U.S. Military Changes Drone Rules To Make Targeting Of Civilians Easier

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Michael Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

The drone issue is just another topic in which President Barrack Obama has proven himself to be a world-class liar and master of deception. Despite his claims that drone strikes do little damage to civilian populations, in July we discovered that “of the 746 people killed in drone strikes in Pakistan from 2006-2009, an incredible 20% were civilians and 94 (13% of the total) were children.”

I suppose that number just isn’t good enough, because The Pentagon has decided to change the rules of engagement when it comes to drone strikes, now making it easier to target civilians. From The Washington Times:

The Pentagon has loosened its guidelines on avoiding civilian casualties during drone strikes, modifying instructions from requiring military personnel to “ensure” civilians are not targeted to encouraging service members to “avoid targeting” civilians.

Hey cops, how about you “try to avoid” beating the shit out of people and violating their constitutional rights for no reason. Yeah, because that’ll work.

In addition, instructions now tell commanders that collateral damage “must not be excessive” in relation to mission goals, according to Public Intelligence, a nonprofit research group that analyzed the military’s directives on drone strikes.

Administration officials say the strikes are legal because the U.S. is at war with al Qaeda and its associates. They also insist there is a wide gap between the government’s civilian casualty count and those of human rights groups.

Right, we are at “war with al Qaeda,” when it is convenient to be at war with them. When it is convenient to be allies with al Qaeda, we will do that too.

Despite Mr. Obama’s pledge for more transparency on drone strikes, the administration “continues to answer legitimate questions and criticisms by saying, ‘We can’t really talk about this,’” said Naureen Shah, advocacy adviser at Amnesty International.

Can’t. Make. This. Stuff. Up.

Escalation, Bitchez!

For every action, there is a reaction.  What do we expect our rivals to do?  Quit & go home?  Roll over?

So much for spending more equals advantage.

Our chief disadvantage is corruption, and yes, it's a National Security Issue that MUST be addressed. Get politics out, survival is at stake.

Learn to sail, and learn to navigate without ANY electronic aids (which includes your pocket calculator).

Buy a reliable mechanical clock or watch, and start keeping a note of how much it loses / gains (and also note the temperature - often the main driver of minor inaccuracies). Alternatively buy an electronic clock (ideally all-electronic, no moving parts) and mount it in a closed metal container. Again make a note of accuracy drift, and consider modifying it to take higher capacity batteries. Only open the container to check the time - this will be your primary time reference.

Stock up on paper charts, get a full set of Sight Reduction Tables, and buy a decent sextant, sliderule (via EBay!) and trigonometric tables (again via EBay). If your intended vessel does not have a traditional compass, buy a combination hand bearing / dinghy compass (e.g. Plastimo) - EBay once again.

You are now as well equipped as the navigators of yore, and they reliably (and accurately) sailed the globe. Have fun.

Really, that's all you need.

Fantastic advice, really, for some but I've become a lubber and so be till the end. I do say to youngsters: learn to draw with a pencil, forget the computer. Works for some, not others. You do bring something important and that is what is so lacking, I think, these days which is the relationship between the body and the geometry of the physical world. We have all sorts of tittilalations that give the 'sense' of being real but are not. If the feedback in computer games was that when your leg was pierced by a bullet shot by the bad guy and you would actually feel that pain, few would play. Of course, at the same time, the lack of that experience can make one an exceptional remote killer.

"...“of the 746 people killed in drone strikes in Pakistan from 2006-2009, an incredible 20% were civilians and 94 (13% of the total) were children.”....

How do we know that this figure represents only 20% of the civilian casualties in just this Country and area alone and not 100%?

As we recall from Korea and Vietnam anyone that wasn't "a U.S. sympathizer" and did not do what it was told "in-Country" was fair game and indiscriminately declared Communist collaborator or VC?  This included any political oposition that protested the American occupations and use of force peaceful or otherwise.

The same holds true to this day in the game of combating terrorism.  If you refuse to move from a location the United States Government declares as enemy hostile (whether it is or is not) in your own Country, you're cannon fodder and labeled as a target and a "terrorist" it's that simple.  Nobody in the United States military along with members of Congress will investigate these facts and the evidence of ALL eyewitness accounts in these attacks until the American people and no one else demands it and that it stops once and for all!

I know this much.  As long as we have the NDAA that was illegally signed into alleged law without ratifcation to our Constitution on December 31, 2011, which declares that the President has the sole extrajudicial discretion and authority to target any individual on a battlefield that now extends CONUS and OCONUS, if we continue to turn both a blind eye and deaf ear to these violations in places like Pakistan, Yemen and Afghanistan it's only a matter of time before we see these drone strikes coming home and being used by the DHS and state and local law enforcement.

Whither the Republic?

The US Army has always seen the need to kill non-combatants Americans, especially the children.  Sherman burnt families out in the winter of 1865. See what was said about Black Kettle's people during  " Colonel Chivington responded in kind. In a Denver speech, in August of 1864, Chivington is quoted as saying, ...kill and scalp all, little and big... nits make lice. He was applauded, and the phrase became the slogan among his fighting regiment."

David Koresh is a modern day example.

The only way this will end is if Pakistan comes up with some way to drone Americans at wedding parties. I can just see it. Piles of bloody flesh intersperse with wedding cake and opulent accoutrements ( had a work associate spend 100k on her daughter's wedding and I'm still nauseous over it). We are so far removed with this suffering and it's deplorable we're so indifferent. I say let Americans eat cake in the new sense.

Considering that .gov spends taxpayer money to fund the terrorists and then spends money on the drones to kill them, this is beyond insane.  And then of course civilian casualties create more terrorists which create more justification for droning and mass surveillance - keep that circlejerk of slavery and death going - all for the sake of the military industrial complex.  Forward!

Michael, I made long comment about this sort of thing, back in early September, that showed that the Western world's militaries have been deliberately and remorselessly targeting civilians from the air during and since WWII. And this (once secret) policy has not changed one bit, i.e. civilians are not 'collateral damage', and they never have been. They are in fact the Primary-Target of almost all air attack strategy (even though it may not appear so, initially).

The destruction of defending military forces is only pursued to the extent necessary to open the corridors to attacking the civilians and destroying the cities and towns in which they live (and which they need to live). The military effects of this process are Secondary.

The targeting emphasis may vary, from war to war, in its degree, and its obviousness, but it is still the case, today, that attacks on the civilian population, and where it lives, is the number one objective of all western air campaign attacks.

