The Other America: "Taxpayers Are The Fools... Working Is Stupid"

Tyler Durden's picture

While what little remains of America's middle class is happy and eager to put in its 9-to-5 each-and-every day, an increasing number of Americans - those record 91.5 million who are no longer part of the labor force - are perfectly happy to benefit from the ever more generous hand outs of the welfare state. Prepare yourself before listening to this... calling on her self-admitted Obamaphone, Texas welfare recipient Lucy, 32, explains why "taxpayers are the fools"...

"...To all you workers out there preaching morality about those of us who live on welfare... can you really blame us? I get to sit around all day, visit my friends, smoke weed.. and we are still gonna get paid, on time every month..."

She intends to stay on welfare her entire life, if possible, just like her parents (and expects her kids to do the same). As we vociferously concluded previously, the tragedy of America's welfare state is that work is punished.

(h/t Mish)

As we noted previously,

As quantitied, and explained by Alexander, "the single mom is better off earnings gross income of $29,000 with $57,327 in net income & benefits than to earn gross income of $69,000 with net income and benefits of $57,045."

We realize that this is a painful topic in a country in which the issue of welfare benefits, and cutting (or not) the spending side of the fiscal cliff, have become the two most sensitive social topics. Alas, none of that changes the matrix of incentives for most Americans who find themselves in a comparable situation: either being on the left side of minimum US wage, and relying on benefits, or move to the right side at far greater personal investment of work, and energy, and... have the same disposable income at the end of the day.

Can't the same be said for those that work their balls off?

Not to stick up for Lucy here one bit...but looking at it pragmatically; when a "system" (pick one...any one) is designed to play you - there are some who'll try to play it.

Why is it that no one considers that this so-called welfare person might be fictional?

Because we see her every day. We don't have to believe that the caller is real - all we have to do is open our eyes and believe what we see.

Denial of reality and sticking your head in the sand will not be a quality that furthers your survival when the wheels finally come off.

agree.  Every day going to work I drive by a tent city filled with about 60 people (at least 40 to 50 tents).  I don't believe for a second that any of them are getting $1250/mth in welfare payments so the question is why are some people getting welfare checks somewhere and some 60 people living in a tent city NOT getting those checks.... I am quite certain those tent people don't like the heating in their tents (none) and it is getting damned cold out.

They aren't being mollified, they're being FED. When the checks eventually stop, as they one day inveritably will, THEN what will they do?

Answer: They will riot and be shot in the street. I think we've seen this before in 1920's Germany. What we haven't seen before is what happens when a worldwide fiat experiment blows up.

What's lacking from this wretched featherless biped is any shame or guilt.  She keeps saying, "If someone gave you $1,000,000, wouldn't you take it?!"  Like that stupid statement is supposed to mollify her weakness and sloth.  What I would have said in response is, "If that $1,000,000 was being given to me at the expense of someone else, then NO! I wouldn't take it!"  If someone is totally down and out and starving on the streets, then yes, there should be some alms given them to sustain them another day.  But, when this charity becomes institutionalized by the state, the ineviable outcome is what we are witnessing today.  People who receive any kind of largess from the taxpayers should be stripped of their voting rights.  This would go a long way in restraining the soulless politicians who set up these despicable programs and pander for the neer-do-well vote.

I rated this blog post poor, because they don't have a rating for TD sucks big time!

Obviously, if a gov't, owned by Wall Street, not only ALLOWS, but gives tax breaks (as in reduction of the people's tax base) to vile corporations for offshoring American jobs, then WTF does any sane person expect?

(Sorry, forgot I was talking about that Bulgarian TD here!)

Having just finished <i>The Billionaire's Apprentice</i>, over all a most mediocre book by a WSJ Punjabi journalist, it does have one page of redeeming value:

p. 139

Where she describes how Gupta (they are always named Gupta, 'natch) stripped the GDPs of the USA and Germany to ascertain what jobs could be offshored (done at their McKinsey India office, of course).

Any further questions, douchey TD?

The elites have bought the politicians so they get their corporate welfare.  What's left to dole out is doled out by misguided Liberals who still rightfully see the injustice in the system to the common man and common worker.  But their solution is only hastening the collapse.

I am one of the Libertarian "fucktards".

Let me tell you what an idiot you are DumboTron. You spout all your pseudo-socialist "get even with everyone I hate" low brow stupidity.

