Administration Updates Congress On "Obamacare Fixed By End Of November" Promise - Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa leads yet another hearing on the Obamacare implementation and the rollout of Healthcare.gov. The Committee will examine the operational challenges in the development of Healthcare.gov and the extent to which recognized Information Technology (IT) best practices were followed. This one should be fun since its the techies answering the questions - US CTO Todd Park and Deputy CIO Henry Chao answering the questions...

Live Stream here:

Chairman Issa issued the following statement:

“When HealthCare.gov launched on October 1, testing was incomplete, the system had not yet been fully tested for security concerns, and new problems kept appearing. This was President Obama’s signature legislative achievement. His administration had hundreds of millions of dollars and total control to complete the project.

“Most Americans tossed off their insurance plans haven’t yet had the opportunity to experience online sticker shock.  This hearing will ask top Administration technology officials what went wrong, what they’re doing to fix it, and whether recognized IT best practices were really followed.”

Obamacare ain't gonna be fixed, until it's nixed...

Sure, the average, working-class slob can afford another bill each monthespecially one for several hundred dollars...

You D.C. clowns just won't get understand...until you're dangling from the end of a rope, gasping, "But it wasn't my fault"...

Yup. It must be very comforting for those backing Obamacare to know that so much focus is being placed on a failed website that public discussions are rerouted from what a disaster it is anyway, website or not.

Yep, the problem is not the effin website.  The problem is Obamacare, period.

Any redeaming qualities it might have could have been written in five pages then read and understood by the public. That is precisely why they came up with a 2000+ page document which to date no one has read.

Give Croesus a cigar! Oops, that would make you a smoker and your rates would go up. Give Croesus a granola bar! This whole website thing is sleight of hand. It's not about a website, it's about the law. With all due respect (I just threw up a little in my mouth) to John Roberts and his black robed colleagues, to force people to buy a product or service is immoral. I don't give a crap about the method used to sign people up, I do care that they are being forced at gunpoint to purchase a service they have no interest in at highly inflated rates because the law requires that "pre-existing conditions" be included in the coverage. What a load of crap. "Hey Allstate, my car engine just seized up because I didn't put oil in the crankcase, can you go ahead and sign me up and replace the engine?" which incidentally is the same as "Hey Blue Shield, my heart just stopped because I love to eat at McDonald's 9 times a week and never exercise, can you go ahead and sign me up and refer me to a cardiologist?"

What needs to be fixed is the $300 'affordable' monthly premium for people making $9hr with huge student loans living at home, fuck the website.  Going to the hospital with a hangnail and coming home with a $35,000.00 bill doesn't help either.

And therein lies the rub......actually one of many rubs. This is why Obama supporters are being encouraged to call 'it' the Affordable Care Act instead of Obamacare. It will hopefully allow the distancing of the president from this debacle although clearly that is not working.

Its a non-constitutional two-step because only the House is granted taxing power. Since the ACA bill originated in the Senate, Justice Roberts rewriting of the bill's language from the bench of "penalty" to "tax," besides being illegal, gave Team Red the tax origination authority trump card to stop it. But, non-surprisingly they decided not to follow up with that. They are just as guilty as Team Blue for this legislative Rosemary's Baby.

I believe another ZHer posted this observation after Roberts ruling was made.

Yep, this meme is officially played out. Congressional hearings are always the death nell.

My only thought on the topic at this point is, was the website just a calculated distraction? Everyone I've heard from was smart enough to sign up at the Medicaid website when they couldn't get through on healthcare.gov.... Was this whole thing just an evil plan to funnel people into medicaid ?

The free shit army conquers again!

Couldn't all of this have been accomplished by a web site that simply compiled a list of available plans by zip which then directs the customer to buy the selected plan directly from the provider...and finally adding another section to the 1040 that would qualify the tax payer for a tax credit?

Here is the email I read on the air tonight

This message came to us from Bill in Kentucky.

"Putting things in perspective: March 21st 2010 to October 1 2013 is 3 years, 6 months, 10 days.  December 7, 1941 to May 8, 1945 is 3 years, 5 months, 1 day.  What this means is that in the time we were attacked at Pearl Harbor to the day Germany surrendered is not enough time for this progressive federal government to build a working webpage.  Mobilization of millions, building tens of thousands of tanks,  planes, jeeps, subs, cruisers, destroyers, torpedoes, millions upon millions of guns, bombs, ammo, etc. Turning the tide in North Africa,  Invading Italy, D-Day,  Battle of the Bulge, Race to Berlin - all while we were also fighting the Japanese in the Pacific!!  And in that amount of time - this administration can't build a working webpage."

If there's one thing a gangster politican doesn't need to worry about, it's being investigated by the tiny mind of Darrell Issa.

He hasn't produced one single result in all of his sham investigations.

Does Issa have the authority to arrest Holder for contempt?  Yup:

Despite voting to hold Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. in contempt of Congress, there’s little House Republicans can do in the short term to compel him to turn over documents — unless it wanted to revisit a long-dormant power and arrest him.

Affordable CARE?,What a joke. For who?,people who make six figures plus a year?.So it goes online and works stlll EPIC FAIL.

I am a software developer (not websites, but the process is the same). The way to develop a code that works is to start with some basic functionality and incrementally add capability to it, testing it after every incremental addition to make sure the code still works. What the ass-clowns who designed the Obamacare website appear to have done is to write the entire application in pieces, connected the pieces together, and then switched it on and hoped everything worked. Of course it didn't work, and when you do it that way the code is virtually impossible to debug because you don't know what caused the problem. With the incremental approach, if it doesn't work you know exactly where to look for the bug.
