Quote Of The Day: JCPenney Edition
Despite the stock's renaissance (eerily reminiscent of Eastman Kodak), recent images of the crammed and disorganized racks at various JCPenney stores do little to conjure confidence that staff or management either know what they are doing - or give a shit... except for this clarifying quote...
"What one may misconstrue as clutter is merely a strategic effort to meet high customer demand," said Penney spokeswoman Daphne Avila.
Is that like saying, "one man's trash...?" It seems, for JCPenney that marketing and product placement come a weak second to a pit full of tangled clothes...

JC Bankrupt! Nice knowing you.
Agreed. Amazing how this lady is outright lying. All I gotta do is walk into a JCP to see first hand this "demand". And, embarrassingly, I can say I recently was in a JCP and it was dead.
Oh.... and they wouldn't take my Bitcoin, silver, gold, wife, coffee table, or slightly used Pinto as payment. Anti freedom, fake anarchist libertarian assholes!!!
What about Tally Sticks?
Due to excess demand...
ObieCare or JCP merchandise racks?
What the Fuck, All In the Family.
just turn them into alices restaurant...at least on this day they would be popular...happy thanksgiving hedgers...back to misery tommorrow..

Anyone can be the cock of the walk wearing a JCPenny black polyester jumpsuit. Long cocks. I mean....

JCPennyStock.....here we come!
Dude I am already in line! Come Join me! (I'm Lonely...)

Everything she said was wrong - it's not a strategic effort, it's desperation. It is clutter, and there is no demand. It was depressing as hell to go into one of these rotting carcasses last year and I can only imagine how bad it must be this year.
What one may misconstrue as effort to meet high customer demand, is merely the death throes of another middle income brand.
Bye bye JCP, hello 99c store.
another great leading indicator of a hollowed out middle class and the exponentially expansive shift of income to the 0,1%.........the author of a book called "Plutocrats" made the interesting point that things go fubar when the millionaires finally start to fight the billiionaires as they too realize they're also getting squeezed out of the income equation. It makes sense that this will be the tipping point
Well it is already happening, for now it is invisible even for ZHers, but next year in Q1 it will be visible for naked eye even for Joe sixpack-he will be clueless but he will see it.
To : JCP
Shit food sells. Start selling "Soylent Green". People need to eat. You could even accept EBT & SNAP. Just follow the Dollar Tree model. Problem solved.
Baghdad Bob lives in America 2013.
Maybe JCP should hire Eddie Lampert to finish it off.
I would be shorting Gen Gro PT and other holders of 2nd, 3rd tier malls.
Most in Tacoma and South Seattle are anchored by PCJ, Sears, Office Max or BB. La' Fucked.
If you think this is bad, you should try stepping into a Sears..
JCP needs to start accepting Bigcoin™
WHAT MUST BE UNDERSTOOD THE JC PENNY BRAND IS NOT WHAT IT ONCE WAS. THEIR CATALOGS USED TO BE FODDER FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR THE MOST TRENDY SHOPPING AND FASHION EXPERTS AS WELL AS PERVERTS WHO WOULD JERK OFF TO THE HALF NAKED FASHION MODELS. AT THIS PARTICULAR POINT IN TIME, LIKE WALMART, KOHLS, MACYS, SEARS, ETC., JC PENNEY IS MORE OR LESS JUST A PRODUCT MOVER FOR THE GREEDY CHINESE AND THE TRAITOROUS PROMOTERS WHO ARE ABLE TO GET THEM THE CHEAPEST CLOTHING SHOE-HORNED INTO MARKETS IN THE WEST. AT THE RATE WE ARE GOING WE ARE GOING TO BE LIVING IN SHANTY TOWNS LIKE THE POVERTY-STRICKEN ASIANS AND THEY WILL BE OUR TASK-MASTERS, THE DAMNED SHYSTERS!!!
They just need to rebrand their image and open a big store on Rodeo Drive. 50,000% margin selling to the idiot rich is how it's done.
"PERVERTS WHO WOULD JERK OFF TO THE HALF NAKED FASHION MODELS"
Same thing happened to National Geographic.
I assure you Ron Johnson is feeling no remorse.
And the BoD is sleeping just fine, too.

Onestoredoesnot a chain make, BUT, I was in JCP in Rochester NY that kicked ass. It had wide isle, smart lighting, uptempo displays and was great. It was even better than Kohl's which wrote the book on low to middle retailing.
JCP could make it if it can stop the collapse.
Did you spend your fiat currency?
....And plenty of room, with no humans present...
My JCP store looks spiffy, too- then I look at the "retail" price of virtually any item in the store, and it's 30% above any other vendor.... Oh but look- I have a coupon that knocks 10% off that price, so score!
This is the REAL problem with JCP- this sort of pricing mentality worked back in Iowa in the mid-70's, when Farmer Ted didn't have choices, because JCP was the only game in town... Now, Farmer Ted goes online, finds a retailer who isn't screwing him over, and spends his money elsewhere.
Ain't rocket science, but JCP wants us to think so. Now their debt nut is so huge, they can't even price themselves out of this mess- game over.
At $0.25, the $1 Jan '16 leap puts could be a good ~4X return in 2 years.
Or sooner.
After seeing their latest "go go go go go, spend spend spend spend" ad, I want them to crater worse than SHLD (and I thought they stopped trying) now.
The JCP near me is spending a wad inside the store but in the meantime the loading dock, in full view of mall patrons is a crumbling facade along with most of the exterior. I asked if plans included freshening up the outside; there are none. I just sit and think WTF? Who wants to enter a depressed, tired looking store? The only people that go to that JCP are looking for the shortcut to Old Navy.
Well said Daphne. Hey Lawrence Yun, watch your back.
JCP in Yorktown mall is the nicest store there. Kohl's in Elmhurst is the only store I've ever been in that looked like a bomb went off. (Well, besides WMT)
I hope jcp pulls a winner and stays in business since competition is good for consumers. Although Management at jcp, WMT, and some others recently have aghasted me....it's as if they were on a suicide mission. Proves how worthless Boards are despite their Fat Salary.
I don't care what enlightened management teams you bring to a buggy whip factory - it's still gonna fail.....