This may seem a quite incredible accusation to make to some, but the numbers we have on every mechanised war regarding the proportions of civilian death and injuries to military deaths and injuries, invariably verifies that this is the case.

But much more importantly, and very significantly, the analysis of the historical documentation proves beyond any question of doubt that what I'm saying above, is in fact correct and actually true. Western military engagement policy in warfare is the deliberate mass-murder and mass starvation and terrorising of the civilian populations (as you'll see in detail below). And when ground forces move in, much the same prevails, even in occupation.

So we should not be surprised in the least to find that our militaries are endlessly seeking excuses  and methods to use remote means to increase their opportunities to murder and injure civilians, and to destroy their homes, property and employment, and turn them in to refugees, because this is in fact the PRIMARY ROLE of our military.

Killing the uniformed enemy force, and decomming its equipment is a SECONDARY ROLE of our military force. The more important interim role for it is 'force-protection', against counter-attack and interdiction, whilst they get about accessing and slaughtering as many civil non-combatants as possible on the other side.

That what modern 'combat' is. Here's what I wrote about this in September:

__

It's not just the US, it really is the entire Western sphere of influence, and it goes back a very long time, even before WWII. The US is just the most powerful country in that sphere of global control. The rot is very deep and very ingrained, if not deeply inculturated.

Let me illustrate the degree of prevailing murderous Western lying and civilian murdering during WWII, and then go forward from there, as we don't even have to focus on the USA, per-sec, as this really is a westernized mentality, and cultural-elite practices, of massive hypocrisy and outright lies, designed to deceive the entire world.

Including, and especially, to deceive our very own civil generations ever since with the nonsense of the moralistic western 'good-guy' -- this is what we really are, and have been.

--

There were dozens of deliberate massed bomber attacks on German civilians and cities, by the RAF, during WWII. These were not accidents, they were premeditated mass-murders of hundreds of thousands of civilian people and their homes.

"... Three years later, on April 30, 1963 my book The Destruction of Dresden was published around the world. A year after that, I was given a tour of the underground Cabinet War Rooms from where, on occasion, Mr Winston Churchill had directed the war—his ‘bunker.’ In those days it took a minister’s approval to see the rooms, still intact as on the day Churchill left office in July 1945; Duncan Sandys arranged it for me. I was deeply impressed.

Then I noticed a stereoscopic picture viewer set up in one corner for wartime VIP visitors; I switched it on—and found that the stereo pictures that the prime minister had left on display were an aerial view of Dresden after the February 1945 air raids: row upon row, street upon street, acre upon acre of gutted, lifeless buildings. He was not ashamed of it; indeed, he had boasted of his achievement. ..."

"... While Professors Blackett and Zuckerman had decisively dismissed the possibility of inflicting serious damage on the German populace, Mr Churchill had consulted a different oracle: he had asked Professor Lindemann, who had had the persistent failure of R.A.F. Bomber Command before him since his secretary’s melancholy discovery of Christmas 1940, to propound a bombing policy by which Britain could effectively assist her new ally in the East.

Lindemann’s final report, dated March 30, 1942, suggested that there was little doubt that an area bombing offensive could break the spirit of the enemy provided that it was aimed at the working-class areas of the fifty-eight German towns with a population of more than one hundred thousand inhabitants. ‘Each bomber will in its lifetime drop about forty tons of bombs,’ reasoned Lindemann. ‘If these are dropped on built-up areas, they will make about 4,000 to 8,000 people homeless.’ Between March 1942 and the middle of 1943 it should be possible to make about one-third of the whole German population homeless, provided that industrial resources were concentrated on this campaign.

The Lindemann minute was passed to Professor Blackett and another eminent scientist, Professor Henry Tizard, for comment; both of them were former naval officers, and both dismissed the calculations as being seriously in error. They suggested that Lindemann was overestimating the success of an area bombing offensive by six and five times respectively. Both were overruled.

The bombing policy which Lindemann advocated did not require many changes in Bomber Command’s tactics. As recently as February 14, 1942 Bomber Command had been reminded in the most unmistakable language that its primary purpose was to attack Germany’s residential areas. ‘Ref the new bombing directive,’ Sir Charles Portal had scribbled in pencil to his deputy the following day, ‘I suppose it is quite clear that the aiming-points are to be the built-up areas, not, for instance, the dockyards or aircraft factories where these are mentioned?’ This was to be made quite clear. Portal emphasised, if it was not already understood. This, then, was the policy of destroying residential areas which awaited Sir Arthur Harris when he arrived at Bomber Command’s underground headquarters at High Wycombe to take up his new appointment as commander-in-chief on February 22, 1942. The Casablanca Directive of a year later merely reiterated the area bombing policy in bolder and more concrete terms. There can be no more eloquent proof of Harris’ innocence of having personally initiated the policy of the area bombing of civilian residential areas.

As Elizabeth Corwin pointed out in an elegant little study for the University of California in Los Angeles in 1987, this policy was effectively concealed from the public by the British government until March 1961 when it was exposed by C P Snow in a slim volume entitled Science and Government. It was then admitted the following September in the Official History of the Strategic Air Offensive against Germany. ..."

"... Even when the Church, in the person of Dr Bell, Bishop of Chichester, did in early February 1944 protest vigorously about the air offensive—he had learned of the horrors of Hamburg and the other great cities from neutral sources while in Sweden—the national newspapers were enjoined to deride and ridicule this lonely voice. This contemptuous deception of the elected representatives of the people, this deliberate blinding of the eyes of the Church, these strictures on the voice of the national press—these were all the ugly manifestations of the total power necessitated by total war. ..."

"... More important perhaps than these mechanical innovations was the favourable climate of public opinion towards the bombing offensive which now existed in England. In all of his public pronouncements the Secretary of State for Air, Sir Archibald Sinclair, had been careful to stress that Bomber Command was bombing only military objectives; he and other politicians had decried as absurd any suggestion that their heroic bomber crews were executing deliberate attacks on residential or working-class housing areas.

This deliberate deception was perhaps the most egregious fraud perpetrated on the British public throughout the war; a hundred thousand airmen knew and recognised that their aircraft were being dispatched night after night with the deliberate intention of setting fire to Germany’s cities, knew that since December 16, 1940 the aiming points had invariably been in the heart of the civilian housing areas.

