Shanghai's Record Pollution Is Creeping Inside Buildings
As we noted earlier, pollution in Shanghai has reached record levels causing the government to ban cars and cut production across factories. The images below are not photoshopped or edited... this is the day--to-day life in that bustling city looks like... and in case you thought moving inside was 'safe', "the fog" is creeping into the buildings too now... All we are waiting for now is the rotting corpses of over-capacity Chinese industries to come out of the dark...

b40; Thanks for the poem by T.S.. I have read some T.S. but I was never able to find exactly where the " Not with a bang but a wimper" line came from; Now I know. Again, thanks. Milestones
Steven King: "The Stand"
ABC (United States) teleplay 4-part miniseries
Quoth T.S. Eloit:
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends.
This is the way the world ends,
Not with a bang, but a whimper
I thought it was in the book as well, but I can't find it. I own the Doubleday hardback first printing, copyright 1978...
The PTB are making great strides in their population reduction goals. 1.3 billion Chinese are polluting themselves to an early grave, for the love of avarice.
Remember: Walmart 32 inch flatscreens, only $98!
Sorry I let a "bad one" go this morning, guess it caught the trade winds to Shanghai...sorry my bad!
Looks very much like anti drone defence system to me.......fucking smart the Chinese
I just got back from HKG. I was fine there for nine days, no problems, then got on the plane with a bunch of hacking Laowai and boom, major cold/flu producing copious Celadon-coloured sputum, the works. The crossover from HK to Shenzhen is so vivid, it's like the scenes in TJ in Traffic. The mainland is obviously polluted beyond belief. No wonder their wealthy are bailing out in droves and moving to the West coasts of USA and CAN like it was Elysium. In fact, the North American West coast and Vegas are functioning in precisely that capacity for them.
This is 3 times in a row this has happened and I am seriously considering never returning to the mainland. There is so much that is fascinating there, but I am getting too old to be carrying back this shit.
I worked with a buyer for a majoir retail chain Wednesday, who was apolgetic for being behind on promises. She was in China for 2 weeks and had 7 in-country flights visiting factories. Came home and was ill to the point of being bed ridden for over a week. The atmosphere outside is bad, but what's floating around inside those domestic airline cabins may be even worse.
Well normally after such visit MAN feels invigorated.
She should find a different job.
Haven't been around much, have you? I doubt if you could handle her job. Most men can't. You spend 2 weeks traveling around China, starting early & finishing late everyday, and see how invigorated you feel. Moron.
I just got back from India. I didn't realize how bad it was there. You land and you can see it. Hit me immediately. URI within two days of getting there. People tell me china is worse. It's difficult to imagine that it is. But still possible to imagine.
It felt like I was drinking and smoking all night the first morning in Kolkata.
It's the diesel cars, maybe the manufacturing, but also a good bit of Kolkata is cooking street meat all the time.
?Beijing municipal health authorities said on Friday that the number of lung cancer patients in the city has been rising over the last decade, without elaborating on what might have caused the rise."

