Guest Post: Meet One Of The Victims Of The "Economic Recovery"
Submitted by Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse blog,
Have you ever cried yourself to sleep because you had no idea how you were going to pay the bills even though you were working as hard as you possibly could? You are about to hear from a single mother that has been there. Her name is Yolanda Vestal and she is another victim of Obama's "economic recovery". Yes, things have never been better for the top 0.01 percent of ultra-wealthy Americans that have got millions of dollars invested in the stock market. But for most of the rest of the country, things are very hard right now.
At this point, more than 102 million working age Americans do not have a job, and 40 percent of those that are actually working earn less than $20,000 a year in wages. If we actually are experiencing an "economic recovery", then why is the federal government spending nearly a trillion dollars a year on welfare? And that does not even include entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare. We live in a nation where poverty is exploding and the middle class is shrinking with each passing day. But nothing is ever going to get fixed if we all stick our heads in the sand and pretend that everything is "just fine".
What you are about to read is an open letter to Barack Obama that has gone absolutely viral on the Internet in recent days. It is a letter that a single mother named Yolanda Vestal posted on her Facebook page, and it has really struck a nerve because countless other young parents can clearly identify with what she is going through. The following is the text of her letter...
Dear President Obama,
I wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all you have done and are doing. You see I am a single Mom located in the very small town of Palmer, Texas. I live in a small rental house with my two children. I drive an older car that I pray daily runs just a little longer. I work at a mediocre job bringing home a much lower paycheck than you or your wife could even imagine living on. I have a lot of concerns about the new “Obamacare” along with the taxes being forced on us Americans and debts you are adding to our country. I have a few questions for you Mr. President.
Have you ever struggled to pay your bills? I have.
Have you ever sat and watched your children eat and you eat what was left on their plates when they were done, because there wasn’t enough for you to eat to? I have.
Have you ever had to rob Peter to pay Paul, and it still not be enough? I have.
Have you ever been so sick that you needed to see a doctor and get medicine, but had no health insurance because it was too expensive? I have.
Have you ever had to tell your children no, when they asked for something they needed? I have.
Have you ever patched holes in pants, glued shoes, replaced zippers, because it was cheaper than buying new? I have.
Have you ever had to put an item or two back at the grocery store, because you didn’t have enough money? I have.
Have you ever cried yourself to sleep, because you had no clue how you were going to make ends meet? I have.
My questions could go on and on. I don’t believe you have a clue what Americans are actually going through and honestly, I don’t believe you care. Not everyone lives extravagantly. While your family takes expensive trips that cost more than most of us make in two-four years, there are so many of us that suffer. Yet, you are doing all you can to add to the suffering. I think you are a very selfish and cold hearted man, who does not care what is best for the people he was elected by (not by me) to represent, but more so out for the glory of your name attached to history. So thank you Mr. President, thank you for pushing those of us that are barely staying afloat completely under water and driving America into the ground. You have made your mark in history, as the absolute worst and most hated president of the United States. God have mercy on your soul!
Sincerely,
Yolanda Vestal
Average American
These are the kinds of emotions that millions of American parents are wrestling with on a daily basis. Many of them are working as hard as they possibly can and yet still find themselves unable to adequately provide for their families.
And now that food stamps are being cut back, more of them than ever are going to be forced to turn to food banks for help. The following is what the head of a large food bank in Casper, Wyoming told one local newspaper about the increase in demand that he is witnessing in his area...
Across the state, food banks and other related programs aiming to feed the needy are worried the supply to meet the uptick in need during the holiday season won’t meet the growing demand for food caused by the expiration of SNAP benefits.
“People are scared to death of the lack of food availability,” Martin said.
Martin called Joshua’s Storehouse a reliable barometer for measuring the rate of need in Casper. The number of people using the food bank skyrocketed before the reduction in SNAP, he said.
Fewer than 2,000 people used the food bank in October 2012. Last month 2,500 people went there for help.
And of course this is not just happening in rural areas either. Margarette Purvis, the head of the largest food bank organization in New York City, says that she is anticipating a huge surge in demand and that veterans are being hit particularly hard...
"On this Veterans Day, when we’re waving our flags — I need every New Yorker to know — 40 percent of New York City veterans are relying on soup kitchens and pantries."
Purvis says that there are 95,000 vets relying on food banks in New York City alone.
That is a lot of people.
And while Barack Obama may trot out a few vets on national holidays and promise that "we will never forget" them, the truth is that most of the time the federal government treats our military veterans like human garbage. If you doubt this, please see my previous article entitled "25 Signs That Military Veterans Are Being Treated Like Absolute Trash Under The Obama Administration".
Meanwhile, anger and frustration with the economy are starting to rise to very dangerous levels in this nation.
In a previous article, I noted that violent crime in America rose by 15 percent last year. One of the primary reasons for this is the economic despair that we see in our streets.
As the economy gets even worse, people will become even more desperate. We will start to see even more flash mob crimes like we saw in Chicago recently. Posted below is a video news report that shows footage of a flash mob in Chicago dragging entire racks of merchandise out of a Sports Authority store...
When you watch stuff like this, it helps to explain why demand for armored vehicles among the ultra-wealthy in America is skyrocketing.
Unfortunately, most Americans cannot afford armored vehicles and walled vacation homes in the middle of nowhere.
Most Americans are going to have to live right in the middle of all of this as it happens.
A volcano of anger, frustration and despair is simmering just below the surface in America.
When that volcano finally erupts, it is going to be a very frightening thing to behold.

"what a gyp"
That's hate speech. Gyp is derived from "gypsy" which refers to the Roma, who are quite possibly the largest band of shiftless, thieving, drug-dealing welfare fraudsters outside of the Republic of Pelosi.
