Total Healthcare "Enrollment" As A Result Of Obamacare: -3.9 Million

Tyler Durden's picture

"We fumbled the rollout on this health-care law," could be President Obama's understatement of the century. In the month-or-so since Obamacare was unleashed 106,185 people enrolled (based on a loose re-definition by the White House). However, in that same period, the WSJ reports a stunning 4.02 million people received policy cancellations. So, in a month, a total of 3,918,205 fewer people are now 'enrolled' in a heathcare plan than before Obamacare. So far, California, Florida, and Washington are suffering the most under Obamacare...

And here's the states where the coverage cancellations are the greatest...

and the additions and cancellations broken down by state...

Not a bad deal, so long as you're conscious enough to sign on the dotted line.  Of course, the King will have to make a slight change to the law (by administrative action) to prevent such people from cancelling their own plans 6 months later, after their hospital bills were taken care of.

Just carry around a power of attorney form.  "When unconcious and at an entrance to a urgent care facility, I hereby authorize power of attorney for the purposes of obtaining health care to that guy ->"

In fact it can be one of those medical emergancy bracelets marketed back in the 80's.

Yeah; what is all this health care shit, anyway? Are you joking? I'm old, I watch people dying, the whole movie; with and with-out "insurance". You get Cancer, are you going to sign up for the $3,000 a bag chemicals? You better do your hoework, first. Cause they don't cure anybody, buddy. Take your vitamins everyday and stay the fuck away from doctors. When it's time to go; it's time to go; be a Roman not a child.

I'll go out on a limb here and guess that you are not a woman.  Women don't think like that. Any guy who is in any way obligated to a woman will end up getting health insurance if he can afford it.  Or else the woman will find another man who will get health insurance.  She has precious plumbing that must be serviced several times a year.  Plus, she has need to talk, and so must see the doctor - who is paid to listen.

"I don't think Obama intends for people like you or me to be able to game his system...."

Are you paying attention AT ALL???

You clearly don't grasp the purpose of this plan, which is to enable those who don't have to receive what those who do have, have.

It's this sort of ignorance that enabled this law in the first place and yes, I'll very much be able to "game the system", using the law-   it's very simple, actually.

The operative words here are "you think"- you think you still have a say in this matter-  wake up.

I've explained my reasoning well enough in my comments above. At 53 years old, the ice you are skating on is getting thinner. If you were 20 years old, your plan would carry far less risk and in fact, makes good sense. I've been to funerals for people your age; shit can break all of a sudden. It's your life and your money, I really don't care what you do or what happens to you for deciding to go uninsured.

That's not exactly true. Every hospital and physician has official rates but that is not what they actually get or the real price. Insurers negotiate lower prices and if you push you can get about the same price.

The problem as stated is that when your premiums exceed your real ability to pay and your out of pocket simulateously skyrockets you have no choice. You are forced to officially become a criminal and not comply. The State actually makes you a criminal and that gives them real power over you.

It goes like this. The benificent government of the USA orders all subjects...er, citizens to buy a new car built to minimum government specifications. This car will cost $1million dollars. Yes, yours are cheaper but they are crappy and not up to superior government specs and we have to buy other people free cars which also cost a million dollars. If you do not buy the million dollar car you are in violation and subject to penalty.

So, instead of everyone having cars of different prices and capabilities, no one has cars and all are criminals. Welcome to Amerika, comrades!

Why should I pay for it?  It's a shame when the one in a million person gets stuck with a bad blood transfusion, or for those who may have been born with it (relatively rare in developed countries using suppresive drugs), but if you chose to fuck, regardless of whether or not you knew the status of your partner....not my fault.

Aids is a blood borne disease transmitted primarily by anal sex.  As a distinguished Australian doctor who spent an enormous amount of time in Africa providing voluntary eye surgery pointed out, M-F transmission occurs in Africa because anal sex has historically been used there as a birth prevention measure.  Homosexual males, the predominant infected parties in Western countries don't have birth control as a reason.

Sorry "balanced" but you sound pretty ignorant.

True but not complete.  On purpose?

The House bill allows those with cancelled policies to keep those policies for another year.  But it also allows the Insurance Companies to continue selling those "defective" policies to the general public for another year.  That second part is not in the President's proposal.

