70% Of Calfornia's Doctors Expected To Boycott Obamacare

Tyler Durden's picture

We need some recognition that we’re doing a service to the community. But we can’t do it for free. And we can’t do it at a loss. No other business would do that,” exclaims the president of the California Medical Association, as The Washington Examiner reports, independent insurance brokers estimate 70% of California's 104,000 licensed doctors are boycotting the exchange. “The Covered California board says we have plenty of doctors, and they allege they have 85 percent of doctors participating, but they’ve shown no numbers," and if a large number of doctors either balk at participating in the exchange or retire, the state’s medical system could be overwhelmed. “Enrollment doesn’t mean access, because there aren’t enough doctors to take the low rates of Medicaid,” warns one health director. “There aren’t enough primary care physicians, period.”

Via The Washington Examiner,

An estimated seven out of every 10 physicians in deep-blue California are rebelling against the state's Obamacare health insurance exchange and won't participate, the head of the state's largest medical association said.

“It doesn't surprise me that there's a high rate of nonparticipation,” said Dr. Richard Thorp, president of the California Medical Association.

California offers one of the lowest government reimbursement rates in the country -- 30 percent lower than federal Medicare payments. And reimbursement rates for some procedures are even lower.

“Some physicians have been put in the network and they were included basically without their permission,” Lisa Folberg said. She is a CMA’s vice president of medical and regulatory Policy.

“They may be listed as actually participating, but not of their own volition,”

This is a dirty little secret that is not really talked about as they promote Covered California,” Waters said. He called the exchange's doctors list a “shell game” because “the vast majority” of his doctors are not participating

“The Covered California board says we have plenty of doctors, and they allege they have 85 percent of doctors participating," notes Mazer. "But they’ve shown no numbers."

Enrollment doesn’t mean access, because there aren’t enough doctors to take the low rates of Medicaid,” he said. “There aren’t enough primary care physicians, period.”

Briscoe professed not to be surprised by the refusal of doctors to participate in Covered California. “It rings true. I’ve been kind of wondering in my head, ‘How are they offering such low premiums?’ ”

And as we wait for all the Rube Goldberg aspects of the technocratic "progressive" activism of ObamaCare to slap people out of their slumber...lets play ObamaCare, the board game!

"The game highlights actual taxes and penalties of Obamacare, and references specific sections of the law - along with funny exaggerated penalties. Being taxed out of existence has never been so much fun!

The game set consists of (1) 18”x18” Bi fold game board, (6) Player Tokens & Stands, (21) Obamacare Penalty Cards, (4) Private Industry Description cards, (5) Insurance Policy cards, (2) Dice and $5000.00 ObamaBucks play money."

I'm tired of my Sisyphean Life. There's no end in sight. I want to buy that game and shove it up someone's ass. It disheartens me even worse he may get off on that.

My GP at Kaiser's been getting fucked ever since this law passed.  Kaiser has him on call 24/7/365.  They own him.  No life.  He gets up at 5:00AM both weekends and weekdays and doesn't get to leave the hospital until 10 or 11 PM.  He's a serf, a slave.

After tapping my patellas with a rubber mallet, he told me he did the calculation and on an hourly basis he only makes $11 an hour.

He fucking despises Obama.

He's only 38 years old, just paid off his student debts and is already thinking of leaving the field.

mjk0259's picture

He's making a salary. The employer will try to minimize the salary. This happens in every field and was the experience of most doctors who have to work for a salary as a GP. It's when they have their own practice that they get rich. For that they have to work for someone who has one and eventually buy them out.

the "medical" community has now lost all control of their practice. I don't blame them for standing up. Like every other industry it has been taken over by gigantic criminals who bribe the politicians, destroy competition, and make a second rate even dangerous product.

This "scheme" is the bastardized version of something that comes from "the other side" proving both of these parties are worse than whores and will hurt their consitutents to make a buck

Shad_ow's picture

Thank you.  This is what most Americans do not realize.  The rates for medical care are blamed on the professionals who have given countless hours training and taken on huge debt to get to the point they can make a difference and a good living.  They are demonized for the corruption in politics and the lack of tort reform.

Are they all guiltless?  No, but as a whole, they have little control in this.