Inevitably, rumours of the truth did leak out. Early in 1943 a Bombing Restriction Committee made its appearance in London with an address in Parliament Hill, but attempts by Labour Members of Parliament to have its leaflets banned and its members interned came to nothing. The real attack on bombing policy, from the highest governmental and religious quarters in the United Kingdom, was to be delayed until the late autumn of 1943; by that time three of the most devastating and bloody air raids on Germany had already been executed.

The first target which was to experience the full force of Bomber Command, its aircrews fresh and the bomb-aimers undeterred by ground defences, was the twin city of Wuppertal, at the eastern end of the Ruhr, on which disaster fell on the night of May, 29-30, 1943. It was the first time that one air raid had killed several thousand people—burning most of them alive. ..."

"... ‘When we came to the target area at the end of the attack it was obvious that the city was doomed,’ remembers the pilot of a No 3 Group Lancaster which had been hit and delayed by flak over Chemnitz. Originally briefed to arrive at Dresden five minutes before the end of the attack, their Lancaster was now over ten minutes late. Probably theirs was the last aircraft over the target. ‘There was a sea of fire covering in my estimation some forty square miles. The heat striking up from the furnace below could be felt in my cockpit. The sky was vivid in hues of scarlet and white, and the light inside the aircraft was that of an eerie autumn sunset. We were so aghast at the awesome blaze that although alone over the city we flew around in a stand-off position for many minutes before turning for home, quite subdued by our imagination of the horror that must be below. We could still see the glare of the holocaust thirty minutes after leaving.’

Another No 3 Group pilot on the way home was so impressed by the persistent red glow in the sky behind that he verified the aircraft’s position with the navigator: they were over 150 miles from Dresden. Instead of growing dimmer, the fires beyond the horizon seemed to be getting brighter. In his diary afterwards this pilot noted, ‘It was the first time the R.A.F. had bombed the city. I don’t think it will have to be done again.’

‘The second force reported that their marking and bombing too were concentrated,’ summarised Bomber Command analysts afterwards, ‘and that the resultant fires were visible for 150—200 miles.

Between them the two forces had dropped 1,477.7 tons of high explosive on Dresden, including 529 four-thousand pounders and one eight-thousand pounder, and 1,181.6 tons of fire bombs. In the diversionary raids, 109 Mosquitoes had attacked Magdeburg, Bonn, Dortmund, Misburg, and Nuremberg without loss. ..."

"... A third of the incendiaries had small explosive charges added to deter fire fighters. A large number of long-delay time-bombs had been dropped. By mid March the German authorities had located 331 unexploded bombs. To add to the long-term dislocation, the bombers had also dropped bundles of psychological-warfare leaflets and millions of fake ration cards. ..."

"... As  the swathe of smoke drifted down the River Elbe toward Czechoslovakia, the people in the towns and cities over which it passed must have guessed that here were the results of no ordinary raid, that these were in fact the last mortal remains of a city which twelve hours earlier had sheltered a million people and their property.

As the smoke pall was driven ever further from the burning city, the air cooled; as the air cooled, the damp clouds, heavy with dust and smoke, broke. The rains fell along the length of the Elbe valley.

Not only rain descended from the sky: the countryside to the leeward of Dresden was drenched with a steady shower of wet and sooty ash. British prisoners of war working in the large parcels sorting dump at Stalag IVB over twenty-five miles south-east of Dresden noticed that the smoke pall lasted three days and that particles of smouldering clothing and charred paper were still floating down over the camp for many days after that.

The owner of a house in Mockethal, some fifteen miles from Dresden, found his garden littered with prescriptions and pill-boxes from a chemist’s shop; the labels showed them to have come from the heart of the Dresden inner city.

Papers and documents from the gutted Land Registry in the inner city likewise showered down in the village of Lohmen, near Pirna, some eighteen miles away; schoolchildren had to spend several days scouring the fields for them.

These were the manifestations of the most terrible fire-storm in the history of the R.A.F.’s area offensive against German cities. According to the police report the fire-storm appears to have erupted between half an hour and forty-five minutes after the first attack began, and to have subsided only gradually until, with the fall of a light rain toward three A.M., it could be said to have worked itself out and lost its fury ..."

"... It would be March 22 [1944] before the R.A.F.’s photographic reconnaissance planes obtained clear photographs of the city. From their study of these, Bomber Command’s operational research section reached some surprising conclusions: the two British raids, they said, had devastated 85% of the fully built up area, ‘Rail facilities and industries suffered immense damage,’ they claimed. ..."

"... The summer of 1944 provided a further exposition of the theory of the area attack, this time by the German air force. In June 1944, the V-weapon offensive against London began. ‘Essentially indiscriminate,’ as Mr Churchill angrily termed the V.1 offensive, it could be compared with the nightly nuisance raids by the Pathfinders’ Light Night Striking Force Mosquitoes on Berlin. The effect of these V-weapons, small though they were, was almost as immediate as it was unscheduled. While on the one hand they produced a grave rift between the western allies—the British prime minister strenuously advocating the use of gas bombs on German targets as a retaliation 1 ..."

{Footnote #1 - "... In Cabinet on Jul 6, 1944. He was inebriated at the time, according to the private diary of Anthony Eden (Univ. of Birmingham, Avon Papers); and see the diary of the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sir A B Cunningham (British Museum, Cunningham Papers, Additional MS 52577): ‘Too tired and too much alcohol.’}..."

So Churchill had knowingly and deliberately ordered the mass-murder of ordinary civilians, within all German cities, and Germany's military had the unmitigated temerity to attack London in reply, but with much less effective 'terror' weapons, so Churchill then goes on an alcoholic apoplectic binge and actually argues on the record within the war cabinet, to wipe-out the German population, using massive chemical attacks of lethal gases.

Indeed there's an incredibly rich trail of formal and informal documentation and archival evidence that shows quite unambiguously that Churchill and the Head of Bomber Command had both continuously argued for and emphasized their wish to make repeated massive "thousand-bomber raid" saturation area-bombing attacks against the most highly-populated urban centers in Germany. Their aim was to kill and smash as much of the city's population and buildings as possible, in order to create an overwhelming avalanche of homeless, wounded, starving and dieing German refuges, as possible, under an operational proposal referred to as "THUNDERCLAP". This was a genuine national racial genocide attack operation, that called for the deliberate and concerted use of massive incendiary bomb attacks, against the civilian population centers of Germany.

