The Other America: "Taxpayers Are The Fools... Working Is Stupid"

Tyler Durden's picture

While what little remains of America's middle class is happy and eager to put in its 9-to-5 each-and-every day, an increasing number of Americans - those record 91.5 million who are no longer part of the labor force - are perfectly happy to benefit from the ever more generous hand outs of the welfare state. Prepare yourself before listening to this... calling on her self-admitted Obamaphone, Texas welfare recipient Lucy, 32, explains why "taxpayers are the fools"...

"...To all you workers out there preaching morality about those of us who live on welfare... can you really blame us? I get to sit around all day, visit my friends, smoke weed.. and we are still gonna get paid, on time every month..."

She intends to stay on welfare her entire life, if possible, just like her parents (and expects her kids to do the same). As we vociferously concluded previously, the tragedy of America's welfare state is that work is punished.

(h/t Mish)

As we noted previously,

As quantitied, and explained by Alexander, "the single mom is better off earnings gross income of $29,000 with $57,327 in net income & benefits than to earn gross income of $69,000 with net income and benefits of $57,045."

We realize that this is a painful topic in a country in which the issue of welfare benefits, and cutting (or not) the spending side of the fiscal cliff, have become the two most sensitive social topics. Alas, none of that changes the matrix of incentives for most Americans who find themselves in a comparable situation: either being on the left side of minimum US wage, and relying on benefits, or move to the right side at far greater personal investment of work, and energy, and... have the same disposable income at the end of the day.

You have obviously never been witness to multi-generational welfare recipeints. Some of us have. As long as you pay someone to sit on their ass and not work, they are going to take advantage of it, as more and more Americans are discovering and taking advantage.

Is my math correct..... She gets about $1250 per month, total family benefit, to feed 2 adults and 3 children, and she's proud of that?  Does she ride her bike to Walmart too?  Or thumb her way around town?

Family of 5 on $1250 per month gets nowhere.  Something not right about her statements - more so since she admits to a drug habit.

The numbers don't add up for me.  Prank call?

There is more than enough blame to go around on all sides of this equation. Unfortunately we are rapidly approaching the tipping point where the status quo just won't cut it anymore and pointing fingers does no good. TPTB will carry on the charade as long as they can, then bail out.  Prepare accordingly.

It is ironic isn't it.  A family of 5 making $1250 a month.  Why are you having ANY kids if you are only making $1250 a month?  How about you work your way up to a decent paying job, THEN having the kids?   Do any of these people stop and think that the reason they CAN'T move up the ladder is because they have kids too young?  Hard to move up to a better paying job when you have sick kids, daycare calling, sick because of sick kids, can't find a sitter, daddy won't watch the kids while you work......and on and on.

So, in America today, if you own a business, you are not entitled to the fruits of your labor because "you didn't build that", but if you are totally on government assistance, then you are entitled to that.

OK, I got it now. It works like this: Whatever government says is correct.

The irony of the above scenario is that the welfare recipient receiving $1250 per month net, is taking home more $$$ than a McDonald's worker earning $8.81 per hour gross.  One works 160 hours per month and the other sits on their ass and smokes dope. Sad state of affairs and contributory to the demise of the US.

The Banksters get all the Dosh.

1st.  By giving aid to the populace (the ones sitting on their ass), they do NOT REVOLT.

2nd. Having to pay for their Drugs (The ones imported From Afganistan  now, and Indochina in the '60s and '70s AND ALL THE CASH HAS TO BE WASHED aka LAUNDERED ) The BANKSTERS GET RICH

3rd. The Middle Class gets to work for some money, BUT  HAVE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE STATE (see previous contributors and George Carlin). The BANKSTERS GET RICH (THEY don't pay taxes or rather WE PAY to THEM).

4th. While the Lower sections in Society FIGHT IT ALL OUT.

The Idea is NOT that we have to be rich, but rather to have such a wide gap in wealth, that the Banksters and their  ASSOCIATES (The Brainwashers, Media or Religious Establishments, and their Enforcers  State or Private Military) stay safe from the COMPETITION.

Why are you having ANY kids if you are only making $1250 a month?  How about you work your way up to a decent paying job, THEN having the kids?

If you look at it realistically in the US, couples in a lot of places with single income under 100k shouldn't be having kids. But this type of social darwinism completely ignores the reason why this is the case and why it's unsustainable.

Not to mention youth should be seen as a great resource, not a great burden. Kids are way smarter than adults, just need some direction. Problem is most western nations continue to be run by useless, corrupt, greedy, senile morons.

I agree. Thanks for admitting that the liberal fuckwads have screwed up society beyond belief.

Perhaps you'd support traditional values such as you must work to eat, you must actually do the work to achieve a passing grade and you should be judged upon the content of your character rather than being given a pass based on the color of your skin?