And your immediate relatives. How is that self loathing working out for you?
Haha. You could be right, but I was told by an old soldier that it refers to WW1 Australian soldiers buying "authentic antiques" from Egyptian street dealers.
When the few survivors got their priceless treasures home, they were often heard compaining about the "dirty gyp".
So we can assume that even though you have had social security and medicare forcibly extracted from your paycheck, your hatred of statists will prevent you from claiming any of your "entitlement" benefits. Excellent moral conviction and more power to you!
I believe his real name is William Edward Hickman.
not barraca fo show,
"Who is John Galt?"
More interesting, why is there a Boulevard in Omaha named after him?
Ever been to San Jose, Costa Rica? That's what most places in this country are going to look like in 20 years.
No haven't been there but was on St Croix USVI for about 8 months about 10 years ago and Fredriksted looked pretty bad, Christiansted was marginally better (back then) and the cops told us not to walk more than 2 blocks into town or we'd likely be mugged... I see Fredriksted in the US cities ... have seen it in Albequerque NM, Seattle WA, Olympia WA, Palmdale CA, Riverside CA, Ontario CA, San Bernardino CA, Portland OR, Waldport OR, various locations on the big island of Hawaii, Daytona FL, San Antonio TX, Chicago IL, Detroit MI (top honors for decay), Cincinnati OH, Cleveland OH, Indianapolis IN, Lafayette IN, Lexington KY ... and those are just places I have actually been to in the past 4 years. Mexico City was pretty f'ing bad haven't seen it that bad in the US but I didn't go exploring around in Detroit ... just wanted to catch my flight out of detroit and be done with it.
Where's her letter to the Bernanke, Jamie and Lloyd? Whether she's legit or not, it burns me up that people don't think to look behind the curtain of politics for why they are suffering. A brief glance at her website tells me this was a Team motivated letter and that if her Team were in power she'd be blaming Blue Team members of Congress or some other part of the other Team for her problems. That is the real problem facing us all. They have succeeded in focusing anger such as hers at a single person who is nothing more than a puppet.
Lter I don't know if Yolanda is real and her letter was hijacked by the repubs, but either way Yolanda has no idea that there is a curtain or to look behind it. Her cousin Loqueesha probably wrote the same letter to Bush and the dems did the same. The letter is not even what the focus should be on. Because there is no fixing this. It's going to circle down the drain no matter what team does what. The focus should be on those flash mobs because that was a preview of what is to come.

A poor person who dislikes Obama. Gotta search far and wide to find that jewel. I reckon the Good Reverend Sharpton is experiencing some discomfort right about now.
She's single and in Texas, I'm single and in Texas, only about 40 minutes away, I've certainly seen worse looking faces, hmmmm......
Likes the Cowboys though....strike 1.
Unfortuneately it was puppet boy that made all the HOPE AND CHANGE promises. (Which were lies by the way).
She's busy providing for two kids and can't make ends meet. She has neither time nor education to comprehend how Wall Street has looted the country.
She knows that the rich are getting richer because she can see the wealth.
When SHTF the angry mob will paint with a very broad brush and not always only hit the correct targets. The mob will overshoot as always. Take a lesson from history.
Anger hasn't become more sophisticated just cuz'.
When SHTF the angry mob will paint with a very broad brush and not always only hit the correct targets. The mob will overshoot as always. Take a lesson from history.
Bingo. Something that has always seemed strange to me is that the middle class and even lower upper class don't jump on the bandwagon earlier, knowing full well that much of the brunt of the mob will be misdirected at them. I think we even tend to punish those in other countries who are in the same boat, e.g. fundamentalist islam. Just an interesting dynamic...
"She has neither time nor education to comprehend how Wall Street has looted the country."
There is no Wall Street without the Fed, and there is no Fed without the approval of our Politicians.
Yolanda doesn't know that the Fed is private. She doesn't understand that there are a few elite families in this country who own and run everything. Maybe she's going to find ZH when she sees who is talking about her now. I hope she does.
We have too many Marie Antoinette's and her entourage wannabes in this country and not enough Jean D'Arcs.
Yolanda doesn't give a fuck until her bread and circuses are threatened... Some people inherently yearn for the truth... but we're lonely voices at best and more than likely we're completely drowned out by static.
Re: They have succeeded in focusing anger such as hers at a single person who is nothing more than a puppet.
Yeah, most people are obsessed with "the leader". Bush's fault, Obama's fault. But, it's always been that way. Humans worship authority. Most people only know "something" is wrong, but until there's some actual resentment toward "the rich" nothing can change. A few rich people get killed and "things" would change pretty quick. We might even get a new Fed (it would have a new name tho).
My Kind of Town......Chi-ca-go is...
I normally rip this guy apart for his boring regurgitated articles, but this one packs some punch. It's going to get bad in a lot of places. I am heading to a neighbors house this week to start having some real conversations as to how we need to collectively plan together. I'm not sure of the timeline, but at some point almost all of us are going to be impacted.
As long as we are on the economic collapse guy's thread, and I know he has had several 10yr treasury articles....I have it on someone's word that I trust that the 10 yr is going to rally into year end and then make the big move up to 3.5% in the 1st qtr of next year before settling back into the 3.10% range. So there is your prediction 4 months ahead of those BofA turd burglars.
"I have it on someone's word that I trust that the 10 yr is going to rally into year end and then make the big move up to 3.5% in the 1st qtr of next year before settling back into the 3.10% range."
Post that on Yolanda's page and let's see what her response is. Break out the deer-in-the-headlights pic.