In the Pacific War the US air force actually used the same "Thunderclap" approach, on Japan, where they typically butchered between 40 to 60% of the populations of most of the cities which they burned to the ground. Frankly, Churchill and the US leadership were no better than Hitler, Stalin, or Tojo. The 'Allied' govts merely won, and had far better propaganda and lie-support apparatus, plus a forgive-all 'democratic' veneer, and their small-c 'christian' hypocritical glosses. Plus the West had a much more conditioned shallow jingoistic war-inclined populations, who did not hesitate to march off to imperial wars, and they not merely refused to seriously challenge the political and media interests, which openly supported racial total-wars and mass-murdering of any non-combatants -- civilian mothers and children -- but were instead keen to murder as many Germans, and Japanese civilians, as they possibly could.

And they were very good at this, and have taken great pride in it ever since.

And when that was all over, the rotten bastards in charge just pretended someone else did it, and the western sheep started mouthing platitudes about "universal human rights", civil-societies, and world-peace, while the victors re-wrote the hystery, and claimed UNreproachable and heroic  'good-guy' status, while they pretended they'd saved the entire world from the scourge of blatant Fascism!

George Orwell should have called his book '1948' (the year that he published it), not '1984', as I'm fairly sure that's why he used that year, within the title, as he'd just witnessed the 'Victors' re-write the lying western hysteries of WWII.

Then came along this naughty David Irving hystorical-revisionist chap, who used the formal documents of the actual events, and blew the lid off the prevailing myths and lie-storms, pervading the entire western 'Allied' world-view since WWII, which our remarkably vicious and obviously genocidal 'good-guy' govts thought they'd swept far enough back under the 20th century carpet, to never emerge again.

The failure to take full note of what our govts really do, and really have done, means we go on believing them, and supporting them, and doing it again, and again. Iraq WMD's, and now Syria's WMDs, and the baseless Hillary-originated Gaddafi genocide-scare in Benghazi, were just the latest contrived excuses for more air attacks on civilian cities, and the destruction of more urban populations, infrastructure and nations, and the elimination of even their daily basic needs.

This isn't even complicated:  Any person, any NGO, any govt, or any military, especially your own, who does that to other human beings for any reason, is a literal enemy of the people and an enemy of peace. People who espouse attacking other countries, their cities and populations, can in no way be considered 'moral' or 'legal', let along to qualify as 'leaders', nor are they worthy of 'support'--material, or otherwise.

There are no actual Western 'Allied' leaders today, there are only puppets, crooks and soft-power fascist usurpers who have expropriated all civil resources, including our own lives, and who are holding us and all that we have, and all that we have built, hostage to their genocidal whim and antagonistic criminal arrogance.

"... In 1950, when Churchill’s memory was fading—though he still had fifteen years to live—Hilary St George Saunders, the official historian of the Royal Air Force, asked him for his recollections of the air raid on Dresden. ‘In February 1945,’ he told the prime minister, ‘there was a bomber attack on Dresden. Not less than 100,000 persons were killed. It was the most serious single blow against Germany by Bomber Command.’ Churchill however professed not to recall anything about it. ‘I thought the Americans did it,’ he told the historian, and he advised: ‘Air Chief Marshal Harris would be the person to contact.’ ..."

"... On February 13, 1946, the former commander-in-chief of R.A.F. Bomber Command sailed from Southampton on the first stage of his journey into voluntary exile. That night, throughout eastern and central Germany, at 10:10 pm the church bells began to peal. For twenty minutes the bells rang out across the territories now occupied by a force as ruthless as any that the bomber offensive had been launched to destroy. It was the first anniversary of the worst single massacre in European history. ..."

Apocalypse - The Destruction of Dresden - David Irving, 1963 (2005 edition)

--

Deliberate air raids on civilian populations were without any question officially sanctioned and profoundly encouraged Allied military doctrine, and premeditated political choice.

And that has basically been the Western Hemisphere's unstated military policy since ~1941.

At no point did the aircrews consider aborting attacks when they personally and directly saw their 'targets' were obviously the whole city's population, of which 135,000 were killed in Dresden alone, not to mention the hundreds of thousands horribly injured, and who did not die, but suffered incomprehensibly during the next ~6 hours, and 10 to 50 years of both physical and mental agony and damage.

Before during and after WWII, the respective militaries, governments and mainstream media 'MSM', of the day, insisted repeatedly that Allied forces only attacked known military targets and never deliberately attacked civilian populations, but instead sought always to minimize civilian deaths and trauma.

Which was and is completely ruthlessly and outrageously false.

The diametric opposite of what they said is what they were actually doing, and are still doing today, and there is abundant evidence, from WWII, to the present-day, that 'Allied' air forces routinely engage in mass-murderer air attack with no regard to the civilian populations - but do have regard for being caught doing it.

It's all been a grand lie, and it was and is still, backed-up by a massive Industrial-Lie-complex, of media propaganda spruikers, who's job it is to deliberately obscure, soft-soap and/or outright deny and hystoric calumny of what the 'Allied' air forces did during WWII -- and since then.

The air force bomber squadrons and their weapons were primarily designed to destroy civilian lives, and our military arsenals still are, if you care to open your eyes, and have an honest look at what they really do, and how and where they are really used.

Yes, those WWII bombers (and also the missiles of today) do attack and defend against each other, as well, but their primary effect, when employed, was intended to smash the economy, industry, workplace, and homes, infrastructures, health, and lives of entire civilian populations--who were the true targets--especially in the major urban sprawls, and the suburban industrial workforce.

This same thing occurs today, and much more of it is planned to come, but we are managed and prepped by a complicit wicked media machine, to pretend this terrible urban and rural destruction that we see, is really just the regrettable sided-effect of terrorist activity and militant resistance to the western attackers, rather than a primary objective of destabilization and aggressive fascist domineering, and its process of urban 'SOFT' MASS-MURDER of the civilian lives of such countries.

They may not line 100,000 people up to a trench and pop them all in the skull over a 48 hour period, but the cumulative effects, overtime, are much the same anyway. It is mass-murder that's taking place, but under a sick and false pretense of 'legitimate' defense, and the provision of the farce of imposed 'security'.

And the very same groups of highly trained Western 'professionals' (from Govts of course), and the same media organization cadres, are again feeding us these same grand lies, and using almost exactly the same lines, and same excuses, as prior attacks. And don't these all sound way too familiar, to anyone who's bothered to listen to the construction and positing of these grand-lies for the past ~70 years?