I'm glad you're finally coming around James. :)

Thanks for admitting that the liberal fuckwads have screwed up society beyond belief.

This would only be true if their values had been put into policy. In every area of society which actually matters there are no liberal values or conservative values, there are only corporate values.

Perhaps you'd support traditional values such as you must work to eat, you must actually do the work to achieve a passing grade and you should be judged upon the content of your character rather than being given a pass based on the color of your skin?

Depends on what type of 'work' we're talking. In a society which rewards the corrupt and the criminal maybe those who are opting out have the better idea. I work for the same reason everyone works, it's preferable to the alternative.

The rest of what you write is common sense.

It's obvious the welfare state has been a complete failure and should be done away with, wouldn't you agree?

ObamaCare's Plans Are Worse (WSJ)

How the Affordable Care Act raises prices and limits medical choices.

Even as President Obama reluctantly granted Americans thrown off their health plans quasi-permission to possibly keep them, he called them "the folks who, over time, I think, are going to find that the marketplaces are better." He means the ObamaCare exchanges that are replacing the private insurance market, adding that "it's important that we don't pretend that somehow that's a place worth going back to."

Easy for him to say. The reason this furor will continue even if the website is fixed is that the public is learning that ObamaCare's insurance costs more in return for worse coverage.

You are correct, she says she only pays 50 bucks a month for rent.

Plus she said her husband does not work and gets family benefits also. I am assuming that means he claims the kids and gets even more money but I dont really know what family benefits means. I cant find any chart that shows the breakdown of benefits paid in TX. But here is a report from CATO that says the average single person makes just above 18k a year in TX including all benefits. So I assume (again making an assumption) that she claims single and the father claims the children.

Plus they work a bit on the side for cash

Plus they probably get a large refund from taxes each year. Not only does she probably get a nice refund, she also pays no taxes on her benefits

Plus she only mentioned a few programs, her net is far higher (she did not mention things like Child Care, Healthcare, Cash/ TANF or the multitude of other benefits available)

My mom's other friend is a svelte Asian beauty who is looking for a husband and who wants to get to know you RIGHT NOW.

this is SOP in most large cities.  the free shit army is too good for the bus, so they're entitled to free car service, too.  there can't be any 'discrimination' against freeloaders in the age of political correctness.

Why is productivity and work so important?  Ayn Rand said it best: " Man defines the meaning of his life by his work."  And like so much else, she was spot on.  Living like a parasite is not living.  I have more respect for most single cell microbes than this woman.

That was exactly what happened, roughly two years ago:  the time limit on the receipt of "welfare" (AFDC, I believe, in particular) were set up so that Congress could act to extend the time limit, create exceptions etc.  The current US administratation "deemed" that when the law said such exceptions/extensions were possible that it really meant that the Executive branch had the power to make such exceptions, as it faithfully carried out the law of the land.

In other words, the time limits were effectively gutted, though some minor degree of jumping-through-hoops is now required to meet the purported requirements of the law.

You also get housing vouchers, food vouchers.  Free medicine/doctors.  Likely free or highly discounted public transportation.

Additional benefits can be had by having the grandparents on the dole too and living with you.  Now 1250 becomes 5-6k per month of value, easy.

Working at Walmart nets $1200 per month.  But since you have a job you do not get all those other perks.  Additionally you now have to figure out what to do with the kids while you are at work.  Easier to just do nothing when you get paid more to do it.

I often wonder:  what is the half-life of a cashier at Walmart?  That is, how long does someone have to work there before they conclude that they are better off on the other side of the register?  If you see the human driftwood that most Walmart customers are these daze, as well as the abuse most minimum wage cashiers take from these parasites, you really wonder how long it takes for someone to say:  'Fuck this shit, I'm going on disability and sponge off the State too".  My guess is 6 months, tops.

Yes, but they don't know any other way.  Let's do the math, Johnson's "great society" came of age between 1968 and 1973.  Then the "oil shock" came,  and the kids had to wait in line to get gas- that had never happened before.  Their parents had to wait in line, too, but believed it was because of the Arab Embargo.

Wait, you say; There really wasn't an Arab Embargo, they just adjusted their prices to reflect the fact that US production fell off a cliff?

What did we do?  WE started bombing (now droning) the fuck out of anyone and everyone who lived in an oil rich region, or anyone who might represent a threat to same.

The Saudi's know they are next.  I have no love for this regime, but I respect the people.

All the while, the multi nationals kept getting bigger, and more dangerous.

Today,  Johnson's Great Society kids mostly work for .gov or are quite literally wards of the state.

Any society that sits on its ass and expects to be fed... is like my wife's dog.  He's cute and all, but that's all he has to offer.

The dog, being worthless, has more value to me, than my government.