What does "someone's word" say about when the Fed will taper? I'm all into crystal balls these days. About as reliable as TA in this managed market.
Yolanda is into 3D printing stocks right now. She is a bawler. No busllshit treasuries for her.
Rocky I called the move up to 2.75% this year when everyone said I was nuts. I did it mostly based on this person's word.
I am trying to take any credit I have built up here and throw it out the window making another call when I should just stfu. That's all. It is what it is.
Betcha she's got cable TV. With 3 kids? Come on! They'd cut her up in the kitchen in a heartbeat. I'd lay odds that she smokes as well. There's a cash drain for ya.
Last good rip for 10 year, last good dip for precious metal.
Thanks for the tip.
Underclass animals stealing upscale fashions is hardly an expression of 'need' though it will just cause more merchants to close stores close to underclass communities which will increase their povery and isolation.
They are expressing their disgust for our current situation and would vote again for Obama if given the chance. He made Chicago what it is today. modern morals and ethics are desirable and a good thing except those at the top who promote these ideals are the last to practice them. Much like Goldman advising what to buy (that they happen to be selling). As much as it breaks my heart, the good guys are finishing last, by design. Of course lying, cheating and stealing will not be tolerated in our lower class environment because we are not TBTF and are not the enforcers. We all know that laws are not debateable or arguable. Resist and suffer, or as Obama says, if you don't like it get your like minded people to vote (like they would ever let that happen) and change the laws. Ha!
Sports Authority = not really upscale
Compared to Dollar Tree it is.....
Ah, but think of the Designer Labels that their kids can wear to school. Assuming they go to school. Regularly. /s
It's more complex, but a crime is a crime, and I have NO tolerance for a flash mobs or any mob. Goddam animals! Somebody needs to fire off a warning shot, and they'd probably leave PDQ. Ironically, you'd have the cops and legal system on your ass, or some special interest lobby, and the PC witches from The View.
Admittedly the FAR greater crimes happen in board rooms, by people with real designer label suits. Ethics and common decency have gone down the drain in corporate America. It's all legal Procedure games in Legal and HR, Supply Chain sourcing from offshore sweatshops, and S+M trying to sell more crap that most people want but don't truly need.
Agree with others that things will get worse, far worse. Sad to say.
The regression to Feudalism continues. Soon we'll officially meet our New Masters, no doubt. Many of whom are the descendants of our Old Masters (green-blood bankers, and blue blood wankers).
Welcome to Obama's America. The poor? Screw 'em. No school choice, high minimum wages pricing them out of a job and the worst? Open borders flooding the meager job market with millions of compitition for a job.
Investment? With taxes going up, the fed trying to kill the dollar, regs thru the roof, TBTF? Who in their right mind invests in America? Answer: No one.
you sure don't hear the fucknuts in dc using that tired old line of immigrants "doing the jobs that Americans won't do" anymore. They may have to bring out the "for the children" meme or "remember the Maine" I have one, "our overlords, dark masters of the universe said so"
Sorry, he's out on the links.. try again later.
It's Bush' fault. It's the govt shutdown fault. It's the Koch Brothers fault. It's Ted Cruz fault. It's Rand Paul fault. Every excuse you could imagine is made to protect the Kenyan and his party. They are Teflon. The majority of the country give him pass on EVERYTHING: Benghazi, Fast & Furious, NSA spy scandals, violating the press, on and on and on. He is still their messiah, and always will be. TPTB that put him in office knew this would be the case, that is why he is in office. That is why Hillary will win in 2016. Kiss your second amendment rights goodbye.
No....its my fault. Just ask my wife.
I get that all the time too....my condolences
Miffed;-)
Oldwood, great comment on an evening where things are getting a bit too hostile around here...
thanks
TPTB figured this out quite well.
Kiss your second amendment rights goodbye.
Hey about a year ago or so somebody in the comment section posted a link to the CraigList of hand guns. I should have save that. Anyone know the link? I need to add to my arsenal... Thanks in advance.

This is why maintaining all-time highs in stock prices is a matter of national security. All-time highs in stock prices tell the poor sheeple that their predicament is their own fault because the economy is booming. As long as the news is more jobs, lower unemployment, all-time highs in stocks, the sheeple are depressed and subdued. When they start believing the whole system is fucked, then they will get angry.
The top 10% are doing fine.
Survival of the fittest doesn't always work out as the semi-autistics think it will.
We shouldn't worry. Stuff like this has a way of working out eventually. There may be lots of dead people in the streets, but it will work out allrighty. Yolanda may not have to worry much longer as she may well have a drone with her name on it. Our benevolent leaders really don't like being called out on their obvious failures as the public might lose "confidence" in them and do something rash. Order must be maintained at all costs (to us) while they continue to cause chaos with every utterance from their lips. The only answer is that we surrender all of our freedoms to them and they will create a whole new set of freedoms for us to live by that guarantee our security from their violence. Freedoms like the ability to submit questions to them in writing with our return address and phone number attached (gps coordinates would be helpful). Or maybe freedom to apply for government healthcare while surrendering all rights to our personal information, at a considerable increase in cost. Hey, healthcare is a right! No, I think it is pretty clear we be fucked along with the hopes and dreams and sacrifices of our forefathers.
Soetoro is doing all he can for the 57 states.
If he really cared about the 57 states, he'd be doing what he can to help the other 7 states "come out" in places like Northeastern Colorado, Western Maryland, Northern California, etc.
Though I understand the frustration, in most cases, Single Mother = Poor Choices.
Re: Single Mother = Poor Choices
50% of the population are below average. That adds up to allot of poor choices being made.