We have all the evidence from WWII and Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the current attempt to present the "Allied" attack proposition, within the Syria context. We must bomb them to save them, and Al-CIAda is your best friend.

Read this, this is what we really do:

The same militarist assholes are at it again prescribing their rank lies of "peace and stability" via bombing, destabilization, bribes and mass-butchery--of us as well. Just look at John McCain's "bomb-bomb-bomb Iran" video and it's plain as day what he's all about, and he is just more open about it. And still the ravening bastard grandstands in public with his 'moralizing' lies, arguing for wars and bombardments, and grand destruction, and the elimination of peace ... in order to 'make' peace ... via war and massive national disorder in regions. The man is barking insane, he was insane in Vietnam, and he's completely insane and homicidal and genocidal right now. A "shelter in place" should be issued whenever he walks by.

McCain and all of this Washington Cohort, of similarly mass-murdering scumbags, simply want to slaughter Syrians, Lebanese, and Iranians. Not even the IRGC, per-sec, no, just Iranians in general. Bombing the IRGC, well, that would be the cherry-on-top, but not the point of the exercise.

Military bombardment of civilian cities is equated with peace within the western mainstream political mindset, and this is a very serious problem for the world. And in the minds of Western militaries, it's clearly far worse again -- we have the videos and the testimony of survivors, so this can not be denied.

And we know for sure that the US air force deliberately encourages messianic hardline christian fundamentalist teachings within its pilot recruits. It's really not optional, it's been a systemic prerequisite for years, to bomb the baddies for the Lord.

Under no circumstances can we or should we trust any western Government, especially our own, nor believe, or allow the murdering rat-bastards like McCain, Cheney, Kerry and Obama to start more wars in our names, with our money, with our involuntary 'approval' or acquiescence, making massed attacks not even to defend our own land or people. These are completely indefensible acts of aggression pretending to be acts of mere intervention, for high-brow and lofty purposes.

Bombing a city is not an innocent act, nor a high-minded purpose, it's an act of unforgivable barbarous mass-murdering evil bastardry.

The thing these psychos detest more than being challenged with their rank warmongering is their keen malevolence toward anyone who dares to tell the truth about the actual history or their grand-lie themes, of making 'peace' and moral goodness via endless butchery of ordinary civilians, under the disguise of a wars against some dastardly military villain, or against some "non-state actor" ... blah-blah-blah.

Not one of those mass-murdering bastards is worth their weight in dried dog turd.

--

Finally, I encourage you to watch all of this video, as it's a staggering portrait of pure evil at large, conducted in our names, and without us even knowing about it. It's only come to light during the last several years:

The Most Secret Place On Earth: The massive US covert air campaign against the civilian populace of Laos

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8cIki7awN8

The setup of the attack actually started prior to the US-Vietnam war, and ended after the Vietnam war, and was much bigger than the air attacks on north Vietnam! ... and you didn't even know it was happening. And the attack pilots and their ground crews didn't ever tell anyone that they'd done it. Indeed, even in the fictional movie 'Apocalypse Now', portrayed going up-river into Laos as a no-go zone, a neutral territory, a line on a map you must not cross. But the truth was that the US was crossing that line incessantly and bombing the shit out of Laos from the very beginning! Even before they then did the same thing to Cambodia. And not one US General or Politician has ever swung on the end of a rope for it.

Fascism by stealth is what we do, and have been doing for many, many decades.

We haven't been 'protecting' or 'securing' a damn thing, except the worst crooks, deceivers, torturers and murderers of this world.

Churchill was not authorising testing of Anthrax bombs on Gruinard Island with the intention of harming sheep in Germany. He was essentially pro-French and anti-German which is why he had that lunatic moment in May 1940 where only Dowding and Lord Gort prevented him throwing away British forces to save France..........and why de Gaulle survived US attempts to replace him with Darlan.

Paris was never bombed by anyone - by agreement.

Bombing was essentially class-based to destroy densely populated areas such as Cologne or Hamburg or Frankfurt or Hamm........it was to cause disruption and divert resources and was within the capability of 4-engined bombers which only the Allies possessed.

It was also because Churchill had Gallipoil to his name and Attlee, the Deputy PM had been a subaltern at Gallipoli and knew Churchill's plan was a disaster - so they feared a repeat if they invaded France in 1942-43 and needed a diversion to stop Stalin pressing FDR into accelerating the Atlantic Invasion

"... so they feared a repeat if they invaded France in 1942-43 and needed a diversion to stop Stalin pressing FDR into accelerating the Atlantic Invasion ..."

Not so, the Allies were fully engaged in the Mediterranean and southern Europe, and still in North Africa right up to May 1943, they had barely even set the ground work for an invasion of Europe prior to that. Plus the war against the U-boats in the North Atlantic was still far from won, by May 1943.

So the materials and troops were not in place and the US still had nor generated or trained and equipped the divisions it would require.

Plus North Africa had revealed that the American forces had a great deal to learn and to further develop, before they took-on Axis forces in Europe itself. Plus they had to build the various air forces to do it, while the attrition rate in 1943 for the US air force was extremely high, because the Germans still had an unimpaired gasoline supply. This still had to be degraded before full-scale invasion of Europe was viable in the West.

People in the US always commiserate the losses of the invasion of France on D-Day and they talk about it that way because it was in fact a success. But they almost never mention the catastrophic losses in North Africa, in the battle of Kasserine Pass, in Feb 1943, where US forces were slaughtered in very large numbers and basically destroyed by the Germans.

They don't mention those much more terrible US losses, and failed battes within the propaganda movies and myths of today because the US forces performed very badly in battle there, which proved to everyone in early 1943 that the US was far from ready to risk it all on a full-scale attack on Axis central Europe, any time soon.

The number one thing that changed the flow and pace of WWII, was the almost simultaneous collapses of the Germans, both in North Africa, and in Stalingrad, in May-1943.

Prior to that any invasion of France was quite impossible to sustain, or to even undertake. Soon after this though, the Allies attacked the German oil production base, and much new technology and higher-production rates of ships and aircraft finally began to hammer the U-boats from ocean dominance, from mid-1943 onward.

Thus any invasion of France was quite impossible to undertake and sustain, prior to early to mid 1944, when it finally took place in June.

