do except a minimum wage job?" Do I need to point out that the vast majority of single moms are undereducated, underskilled and under-experienced? Whether from political design (to ensure dependence and party votes) or cultural trends, it doesn't matter. Having a good economic life requires preparation, effort and constant work - something extremely difficult to do after a certain age.
Parents on the other side of 30 without any preparation whatsoever (education, skill, experience) should realize what immigrants do. They may not "make it" but if they try hard and sacrifice, their children will. That's what every generation has done.
Single mothers that can't fuck very well don't have husbands (and are alone)- that is why they don't have a man. Just another skill she doesn't have.
Go ahead and down arrow me - I deserve it.
More accurately, the pussy isn't worth the hassle... of course, it could be no fault of her own as well... but, generally speaking, divorces take two to tango.
Divorce only requires one, not two. Refusing to divorce just stretches out the legal process. And the vast majority initiated by women. Nope, she's a self-created victim. She chose to be a single Mom.
Go ahead down arrow me. But the truth hurts.
Top shelf pussy is definitely worth the hassle, especially for the vast majority of men who don't get any.
The problem is in the single mother's choice of men - some women seems to pick the bad boys and the children pay for it.
"Top shelf pussy is definitely worth the hassle"
...says the guy who screwed the raccoon in the parking lot.
Oh shit, that's funny! +100
Actually it doesn't. It only takes one to use the state to abuse and steal everything in spite. That is the reality of today. Wrong, but what it is.
Maybe her husband beat the shit out of her, or turned out to be a queen? Who knows, not our business.
The media would have asked and made her a flaming victim if so. And if you read the details, their son lives with Dad. Never would have happened if he beat her.
Did you look at the facebook page? She is a chubby - and not starving.
Lets say he did, it would just be one more bad choice she made and bad choices are the source of her problems. Want me to have sympathy show me someone that made good choices and is in trouble.
"She's divorced and choose to be."
Moron.
Yeah, what a looser.
your wright.
Well, I have to admit I'm tempted to call her a loser if she voted for the man. May be I should be nice and call her an newly enlightened loser who is potentially waking up in the future.
Miffed;-)
She didn't vote for the man. But if the other man won the election, her note probably would have started something like this:
Dear President Romney,
She said in the letter she didn't, probably one of the few Yolanda's who can say that.
The ones dissing her are no different than Obama...you have no clue how tough it is.
Just to put it in perspective, however though it may seem for her, many millions around the world would jump at the occasion of trading places with worse than her (many of which would never even dream of such conditions, in many cases because of decades of "western" policies ruining their chances of ever reaching them in their lands, for the sake of sustaining the lifestyle at home)...
Where is the child support? EBT? WIC? SCHIP? Medicaid? etc. etc. etc.
BS detector going off......
Bingo. The other question is that if your kids are having a rough go of it at best, then isn't it your responsibility as their parent to get on the dole to help ensure they have provisions? As Rand has stated, it's probably just partisan politics...
Although, the post's popularity should be at least a moderately positive sign...
is signing up for the various programs as "easy" as signing up for Obamacare?
Judging by the tens of millions enrolled, I'd say it's much easier... In fact, there are dozens of different categories of professionals from many different industries whose sole task is to get people signed up... think of it like the most annoying recruiters in the world, except they're actually peddling a good product. For example, if you go to a medical facility and need to see X doctor, well... we need to get you assigned to a social worker so we can get you signed up for programs that will pay for the service we want to perform... likewise, as part of your healing process, you'll need nourishment and what not, so we need to get you signed up for all ancillary programs. Little johnny comes to school and has boogers on his shirt and hasn't had a haircut in months? Let's get you signed up for some programs! Mandated reporters -> mandated recruiters.
Her husband - BF - man probably ran off or was caught by Emigration and deported. What, you don't know a single mother that doesn't get a dime from her ex?
ERGO - you lost me at Yolanda.
Has anyone verified her story? Maybe she exists but details are different?
Admittedly I'd like to know more background, but the gripes are legit.
You will note that she wasn't asking for a handout from the government, only a better economy, presumably one not controlled by our central-planning government.
"She's divorced and choose to be."
Moron.
LOL. Some of you guys can't handle the truth.
That lady is not Yolanda pictured,(no big deal),just wanted to make that clear, this is a pic of a mother, and two kids taken from the Great Depression.
How do you know she chose divorce?
Maybe her husband left her for a younger woman or was killed by a ton of linen falling from helicopter Ben's chopper.
Believe me, if she was his victim that would be in the letter (my husband ran away, etc). It's not, therefore per the odds, that 3 out of 4 are started by women, she intiated things. And when there are kids and child support involved over 90% are initiated by women.
And our lefty friends on the blog, it is near impossible to get out of child support unless you are a total loser homeless person. The state comes after you in every way possible.
Yes, but there are ways. Send the money to school for the kids instead of mom. Get an agreement that these matters are private and cannot be adjudicated in any court. Place the money in escrow and release only what the kids need that mom can justify. Of course, if your ex-wife has the personality of a hungry snapping turtle, if won't be easy.