Poor choices are being made because society has been busily concealing their effects. Fuck around and get an abortion. Get pregnant and get child support. Lose your job and get unemployment. Drop out of school and get welfare and foodstamps. Transparency of risk is everything. We know there is risk in most things we do. Our job is to accurately assess those risks and make the best choice for each of us based on our skills, motivations and capacity to tolerate failure. Risk is life. No risk is death. Government has done everything within their powers to exaggerate the risks (many of which are false) and conceal the consequences of choosing poorly.
And I wish you would quit saying 50% are below average. If you are trying to be funny it has gotten old and if you are being serious you have a few bolts loose. 50% of every group are below "average". So what?
Be self employed and experience a down turn = YOU GET NOTHING.
Be a white male = YOU GET NOTHING.
Be financially responsiible = you get your wealth redistributed.
Re: Be a white male = YOU GET NOTHING.
You get the benefit of the doubt.
A white male asshole fratboy is just another obnoxious white male asshole. Everybody else wouldn't be tolerated.
So what? What about the children?
Re: So what?
So what?! They are dumber than the top 50%. What do you think happens to dumb people when competing with smart peopel? So what... It's what competition is.
The bottom half by your equation does not have to be losers. The bottom half of intelligence is not always the bottom half of incomes. I don't understand the point you are making. We don't all have to be fucking geniuses to have a decent life. As a matter of fact, many of your "smart and savy" and not all that smart, just willing to cheat and steal. In your world, maybe that is smart, but not mine, not yet at least. And competition is not just about smarts, it about commitment and hard work and not giving up. There are plenty of phd's out there working at minimum wage right now. How far did their "smarts" get them? Your metric is meaningless other to than simply say that you can divide any group into upper and lower halves by some measurement. I bet you are in the upper half of smart asses and cynics.
Re: Your metric is meaningless other to than simply say that you can divide any group into upper and lower halves by some measurement.
You can make any performance metric you'd like. 50% are going to be below average and at a disadvantage to the top 50% in a competitive contest.
Which is the point. Eventually, the "most fit" people (you get to define this as well) will eat the "less fit" alive; unless there's something to stop them.
50% of the population are below average.
The problem is how shitty average has become.
"in most cases, Single Mother = Poor Choices"
And precisely what scientific evidence are you basing such nonesense on?
1. Idiocracy. 2. The inability to see and understand this planet is grossly overpopulated and her labor is worth nothing because capital rules all.
Many modern societies are experiencing lower birth rates, in many areas negative birth rates, but I do not think it is because of an enhanced life for their children, but rather selfishness, a better more prosperous life for themselves. Seventeen trillion in debt and tens if not hundreds of trillions more in unfunded liabilities says we don't give a fuck about any future other than our own.
^^^THIS^^^
people purposely bringing children into this shit hole world are profoundly selfish.
OR some people want to be sure they can provide adequately for the children they hope to have someday therefore truly give a fuck about the future of their children.
And I'm sure those childless couples are just beating themselves daily while driving their Porsche to the country club. Selfishness is everywhere. Some are having children they can't afford while others are having none of it because, as those who promote abortion can tell you, "Its just not convenient right now". I have no children and I know why. I wanted stuff. I wanted my business. And I thought I just put if off until it felt right. Yes, I also claim publicly that I wouldn't want to bring a child into this world, but I know in my heart its a cop out, a lie. This world needs children. Children raised with values and common sense. Not children raised like rats in a slum with no parenting and no love and no guidance. But that is what we have. People having children that shouldn't and those that could afford them and could make the time for them that just don't. If you want a world with a future, someone had better be making the children of the future that will make the world we want to see for them. Hording gold and bullets may not get us there.
The world is not grossly overpopulated - that point is gibberish and you keep saying it.
Read Sequitur's post, above; he puts it ever so elegantly.
Look around you.
Been to Walmart lately??
Have a few more kids Yolanda, things are bound to improve soon. [/sarc.]
This bastard is just getting warmed up. Wait for a continuous string of executive orders coming from this lame fuck...
Blame those who were gullible enough to vote for the guy..
Does anyone actually think Romney would have done anything different? Sure he would have repealed Obamacare but since Yolanada has no health insurance how is that adding to her hardship? Choosing between the Republican ticket and the Democratic ticket is like choosing the color of the boot that is going to be thrust up yer ass!
That's exactly why I wanted Romney to win. Voting for either political party is like a whackamole contest with each mole a clone of the other with the only major differences being rhetoric shaping ppls' 'belief' about them.
OK, let's be honest here --- probably 99.8% of all the Yolandas in the USA voted for Obama. So color me skeptical of the veracity of this letter.
I've checked my Crayola box. "Skeptical" doesn't seem to be a choice. Could you pick another? Would burnt sienna do?
Anything in grey would be suitable, although either "furious red" or "burnt out citizen" would be the most accurate.
Cell phone, cigarettes, big screen tv, and you just can't raise 2 kids on a jr. High school education. So exactly who is posed to pay for them kids? Me? You cable tv? Me?
AGAIN - WHERE IS THE CHILD SUPPORT FROM THE FATHER OF THE CHILDREN?????
She states 3 kids on her Facebook page.
I guess it's not easy tracking down 3 guys?
We call that in my world a steady income stream (if three fathers). What is the chance that all three (supposed) fathers are fuck-ups?
Also would it change the mind of the lefties on the blog if her children did have three fathers? Isn't that a poor choice? Doesn't she share in the responsibility of her plight?
Oh no - it is for the children - the poor children that she brought onto this earth and couldn't provide for.
There is no accountability any more - she fucked up and wants everyone else to pay for it.
Next time close your legs honey.
Also she voted for Obama and lives in Texas? You deserve what you got from the puppet con man.