In Alan Bullock's book, Hitler, one of the German senior Generals said before the Pact of Steel was signed that "whoever had the Italians on their side would lose the next war."

The Duce's adventures in the Balkans and in Africa kept 'Dolf from launching his attack on Russia by 6 weeks. It was, in retrospect, perhaps the worst strategic blunder of the war, certainly in the top 3.

Sat, 12/07/2013 - 12:48 | 4224416 Element
Element's picture

Not sure it would have made much difference, the truth was Hitler's intel was bad, he'd presumed that Stalin's purges had dramatically weakened and disorganized the Russian military and that they were much less prepared than they needed to be to have a real chance of defeating the German advances. Hitler was then repeatedly stunned by the number of T-34 medium tanks the Russians kept churning out until the end of the war, and the number and the effectiveness of Russian light attack aircraft, plus their artillery forces.

The truth was Russia was a lot more prepared to crank up war production for a land battle with Germany than anyone had expected. The officer purges had not made the military ineffective, so the moment the Germans got bogged-down in Stalingrad it was almost guaranteed to be a defeat of Hitler.

Maybe if the winters were not so bad during WWII Hitler might have had a chance, but I don't think the Italian's lack of commitment was a major deciding factor.

The Italians had a very capable navy but totally failed to use it in WWII, so it's main units were sunk by British aircraft carrier aircraft, in port. The Italians in north Africa were easily defeated by the Australians, who mass-surrendered to them, and that was the end of the Italian army's core force. Then the Australian Army withdrew to the Pacific theater, to fight the Japanese in Papua New Guinea, thus leaving primarily US and British forces to invade and finish-off Italy itself. Toward the latter half, the Italians also had few fighter or bomber aircraft and no fuel so Duce` was begging both off of Hitler. By this time Hitler had lost all faith in them against the allies and thought it smarter to equip and supply German squadrons instead.

Despite the fall of Italy this did not itself make much difference because the Allies did not try to reach Germany via either Italy or the Balkans, through Greece. It was more a battle to make sure they could free-up allied forces to attack from the channel into France.

Hitler was already a goner though, due to the rate of ground-attack weapons production in Russia. And production of almost everything in the USA's case, so much so that it completely overwhelmed forces in two theaters and across two oceans.

Plus Hitler was losing more of his fuel production and distribution capacity every day the US and British long range fighter-attack and bombing continued. Few people realize that the A-bomb was produced specifically to bomb Germany, and only after Germany fell, Japan became the target for first-use. So Hitler was going to lose and Washington was quite sure of this by about Christmas 1943. After that time it was all about shaping where things would go, at that point, and demonstrating to Stalin that he could not take all of Western Europe, and survive the attempt if he tried.

I have read your above post about the targeting of civilians. Wow. Just Wow. Amazing.

First, it kind of puts Fallujah into perspective. Depleted Uranium - fucking genocidal savagery.

Secondly, it's amazing the shitstorm around the historian David Irving, the guy actually goes to source documents to write history, and is attacked in a carpet bomb of neverending lawsuits. Incredibly, the British government even seized a bunch of his personal notes.

So as we all know the State is no friend of truth or civility.

Anyways thanks Element for your insight.

Irving is an incredible historian and his books are a very important resource for anyone who wants to understand what really occurred during the middle of the 20th century, and to see how states, state leaders, militaries, and propagandists really behave in practice.

The bold-face truth of it all is certainly despised.

Re killing civilians Mars, we only have to look at the stats of every western mechanized war since WWI to clearly see that this is the case. What we didn't realize is that it's the very point of armed combat, and not a side effect of it. In a modern war you will smash the opposing military if you kill and injure its civilians, and in a total-war it must be done.

That is clearly what the Allied politicians and commanders concluded, and still more or less act on now, though its a bit less obvious. But that is the real equation of modern war, and they all know it.

The fact the 'Allies' denied it, then, and now, and pretended they don't ever do this, and haven't, or that every bombing campaign that they now undertake is for a humanitarian bombing purposes, to save a civilian population from some wicked leader, is probably the most abhorrent aspect of all such air campaigns. Truly sick puppies.

And the more effective that bomb-for-peace lie is, the less likely we are to realize where it's leading us until thousands of cities are destroyed ... for humanitarian reasons of course.

It's easy to say that whenever civilians are killed that it was not an accident.

But if you set aside actions which took place in WWII where civilians were certainly targeted in Germany, is it not a better description of modern day events to say that civilians have become "unavoidable collateral damage" in many conflicts. Some of this is due to the designated 'bad guys' (aka THEM) locating themselves and their military equipment inside civilian towns/cities and areas of dense population. And of course civilians often provide cover for these 'bad guys' against the self-appointed 'good guys' (aka US).

Since pentagon and think-tank war studies (warmongers-are-us) during the 1990s all of the 'defense'  talk became about 'urban warfare' within city environments. But the truth is WWII was also largely a war on the cities, hundreds of large dense cities were the real targets of most combat air attacks, and it was these cities that were all smashed, and by far this was where most people were killed. The non-city based battles within WWII and ever since, have largely been between forces moving between the cities, to either defend or attack them, or lay siege.

All that has 'changed' today is the US Military, in particular, and Western militaries in general have more recently explicitly said  they were going to fight in the place where most of the people on earth live.

And why? Because they figured that this is where the people who want to resist them will be, and will fight them to kick them out of their cities, i.e. given we're going to dominate you, and you will resent it, we will make your cities kill-zones, if you resist us, so we believe future wars will necessarily be urban wars, so we're telling you that we are going to design our forces to PRIMARILY demolish your cities and kill civilians who will in most respects be indistinguishable from the combatants we created.

We've seen how they do it too, they create the faux enemy boogie-man, all from their own creation, and from their own funding, arming and training, then piss them off and fabricate false-flag attacks, respond with air attacks, drone strikes. All to breed antagonism and resistance, then they invade the cites and largely destroy them and kill hundreds of thousands of people. They claim the 'legal' right, nay, legal 'responsibility', under international lawlessness, to occupy and stay there, to 'fix' it.

i.e. we'll install our puppets (just look back at how Karzai popped up one day in the US/NATO media, what a circus that was), and build giant 'embassy' forts, and bases full of thousands of cruel murdering evil assholes, who use their massive propaganda machine to pretend to be honourable misunderstood good-guys keeping the peace, and bringing security and tranquillity to the wastes. Real cowboys and itchy-bums stuff.