K.P., I was in Beijing 7-8 years ago Even then B4 Olympics of 08 I seen days like shown of Shangai. With most homes heated and cooking with coal dust that has been compressed x # people and butted up against mountains like L.A. Bad,bad, bad combination. Milestones
main cause of lung cancer is lungs.
Progress!
Solly, cholly!
HEY AL GORE!!!!!
ANY FUCKING COMMENTS TO ADD???? YOU FUCKING LYING PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!
So the air is so saturated that ventilation systems can't even remove it from indoors? That just sounds terrible.
Rationality along with all associated technologies is killing Mother Earth in the name of profit, aka progress. Shit, Earth is too small and instant profit is too slow. They need to install genetically enhanced Shanghainese in not too futuristic Shanghai as we speak.
Don't forget about the killer London fog of 1952. Killed over 4000 people.
The wind never blows in China? The whole continent must be just like this.
They should have kept to themselves, farming and making firecrackers.
Heard Camel No-filters are a big seller over there.
There are barely any western cigarettes sold on the mainland. Several dozen local brands, the Marlboro family and that's it.
I bring my own (American Spirit non-filter). I enjoy lighting up in a hotel lobby or after a good meal - it's like the 1970's in Chicago!
Not to be a smart ass Hong but perhaps the fact you smoke made your immune system a tad compromised to fight off the shit on that flight you mentioend earlier? JMHO, not judging your smoking, used to be one myself.
I know the feeling!
IIRC 555 is not uncommon too.
But you're right, bringing your own is good - at least you know they ain't fake :-)
Cigarettes fucking suck. EOM
The depopulation of China and India is going exactly as planned. My plan to learn Mandarin and/or Hindi has been delayed to see how this all works out.
This is what happens when the dollar completely distorts the world markets. China does all the manufacturing and we do none. A service economy my @ss.
Get back to work we need more dog treats here in Amerika!
haha and then suddenly rice
rice with chunks
Remember people, your CO2 output is a serious, dire, environmental problem, but the lack of even 1970s pollution control technology in China is of no concern what so ever.
You couldn't pay me to live in that sewer of a country.
Well at least the face masks go with the colour in the fashion shoot :)

I'm tired of talking about Shang-Hai' SMOG! I remember as a kid on 747's flying into the Los Angeles basin during the 70's. The beautiful orange glow of freedom.
Been there done that Bitchez! I miss those 747 2-300s though. China is/was the United States during the 65-85 years.
YC you are so right in so many ways. I feel like I am watching a replay of the 60's and 70's every day here in Jiangxi. When I look at the students its a replay of the 90's.
We were there in April for a month and it was nothing like this.
I've been to China 3 times. If you're that retarded you should just move there! FFS the whole country has been "rototilled" into nothingness!
They are literally poisoning themselves…all for economic growth and with no regard for themselves or Mother Nature. Truly sad.
But then, they are only repeating what's happened in other up and coming greedy developing countries.
beats starving to death, their life expectancy has been increasing each decade
Let them eat cake.
No! LetThemEatRand
Kind of reminds me of the old sci-fi movie Bladerunner.
Yeah and the food is all poisoned too. Yet China has a higher life expectancy than US.
THIS IS BULLISH!!
Does Ticketmaster have seats for Al's Asian Magical Mystical Tour?
In other news, BitCoin just broke under 700. Wow that was fast.
Cough! Cough! Cough!
300 miles sw of Shanghai visibility is less than 1/2 mile. Much less. Couldn't believe my eyes this morning. Over 300 on the pollution index.
That looks like the rogue Stuxnet Virus........or maybe, just maybe, it is because the UK is not doing enough to cut CO2 emissions. THe Jonestown Scenario beckons for the UK
This smog doesn't become a serious concern until the iCrap screen cannot be seen from arms length. At that point, something MUST. BE. DONE.
LMFAO that's a good one
Hey, let's look at this issue thru the prism of "investment".
Can't the Chinese collect all this smog in plastic bags and package it up as Triple AAA derivatives?
Think of the profits
forget tulips and sub-prime mortgages......Chinese smog could be the next big thing ;-)
Here we go! And create a synthetic smog market with 6X leverage and JPM will gladly put that in your portfolio. Gotta love the Wall Street cretins

Shanghai pollution figures hit record highs | Shanghai Daily (2013.12.07)
Shanghai woke up to another choking day yesterday with the air quality index and PM2.5 density at their worst since official records began about a year ago.
But conditions should start to get better from today, forecasters said.
The city’s PM2.5 density surged past 600 micrograms per cubic meter yesterday afternoon, more than eight times the nation’s limit of 75, making the tiny particles the main pollutant.
Average PM2.5 density peaked at 602.5 micrograms per cubic meter at 1pm, while the highest — 627.6 micrograms — was recorded in Hongkou District. PM2.5 refers to airborne particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers in diameter. They are the main cause of urban smog and can cause heart and lung problems.

I googled Shanghai and at google maps it is a clear day in Shanghai from what I see from space via the computer.
These photos of smog in Shanghai are photoshopped, for sure.
