That greatest of all American traditions - the Black Friday Thursday stampede, this year accompanied with a stabbing and a shooting, is back. A quick review of all readers may have missed by not lining up in droves outside of stores that were selling products at just above cost instead of the usual massive pre-Thanksgiving markup, via the Mail:
- The rush for Black Friday bargains has resulted in outbreaks of violence as shoppers clash over reduced price goods
- Police in Virginia have reporting a stabbing incident after two men got into a fight in the car park over a space
- Shoppers cutting in line sparked a Black Friday Brawl at another Walmart
- Some retailers opened their doors as early as 6am on Thanksgiving Day
Some details before we get into the documentary evidence:
A man has been stabbed in Virginia, a shoplifter has been shot by cops in Chicago and brawls have broken out across the nation as shoppers clash in a scramble for the best Black Friday bargains.
Chaotic scenes at several Walmart stores have already been filmed and posted to YouTube, revealing the madness that has become a tradition the day after Thanksgiving.
In one of the most violent incidents, a police officer responded to the scene of a shoplifting at a Kohl's store in Romeoville, Illinois just after 10pm on Thursday to see the alleged thief dragging another officer along with his car. The responding officer shot the driver to stop him.
Police Chief Mark Turvey said at a news conference that the injured officer had headed into the store when a man ran out, and the officer chased him to his car. 'The officer was struggling with the subject as he got into the car and then the car started to move as the officer was partially inside the car. The officer was dragged quite some distance. He couldn’t get out,' Turvey said.
The driver and the officer were both taken for hospital treatment of non-life-threatening shoulder injuries, and three people were arrested, Turvey said.
Police in Virginia also reported a stabbing after two men got into a fight in the car park over a space around 6.30pm on Thursday at a Walmart store in Tazewell County. Sheriff Brian Hieatt told WVVA that the incident occurred in the parking lot. Two men, 61-year-old Ronnie Sharp of Russell County and 35-year-old Christopher Jackson of Jewell Ridge in Tazewell County, were arguing over a parking space.
This escalated into a threat with a firearm, and then Hieatt says Sharp used a knife to cut Jackson in the arm, slicing down to the bone. Sharp is charged with malicious wounding and brandishing a firearm. Police seized a rifle from him. He is Southwest Regional Jail in Tazewell and is out on $5000 bond.
... at which point he proceeded to return to his favorite zoo store and buy "stuff" at 90% off.

Ten or so years ago, Rachel Ray was a preternaturally chipper host of a daytime cooking show on Food Network. If you like the "american chipmunk" type of girl, she wasn't bad looking. Her schtick was preparing a meal in 30 minutes or less, to show the obese couch potatos watching her that it was faster and cheaper to make it yourself than order in.
She has since been elevated into celebrity chef status, although she barely knows a tournedo from a tornado. She has produced a shelf of forgettable cook books, an impossible to watch 'talk' show, and all the ancillary marketing items ('Rachel Ray pot holders', 'Rachel Ray wine rack', 'Rachel Ray measuring spoons', &tc.) that mark the Martha Stewart/Nigella Lawson wannabes.
Rachel Ray is also an Oprah 'product' like Dr Phil. Not that I blame them for taking the lucrative gigs but they are essentially 'made' by Oprah's backing... mafia style catering to the overwhelming and loathesome 'consumer based economy' fascist business model.

If you thought any Black Friday experience you had was beyond ridiculous, just consider yourself lucky no one died (though many people find themselves dying on the inside.)
Alas, that is exactly what happened back in 2008 at a Long Island Wal-Mart. A few facts to convey this incident: over 2,000 people trampled into the store five minutes before scheduled to open. The store never in fact opened. The crowds opened it themselves, chanting push the doors in. And they did, knocking the doors off their hinges and literally basting it apart. If you're wondering what's wrong with these people? Just check out this Walmart people video and it'll all make perfect sense.
It was rumored that the employees all of sudden had to make a human chain to slow down the crowds that kept pouring. Not effective. Turned out the crowds ended up being a lethal Red Rover and they trampled a 34 year old temporary employee.
As other Wal-Mart employees tried to help the man, the crowds knocked them over as well all the while pummeling the downed man to death. When police and paramedics arrived, people kept pushing past them. When police forced the store to close, people kept pushing past them. Their excuse? I was in line since Friday morning! For 20 dollars off a PS3.