Delete.
How do you know she's not getting the support, and still barely getting by??
AGAIN - WHERE IS THE CHILD SUPPORT FROM THE FATHER OF THE CHILDREN?????
You assume he is working, and you assume they can find him,and you assume he makes more than min wage. You make more on the dole than working two or three partime, fulltime min wage jobs. There is major reason never brought up here why we have the issues we do with broken families.
If you marry, and have kids, you cannot recieve all the bennies.
One woman, has eighteen chiddddddddddren,by eight different sperm donors, and is raking in $9,700.00 a month just for their care(keeps her in drugs, and her sperm donors in weed n Big 40's), and on top of this she gets free medicaid.
If she married one of the eight, she loses the gimme's.
It's called Workin da system. And guess who set it up?, LBJ, the Great Society.
You made my point - she has no sympathy from me. She put those children in that situation - she should give them up for adoption if she is so stupid.
Drone launch to Palmer, Texas, in 3...2....1...
wow she will be pissed if she ever learns that is only how much it costs just for him to get to his private 747... the trips themselves cost more than she and everyone she knows will likely make in 2-4 lifetimes.
She should have went after the 150 rounds of golf with a cost at least of $250 a pop......
When you count the cost of security, etc., it probably works out to $2.5m per round.
Don't have kids you can't afford. The planet is grossly overpopulated, no one needs your children.
And why are you contributing offspring to this planet, where capital >>> labor. Capital has won, your labor means nothing.
Your children will be fed to this corporate profit machine. The fruit of your loins will be used to further depress wages of all low-skilled labor as the unskilled population continues to explode. Your childrens' labor will be pocketed by central banks and bankers as they print more and more currency in exchange for your hard labor.
There is only one answer to this disgusting state of affairs. Don't play the game. Deny the machine your offspring. Never have children and never struggle to support a family doing shit you don't want to do. Bow out entirely from the medical/educational/labor complex. Deny the educational machine your hard labor in "educating" offspring the planet neither wants nor needs, never take on this debt.
Refuse to participate. Instead, amass capital as you see fit, following opportunities with your freedom. Invest and enjoy the low taxes that capitalists have bought via campaign contributions. Sit back while other plebes too stupid to understand this depressing, yet true, reality contributes to your bottom line.
Green arrow, for you.
Originally, the American Dream was to work for someone just long enough to amass sufficient capital, and begin your own firm (or invest in one). Now, it's to have kids (debt slaves) and buy a house (mortgage, or death pledge). Why anyone does this who can't afford it is beyond me.
You guys are overlooking the tons of people out there who could afford having kids at one point and now can no longer afford it. It's not always so cut and dry.
This is so true Fonz coming from one who had children I, at the time, could afford. Unfortunately it was impossible to forecast the future. I do not regret my decision because I love my children and have raised them without government assistance. If you were to ask me now if I would have children again knowing the future as I do, I'm not sure if I would. Mainly my worry is for their future which looks bleak. I had no idea I was leaving them a world that was destroyed by psychopaths.
Miffed;-)
Same as it ever was. Do you think it was any better after the American Civil War? During World War I? World War II? The Cold War (where we all could have been nuked at any time especially during the Cuban Missle Crisis?) The Great Depression? Or my favorite 1979? There has always been uncertainty.....
Psychopaths seem to be the order of the day, every day.
Bingo.
A tad late for Yolanda, don't ya think? All wise and wonderful words, but had she had all the factors needed to meet your Utopian view, she wouldn't be in her present situation. The "broad view" is denied those who have to scratch daily for simple bread.
You are quite right. This is for others, primarily the young. I also don't think this state of affairs Utopian. Instead it simply is a recognition of what is. And there will be no changing it, not in our lifetimes. Population will continue to skyrocket, as will the global fight for resources. Labor will continue to lose. Against this backdrop, I see only one solution, and that is to simply withdraw from all of it. I think a more fulfilling life awaits those who have the perceptive power to recognize this early; those who follow the lifescript will regret their decision for decades, and possibly the rest of their lives.
You see only one solution?
You are such an optimist!
While i would have to agree that having children you can't afford is a big No No, we really don't know her circumstances, although statistically you are probably right. Unforntuanately there are lots more buy lots of shit they can't afford. I don't want to ake it th ewrong way but so much of everything we speak of today is about US, about our needs. Stashing, saving stacking and so on. Whether we like it or not, none of us will survive, unless, and the only way I know of, you have children that live on for you. Most "real" parents (not those who subcontract out the raising of their kids) understand what I mean. Your children are ALL that counts. They are not part of your stash, your assets lists. They ARE you. Yolanda may be a complete idiot but at least she understands what is happening and there is something to be said for that and maybe, she just might pass a little on to her kids. Its easy to suggest to just stop participating but if you have dependents, that is not always easy. Yes we need to pull back where we can and I would suggest that abandoning the finanacial markets is an excellent place to start. Money for nothing will ever end good in the long run and we see where it has gotten us thus far. I contend that if people had their heads right, the assholes running us into the ground would never have a chance. Stop spending what you can't afford and stop borrowing money to fake it. Just doing that would eliminate 90% of the headaches we have today.
It is no coincidence that public radio proudly calls itself PRI at the same time the professional politicians are working overtime to import half the population of Mexico.
TOTUS is satans spawn period. He's a stupid fucking blathering sock puppet that has ZERO interest in anyone or thing, other then furthering his handlers agenda. That is all...
When shit goes "pear shaped" I hope the 'Vegas Strip' is barricaded off to do televised executions of the bankers and pols. Let's put those NSA light posts to some good use!