DaveyJones's picture

I just finished a strange criminal case that had a tremdous amount of brain injury and other severe conditions. It made for intesting issues when the cop jumped the client for little reason. Just about everyone in the industry, at least the honest ones, think it is quickly going down like everything else). They also think the exploding prices and poorer quality are a byproduct of corruption

Who is it that "bribed" the politicians to get what? Let me suggest this is primarily driven by leftist ideology and this is what you get.

If this was driven by leftist ideology, there would be exactly zero private insurance companies involved.

This is the equivelant of a horse designed by a left/right committee....and it looks like a camel.  It was put together by a bunch of corporatist sops masked as servants of the people.

And what, pray tell, does taking a test on the details of a document have to do with the entire philosophy & method behind the docs construct?

Keyser's picture

The only reason the US is not on a single payer system today is that it would require the dismantling of the entire health insurance industry as we know it. Along with the accompanied layoffs and unemployment, only making the employment situation worse, not better. Heaven help the US should it ever go single payer as the gubbamint will own it, lock, stock and barrel. Nuff said.

FreedomGuy's picture

It means I have have actually read large parts of it for actual implementation moron. Maybe you are an expert in metalurgy never having read a book? Perhaps you are qualified for brain surgery with no reading. Was that a serious comment?

Anyway, I will actually agree with the second part of your statement. The healthcare bill is a committee bill. It IS driven by an ideology but limited by what they thought they could pull off. So, it is a Frankenstein of a creature assembled from bits and parts of markets, government power and favors to certain groups...probably not the ones you think.  This Frankenstein will not live, though no matter what they try to do to it, I assure you. It is broken from the get-go. I cannot tell if it is broken by design or ignorance but I still assert ideology is behind it. Why else would you even try to take over healthcare in the first place?

11b40's picture

FreedomGuy writes, "Why else would you even try to take over healthcare in the first place?"

The use of the words "take over" implies an immediate bias toward the status quo, but the status quo has been on an unsustainable trend line for more than a decade.  The Medical/Industrial complex has been sucking up an ever larger portion of the GDP, and it has goten totally out of control.  The average consumer soon discovers how bad it is soon after needing it for anything serious.  Any small business is reminded how bad it is every year when their policy has to be renewed.  Any individual trying to find a decent, affordable policy on his own quickly finds out how bad it is.  Over 60% of all personal bankruptcies are directly related to medical issues, and in most of those cases, the people had what they thought were good policies.

You can see my opinion of tha actual legislation drafted above.  It sucks, but to question the very need for mandated reform of something that takes up such a big piece of the economy is to bury your head in the sand.

What your your 'solutions'?

FreedomGuy's picture

You think like a leftist. If you see a result you don't like you accuse then claim the right to take it over. Gas prices have doubled under Obama raising the percentage of GDP it is "sucking up". What controls are there? Should we take it over? Should we take over every industry sector that grows or doesn't do what we wish? Did you know the U.S. government itself is "sucking up" an ever larger percentage of GDP? Makes healthcare look like pikers. We should take control of that to get a decent affordable government. There is no particular specific reason to do a wholesale takeover of healthcare. I assert there is no Constitutional right to do that even though that is laughable these days.

Second, what evidence do you have that the government can and will actually improve things even if you agree it has a right to seize any industry it wishes? Would you agree that the early evidence is that they have royally screwed it up? I assert government does not know how to do anything. It has to learn how from the private sector. I also assert, by it's nature, government cannot do anything efficiently or effectively over time. Name any government programs that is doing well. Name anything the government delivers efficiently besides drone missiles and IRS audits.

My head is not in the sand. I work in healthcare, moron! That's why I take exams.

Let me meet you halfway on solutions. First, Americans make a choice on what they wish to spend money on. Over the last half century the things you can do to and for people in medicine has exploded, from MRI's to Viagra. These things did not exist at the beginning of my life. So, there is more to buy in medicine at any price. Second, America is aging and fat. You are going to spend more GDP with those two things alone. It doesn't matter if all meds are generic and a doctor's trip cost less than a meal. Lots more people will need lots more care and therapy. That is part of your GDP problem. Third, the government raises prices because of many many rules. Everything from the long expensive training needed for doctors to medicine regulation and limitation to liability costs to a third party payor system all raise expenditures. THIS is where government review and intervention is appropriate. Government should look and say "Where do we affect the current situation negatively?" and intervene at those points.