If you have a government strong enough, mean enough and powerful enough to "break up EVERY SINGLE MULTI-NATIONAL CORPORATION in this country. TAX THE FUCK OUT OF THEM UNTIL THEY BRING JOBS HOME. FEDERALIZE EVERY BANK AND FIRE AND JAIL EVERY SINGLE MOTHERFUCKING BANKER CEO.....THAT MEAN BLANKFEIN, DIMON....the whole FUCKING LOT !? They will turn on you dumbass. There are two routes this government takes historically speaking. Option one is they make friends witht the people you hate and some like you goes to jail. Why? Because the Dimons and Sachs and even Union leaders of the world can do more for the leader/s than you, loser. Option two is they become typical communist type dictators and everyone is poor and they still become the ruling class similar to N. Korea, Stalinist Russia and a dozen other "People's" countries. You can congratulate yourself as you bring on the economic and social blight in your starched new comrade uniform as you guard your neighbors picking sugar cane.

Government is alway for itself...always. The point of power is power and it is exercised and demonstrated through favors and then doling out life and death. It makes men similar to gods. It is its own end.

Stupid leftist "tards" like you get fooled or led lemming-like into empowering the next dictator who will promise to get even with all the people you have been trained to hate. You are in a word a "tool" or even a "useful idiot" to quote Stalin. Yeah, you, DumboTron.

The answer is to disempower government. Government created Feds, 50,000 page tax codes, bankrupt retirement systems, preferential pay for public workers, your seat belt and big Gulp laws, tax breaks, welfare queens, farm subsidies, undeclared wars and on and on. Any you...in your vast angry genius want to give them more power. Good luck with that Mr. MENSA.

The system will crash itself because it is based on lies, corruption and bad economics, all of which you actually buy into.

I am tired of noisy unthinking easily manipulated dimwits like you.

I will hang with the libertarian fucktards because they are bright, at least bright enough to be skeptical of power and the promises of the powerful. You might notice no libertarians are advocating, supporting or governing any of the things you claim to hate.

LOL !!!    ROTFLMFAO !!!

Nothing quite as useless as a Fucktard Libertarian with his/her Utopian visions (fantasies) of liberty and freedom in a world that has always been and will always be in one form or the other a Feudalistic Serfdom.

And for those of you who are Libertarian AND Christian........you should REALLY know better.  The world and everyone in it  are tainted before birth with sin.  There can NEVER be freedom and liberty in this world until the Second Coming.

Stop fantasizing and playing God by going out and shouting about Ron Paul, or the Constitution or freedom or liberty or limited government and all that silly, secular, political bullshit.

You really want a new birth of freedom in the land and the world at large.  Change men's hearts with the Gospel.  Otherwise.....you're just masturbating in a hurricane of human Tyranny......the way it always has been and will always be until the End.

Sun, 12/01/2013 - 14:03 | 4203469 Jumbotron
Jumbotron's picture

And another thing.....silly fucktard Libertarian.  There can NEVER be true freedom and liberty without JUSTICE.

So when Bankers do not go to jail and have EVERY LAST DIME confiscated from their accounts and their families left destitute in the streets.....when Judges don't go to jail for life for not upholding the law.....when Politcians don't get the death penalty for violating the Constitution......it breeds the very INJUSTICE that other systems such as Socialism proclaims to solve.

What a silly simpleton you are.  Just because I correctly call bullshit on Libertarianism as a viable solution to Tyranny and/or Socialism does not mean I am a Socialist.......but thanks for proving my point that you Libertarians are fucktards.    With reasoning  skills such as you displayed you guys will continue to get nowhere.

Oh....and please.....don't ask me what my solution is.  I don't have any because there is none.  Except for Christ.   Accept it or suck it.   I don't care.   But the truth will out whether you believe or not.  All you have to do is open your fucking eyes and have a look across history until today.

IF Liberty was SOOOoooooo  GREAT, then why haven't the vast majority of people.....who know intuitively in their hearts that Liberty is great.........accepted that fact and fight and even die for it.  Better yet.....and this is SOOooo true for us.......why once they fight and die for it can they ever keep it.

Answer.....because we can't......because it's not in our nature and it is not the order of the universe we inherited after the FALL of mankind.  Suck it.    That's the way it is.

There is an answer and you know where it is and you are smart enough to read it and accept it.  It's not my job to molly coddle you.  Grow up junior and accept the facts and do the only thing that matters in the end.