For the sake of efficiency I could never figure out why Vegas and Wall Street do not occupy the same strip.
I accept that there will always be poor and rich but the fact that the rich are becoming richer at the same time as the poor are becoming poorer, can only mean one thing.....the rich are gaining at the expense of the poor and not because they are value adding to the economy.
Wow I can't believe that we as Americans can't appreciate the fact that we have such successes as Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Larry Blankfein, Jamie Dimon, Angelo Mozillo, BENMOSCHE (love that name!!) just to name a few. Why can't we just focus on the positives that Wall St. has given us and reap the rewards that our Federal Reserve is giving out FREE!! Why must we focus on the negatives?
Let's get positive and have a good ol' fashioned ticker tape parade right down Wall St. Our Prez can be the master ceremonies and we can buy convertable limos and have these great men driven why the masses wave and smile and show their American pride!

'Too bad virtually every policy change in the US in the last 6-1/2 [almost 7] years has only made it more expensive to have an employee in the US. I challenge everyone to think of even one policy change for which this is not true. [I can only think of one: the payroll tax holiday, and it has already been repealed.]
Come on! I challenge you! Can you think of just one thing, I have forgotten? Out of the [surely] thousands of things which have been changed, can you think of just one which did not make it more expensive to have an employee in the US!!!?
How can that NOT contribute to joblessness and a poorer quality of jobs available?
I believe that, ironically, even the highly progressive income tax in the US contributes to more joblessness and poorer quality of jobs. I even think it contributes to INCREASING disparities of wealth and income gaps, not decreasing. This seems totally backwards [to most anyone, and downright heresy to many -- if not all -- of those on the left side of the isle], but that is often how many things in the economy work.
When the government subsidizes higher education, doesn't that just increase the demand for tuition hikes, eventually making higher education less affordable than if it hadn't been subsidized?
When business owners have to pay more in the form of higher costs (for whatever reason), they are pressured to extract some [if not all] of these higher costs from their employees, customers, and clients (especially if the new costs are applied across all competitors of an industry, such as with higher taxes or costs of compliance with regulation or litigation, when they are applied uniformly to all competitors). Doesn't increasing regulatory complexity also contribute to more joblessness and reduced quality of jobs? Higher complexity has to equal higher costs, doesn't it?
Doesn't that just give an inherent advantage to elite-crony-monied businesses over everyone else, thus increasing the disparities of wealth and income, again?
And, the Fed would appear to be powerless to do anything about any of that [assuming they don't actually make things even a lot worse]. How does printing money help with any of that organic reduction in "demand"?
Seems to be a lot of ignorant cunts posting on this thread. Yolanda's story is being repeated millions of times a day in the US alone and these fools make jokes. Then consider that even with the state of affairs in the US, even the poor lead an afluent life compared to those in 3rd world countries. As the old saying goes, don't condemn a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Having lived in the barrios of Bogota for some time, you see the character that poverty builds in a people. The Colombian's have a saying that goes; pobre pero feliz. Poor, but happy. Think about it.
Nothing will change for the better unless 40 million "Yollandas"and every worker earning under $10 an hour write an open letter to Obama.
Atleast we can all agree on one thing. There is something very, very wrong with this system we all live in and under.
Don’t worry,
*(Moar) debt is on its way...
I didn't have much growing up but my fathers $4.35 an hour was enough to raise a family. We had clothes on our backs such as they were, Mom would sew her own dresses.
We would butcher a pig each fall and when we went to Safeway about once a month $75.00 would fill 4 shopping carts, we had an 1100 sq ft home that cost $14,000 and one salary was able to carry the mortgage.
Anyone that blames Yolanda for what central banks and governments have done to all our living standards is heartless and uninformed.
fast tracking the TPP thru congress and the senate should make for a nice strong, nicely nailed shut coffin for the dream that used to exist in the US of A.
Not necessarily Yolanda, but if you reward the wrong behavior and thinking and punish the right behavior and thinking, you will get more and less. But only for a while.........

I guess I have a problem with the flash mob. I don't see starving people grabbing food. This is just robbery and has nothing to do with economic plight but moral, social decay. I bet most of that merchandise will be sold for drugs not food.
From the preface of Les Miserables by Victor Hugo:
So long as there shall exist, by reason of law and custom, a social condemnation, which, in the face of civilization, artificially creates hells on earth, and complicates a destiny that is divine with human fatality; so long as the three problems of the age—the degradation of man by poverty, the ruin of women by starvation, and the dwarfing of childhood by physical and spiritual night—are not solved; so long as, in certain regions, social asphyxia shall be possible; in other words, and from a yet more extended point of view, so long as ignorance and misery remain on earth, books like this cannot be useless.
This describes a fully different world that is not occurring yet in this country. When people had to steal so not to starve. Our poverty is considered a good life compared to many third world impoverished countries. We have quite a way to go to get to this level and I suspect this is where we need to be to get enough willing to effect change.
Miffed;-)
What if the flash mob incident was a prank by some bored restless kids/young adults? It was probably done on a dare. They didn't even get much merchandise out of the store.
But this article makes it sound like a crime against humanity. In CHICAGO no less - where there are at least 3 gun murders EVERY weekend.
We threw rocks through residential windows when I was a kid. Shoplift, turfing, etc. etc. etc.
Did a whole lot of stupid shit because we were young. Because we were young - and we didn't think about the consequences.
Where is the perspective?
The extent of my crimes when young were TPing a nasty teacher, running from the cops while walking home after curfew and blacking out the "G" in the sign at the Black Angus restaurant. I broke no windows when I was bored because I was taught to respect others property. Frankly if those kids were to flash mob my house they would have been shot. I defend my turf. I don't excuse boredom and idiocy. If you don't think of consequences then you learn them the hard way like those boys who taunted the tiger at the San Francisco zoo and were mauled. These kids learned you can get away with shit and will escalate it until it bites them in the ass. Darwin in action.
