Hindenburg Omen Spotted

Tyler Durden's picture

While not the end-of-the-world that its name indicates, the confusion (highs, lows, advancers, decliners, and momentum) required to create a "Hindenburg Omen" means markets are not as gung-ho as the headlines might suggest. The last 2 Hindenburg Omens this year saw notable corrections (of course only to be un-corrected higher on the waves of liquidity).

of course, each dip has been met by more flow from the Fed in the past...

The previous time I made a trade based on the last Hinderberg Omen, the only thing that has crashed and burned since has been my investment account. Fuck this useless indicator.

"The FUD, ignorance and paranoia strong on this site is", Yoda might say.  When it comes to bitcoin.

Having spent many hrs talking with guys who are Encryption and IT Pros (at HW+SW level), and who have libertarian leanings/views and paranoid leanings... I have become convinced (with 95% confidence level) that TPTB have more reason to fear or hate it, than to be behind it.  When we look at what is does do, does not do, can do, and could do in the currency markets and private economy.

Nonetheless, those who are wired to respond in a "pre-programmed manner" (who are paranoid, pre-judge or are 'stubborn mules'), there is little point in trying to convince them otherwise.  It's like arguing with a Mormon or Jehova's Witness -- a waste of time.  It is the more the open-minded folks who are more likely to adapt/adopt new mental models and solutions.  IMHO.  I read the comments here accordingly:  Rational or Dogmatic type?

That's what, the 412th Hindenberg Omen that we've seen since this bull run started back in 09, and that has amounted to nothing? I'm a bit dubious as to the validity of this indicator...or any indicator really as all current iterations of fiat currencies are beingn printed to oblivion.

Eh, if you research it you'll see that it's an indicator of a "maybe". That being said, in the chart you can see that when the growth of the fed balance sheet appears to flatline a bit we get an omen and then the balance sheet resumes growth. I can envision one causing the other, or neither causing anything! One thing of note is that in order for this Omen to occur, something very chaotic must happen, and chaos is generally harmful to people that have built strategies based on pattern recognition and trending.

As Comrade Pelosi would say "Teh Word".

Hindenberg omen..Isn't that the 1976 movie starring Greggory Peck, Lee Remick and The little priest named Damien?

No, but I know which movie you mean, and it's easy to confuse the two.

The Hindenburg Omen stars Greg Peckery, Lee Contrick, and an evil little troll named Dimon.