Which is exactly why the EBT class all go out on Black Friday. Half of every Walmart is looted. The malls should just close. Macy's, Sears, and JC Penney can't control the crowds because they usually have between four and six exits. It is hysterical to watch people just walk out of those stores with armfuls of merchandise. I've seen people walk out with stacks in their arms over their heads.
Other big box stores not so much. Best Buy and Target are generally very good with crowd control. Target sets up a huge winding line and cops are there to force everyone with product into the line. If you are carrying anything without a receipt, you won;t get out the door.
And most of these shoppers would say that the preppers are crazy.

A lot of people now go out to Walmart on Black Friday to stir up trouble. become an instant web celebrity. If you avoid Walmart and the malls, Black Friday is almost peaceful. Well at least in the middle of the country.
I wasn't going to go out at 4:00 to wait in line, because I was spending Thanksgiving with my family. I did go out at 10:00, to more or less survey the damage since I sell to big box retail and want to know how it was going.
What I found was that all of the rush was for one or two products at the stores. Walmart and Target were mobbed for the $299 iPad minis, a lot of the other doorbusters were untouched. Of course the 25 or so $288 50" garbage TVs were gone immediately, but the much better deal Sharp 52" TV for $390 just sat there practically untouched.
To my amazement there were pallets of $99 Power Wheels at Target left over at 10:30. I figured those would be gone in the first ten minutes. The $5 PJ bottom bins were empty, but there were plenty of $10 blankets and $4 towels. There were riots last year at Walmart for the 4 towels. Target was almost a non event, by 11:00 the store was almost empty.
Best Buy was very busy but not the madhouse I expected. My local Best Buy is #6 in the country in overall sales. The big doorbuster item was the Microsoft Surface RT tablet for $199. I bought my wife a Nexus 7 tablet for $169, price match to Micro-Center. At 11:30 there were still over 60 Surface RT tablets left. I don't think I would be long Microsoft stock if they can't even sell out a tablet for $199. Nobody touched the $4 movie bins. They were practically full. The biggest observation of mine was people who couldn't speak English buying fifteen laptops. There were six Indonesians buying more laptops than anyone would ever need.
The #1 product on Black Friday had to be the under $300 iPad mini and the $1 iPhone 5c. Walmart and Target were offering $100 and $75 gift cards when you bought the iPad as well. Effectively making the iPad $199ish. At that price there was demand for it. Not the kind of things that inspires confidence in Apple's margin going forward.
Another huge takeaway is that Microsoft is in big trouble if they can't sell out of Surface RT tablets, much better than the iPad mini, for $100 less. Demand for the XBOXone is terrible. The stores did eventually sell out of the XBOXone, but there wasn't the mad rush for it like the PS4 which sold out immediately. I talked to a guy who was trying to get a PS4. He said, "My kids have all been about XBOX for ten years, everything XBOX, saying Sony PlayStation sucks. So I asked them if they wanted an XBOXone for Christmas and they told me they wanted a PS4. Is the XBOXone really that bad?"
There were a few people who had carts filled to the brim, mostly the EBT class, the rest of the people I saw had between one and five items. If this is a sign of the all-time high economy, I don't see it.
Basically the economy on all levels is a myth. The FSA are the only ones that can really afford to buy like working people used to. Once the entitlements are cut, the resulting rioting and looting, will effectively make most retail locations untenable. The resulting layoffs via "I can't go to work because there are still flames shooting out of the automotive section, and the coroner hasn't cleared out all of the bodies." will add yet another shock to many local economies.

Spectacularly, it is the media that is creating this milieu of violence in today’s society. The riots for finding a place in line on Black Friday are specifically caused by incredible news hype. First, the media goes to great length to define the racism in America against black people, from black activists to Oprah Winfrey to the president of the United States. Then, it denies its culpability when racial groups attack whites.

The senior told police that he did not know who had hit him and never talked with him. However, a short time later, the high school resource officer located the alleged suspect.
He told the high school resource officer "it's a game he and his friends play."
The 15-year-old student was arrested and charged with third-degree assault. He is expected to appear in juvenile court in New Haven on Dec. 9.
In the "Knockout Game," an unsuspecting person is attacked for no apparent reason. Police said that the suspects are not robbing the victims, with the most common being the elderly and women. …
Violent episodes are playing out randomly across the streets of America including six victims in New Haven.