Otherwise.....shut the fuck up.....your bitching and everybody's elses bitching is less than worthless.  And so is your belief in a secular Freedom.

Dumbotron, you contradict yourself so many times it would take volumes. By your reasoning don't bother struggling for good until Jesus returns because human nature is fallen and it is impossible. Perhaps you would have been there to advise the founding fathers on the uselessness of their efforts to make something better and throw off monarchies. Perhaps you would have been there at the Magna Carta saying what a waste of time that was. Maybe you reject the concept of "Nobless Oblige" which was a counter to raw autocracy in the European Middle Ages. What's the point, right?

You ask dumb questions about liberty that you half answer for yourself. The simple answers fall into two categories, people sell out their own liberty for lies and liberty is denied by those in power who have other plans for the serfs. Liberty is it's own end on the right like power is it's own end on the left, dipshit. One day you might figure it out and realize you empower that which you claim to hate. You are a sort of Robespierre who simply ushers in a new level of autocracy and crowns a new emperor.

I am a former soldier and I have been around the world and seen autocracy firsthand, moron. The day you try to shut me up is your last. I am almost undoubtedly older than you, junior twit. You are the one writing in all caps in a rambling manic rant swearing and invoking Jesus. You admit you have no solutions so perhaps you should take a dose of your own silence. If you have no solutions then follow somoene who does or get the hell out of the way.

I will stick with the libertarians and those inclined to those positions. It is the very same principles which founded the USA dumbass. I will ally wiith an atheist libertarian gay person before I ally with some religious leftist heterosexual autocrat. I know the libertarian has no designs for my life or anyone else unlike his opposite.

Your theology sucks. Your ideology is a trashpile of hate at things you don't understand. All you feast on is unguided anger that is very useful to the people you supposedly want "justice" for. Now go take your psych meds and watch Nickelodean.

"Misdirection plant by the corporate welfare"

Knee-jerk reply by socialists united.

"... - those record 91.5 million who are no longer part of the labor force"

Don't foget to include the 22MM government employees - most of whom don't contribute a fucking thing to the country.r

2012 average compensation of a federal employee?  $123,049 per year.   http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/money/economy/income/2010-08-10-1Afedpay10_ST_N.htm

And the absolute horror stories about the indoctrination racket.  This one example from the Las Vegas Teachers Union is repeated nationwide in hundreds of cities:

The Teachers Union Executive Director received $632,546, while the CEO of the union-created Teachers Health Trust was paid $546,133.  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/education/leaders-clark-county-teachers-union-see-big-jump-pay

In 2011 more than 77,000 federal workers "earned" a salary higher than the governors of their states.  Salary; not total compensation.  When you add in the benefits racket, Joe Taxpayer is on the hook for millions per retired employee who far too often are permitted to cash in several months of sick pay and vacation pay to inflate the salary in their final year and thus inflate their pensions.

They get regular pay raises and increases in vacation and noncontributory retirement similar to the military with no hazards, of course. They make more than Family Practice doctors with little stress and regular hours. It is obscene and they will not tell you what they make.

This is what happens with a large public sector divorced from the reality of the private sector and insulated from the consequences of meddling idiotic politicians.

They have probably really broken the healthcare system without knowing it. They cannot undo what they have done because of the fore-planning and costing of insurances. We may see thier gross ignorance in full display. This is like letting plumbers do brain surgery.

I applaud your relatives.  They are living the life that we all should had we not given the reigns of political and economic power over to the Captains of Industry who worship at the alter of Global Wage Arbitrage.

The private sector is divorced from reality.  The reality is.....once a developed country's economy overshoots it's natural resources and growth paradigm then the economy must peak, plateau and then fall back to equilibrium.  Sorry.....an infinite growth economy does not exist.  And never will.

But....these psychopathic CEO's with their politician whores in the state house and the White House think that if they could just take advantage of slave labor oversees and place where there are no envrironmental laws worth a shit.......then they CAN break the rules of nature and economic thermodynamics.

If we had learned to live within our means and managed our decline.....as ALL civilizations do......then we would be living more decent and meaningful lives.  But because of the FAT CATS of Wall Street and the CEO's of Multi-Nationals who could no give less of a fuck about America, not to mention there whores in office they control........we are left with scraps .....and you bitching about your relatives.

