Guess The Profit Margin
In today's finance lesson, JCPenney demonstrates what happens when one takes the X in TR=P*X a little too far. As for that "Old Normal" concept of of actually generating a profit on TR... well, just ask Amazon.

Who the fuck would mark down Izod to $1.97?
Must be an early going out of biz sale?
Maybe those are the "Irregular" size ones.
In today's finance lesson,...
I don't know what the lesson really is, but JCP has been trading up 8% all morning.
and someone will eventually buy those neon green and orange shirts and ever so stylish green and blue plaid shorts for $2
Time for corporate executives to take a pay cut so we can free up revenue for worker's pensions. Government pensioners are enjoying excellent pensions and retirement benefits - why shouldn't private sector workers enjoy the same rewards?

I really dig the way ZH is getting into the academics
Etot = Ekin + Epot + U
+1 + correction, you may even agree :-)
Etot = Ekin + Epot + f(U)
How about this
Etot = Ekin + Epot + f(U) + Ck
How come you don't show up much lately, that HLF distributorship keepin' ya busy?
Heheeheh- Que the bondholders, who are now pooping their pants while watching JCP liquidate what they THOUGHT were gonna be proceeds of the liquidation....
Burn baby burn!
I paid $4 for those pants on the left 6 months ago, bought 4 of em. Fuckin deflation!
Did they come with a free bowl of soup?

+1 to both you and Sea for catching the Caddyshack reference!
But it looks good on you.
must be made of gold and silver or something
Of course is trade up, BTFD!
Biflation lesson #16: as consumer buying power erodes, and end-demand ebbs, so must profit margins in a proportionate manner.
Profit margin......... What's a profit margin???...... Oh, those!!! LOL. Don't be such and old timer!! Those don't matter any more!!!
irregular sizes these days as in.... below 36 LOL!
What does JCP and the guy selling Rolexes for $19.95 on the street corner have in common?
Maybe they'll be drawn in by this $1.97 sales rack so they can push their $10 polo cologne and $4 Hai Karate
Someone will go in there and just buy up the Izod (and other brand name stuff) for $1.97 and turn around and sell it on eBay for $5+ and get a good ROI.
Last year I bought 10 of these for $2.97. Now I look better while painting, or working in the yard.
I am still patiently awaiting the $1.63 offer
Notice the rack is still full. It's the old Confucious saying: "If pants are marked down to $1.97, but there is no one in the store to see it, will the cash register still make a sound?"
They have decent tall selection. 1.97, looks about right for are fake recovery times.
If they buy one and steal two others..they might be able to make some money
There's a JCP 5 mins from me.
I always liked the clothes there, I will be backing the truck up...
I like their Claiborne dress shirts, but not at 50 freakin' bucks a pop.
Their Claiborne was way nicer back in the day. It kind of fell off. Haven't seen a nice Claiborne in years aka since the "new" JCP. $50 bucks though?! WTF?! They are out of their mind.
I have noticed that their last deperate attempt is that they are raising all their price so you "feel" like you are buy something worth a damn. LOL. I tried this the other day. I tried to sell a bag of dog shit for $10 and no one would buy it so I started selling it at $20 assuring them it was a high quality bag of dog shit... well... I am sure you can figure out what my EBITDA was........ Some how trades can't figure out the same with JCP.
0% Profits, 0% Interest Rates ...... 0% Return on Capital
hey, but sales are up! everything's good, don't ruin the party
"Sales are up, I'm happy."
It's all about revenues, not profits, didn't you get the memo?
But they make it up on volume.....
IZOD just became uncool again.
IZOD was never cool.
unless you're a wheelsteailing scouse
Scousers had a lot of opportunity in the 80s to travel the continent of Europe to pick up Lacoste, Fila, Ellesse etc. shellsuits for free
They're cheaper than buying painters pants for when you're doing home improvement shit.
Eah rrite eahhhh rrite!!!!
Ceammmm dtown ceammmmm dtown.
While we never wore IZOD, there were many who did.
With the collar turned up?
Ask Berke Breathed about Izod
Something completely scary:

Dennis Gartman does not see froth in the stock market.
i think my wife just had a heartattack ...
There are laws keeping these idiots from selling below cost. If some shit is marked $1.97, you can bet they paid less for it
There are laws ...
The speed limit only applies if a cop is around.
Fraud only applies if the government lackey is doing his/her job.
Clothing markups are colossal - the average pair of jeans has like 50 cents of cotton in them - but with the manufacturing and shipping, maybe at $1.97 they are breaking even if that.
Who told you that? It is completely wrong. In fact, it is against the law to tell a retailer what they can sell for. Once they own it, they can sell it for whatever they want to. Once, there were fair trade laws, but not for a long time.
big stores sell popular items, like coffee, at a loss, to get you in the store.
they make up the difference if you buy other things while you are there.
Does the Bernank know about this? Because $2 bucks for new pants/shirts sounds deflationary to me, and there is no way we're ever going to be able to inflate our way out of servicing the debt if citizens discover that paying less for goods and services is preferable to underwriting Wall Street welfare.
$1.97 is too expensive. I'll wait for it to go on sale.

Walmart will match this price
Y'know, ZH should beware a fueling the dark side here. As pragmatic hobo alludes, posting photos of silly discounts on the cusp of our annual consumption orgy while we're still trying to pay our debts from the last, has the potential to encourage more debt glutony. Believing that most ZHers believe that more debt is anathema to a sound economic future, ZH should stick to posting photos extolling the virtues of thrift - say photos of Jamie Dimon exiting his limo - so as to inculcate the masses with the wages of sin.
I'm only kinda kidding. Heading over to JCP at lunch to check the clearance racks.
Now I know where to do my Xmas shopping.
5 Below can buy it all and sell it for $5
The psychology of ending the price in a "7" could very well lift JCP back into a well organized top-tier retailer.
/s
Buy for $2
Sell on eBay for $15
The cancer is evident elsewhere on the globe as well.
My wife came back from a shopping spree recently from an exclusive shopping precinct where she had not been for a long time.
She picked up exclusive dresses that she has worn to weddings in the last two weeks which drew rave reviews. Little did people know that she picked them up for less than $40 each when the orginal prices were well over $500 each.
When I asked her about how many shops were closed she looked at me, drew a breath and said "it was scary, almost a third."
The experiments of our money masters are drawing to an ugly close.
Post a pic of your wife wearing aforementioned "exclusive dress" or it didn't happen.
Exactly. Face and all.
And just so we know it's not fake, have her hold a sign that reads: I WANT YOU TO UNDRESS ME, TRIMMED HEDGE
LOL. Believe it or not I did not take any photos and in my time zone it is now the dead of night.
She actually said to me yesterday that I should try and see things from her point of view.
I promptly got up, went to the kitchen sink and looked out the window.
was her outfit from lane bryant or the dress barn???? moooooooo
JCP going mainstreet: Buy high, sell low.
the real bargains are in the big and fat section. sorry, that's big and tall
Does that $1.97 include the rack and hangars too?
Well the sign doesn't say $1.97 each so I presume it might be for the hangers, the rack and ALL the clothes.
$1.97 still nets a 50% profit on anything made in Chinese prison camps.
NOTE TO SELF.............................. Do NOT Buy MOAR Foreign made SHIT I do not need.
Do not buy anything that costs less than the square footage it consumes.
The big deal now is IPOing social media.
JCP is in the wrong business.
So that is what the inside of JCP store looks like?
keep in mind those pants were made in china and cost JCP 5 cents...
and JCP will shortly be merging with the Salvation Army....
sending back the clear spray rubber and getting the pants for my bro in law... two pair
ah darn
went there and all size 18 waist
i am sure the JCP buyer got a bonus and midgets get a good deal
Profit margin?
Someone drawing jesus doodles in their economics book again?
When did Foxcon start manufacturing IZOD shorts. Make sure you look for the slave tested label before you buy .
