The Other America: "Taxpayers Are The Fools... Working Is Stupid"

Tyler Durden's picture

While what little remains of America's middle class is happy and eager to put in its 9-to-5 each-and-every day, an increasing number of Americans - those record 91.5 million who are no longer part of the labor force - are perfectly happy to benefit from the ever more generous hand outs of the welfare state. Prepare yourself before listening to this... calling on her self-admitted Obamaphone, Texas welfare recipient Lucy, 32, explains why "taxpayers are the fools"...

"...To all you workers out there preaching morality about those of us who live on welfare... can you really blame us? I get to sit around all day, visit my friends, smoke weed.. and we are still gonna get paid, on time every month..."

She intends to stay on welfare her entire life, if possible, just like her parents (and expects her kids to do the same). As we vociferously concluded previously, the tragedy of America's welfare state is that work is punished.

(h/t Mish)

As we noted previously,

As quantitied, and explained by Alexander, "the single mom is better off earnings gross income of $29,000 with $57,327 in net income & benefits than to earn gross income of $69,000 with net income and benefits of $57,045."

We realize that this is a painful topic in a country in which the issue of welfare benefits, and cutting (or not) the spending side of the fiscal cliff, have become the two most sensitive social topics. Alas, none of that changes the matrix of incentives for most Americans who find themselves in a comparable situation: either being on the left side of minimum US wage, and relying on benefits, or move to the right side at far greater personal investment of work, and energy, and... have the same disposable income at the end of the day.

"Misdirection plant by the corporate welfare."

You have obviously never been witness to multi-generational welfare recipeints. Some of us have. As long as you pay someone to sit on their ass and not work, they are going to take advantage of it, as more and more Americans are discovering and taking advantage.

Is my math correct..... She gets about $1250 per month, total family benefit, to feed 2 adults and 3 children, and she's proud of that?  Does she ride her bike to Walmart too?  Or thumb her way around town?

Family of 5 on $1250 per month gets nowhere.  Something not right about her statements - more so since she admits to a drug habit.

The numbers don't add up for me.  Prank call?

Corporate welfare is as much as problem as generational welfare...  When will people recognize a 'divide and conquer' strategy when they see one?  I guess thats why its so effective.

There is more than enough blame to go around on all sides of this equation. Unfortunately we are rapidly approaching the tipping point where the status quo just won't cut it anymore and pointing fingers does no good. TPTB will carry on the charade as long as they can, then bail out.  Prepare accordingly.

This woman should be congratulated for exposing the sytem that has turned her and members of her family into what they have become over a period of three generations.

My total disgust is aimed at the government who wants to buy votes for a single day and then makes society pay for a whole life time.

"... and then makes society pay for a whole life time."

Well, not really, I mean 'YES!" to the long time, but:

a) lifetimes, and

b) 'tain't "society", 'tis an ever decreasing slice of workin' folk, who might not even be permitted to be society.

c) and of course "odious debt".

Exactly. After the healthcare sector is fully taken over by the Government, around 65% of the US economy will be under Government control. That is slightly higher than France. I rest my case.

AldousHuxley's picture

government already owns everything

problem with healthcare privatization was that insurers only took premiums when you were health then as you turn 60ish they hand the old folks over to medicare.

also in healthcare a lot of goods and services are overpriced due to tax-free status.

Think of welfare this way ... the government is outbidding the employers in her area.

AldousHuxley's picture

working poor are the suckers

rich work and get richer

poor don't work and get free stuff

taxes are taken from middle class and redistributed to lower class to keep them from unifying and revolting against the rich.

but welfare isn't the only way to get free stuff doing nothing. prisons offer the same thing, but some will say boredom is worse than stress from work.

just make sure you work smart like banksters and you will enjoy life.

On the other hand... perhaps the only way to destroy the system is to abuse the system.   Complaining about it on blogs sure doesn't seem to be doing shit.

Cut the Bonus Money for popping out moar kids.