Miffed;-)
Aren't you a woman? Testoserone does some crazy shit to someone in puberty....
Ol Vic was sort of a long winded bastard, wasn't he?
This was done to the American family by the Jewish gangsters running the Federal Reserve and the whores on Wall Street. Time for them to pay for what they have done to our country!
When a few hundred thousand veterans conclude that the US government has lost legitimacy, armored vehicles and walled fortress homes will just label the occupants and their supplies as targets of opportunity for various ad-hoc infantry and armor battalions.
I thought we had at least a decade, now I'm wondering if the USA will make it to 2016 without insurrection.
She wrote the letter to Obama not realizing that he thinks American have been entitled to too much wealth for far to long. He just doesn't care, and he is working to push down the American standard of living.
If Americans understood the Marxist creep in the white house they would start a revolution to hang all the sociopathic elites that rule the US from the nearest lamp pole.
I subscribed to the white house news letter. This month I got one titled "A quick update on the economy". It was three charts the first one was for job growth a lot of negative bars on a graph for Bush and a lot of positive bars for Obama. "7.8 million jobs added the past 44 months". The next one was GDP. Again the negative Bush bars and positive 2% growth for Obama. The last one was really a laugh it has the bar graph for "Deficits Falling" Did you know the deficit was 9.4% in 2009 and now it's only 4.1%? The last line was;
"That's All Great"
But there is more work to do to build #ABetterBargain for the middle class.
From the propaganda machine.
I must make the time one of these days to write a story about the heartbreak of strong, compassionate, loving, responsible, accomplished, caring, empathetic, sympathetic, honorable, prosperous, proud, patriotic, defiant, people of character and integrity. Properly and truly told, it will be a much sadder story than this.
Damn shame that guy got hit by a bus.
He was an inspiration to us all.
One of the last of a dying breed.
Seriously, this:
was the rule decades ago and should be the rule anytime, though it's getting increasingly more difficult due to extinction of repair jobs (due to becoming increasingly cheaper to just toss away and replace stuff than repair it).
What used to be a "working middle class" is now called "working poor"
....If you like your President-you can keep it!.......
Wanta see some pictures?

Fraud = Sales
All that stuff can be put on the revenue line and just pile lossed on the fraud side and claim insurance
Sports Authority probably paid the mob to make the raids
Speaking of veterans, can you name the war after World War Ii in which your personal freedom as an American and the republic itself was threatened?
I can't either.
Noam Chomsky was right when he said that there is no such thing as admirable government - all governments will try to fuck you - IF YOU LET THEM.
That is why it is important that citizens stay educated, informed and vigilant. If they do not their government will not hesitate to rob them of their rights and freedoms.
In America the people had stood idly by as step by step freedoms and rights have been stripped from them - like frogs boiling in a pot.
Instead of being outraged over the Bradley Manning situation and protesting they sit at home watching Dancing with Stars and gobbling 241 Dominos Pizza with Family Sized Cokes (one per person)
I could name a dozen other incidents where Americans dismissed warnings - most continue to dismiss the threat of the NSA spying by saying 'I didn't do anything wrong so I don't care if they spy on me' You StUPID FUCKING MORONS!!!
Well you know what Yolandas of the world - FUCK YOU. Cry me a goddam river why don't you. Don't blame Obama - or Bush - or Nixon - of the bankers - or Bernanke - or Geitner - or Cheney - of Rumsfeld
Blame YOURSELF. YOU are responsible for electing good government - YOU are responsible for yourself and your family - YOU are responsible for remaining vigilant to ensure that you DON'T get fucked.
Well now all of this shit has caught up with the American people who live in a state of apathy with their faces glued to Facebook checking to see if they have a new friend - or uploading photos of their Big Macs - or TWATTING a shot of their latest bowel movement, before it circles the bowl.
THIS IS the price you pay for decades of failing to take responsibility.
I HAVE NOT ONE OUNCE OF PITY FOR YOU - OR ANYONE ELSE IN YOUR SITUATION - FUCK YOU AND YOUR LETTER - LOOK IN THE MIRROR IF YOU WANT SOMEONE TO BLAME
You want viral - send this rant viral - because this letter outlines the exact reasons why America is RIGHT FUCKED.
Excellent rant sir!
Things are just rosy, according to the email I received from the White House today:
Nothing to see here. Move on sheeple....
The letter probably gave him a boner.
If I ever have kids, im going to home school them to hate this specific president.
Might write a childrens book with this Rough Draft/plot:
"Once upon a time, there was a president of a land that we used to call America, he was the worst president that ever did exist, he borrowed money from china to build flying robots that dropped bombs on children, he made it impossible for people to go to the doctor, and he was best friends with an evil company called the Federal Reserve which was a bank, like the bank where dad goes to cash his paycheck, except this bank made fake money and gave it to their friends, and ontop of that all of their friends spent the money on wars and when people could not afford to eat, they kept printing more money and that made food more expensive for poor people, and because federal reserve was printing money and making food more expensive people died and then the banks made houses very expensive and people tried to buy a house but then they could not afford the loans and 20 million people's houses got taken away, and there were over 17 million homeless people, even though there were 20 million empty houses , and Obama did not care, he just played golf had fancy parties in the white house which was a big house made of white stone, its no longer there because China blew it up when they got made that we weren't paying them back, and Obama would go to vacations with his family when most people were starving and he would sit on Donald Ducks lap and his children would make fun of the other children who could not go to disney land" Obama was a very very evil man, he got on TV and told people that they did not work hard to make their businesses and that he said that HE made their businesses, but most people went out of business because Obama kept making the taxes go up and eventually people could not afford their businesses so they had to fire people and more people went hungry.Obama did not want us to use coal, so he shut down all the coal plants and then when the natural gas was getting expensive he shut that down too, that christmas everyone hated Obama because it was the first christmas where we did not have electricity to light up our christmas trees, we could not afford a real Christmas tree because obama bought all of them for his christmas party, Obama had lights on his christmas tree because he had 15 hummers with jumper cables hooked up to the white house, and I remember when I had to work for Obama bringing diesel fuel to keep the hummers running for his christmas tree just to put food in front of you, it was terrible, I would have to walk 100 miles in the snow with no shoes to pull a waggon full of diesle fuel to keep Obamas christmas trees lit up, because Obama said he would raise taxes if we didn't.
