Back in October, when Obamacare's birthing problems first became evident, and when healthcare.gov was revealed as the best website ever built... using ForTran... we suggested that it was only a matter of time before Obama blames the evil, terroristy hackers of the world and mostly of Syria. Moments ago, that just happened.

Stop blaming Fortran. Programmers that know how to program could have created a working site in any language. Is there a market for Fortran programmers? I never used it outside of school but I am sure I could get back up to speed if the price was right.
From my, albeit limited, perspective there is still a market for Fortran programmers - high end engineering and science. Fortran numerical calculations are faster than C++ - matvecs and the like. Which makes me wonder why it was used for the website or its backend. I wouldn't think they'd need LAPACK or BLAS, and even if they did there are interfaces to them from more widely used languages.
Fortran programmers who speak Esperanto get the really big bucks.
Like insanelysane said - or the obverse. You can write bad code in any language, some just make that easier.
I hate to say it, but LAPACK and BLAS also exist in C and C++, and in general, are the same speed as Fortran libraries (but you can add wasted cycles with C++'s overhead, and try-catch, if you desire). They've even been re-written for GPU's - and you can get them free for CUDA.
If they're using fortran, it's just because they had some legacy code that had fortran calling conventions, and didn't want to re-write it, or write "thunks".
If you don't know what thunk means, you're either not a real programmer or haven't been around long.