Beam Me Up Scotty's picture

It is ironic isn't it.  A family of 5 making $1250 a month.  Why are you having ANY kids if you are only making $1250 a month?  How about you work your way up to a decent paying job, THEN having the kids?   Do any of these people stop and think that the reason they CAN'T move up the ladder is because they have kids too young?  Hard to move up to a better paying job when you have sick kids, daycare calling, sick because of sick kids, can't find a sitter, daddy won't watch the kids while you work......and on and on.

Future Jim's picture

So, in America today, if you own a business, you are not entitled to the fruits of your labor because "you didn't build that", but if you are totally on government assistance, then you are entitled to that.

OK, I got it now. It works like this: Whatever government says is correct.

We are in an economic recovery.

We must empower the little guy - by disarming the little guy.

WTC7 was NOT a controlled demolition.

Keyser's picture

The irony of the above scenario is that the welfare recipient receiving $1250 per month net, is taking home more $$$ than a McDonald's worker earning $8.81 per hour gross.  One works 160 hours per month and the other sits on their ass and smokes dope. Sad state of affairs and contributory to the demise of the US.

It's been going on for decades and won't stop until the coffers run dry.

Irony???  WHAT IRONY?.

The Banksters get all the Dosh.

1st.  By giving aid to the populace (the ones sitting on their ass), they do NOT REVOLT.

2nd. Having to pay for their Drugs (The ones imported From Afganistan  now, and Indochina in the '60s and '70s AND ALL THE CASH HAS TO BE WASHED aka LAUNDERED ) The BANKSTERS GET RICH

3rd. The Middle Class gets to work for some money, BUT  HAVE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE STATE (see previous contributors and George Carlin). The BANKSTERS GET RICH (THEY don't pay taxes or rather WE PAY to THEM).

4th. While the Lower sections in Society FIGHT IT ALL OUT.

   The BANKSTERS GET RICH

The Idea is NOT that we have to be rich, but rather to have such a wide gap in wealth, that the Banksters and their  ASSOCIATES (The Brainwashers, Media or Religious Establishments, and their Enforcers  State or Private Military) stay safe from the COMPETITION.

MORALITY  is not the most Important thing  SURVIVAL IS.

And to answer the question ...

If the government offerred me one million dollars free and clear, I would not take it. I wouldn't even have to think about it, and no, I do not already have anywhere close to one million dollars.

Just one of several examples - I was about three weeks away from having to sell my house after the .com crash because I would not take unemployment.

James_Cole's picture

Why are you having ANY kids if you are only making $1250 a month?  How about you work your way up to a decent paying job, THEN having the kids?

If you look at it realistically in the US, couples in a lot of places with single income under 100k shouldn't be having kids. But this type of social darwinism completely ignores the reason why this is the case and why it's unsustainable.

Not to mention youth should be seen as a great resource, not a great burden. Kids are way smarter than adults, just need some direction. Problem is most western nations continue to be run by useless, corrupt, greedy, senile morons.

James_Cole's picture

They are unemployable

Considering children are a reflection of the society they are raised within, maybe it's worth taking a hard look in the mirror? Consider the values these kids grew up with for the past 20 years?

"All that is valuable in human society depends upon the opportunity for development accorded the individual."

"There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children."

I agree. Thanks for admitting that the liberal fuckwads have screwed up society beyond belief.

Perhaps you'd support traditional values such as you must work to eat, you must actually do the work to achieve a passing grade and you should be judged upon the content of your character rather than being given a pass based on the color of your skin?

I'm glad you're finally coming around James. :)

It's obvious the welfare state has been a complete failure and should be done away with, wouldn't you agree?

James_Cole's picture

Thanks for admitting that the liberal fuckwads have screwed up society beyond belief.

This would only be true if their values had been put into policy. In every area of society which actually matters there are no liberal values or conservative values, there are only corporate values.

Perhaps you'd support traditional values such as you must work to eat, you must actually do the work to achieve a passing grade and you should be judged upon the content of your character rather than being given a pass based on the color of your skin?

Depends on what type of 'work' we're talking. In a society which rewards the corrupt and the criminal maybe those who are opting out have the better idea. I work for the same reason everyone works, it's preferable to the alternative.

The rest of what you write is common sense.

It's obvious the welfare state has been a complete failure and should be done away with, wouldn't you agree?

No.
