My experience is the same. They say they are willing to have theoretical discussions about how to make sure everyone is covered and conceptual ideas about what this should look like. But when confronted with the reality of what this is, a bloated, buggy, unworkable, security ridden business application that costs way too much, well, then they are not interested in a dialog.

It's actually quite revealing and entertaining to have interactions with Progressives.
Awhile back we were at a PTA meeting when one woman proposed we use funds to give all the teachers and staff free lunch on Fridays " to show we cared for them". Mr M,who was treasurer, ran the numbers and told her this would result in spending 1/3 of our money by the end of the school year. He explained this was an inappropriate use of funds where people had donated specifically for school projects not covered in the operating costs of the school. The debate got very heated and finally she got up, walked to the door, and said " All I want to do is show we care. I don't think a free lunch on Fridays is too much to ask. I'm not staying a minute longer with those who don't care for others and reduce everything to money!" She slammed the door as she left.
We had to finally conclude some really don't get the " No Free Lunch" reality and no amount of discussion or reason will change it. It aways will descend into " you don't care".

Well Jena, I was loath to continue the story because it would have been titled Progessives are More Politically Astute than Non Progessives. The next day she talked to all the staff and told them her proposal as well as how a selected few were determined to stop her generous gift. The back lash against us was furious. We held firm for quite awhile until Mr M said he was done with this shit and asked a parent (who was an accountant that had shown interest being the PTA treasurer ) to take the task because " his work was taking too much of his time at the moment". He stroked her ego stating she was eminently more qualified for the job than he. She took the bait and we high fived it out of there. The free lunch was instituted.
Just as a final note. The school now is financially unstable and Mrs Progressive was dumped and divorced by her husband citing irreconcilable differences. I hear he fled the state.

ACA = not your usual clusterfuck... I don't have to work and beginning to think the Free Shit is starting to add up based on Income. Free medical, free food, not sure about Section-8 housing voucher.. I have a buddy who is looking at going the "full disability" route. Its not that I hate my business, its just the cost/benefit is starting to skew in the direction of joining the Free Shit Army. Aca should have never passed, never been funded and been repealed long ago. The gov't is broken - USSA stats and projections are just a string of lies. I would guess Obomber has told the insurers to squeeze the premiums down as much as possible - in a few years my medical insurance will equal a $250k to $300k mortgage payment.
If I could, QQQBall, I'd give you 1000 up-votes for your comment. I decided long ago to not participate in ACA, at all, and am thinking of not filing income taxes after my 2013 return this year. I will never become one of the FSA, though the welfare state is rapidly gaining traction. What's worse, in my mind, are the millions of public employees, fed, state and local, who are worthless shits making HUGE paychecks and spending it on worthless shit, all the while driving real estate prices back up.
I looked at some $300-500,000 homes, just for kicks, and decided they're worth nowhere near their asking prices. I suppose a couple of teachers making $100,000 each (not unusual) would buy such crap. They will become the next victims of mortgage default.
RE needs to drop another 30% almost everywhere, to be reasonably valued, but the Fed won't let it happen. I'd love to see them taper, Wall Street completely freak out and the economy go into the tank. I'm 60, lived a good life, want to get out of the matrix. So, If I get free ACA, I offset the $10k/year premium I am looking at; A section-8 voucher for even a crappy 1br is prolly $900 here; toss in SNAP and whatever else is vailable and you talking $25k a year coming in via Free Shit Armey - now what does someone with no writeoffs earning over $150k to $200k a year pay in Fed, State and Local taxes? My buddy will get disability andwork under the table and earn more than he does now with less risk since the disability shows up every month or 2 weeks or whatever. The gov't is creating and has creasted an huge disincentive against working...

SC is riddled with rules. Think eastern TN, lots of places in Arkansas that would fly. One of my employees father lives in south arkansas and has five campers near a river that he rents out. If you own 10 acres in arkansas you can do whatever you please concerning a septic tank, series of 55 gallon drums or whatever. A good well is around $8k, then you've got solar. 10 acres in rural parts of AR can be had for $15k in a lot of parts. A bud just bought 24 for $20k close to lousiana.

Hubby & I have 6 acres in northeastern Tennessee. It's nice & remote, but there are restrictions on size of house (and yeah, no campers). No restrictions on gardening or raising livestock though. Unrestricted land in eastern Tenn. is very pricey - generally $10,000 per acre or more, but there is still some nice remote stuff.