And that's all been just for starters, as this was only what they do with regard to a small militia, which was often and variously described in terms of being, "... not more than about ~200 al-qaeda fighters ...", with allied Taleeban groups.

So when they actually face a real force, one that fights back effectively, for real, the urban spiral escalation will kill tens of millions of people, within months, not just a few hundred thousand over a decade due to the threat of ~200 bozos.

And despite all the talk about inevitable urban warfare and the need to keep civilian casualties low, this does not explain what they did to several of Iraq's cities - they demolished them. Why? Because their resistance was too effective and too organised.

See what I mean?

And nor does all that talk of civil casualties explain or comport with why the US Pentagon simultaneously requested the development and fielding of the enormously powerful 'MOAB', and other Fuel-Air-Explosive warheads and shells, that could flatten and burn large portions, or even all of a city, in minutes. How does this fit with the urban warfare paradigm? And how does an active arsenal of high-yield nuclear weapons fit with the urban warfare conception and low civilian casualties?

It doesn't.

It's all about destroying cities and mass-murdering the population, primarily via a combination of explosive shock waves and fire to ignite and burn the broken structures. Thus MOAB and FAEs in general, and high-yield nukes, are the perfect tools, if you think you might want to do this to cities.

That is the real logic of 'urban warfare'.

If there's a nuclear exchange they will not target ports, or airfields, or army bases, or weapon storage depots, or industrial estates, they'll target the CBD and the suburbs - FIRST - and then they'll target the military forces adn weapons systems. Because that's how militaries really think about how to kill an enemy. They know they can clean up the opposing military very easily, once the supporting population is all dead, or preferably dying slowly, in very large numbers. The more there is the more likely victory will follow. So the cities are toast in any real future urban warfare situation.

And if the US ever encounters serious armed resistance that's the first thing they'll do to eliminate effective resistance, but they'll have a tremendous psyop-capability all ready to go as well in the MSM, to make it seem as though it's something else that they're doing.

That's how it'll be done. We have seem much of these techniques used already. So don't ever wait for the military or some scummy-vermin like Obama to make 'peace in our time' for you, because he's not the slightest bit interested in peace, if it does not serve the strategic purpose or dominance intensions.

The fact that we STILL have large Dr Strangelove-yield overkill arsenals, within an age of long-range precision-delivery, where a bomb with literally 100th of the yield is more than adequate to achieve any valid military action, effect or purpose, tells you all you need to know about what the real intensions and methods are, and has been, and what they will be in this Pentagon-declared 21st-century age of 'urban-warfare'.

Which is why I said above that a lot more of it is still to come.

But in the interim, the govts and militaries and Lock-Mart sales clones will all go to great length to emphasise that their smaller less destructive new weapon, their SDB bombs and their hellfire missiles that only take out one room, or one building, is what will be used in all urban combat. But it's all baloney, that's just what they'll use on a small ineffective militia, which they themselves invented, armed, funded, trained and maintained in the field.

In any real urban fighting they'll use every weapon they've got and will destroy every building, kill every person still alive, wash-rinse-repeat. That's what the Pentagon plus European states have been prepping for. There's nothing they won't do, because they all know that you either win via any means available to you, and then re-write the history of it all to suit, or you end up branded war criminals and get hung or shot.

How you win is completely immaterial because you already know you're going to lie about it all to an unimaginable degree, and create a 'truth' you want. Plus you know more than enough fools will believe it, or dare not question it. Hence you may need a McCarthy-Era ideological puritanism to follow, to purge those who know it's all lies and bullshit by a bunch of rank mass-murderers.

Only now, like everything else, they don't even try to hide it, because investigation and punishment does not come for well-connected mass-murderers. Only the loser dies, so there's no incentive or future in using restraint.

The cities are going to be toast if we let the Generals, politicians, diplomats and the military industrial estate to call the shots about this stuff.

But that would be the very resistence they intend to eliminate ...

Churchill had to allow an enemy airstrike against Coventry, if my memory serves me right. The Allies had the German code machine, Ultra, and saw the orders for the attack. Preventing the attack would have raised German suspicions their code had been broken, so the PM had to allow the Krauts to attack.

I also think Kurt Vonnegut was at Dresden as a POW, but obviously survived.

Well done, Element. Some isolated anguish over the Dresden attack brought to light details of a pattern of RAF terror bombing under the Linderman plan first used in March, 1942.

Professor Frederick Linderman, scientific advisor to Churchill, reasoned that bombing German residential working-class areas and smaller cities would be easier to hit than military and industrial targets, would provide greater concentrations of death and destruction, wouldn’t be as dangerous to pilots and would help the population urge their leaders to surrender.

And “without the Americans,” i.e., FDR at Yalta alongside the man, Marshal Stalin, a major chunk of Eastern Europe would not have been doomed to despotic slavery, imprisoned behind an iron curtain for nearly half a century.

Each day arrives with a new lesson from our leaders on how to destroy innocent people.

Perhaps revisionist history has already cancelled out what the “greatest generation” in World War II learned about terror and government trust. Every word of the Associated Press reports in the war, for example, moved through U.S. government censors and direction… Thus the significance of AP’s coverage of the horrendous and relentless bombing of Dresden, Germany in February, 1945.

“This unprecedented assault in daylight on the refugee-crowded capital, fleeing from the Russian tide in the East,” the AP correspondent reported from Supreme Allied Headquarters in Paris, showed that “the long-awaited decision had been taken to adopt deliberate terror-bombing of German populated centres as a ruthless expedient to hasten Hitler’s doom.”

Note the objective of the Allies: “terror.”

The gloating in those words rings all through our era, from the unconcern for women and children burned in the streets of Dresden because they were Germans to the apathy concerning families slaughtered in the Middle East because they are Muslims

Now, the AP tells us the King of Terror – Osama bin Laden - is dead.

There’s hardly a contest between a man with a gun and a man without one. But when the man with the gun is in a helicopter gun ship or a B-52 bomber and the people without are the innocents below, somehow murder doesn’t quite cover the crime.

Bradley Manning has been sentenced to 35 years in prison by Judge Denise Lind for exposing American war crimes…

I’ll never hear Manning’s name again without the image of US pilots watching figures on the ground and guessing whether they are enemy or not. Not knowing if one of those on the ground has a gun, the response is “Light 'em all up” as the helicopter’s gun shoots the unknown victims on the ground.