They are the wrong target my friend.  Look in the mirror.  You're the enemy....by not doing anything about it.  But that's OK.....nobody could or can.  It's not like you or anyone else can defeat human nature.  1,000,000,000 years later.....and all we are are greedy little fucking monkies in suits and ties and holding up our copy of the Constitution.....as if that meant anything in the past.......certainly doesn't mean shit now.

Common misnomer, Texas does not need to secede from the US as it never ceded it's territories to the US. In fact, Texas tried to secede in 1846 and the US Federal court ruled that Texas could not secede due to this reason. So in other words, the US does not hold sovereignty over the lands in the Republic of Texas. The only land the US government controls in Texas were purchased. We are considering digging a moat around the state and charging admission though as we keeping getting rabble from failing states like California.

1846? I guess. Then roll the clock forward to 1860-61 to the Civil War. You remember... the one that started when 11 southern states - including Texas - SECEDED.

"...So in other words, the US does not hold sovereignty over the lands in the Republic of Texas..."

Really? Did they ever teach you how the Civil War ended?

"...The only land the US government controls in Texas were purchased..."

Texas simply declared itself a nation in 1836 and elected a president. They never 'won' their independence from Mexico in a war or through any treaty. If a few nut-jobs in Quebec declared it was an independent nation today, it wouldn't give the U.S. any rights to allow it to the union or annex it as a 51st state. The Canadians wouldn't like that and it would violate their laws, just like Texas violated Mexico's laws.

Unfortuantely, the deadbeats running Texas also managed to swindle $10M from U.S. taxpayers at the same time in 1845 by insisting that Texas debt be transferred TO the U.S. I'm sure the 1846 sucession didn't include any terms to take their damn $10M in debt back. Thanks, Texas.

To your point, though: the U.S. really doesn't control anything in Texas... because it's Mexican soverign territory legally stolen from the original inhabitants.

Besides, Texans are generally uncontrollable. I'm liking the moat idea.

Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo & Co. and Citigroup, now control a combined $3.511 trillion in domestic deposits, a stunning 58.8 percent of all 6,940 U.S. banks’ domestic deposits of $5.966 trillion. The market share of these four giants has increased by an astonishing 24 percent in just 4 years.

In a democracy, the status quo needs the votes of the Lucy's of the world.  Our politicians have two faces...  one that faces the poor (to obtain the raw votes required to get elected), and the other faces the plutocrats (to line their own pockets).  I do think the left is more corrupt than the right, but it is ultimately democracy itself that is the culprit.

Explained by 19th century legal philosopher Frederic Bastiat:

http://bastiat.org/en/the_law.html

Man can live and satisfy his wants only by ceaseless labor; by the ceaseless application of his faculties to natural resources. This process is the origin of property.

But it is also true that a man m.ay live and satisfy his wants by seizing and consuming the products of the labor of others. This process is the origin of plunder.

Now since man is naturally inclined to avoid pain — and since labor is pain in itself — it follows that men will resort to plunder whenever plunder is easier than work.

This question of legal plunder must be settled once and for all, and there are only three ways to settle it:

  1. The few plunder the many.
  2. Everybody plunders everybody.
  3. Nobody plunders anybody.

Last night I watched the 1965 Dr Zhivago With some friends.  An 11 boy was disturbed by the scene where Zhivago comes back from the war and his house is full of proletarian occupiers led by a committee chairs.  "How can they just take all his stuff?". Because they are communists and communists don't believe in private property.  But secretly they do, they just don't have enough of it.  They don't believe in your right to your property and they want it to be theirs;  hiding behind collective justification is individual greed.  They believe communism will give them more but it gives everyone nothing because whatever you get is only yours until the committee takes it away. What is political freedom without property rights? If you don't own the food on your plate, your life itself is subject, and you are subjected.

Burticus! My very favortie Bastiat quotation from "The Law"! I have it on my laptop. It goes on to say how the law becomes the province of a favored class of men rather than a means of justice over time and in fact legalizes the plunder. It could have been written today.

3. Is the essence of capitalism or as I like to call it "voluntary exchange". In a no-plunder system, you own yourself, your labor and coercion is removed from society.

I also believe on a near spiritual level that people who believe in freedom and and liberty do live peaceably with each other and government is at a minimus.

Nice post.

I do not believe that the Republican party is inested in victimology. However, they may pay lipservice to it which means they end up fighting on the Democrats' political ground. Conservatism tends toward self reliance as one of it's pillars. Victimoloy is a tactic of the Left. Victims need a powerful government to set things right against those "other" bad guys. So, leftists promise a utopian world where nothing bad happens with enough rules, rulers, taxes, money, and power. So, people sell out their liberty for a false promise.