Any of the dipshit GOP or Democrats are just as compromised.  Do you really think they'll stick their necks on the line with a sub 10% approval rating?  Fuck no.

and "Daddy's got a sweet tooth tonight!" (see below.) and people wonder why equities continue to soar. "the no coverage recovery" powers on. I mean...hey, America Inc!...health insurance is in fact an asset you morons! you wanna plow everything into housing instead? hahahahahaha. have you ever actually owned a home? almost as bad as running a gold mine. "I'll pay one dollar for that thank you very much." I mean Solar City is up 400 percent this year alone. I guarantee your house value isn't. and oh, btw...your house doesn't pay you a dividend either. yeah, yeah..."those companies don't have profits!" you say. tell me...who in fact does? if the dividend is high enough you could make all your principle back on that alone. again...not saying "buy" here...in fact there's a lot to be said for raising capital right now even though all the "zombie banks" will only offer .000000000000000000001 percent on your cash right now. there's no shortage of cash or cash flow right now...we've never had more with the huge energy boom underway...and that's just for starters. I'm still sticking with my "prices collapse" thesis. this is not "malinvestment" but a textbook case of OVERinvestment and the problem of "stranded capital" (in this case "the entire State of Arizona.") As the President is only now discovering "simply changing the rules" doesn't cause private capital to act any more (or less...meaning "rational" I guess...although show where I can find rationalism in the markets right now. Treasuries? You better hope not.) insane.

Cancel 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, hell, 10 million insurance policies of the middle class - then re-enroll them on Obamacare with a 30%-50% higher premium.

This was the plan all along.  Buy votes and enrich insurance companies and corporatcare hospitals.  That's why the Republicrats and Demicans are both behind it.

Oh sure, there willl be theater and changes in CONgress, and Executive Branch decrees; however, the end result will still be higher cost for less healthcare.

Lots of annecdotal evidence supporting you.  If it's true (and I think it may be), it's just a matter of time (days or weeks) before the insurance companies start screaming bloody murder.  This loss of premium revenue will begin showing up in the next quarterlies.  We s/b seeing pre-announcements to that effect shortly.  Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of pricks.

Sat, 11/16/2013 - 01:02 | 4159963 honestann

Yes, and this is absolutely hilarious!

Why?

Because the health insurers wrote this law.

And, they are the ones canceling the policies.

But that's not all!  When the dust has settled, we (and the health insurers) will find that almost everyone with health insurance has serious, expensive health problems!

Really, this is absolutely delicious.  Unless most healthy individuals become completely brain-damaged berserko in the next few months, the health-insurance companies who created Obamacare will go out of the health-care business to avoid going out of business entirely!  Hahaha!

And those criminals at the health-insurance companies who wrote Obamacare were sure they would make an absolute killing from Obamacare!  Hahaha!  And in fact they would have if everyone signed up for Obamacare.  Woops!  Hahaha!  Up theirs!

Those health-insurance companies that don't go out of business immediately will do so by not paying doctors, clinics, hospitals and pharmacies.  Oh, sure, they'll claim they are just "paying late", but in the end, they will pay only a tiny fraction of claims, because that's all their revenue will support.

So the next to fall will be doctors, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and companies that provide health-care services (like medical tests, blood analysis, etc).  As they don't get paid, they will refuse to participate in Obamacare in droves, or quit entirely.

If all goes right (fat chance), Obamacare might create a gigantic, low-cost, high-quality "cash-for-health-services" industry.  Most everyone would applaud that... which is why they absolutely won't tolerate it... somehow.

honestann's picture

Yes, and you know what?  For simple issues, they are just fine, so I applaud providing the least expensive service that is sufficient for each issue.  Seriously, why pay more when it is not necessary?

Consider this.  When I was living in the USSA until 3 years ago, I provide my own health care, did my own research, estimated what were the most likely causes, what were the most likely ways to deal with the situation, etc.  And I ordered medication from foreign countries when necessary (usually antibiotics), but almost always found natural herbs and vitamins more effective than mainstream drug companies that only partially treat symptoms and keep you addicted for life.

So if I can take care of myself with ZERO formal medical services, there is no reason that non-doctors who spend year after year after year seeing patients with symptoms and how to treat them... handle what they can handle.

Hell, a lot of visits these days are just to get prescriptions... prescriptions that doctors used to give without a completely useless extraneous visit at all.  So yeah, nothing wrong with keeping it cheap when it can be cheap, and leaving the difficult cases to the more expert (or hopefully more expert).  Incidentally, the people I know and informally give my personal opinions to say their success rate following my opinion is much better (and vastly cheaper) than following the doctor "expert" opinion.

