While what little remains of America's middle class is happy and eager to put in its 9-to-5 each-and-every day, an increasing number of Americans - those record 91.5 million who are no longer part of the labor force - are perfectly happy to benefit from the ever more generous hand outs of the welfare state. Prepare yourself before listening to this... calling on her self-admitted Obamaphone, Texas welfare recipient Lucy, 32, explains why "taxpayers are the fools"...
"...To all you workers out there preaching morality about those of us who live on welfare... can you really blame us? I get to sit around all day, visit my friends, smoke weed.. and we are still gonna get paid, on time every month..."
She intends to stay on welfare her entire life, if possible, just like her parents (and expects her kids to do the same). As we vociferously concluded previously, the tragedy of America's welfare state is that work is punished.

We realize that this is a painful topic in a country in which the issue of welfare benefits, and cutting (or not) the spending side of the fiscal cliff, have become the two most sensitive social topics. Alas, none of that changes the matrix of incentives for most Americans who find themselves in a comparable situation: either being on the left side of minimum US wage, and relying on benefits, or move to the right side at far greater personal investment of work, and energy, and... have the same disposable income at the end of the day.

These radio call in folks are fake. I did it a couple times for Mancow. They write a narrative and the actor follows the script with some imbellishments.

Whether this case is true or not, this type of attitude does exist. It saddens me because in some sense work isn't even all that hard. Work certainly can be demanding, annoying, frustrating... Most of the time it is worth it whether through gaining experience or gaining a good story. Now I wonder... How are people's views shaped by the raping & pillaging government stealing earned money. You're almost right. 'Most" are not, in fact, white, middle aged males. Globalization has caught the entire working class in its net. If you go outside the borders of USA and Canada, it becomes clear very fast that 'white' means very little in terms of proportion. White middle aged males, along with their middle-aged counterparts in all the other races, are the very ones who created globalization, so we are presently reaping the benfits of karma. We are being eaten by the machine we created, because in our greed and euphoric inventiveness, we simply forbade the question, "But is it a good idea?"
We live in a time similar to the Wild West. Just as it took time, murder and mayhem to bring the rule of law to the territories west of the Mississippi, its going to take time to do the same thing across the global playing field. The danger to us, Lucy and everyone else - the 1% included- is that nobody had nukes in the old days, and kids weren't raised in day care centers. They didn't grow up watching violent films and playing violent video games. They weren't sexualized by the time they were six. If you wanted to eat, you had to work. You had to have a clue about growing things, hunting and raising livestock. You had to be able to kill, clean and cook your catch. Food preservation was an almost ubiquitous skill.
The generation running this show are skilled at punching buttons. Thats about it. As for job prospects, I have little sympathy for the out-of-work. Create your own. Get into your shop and make something to sell. Get a skill that doesn't involve keyboards and electronic screens. I lost my business, my boat (damn, how AM I gonna find my gold?), and spent three years fighting the bank for my house. While that was going on, I fed my family, put one of them through school (now gainfully employed making more money than I have in twenty years), and kept the thieves off my property. I did this without asking for one fucking dime from the government. What makes me so special? Not one damned thing. I'm a liberal Jewish Anglo Saxon protestant. I have the blood of the Irish, Scottish, French, German, Romanian, African and English in my veins - because I'm a Southerner. All that shit means not one thing. The grey matter between my ears, coupled with opposable thumbs, is the one reason that I and mine were able to survive. I'm pretty sure that even Lucy and the Conservatives have the same advantages.

Adding that, i would expect the a single mother making $29,000 would be comparible to much more than $70,000. Sad thing is, I am the sole provider for my family. I make $70,000 to provide for them.