I do believe in entrenched power by both parties, however and there we may see eye to eye.

You actually pose an interesting question. The FSA allows the government to steal for them what many (not all) would steal themselves. So, if the SHTF and the stuff stops coming, many will take to the streets and cut out the government middle man. They will take your stuff directly. Many of them actually have no useable job skills or character makeup to function in a civil society.

The passive ones will go home to live in the basement, become functional or assume room temperature as one poster posits.

Your "B" is especially interesting because the Left actually asserts that redistribution is justice or at the very very least a mandatory form of charity...and therefore, moral.

Don't worry Inthemix 96 Gideon is about to sort out Wonga in the upcoming Budget Statement when he'll cap their interest rates to a maximum of only 3,500% APR.

How they'll continue I don't know, the poor hedge fund managers, The Church of England and other shareholders must be terrified of the potential 1% cut in profits coming their way.

All the hate for the lowest on the scale in society is a terrible indictment of the awareness of the way this world works really.

When the trillions of dollars were doled out in 2008 and when the billions of dollars keep roling in every month for the worldwide financial system barely a word is uttered. That class receive their welfare and use it to buy penthouses in Manhattan and London or maybe another Lucian Freud for the toilet. Meanwhile a person who plays the system to eat is targetted as the true menace to society.

I thought Wonga was a joke.  How is that usury legal?

I know Russian mobsters that charge better rates, & are friendly...as long as U pay them back on time.

The same way that the usury from the Feral Reserve, et. al., is legal. It's a big club, and we ain't in it.

I look at it this way, a million Lucy's taking a $1250 a month for nothing is no different than 1250 Banksters taking $1,000,000 a month for nothing.  It's all equal, they are all scumbags. Neither could survive without the other.   Up all their noses with rubber truncheons.

When the moral relativism preaching Alinsky acolytes have popular culture, popular media, and speech restrictions in their back pocket, there seems to be little hope other than to ride the bumpy road. There is no shame for assistance when you have a spectacularly entrenched progressive bureaucracy at all levels of government and non-profit soliciting services. You are celebrated for your poor life choices and encouraged to make even more bad choices by those handout givers whose job depends on your participation. The progressive agenda is unchecked by meek and neutered folks calling themsleves conservatives. Will a version of history look back and pronounce the bloodless civil war and constitutional crisis beginning date somewhere in the middle of this century's first two decades? It will, of course, take decades to undo the failed policies of big government liberalism and restore E Plurbis Unum at home and abroad. And it will only start when a true alternative to the two party system is challenged on a widespread basis. How that alternative comes about is of great consequence and will wash over the takers of this society. And it seems that is exactly what the divisive forces at work aim to provoke through policies and practices such as the one described.

Will anyone be able to comprehend and actively support the alternatives or solutions as the current system breaks down? I think that may be the next battle. History says it is likely that people will simply choose another "strong man" to save them and end up the worse for it.

I have something radicle. Why not reduce taxation, give people a real incentive to work.

As for that woman Lucy I can see her logic, she is only doing what Wall Street is doing.

The only thing 'radicle" is how you spelled radical.  If you have to give someone an incentive to work and pull his or her own weight, they weren't raised properly and it's a lost cause.

We have a system that says "If you want to live, you must have money. If you don't already have money, you must work to make money." But there are far fewer jobs than available workers, so now what do we do? Tell those people to find a nice hole to crawl into and die quietly so that the rest of us don't have to be bothered by their misery?

The real problem is that the vast majority of the wealth of the nation has been hyper-concentrated into very few hands, and they are not spending it, so the net effect is the impovershment of the rest of the nation. This is an inherently unstable situation that will eventually be resolved one way or another.

The ultimate welfare queens.  They are born into a life of wealth and feel every bit as entitled to it as the woman in this story.  Where is the outrage?  Of course the brilliance of the oligarchs is that they convince the people that the "solution" to a system of poverty for most and wealth for a few, is to have more poverty.  They keep the systems in place that support the woman in this story to keep social order, while the worker bees grumble but do nothing.  The real solution is to end oligarch rule over us, then we can clean up the small-time takers like the subject of this story.

We need to introduce some excitement in the poor folks lives. Let's pay the food stamps on a random date once every two months.  Paying a random amount on random dates would be even better.
