Thursday Humor: Obama "Fixes" The Economy

Tyler Durden's picture

As the President loses his Millennial voting base, despite "fixing" Obamacare, his populist push for a raise to the minimum wage (who wouldn't want more money than 'market rates' for doing the same shit) and class-warfare-inspiring inequality speech may be his party's last best hope. However, in the meantime, if US citizens can tear themselves away from X-Factor for 30 seconds, the following clear concise chart shows how easy it is to create 140,000 jobs... Our question... why not raise the minimum wage to $100?

And in case you were unclear why this doesn't work... (as we discussed here and here):

The minimum wage sounds nice on the surface: workers earning $8 per hour would certainly be better off if they were earning $12 per hour instead. But economics professor Antony Davies explains that this view of the minimum wage overlooks an important detail: The minimum wage does not force employers to pay a particular wage to every worker; it forces employers to pay a particular wage to every worker they choose to keep. While the minimum wage may be well-intentioned public policy, it often huts the very workers most in need of our help.

Here's how all of this would turn out with the minimum wage hike.......

"If you like your minimum wage job, you can keep your minimum wage job."

But no worries, there would be an apology to all those who lost their jobs saying there was a misunderstanding with the statement above while and all would be well again.

Another Black Friday has passed, and still no one in D.C. has suggested my idea for boosting the economy...

Just officially move Black Friday to the first Friday of the year...

That way all those retailers would be "in the black" pretty much from the get go each year...

I'd bet dollars to donuts that that would give the economy quite a jolt.

(I can only hope Obama actually suggests this during one of his daily televised speeches.)

The minimum wage is not $7.25 the minimum wage is $0.00 always has been, always will be.

If you increase the legal "minimum wage" from $7.25 to $10.10 then 72% of workers will be moved from $7.25 to $10.10 and 28% of workers will be moved from $7.25 to $0.00 and the net change change in payroll is zero.

Also, add in the structural effect that the 0's had no cross-trade skills yet beyond clerking/stocking/waiting. Therefore it only compounds the discontent. Shit, all this was tried in the 1970's when the min. wage was established & raised in europe. Look how that turned out.

OT, but since we're talking about the President..... MORE lies from the White House:

"The White House acknowledged Thursday that President Barack Obama lived briefly years ago with a Kenyan uncle previously targeted for deportation — after initially insisting there was no evidence they had ever met."

Yeah, the one they said was an of "upstanding moral character" at his DUI hearing.  Never met him.  Never heard of him.  Oh, sorry, I forgot that I lived with the guy in Kenya.

Now they're insisting the WH had no involvement in his battle to avoid deportation (which he won earlier this week, against all odds).  Tell me another one, Barry.  You fucking sociopathic liar.

This is more magical thinking. We magically create 160,000 jobs out of thin air if we raise the minimum wage. The only question I have left is did Obama tack his campaign onto the strikes today [as he did with OWS] or did he have a hand in leading them?

Edit: I'm in neutral territory with the fast food strike because I rarely eat in one. If we go out its to a restaurant, locally owned, with great service and good food.

Or just pay your people in cash, which for most employees is a 30% pay raise.

In my mind, if low wage workers want more take-home pay, they should be lobbying the government to get out of their lives (rather than becoming more dependent), scale the government down to size, and be taxed less.

The market forces of a truly free market is not the problem, .gov (and everyone in it) is the problem.

Why should I open a business and hire employees in the United States? Do you think that I cannot offshore my wealth? Do you think that I will be forced to invest in the United States?

I have opted out of the United States financially. I spend as little as possible here and live quite frugal and comfortable. I will not buy a new car. I pay as little for food as possible. I do not buy anything. I pay for an electric bill, minor rent, and a cell phone bill. That is how I have internet.

I have divorced myself from the Corporate Model as much as possible. As I have NO INCOME then there is nothing to tax. I have more than enough instruments that are not tied to the US Dollar but can be sold if I need Dollars to support my meager lifestyle. Many others, WITH THE MONEY, are doing as I am doing. We know what it is like to work, sacrifice, be prudent and save.

You are not entitled to my wealth. The reason why we are doing it is because of the narcissistic, entitlement attitude of people as yourself.

Do you know how to make Grenades? I do.

Can you Rocket Propel Grenades? I can.

The "minimum wage" debate is just a distraction.  If our money was not losing value every day/month/year, they would not have to trot this straw man out.

I once told a man I would work for him for a dollar an hour.  He started to get extremely excited.  Than I told him that "that dollar had to be a silver dollar".  He turned and walked away.

The problem is that our dollar is not stable (remember the Fed's inflation target 2%, but that is really 10%).  The dollar is defined in the law of the land, the constitution, for a reason, to consist of a specific amount of gold or silver.  When they (the PTB bankers) decided that this was too onerous, they redefined it into paper and ink.

That is the problem.

Doesn't anyone look at history anymore?

Every-time they raise the minimum wage, a huge number of minimum wage earners are laid off or not hired in the first place, due to this policy change, in my opinion.

These people who support minimum wage increases appear to be waging a "war on workers" in my hopefully-humble opinion.

Over time, our firm has hired many college students, part time, and we have paid them all substantially more than minimum wages for their high-quality work.  But, many firms have no choice and have to hire less-skilled workers, apparently.  How do these workers ever obtain the skills to make even moar than minimum wages if no one is allowed to hire them when they have not yet done so?

Has everyone already forgotten how the costs of labor really work?

Doesn't that just increase the disparities of wealth and income, every time [and, presumably, cronyism too?]?

If more minimum-wage-earners are laid off, doesn't that just increase the downward pressure on wage prices?

Raising the Minimum Wage is just a way of increasing Tax Revenue. Now I realiize that Minimum Wage earners get a Refund of their Income Tax.

But their FICA contributions increase (as well as their employer's contribution). The Minimum Wage Earner does not receive a refund on that.

It is a stealth method to increase Tax Revenues from the working poor. Do not misunderstand me. I know that layoffs will increase as a result and total tax revenues will not increase as a result.

But he is not suggesting doing this to help "the little guy". They are not out to help the working poor. They are out to steal as much as they can from them.

It is too bad that the working poor are INNUMERATE and do not understand simple PERCENTAGES. That is one reason that they are the working poor.

Maybe companys could pass some of those production increases on to themselves instead of their workforce. Then our economy will slush more money around faster thus more "growth". Oh wait....

I don't know which is worse...

  1. The WH doesn't believe the instagram chart.
  2. The WH does believe the instagram chart.

In case #1, they are a gang of criminals with no sheriff in town.

In case #2, they are the true believers who will double down when plan A is proven not to work.

As C.S. Lewis wrote:

"Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

The man just can't be that stupid, so I'm assuming he pitching this crap in order to move the focus away from: Obamacare failure, economic misery, Benghazi, unconstitutional activities, UN Agenda 21, destroying the military with communist litmus tests, fast & furious, illegal aliens, etc, etc.