If that doesn’t spell American Empire versus unknown potential enemies, innocent or not, I don’t know what does.

Manning leaked access to this information so the world could see it. As one source said:

“After a voice on the transmission urges the pilots to ‘light ’em all up’, the individuals on the street are shot by the gunship’s cannon.

“A few minutes later, a van whose occupants appear to be picking up a wounded person is fired on too.

“Two children were among the casualties.”

Manning’s revelations exposed “U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan; a secret deal David Petraeus struck with Yemen’s leader to hide American drone strikes; America’s blind eye to Iraqi security forces’ torture; pressure on European nations over prosecutions of U.S. officials for torture; spying on the United Nations; how the U.S. worked to blunt the effect of the Goldstone report, which documented Israeli war crimes during the assault on Gaza…

and much more.”

Aviation Week: RQ-180 UAS is the USAF new Stealth Drone

What do they have that we don't know about yet...hmmm?

This aircraft’s design is key for the shift of Air Force ISR assets away from “permissive” environments—such as Iraq and Afghanistan, where non-stealthy Northrop grumman Global Hawk and General Atomics’ Reaper operate — and toward operations in “contested” or “denied” airspace. The new UAS underpins the Air Force’s determination to retire a version of the RQ-4B Global Hawk after 2014, despite congressional resistance. The RQ-180 eclipses the smaller, less stealthy and shorter-range RQ-170 Sentinel. Read the exclusive report on Aviation Week website.

" ... RQ-4B Global Hawk after 2014 ..."

You can bet the 'retired' RQ-4s are being 'retired' to order for a pre-ordained reason, to give them to a certain country - for free - via declaring them 'surplus' to US requirement. They've done the very same thing with other basically brand new and recently fully-debugged high-performance aircraft types. Once they are surplus they are 'sold' at a tokenistic very low price.

As for UAVs or UCAVs optimized to enter and survive undetected in a 'highly-contested' airspace, Hezbollah has done that for years on a shoe-string budget. It doesn't require a massive new platform or budget. Like the RQ-170, this purported RQ-180 will be all about developing targets for making coordinated strategic attacks.

They should maybe call it the "Peaceful Drone".

RQ-4s were never supposed to enter contested airspace, they were implemented as long-range high altitude patrol and monitoring aircraft (particularly over oceans, see 'BAMS' - Broad Area Maritime Surveillance concept) that could 'ground-truth' any ill-defined remote contact made from other sensors, to determine their ID and nature, and monitor or else target-cue them for other aircraft to destroy, plus to continually collect electronic intelligence while doing this.

The RQ-170 and now 180 were designed to go in at much lower altitudes and get specific details and locations on targets - completely different roles.

Proposing to replace an RQ-4 with an RQ-180 is like proposing to replace a C-130 Specter with an F/A-18F. They do completely different jobs! But hey, these are both drones and both have an RQ in front of them, so they must be the same thing, right?

In other words, it's a bullshit excuse.

Re: your reference where are the hippies with their peace signs. a little history.  During the Vietnam war a percentage of the American people began to wake up and start asking questions about why so many American kids were coming home in a box.  Some even had balls enough to take to the streets with signs and get there heads bashed in and killed by jack booted thugs. Some even had a Mandella moment and blew some shit up (since it is a recent topic on these boards). All disconnected yet interconnected as this thing called "rights" movements were breaking out  all over the place.

Lo and behold after awhile some of the "right wing" (at that time) people who dissed the hippies began showing up with their own signs saying get the hell out of VIetnam.

Until this so called long haired hippie freak found himself standing next to regular everyday people standing united against a corrupt government war machine at some of the largest Washington protest ever assembled to that date.

End result, we got the fuck out of Vietnam. Yet to this day this country treats Vietnam vets like shit because thats what people do, treat those that fight for them like shit.

No great change has been made in this country without people having to go out in the streets and get beat or killed.

Actions truly do speak louder than cowardly words uttered behind an anonymous screen name.

Welcome to the internet, where little cowards can call themselves men.

Exactly.  Obama was supposed to be the exact opposite of Bush and his minions stressed that point in 2008.  For the last 5 years, the minions just keep saying, "well that's what George Bush did" but somehow still think that winning the elections in 2008 and 2012 were somehow victories.  For those of us with critical thinking skills, it is at times amusing and at times scary because the sheeple that are on the side of the victors don't see how nothing has changed and that the same policies continue.  Money for the banksters and industrial-military complex and of course red and blue politicians.

I am reminded of a line in The Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer.  It went something like this: The German Army is like and elephant.  The Russian Army is like ants.  We will kill millions of them but in time they will clean our bones.  Ladies and gentlemen we are kicking ant hills around the world and have been doing so for over a hundred years.  At this very moment some very smart totally dedicated people are trying to figure out a way to turn out the lights on this macabre charade.  One day they will succeed, and the central planners will never see it coming.

Karma is a relentless never forgiving bitch. All of us, even the unborn will pay for this travesty.

this "war" is the PTB's wet dream made real right?

they drone one or two or a dozen al ciada terrorists, kill two or three times as many civilians in the process and thereby give hundreds more the inspiration to join the ranks.

it's perfect, evil genius, a fake war that kills just enough to keep the "enemy" inspired and fighting but does not do enough damage to deplete them of men or resources or make the inevitable outcome of taking up arms so horrible that recruiting is severely limited or next to impossible.

just look at Afghanistan after 12 years of droning the local govt is negotiating with the taliban, not exactly a sing of an effective strategy is it? unless of course, the side doing the droning doesn't really want the war to end.

and there you have it, a self perpetuating, self sustaining war that could go on...well, forever. and all it costs is a few hell fire missiles and the occasional bad pub from smoking a whole family during their back yard BBQ to get one "high priority" target. so the drones make for good propaganda for the sheep at home whilst being an excellent recruiting tool for the enemies Washington needs to have.

win,win.

but for us here in the states? well that's the real prize for the PTB's isn't it, the real point and purpose of this whole "war on terror" fraud. if you think about it we have been living under a kind of emergency, wartime rule (patriot act) since 9/11 which has granted our central government extraordinary and seemingly ever expanding powers over all of us. of course they need this war to continue in order to continue the expansion of their power and the minimization and eventual elimination of the individuals power and right to self determination.

they need this so called war, at least for now, but the question is what nightmare awaits us all when they don't?

and here is the mandatory corresponding Orwell quote...

“Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know what no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.”