And eventually people started to leave America, thats why we are in Canada son, and thats why no one from America is allowed to come to Canada anymore, when the wars with china and russia happened America was devastated, thank god we got out in time, now America is a colony of russia and china and they are ruining the land mining it for oil because the war burnt up all the oil in the middle east and without oil its very hard to make food....
Son, if you ever have a child, remind him how evil Obama is.
Im still working onthe anti-obama storry but I plan to make it multi-generational and I am still waiting to see how much of it will endup true, maybe you guys can help me write it.
Someone should seriously make an anti-obama anti-socialists childrens book.
;)
The veterans living on food banks are the lucky ones. The unlucky ones are those that were killed or suffered serious injuries as a result of obamas "rules of engagement", like the 17 SEALs that were killed by the insistence on so called nation building to win "hearts and minds".
i wonder about that seal team.....they were the ones that "Caught" OBL.........cant leave witnesses lying around, can you? especially when Benito Bhutto said OBL died in 2001-and she got hers too......coincidence?-same with all the airmen connected to the Minot AFB scandal, where a nuke was caught being snuck out of the base-i doubt any of the men on that project still live and breathe
Ok, the video wasn't very clear, but what race were the thugs who doing the flash mob crimes in Chicago? So if someone was poor and desperate, why would they rush into a store like Sports Authority and pull entire merchandise racks out of the store?
The race doesn't matter. The video looks like young guys fucking around. I don't see any felonies being commited.
A Nation of Sheep will Beget a Goverment of Wolves
I'm amused that the rule of flash mobs works well in Chicago, but here in the Pac NW, where I recently made a rare visit to Walmart, you can't get any alcohol w/o showing your ID. Even the old gray-haired guy (70+) had to show his.
I wasn't going to have any of this, and asked for the MoD (Mgr on Duty). After a brief discussion with the MoD, the Store Mgr showed up. When I told him that understandably his staff have no latitude, but that surely he is "empowered" to think things through, and that no other grocery or liquor store have asked me for ID in many years, he too persisted to hide behind some "new state law" for mandatory compliance of ID checks on ALL alcohol purchases by his staff. I told him he could keep the case of beer, and I'd gladly pay $1 more at Safeway, where I won't have this kind of grief.
While I was waiting for the Store Mgr to arrive, I made an effort to observe the reaction of other shoppers at the checkout nearby. They all had the look of "Ok, what's gonna happen now? Will we get on TV tonight?" I almost cracked up. When I tried to "test" the guy behind me for some kind of a "normal human being" type of reaction with my comment "Someone needs to take a stand in the so-called Land of the Free and Home of the Brave" (while keeping a non-threatening body language), the guy went blank, froze and became totally non-responsive. I was both amused and saddened by his behavior. And I would not be surprised if one of these 'poor' FSA Walmart shoppers had their iPhone out and started recording, in the hopes of catching an 'Event' to sell to the local TV.
My kids (with me) were impressed that I stuck to my principles and drove to another store, where I had no such grief, of course. Which was the PRIME objective of the whole exercise, as I pointed out to them: Civics, and having the courage to stand up for principles in response to increasing fascism.
When my teen-age daughter later heard about this from us, she asked me what I thought was behind the reason for the alleged "new law". "Not the pretext, dad, but the reason". Smart girl. I offered her 2 options: (1) It's what politicians do, to keep themselves busy, and (2) another opportunity for the real Rulers to condition the masses into automatic sheep-like obedience." She smirked and said: "Imagine what the poor shepherd would do, if the sheep all decided to disobey him and the sheepdog. People really are like sheep." I then replied: "Yes, that's true. And it's a shame that most people don't actually exercise their right to democratic dissent, but would rather sheepishly 'comply, because dissent requires real effort and complying does not. Why play baseball, when you can just watch it on the big screen, right?".
That was alot of writing to show how you really stuck it to the man there (although methinks Walmart is aiming a little low on the totem pole)! Not too mention I bet you still paid the sales tax for your boozing from Safeway, so you enable the law.
However, your instruction to your child merit an up arrow. It's also why I should never be a parent...I'd teach her to make molotovs and toss them into parked police cruisers and Mercedez at the nearest country club.
Following up on a prior article, I'm still asking grocery and wally world clerks what % of customers are using SNAP EBT and whatever to pay for groceries. My suburban store? 2 days ago the clerk estimated 75-95%. She said you can tell who they are because they're buying lots of junk food and stuff she can't afford, like lobster. No joke! They're buying lobster. She also complained that welfare cases walk in dressed better than her, with jewelry, and expensive cars. Why not? They're not paying for food, so they got disposable tax-come. It's pretty ugly-this is a region full of professionals and should not have so many tax eaters and moochers.