Should the doctors take charge whenever an obscure case arises?  Absolutely yes.

Should cheaper folks suffice to write the 134th consecutive monthly prescription for some drug you'll need to take for a lifetime?  Well, assuming there is no effective natural alternative or cure, then why bother?

PS:  The most important take-away in the USSA and other western countries is: each individual is 100% responsible for, and in charge of, their own health.  When any individual goes to a doctor, they go to get advice.  Period.  Anyone who just switches off their brains and does what "professionals" and "authorities" tell them is their own worst enemy (just ahead of those "professionals" and "authorities").  Today, those professionals are the greatest cause of health problems, and the greatest reasons so many people have chronic health problems for life (though most of the design of this abuse is done at the drug companies who tell doctors what to do and prescribe).

I don't know about delicious but this bill seems to be designed to provoke a certain outcome. A very painful outcome when its fully realized. Namely that the insurance companies will go out of business. I have no love for these bloodsuckers but they are only part of the problem. The government, insurance companies and the hospital/drug industrial complex are a vast criminal family and Uncle Sugar decided to take the other families out and seize the whole pie. The democrats figured out a way to separate insurance and health providers from their revenue stream. Any business they get will have to come through the government and the website doesn't work. "Oops, sorry bout that. We are working on it."

You aim at the wrong enemies. First, insurers had to help write lots of the law because the legislators don't know shit about insurance and pricing risk. Having said that when you write legislation with leftists it is like negotiating with the Mafia or being a fish and negotiating with a shark. They also did not write all aspects as the law goes into everything like the new definition of full time employment and mandatory benefits. What I believe they did was try to get the best deal possible hoping the coercive effects of law would force the right demographics to buy insurance and spread risk. Well, that ain't happening and I am guessing they are passing kidney stones in boardrooms across America right now.

Also, you are not allowed a cash market. Everyone is required to buy this insurance and cash markets become illegal. Now, you may get one but it will actually be a black market in medicine, much like the old Soviet Union! History does repeat itself.

Can you provide me a reference that shows that providing medical services for cash becomes illegal under Obamacare.  I do not believe that is true.  And in fact, ZH had a story a week or two ago about some doctors opening up exactly such a clinic, and charging about 20% as much for all services.

They can do that because:

#1:  no wait for payment.
#2:  100% certainty they get paid.
#3:  100% certainty they get their asking price.
#4:  no local, county, state, federal paperwork!
#5:  no need to send patient data to slimeballs.
#6:  ability to provide what care they consider best.
#7:  no big brother controlling their every move.
#8:  ability to give rational cost/benefit advice.
#9:  an alternative to giving up their career.

And many more, I'm sure.

-----

And PS, no prey is required to assist predators.  That's pure nonsense.

When you order everyone in America to buy insurance by definition a cash or pure cash market is illegal. Now, because the deductibles are so high and many will opt to become criminals there will be a de facto cash market, probably bigger than every. And yes, I know that many phsicians are going to forms of concierge service for cash.

I am a libertarian. I agree with your points as the way to go. Frankly, if you leave a market alone everyone is free to negotiate with their fellow man on prices, services and the terms of any contracts. In a free market all competing interest achieve equilibrium. Government bulldozes it's way through all those issues and enforces it's own contract.

I personally believe Obamacare will fail and fall. The question is what will come afterwards.

The insurance companies counted the votes in both Democrat controlled Houses of Congress and saw their best chance was to have some influence on the legislation itself since no one would read it (except Michele Bachmann.)

But then the WH and HHS regulators went to town turning an aready disgusting law into Marxist hash. Marxist hash is made with the following ingredients:

Ten stolen potatoes

One pound of stolen pork.

In keeping with the recent propaganda onslaught by the vaccine industry, the corporate media presented two of it's current favorite spokespeople, Piers Morgan and Dr. Oz, to publicly demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of flu shots. Poetically enough, it took only days after the shot for Morgan to fall ill, certainly dampening the effect of this live TV stunt.

This is important, I found this video after it had been "disappeared".

It shows video of testing by Argonne National Lab that a standard nuclear reactor can blow sky high in a type of nuclear explosion.

14 minutes into the video is the biggest bang

This proves that Fuku 3 can and did blow up in a nuclear explosion, and that is the only way the force could be created to get underneath the nuclear fuels to launch them and aerosolized them into the atmosphere. Which is proven in the second link from EPA data that I data mined.
