CME Hacked
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange admits that in July it was hacked:
- *CME HAD CYBER INTRUSION IN JULY, SOME CUSTOMER INFO COMPROMISED
- *CME: SOME CUSTOMER INFO ON CME CLEARPORT PLATFORM COMPROMISED
- *CME GROUP NO EVIDENCE TRADES ON CME GLOBEX ADVERSELY IMPACTED
Algos # 0001 through #9999 now have their Vacuum Tube Security Number leaked

In a communication to certain customers today, CME Group confirmed it was the victim of a cyber intrusion in July, making it one of the many organizations subject to this type of crime in recent months.
To date, there is no evidence that trades on CME Globex were adversely impacted, or that the provision of clearing services by CME Clearing or CME Clearing Europe, or trading in CME markets, were disrupted.
CME Group takes these events very seriously and places a high priority on protecting its customers' information and ensuring the integrity of its markets. Though CME Group maintains sophisticated systems, teams and processes to prevent such incidents, and promptly took significant actions to address the incident, CME Group has learned that certain customer information relating to the CME ClearPort platform was compromised. To protect participants, CME Group forced a change to customer credentials impacted by the incident, and is corresponding directly with the impacted customers.
The incident is the subject of an ongoing federal criminal investigation and CME Group is cooperating with law enforcement in its investigation into this matter.

Not many people know that the Fed of Cleveland was hacked in 2010 and some Asian was arrested by the Secret Service selling ill gotten Credit Card numbers. They kept that very quiet. http://www.bankinfosecurity.com/cleveland-federal-reserve-hacked-a-3115 I made up some fliers on the topic and handed them out to people passing by in front of the Fed bank in Cleveland. They were pleased.
If their was a CDS on cyber terrorism causing the complete meltdown of stocks and bonds, I for one would place a large wager on it. It would be the best way out for banksters and politicians after the SHTF

I can see the lure of Bitcoin as an alternate currency, however it is exactly that (hacking) which makes me think it can't be a viable long term solution

I do, but didn't neg you. My sarcarsm was directed at the anti-bitcoin crowd here who seems to confuse hacking a website with hacking the thing itself, e.g. just because CME got hacked doesn't mean gold has been, and just because a bitcoin exchange gets hacked doesn't mean bitcoin has.

And the Bitards get grief for other reasons. For one thing, they dodge, evade and obsfucate when pressed with legitimate concerns and questions.
NO ONE wants to disclose their vulnerabilities.
That anyone would consider something that's based on electronic infrastructure to be safe...

NOTE: If you do a search on Yahoo for this t-shirt you get the standard collection of "images;" if you click on any of those images it comes up with a generic "Yahoo images" page- they've censored the t-shirt. I think that this should pretty much paint the picture...
Please, I'm deeply in love with the CME. it's a very meaningful long-term relationship. Don't be so hard on my signfiicant other; after-all no one is perfect.