If you can tolerate short prison terms (under 90 days) and loss of driving, there is really nothing they can do to you. There are MILLIONS of "deadbeat" dads, don't let the government lie to you. Many men have simply revolted and refused to live under Stalin-like regimes.
As a matter of law in Ohio and California, child support is not a private matter. Once the CSEA gets you - it is until the kid is 18 years old. You can make an agreement with your ex-spouse but it is an illegal contract and not enforceable. All she has to do is file the appropriate legal paperwork with the court and the child support vultures do their thing.
Of course criminals aren't going to pay child support.
Yeah you can hide your income, but the state will just assign you a figure. And you will have to pay and if you don't the sum will accure into a nice enforceable judgment.
Living under a rock is no life. You can go Galt though.
This goes back to the poor choices that Yolanda has made.
Maybe he's dead.
ZH should be addressing these issues :
1° When the Shale oil boom fizzles
2° What is happening in the Saudi Real futures markets.
Middle East Tensions And The SAR 12m Forward Rate - Business Insider
IEA Energy Outlook Bearish On Shale - Business Insider
These, along with the inflation build up in Iran markets are interesting markers for coming ME tensions.
Dear Yolanda,
The POTUS that you are talking about has "Failed The City"
Flash mobs in Chicago eh? Isn't Obozo from that part of the country?
After all, what's a flash-mob other than an organised community???
or better yet ---- "that could have been my son"
Obumo has learned his chicago lessons well ... steal from the American people, deny them any sort of justice and give all the loot to bankers and their cronies .... except Obumo has killed a lot more people than any of the hoodlums in Chicago could dream of or even want to.
Who is John Galt?
A fictional character revered by buffoons.
I'll bet one fucking Bitcoin you never read the book or haven't the slightest clue what the context of the phrase means.
I like a lot of your posts, but there are times when I throughly enjoy telling you to fuck off.
speaking of which, why does Yolanda end her letter with "god have mercy on your soul"?
I'd end mine with "die of painful ball cancer you fucking scumbag"
Anal cancer with ice cube analgesics would be more fitting.
those kind of things usually only happen to innocent people. The oligarchs usually just ride off into the sunset laughing with all their ill-gotten and treasonous profiteering like the last 2 administrations.
trolawloool
I'll bet you 10 bitcoins that LETTHEMEATRAND doesn't possess the intelligence to understand ATLAS SHRUGGED. That is the real problem.
Alan Greenspan who co-wrote with her and who married part of the "collective" (the term used by Rand devotees who met weekly to discuss fucking all of us) agrees with you, so you've got that going for you.
She was known for her affair so she didn't just frak with the public.
Perfect way to word it...I'm stealing it.
You should bet 100. They are not taking the bet.
BTW, has anyone listened to the Audible version read by Scott Brick?
I prefer the short version read by Edward Hermann.
This thing will only let me give you one up arrow Chas. Well said and thanks.
I love insulting the cult of Rand. It never gets old watching the rabid cult dogs come out to play and defend their ridiculous religion.
LTE Rand, you know something you are nothing but a BallWashing CockSucking Commie Lib. No matter what the facts you stick to your sick political religion. Once in a great while you seem to get it then someone attacks your High Priest ObumblingPhuck and you fall right back to your ideological religion. Go fuck yourself.
BTW I've wanted to tell you that for as long as I read your nonsense but only signed up a month ago or so. In the meantime Fuck You, you Fucking Fuck.
Re: In the meantime Fuck You, you Fucking Fuck.
Wow, a full tap-out. Thanks for playing, tho.
you mad bruh!
@ Charles Nelson.
"I like a lot of your posts," Those are the ones where LTER is lying. Once in a while she lets her guard down and you see the real statist.
i have seen the movies, but all i remember is the blondie from part one.. she was hUuuuuuuuut!
The Atlas Shrugged movies suck compared to the book. There is so much nuance and allegory in Rand's writing that the movie would be 20 hours long.
Go to youtube and listen to John Galt's entire speech - it is epic and it's logic is unassailable.
Of course the haters have no logic which is really the problem.
That's a seriously great speach.
Atlas shrugged is a painful read though, the massive soliloquies (rants) get old pretty fast.
The Fountainhead is a far better read in my opinion.
The Fountainhead was a better movie as well, but once you read how actively anything involving Rand is sabotaged in Hollywood it makes sense. The immediate post-WWII timing couldn't have been better in getting something like that made.
I haven't watched that in years, I'm going to have to put it on tonight now!
The Atlas Shrugged movies have been OK I guess, but yeah, The Fountainhead is a classic.
AR idolized here, yet there's never an opportunity missed for most here to say f/u Greenspan, who idolized Rand.
Yes, Galt made a great fictional character lest we forget Ms Rand died on the dole herself.
Cog Fucking Dis
Can't have it both ways. Or does the trufe hurt?
You mean I can't take what I want from someones expressions?
I'm forced to take only what they (or perhaps you) say it meant?
And then only if they live up to the ideals expressed?
I guess I'll throw all my books away then, thanks for that, I've been so mislead!
Damn this thinking for myself, what a gyp.
