Where Europe's Million-Earning Bankers Can Be Found

Tyler Durden's picture

The chart below showing where Europe's wealthiest earning bankers can be found should come as no surprise.

... Especially to those who recall this chart from a few years back.

And some commentary from Bloomberg:

The number of bankers in the European Union who earned at least 1 million euros a year rose 11 percent in 2012, the EBA says, as bonuses exceeded caps set to take effect next year. The U.K. accounted for 77 percent of the 3,529 bankers paid at least a million, while Germany and France accounted for 6 percent and 5 percent, respectively.

As for the US, well that's what the Fed's wealth effect is for.

Is the City of London really part of the UK though?

Like saying the Vatican is part of Italy.

Its just more obvious at the Vatican as their cops are still wearing 400 year old fashion.

When you are in London and you see the red and white checkerboard appear on the cops, you know,....

THE RULES DON"T APPLY HERE!

the Vatican is defined by the Lateran Treaty. The City has no treaty and pre-dates legislation. It could be brought to heel if someone wanted but it exists just like the Camorra and other Mafiosi because politicians choose to let it

But instead, "The City" brings the whole country to heel.

You have it a bit ass backwards.

You don't need a treaty when you already own and control everything.

So the bankers are British ethnically and culturally, and Christian, in the religious sense? Because I could have sworn...  That these bankers merely live and work in Britain (and have for hundreds of years).

I guess my question is, are they 'UK bankers' or is there another term (that will get you deemed anti-semitic) that is more fitting?

Er...I'm shocked?  I've walked past Liverpool St., then more recently Canary Wharf most of my working life and London has been the financial capital of Europe (before that, the world) for a couple of centuries.  Dishonesty,  fraud, conflicts of interest,  schemes behind schemes,  shadowy (frankly absurd) clubs and organisations that have the facade of respectability, as well as those poor souls that still hold a candle of hope that they are in an honorable profession. - they are all part and parcel of the City.

We have a Goldman alumni as the governor of the Bank of England.  That's all you need to know about how fucked we are as a nation.

"...the people of the UK have been eating buckets of shit for years"

Correct. Hundreds of years in fact.

We have never had a proper system of accountable democracy that is worthy of the name (it's often been called an "elected dictatorship"), and we've never had a proper written Constitution.

All of that would be tolerable if those who get into power had a clue what they were doing and weren't corrupt to the core.

But... You've got 'the Royals'!  Who understand that perception is all that matters, and as a result, they take part in as many elaborate rituals, marches, procedures, photo ops, possible.  I saw a soccer game on TV this weekend, where they showed 'Prince' William, where they swore he was a 'staunch Aston Villa supporter', because 'he's got both the jacket and the scarf.'

Oh me, oh my.

Indeed. It's easy to understand why the Left in Britain have never wanted any change because they are deeply committed to "total government" and any sort of Constitutional Republic would be anathema to them.

But we also find that the phony Right in Britain (Conservatives) don't want any such thing either.

Truth is, we have two socialist parties, the Left cheek and the Right cheek, with the LibDems groping around somewhere in between.

The article simply reminds us that lendng money to each other cannot make us rich.

It is true that the City of London retained it's independence from the crown in the Magna Carta. Cities are old. Very old. Nation states are merely a hypothesis in comparison.

The City of London regards other people as a different species.

Most bankers are happy for the rest of humanity to be battery farmed. But there are some who think people should be free range; you know, a certain amount of natural light every day, some kind of density limit, etc. etc.

There is a wonderful children's book called Mortal Engines, in which London, about 3000 years from now, has dragged itself onto huge rolling tracks and marauds around Europe devouring defenseless suburbs. Municipal Darwinism...

Bankers deal in Debt and call it Assets. Britain fought two World Wars on credit and turned the world's largest Creditor Nation into a Debt Junkie which gave Bankers power as Gilts Management gave them a hold over Government.

Once Thatcher ended Exchange Controls in 1979 they could resume importing Liabilities onto the UK balance sheet and booking the Revenues into tax havens. The City of London ran its Shadow Banking System so as to park liability in the visible banking system and hide the rest offshore.

Britain built The City on financing Government Wars and funding ventures like the East India Company, the Rhodesia Company, and lending the pennies of Widows and Orphans through Investment Trusts into South American Railway Bonds and Tsarist Russian Bonds for 3% coupon.

The fact that Britain has a miserable rate of GFCF (investment) is no worry to The City which cares only for Rentier Income and not Production.

The Conservative Party is The CIty in Parliament and Blair saw that he would only win elections by kow-towing to The City and putting on face-paint to entertain Sucker Voters.....it worked brilliantly and when Brown blew it all up he saved the Bankers to suck the lifeblood out of the Voters

The UK. The City of London. where no taxes are paid.

Where the Central Bankers bend over and the Fed Chairman gives it up their rear end, while they smile, pocketing huge paychecks. The old system of currency backed by Gold/Silver now SDR's have Robbed Savers.

My thoughts are that Capital Punishment should be brought back in, and let the world purge this Economic Catastrophe.

The IMF as well. They cause poverty, and want control. Lets give it to them , control to keep a rope straight down.
