Pilger nails it more than any other journalist I have read on Mandela. Regardless of whether you agree with his beliefs Mandela did spend decades in prison because of them. And yes he did advocate violence as a way of over throwing a brutal non-reprensentative government ... until he didn't. As Pilger points out, Mandela did a deal with TPTB - going back on one promise to nationalize the banks - and at the same time began preaching non-violence and reconciliation. And lo and behold, he was no longer considered a "terrorist" by those wonderful peaceful paragons of virtue - the US and UK governments.
Ever wonder why all those individuals the mainstream media tells us we should admire - ghandi, mandela, jesus - are those who preach non-violence, forgiveness and peace? Think about it.