Simple, quick and cheap things would be to make insurance and medical expenditures tax deductible to individuals so we can all buy our own. You could also buy riders like guaranteed insurability similar to life insurance. You could never ever be dropped for any condition, then. Simple, yes! Will it be done? Hell no. No control in that. How much legal/tort reform was in the 2000 page bill? Answer: none, zippo, null set! How is that possible?

The bankruptcy thing is a false stat. Ask yourself this. What is the single biggest expenditure in the lives of all productive people? Hint: It is not medical care or anything in the private market.

In this country we have got to quit be suckered into thinking that the people who actually bring you a product or service or the evil people or problem. It is a sucker play for those who desire power. The Medical/Industrial complex???? Hahaha. That is a good joke. Many parts of it are at odds with each other. There is no central committee for central control of medicine. You have been on leftist sites with those terms.

"Few men have virtue to withstand the highest bidder."

It is very simple, the Debt Money Tyrant class, defined money as interest bearing debt in order to systematically and covertly asset strip society.

George Carlin referred to this class as The Owners.

They have always existed and still exist today.  Read a history book and look deeper than "great empire."  Great empire means The Owners enslaved the hell out of everyone and went rampaging raping and pillaging to get more territory.  They never quite make that clear in a way that the students will look for their version of The Owners, though.

Debt Money Tyranny works like this...  PDF contains graphical money flow that shows society outside the Debt Money Tyrants never have enough money to pay back their debts.

Debt Money Tyranny

In addition, these criminals have inserted themselves into the Federal Reserve where they get to trade on insider information all the day long and right in your peasant face.

The process works like this...

The Debt Money Tyrants have the vast majority of the money.  They don't all have to like each other, just like dueling Vice Presidents in a company might not like each other but, like the VPs, THEY WILL WORK TOGETHER TOWARDS THE GREATER GOAL.  If your imagination is stunted and can't fathom it, well, reality isn't circumscribed by your stunted imagination.

"The individual is handicapped by coming face-to-face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists. The American mind simply has not come to a realization of the evil which has been
introduced into our midst. It rejects even the assumption that human creatures could espouse a philosophy which must ultimately destroy all that is good and decent."
~J. Edgar Hoover, The Elks Magazine (August 1956)

They've used this Money Power to put in place economic incentives throughout society.  Government is not excluded.  In fact, it is a priority, as is the media and every major establishment organization.  Schooling, medicine, you name it.

While the Rockefeller family leaders are in on it, they are not the the totality of it.  They work with others to achieve their objectives.

Rockefellers were directly involved in directing the debt based monetary fraud system, the conversion of eduction to schooling (1) and the promotion of allopathic medicine, an approach that Rockefeller, the Rothschild financiers and the royalty of Europe all REJECTED (2).  They relaized they didn't have to spend all the money, they just had to outspend the 2nd place bidder, then they could leverage that control into using tax payer monety to help impose their private agenda on America and the world.

And ignorant boobs think these people are dumb, not knowing that they've been duped into financing their debt enslavement with their own money...  pretending to be dumb is a Sun Tzu, Art of War tactic to used to fulfill the strategy of destroying your enemy through deception WITHOUT EVER HAVING TO PHSYCIALLY FIGHT ONESELF (read the book)!

What does one need in order to get elected in the first place?

Money, the more the better.  Media attention, the more the better.

GUESS WHO FINANCES THE MEDIA?  Guess why Ron Paul gets bad press?  The feable minded have been duped into believing this is conspiracy theory.  A dumber than door nails dog knows better - you don't bite the hand that feeds you.  IT IS MICROECONOMICS!  If you are a reporter, you aren't going to get a story that destoys the station's financiers past the editors and, if you do, you know you will get fired for airing it.  Cenk got canned.  Judge Nap got canned from his own show.  Dylan Ratigan got canned from his lead position on Fast Money within a week of saying Banksters committed fraud and need to go to jail.  You are paying attention, right?

The Rockefeller Class people went after the media before most people alive today were ever born.

"...the J.P. Morgan [banking] interests.... and their subsidiary organizations got together 12 men high up in the newspaper world and employed them to select the most influential newspapers in the United States and sufficient number of them to control generally the policy of the daily press of the US.... They found it was only necessary to purchase the control of 25 of the greatest papers. ...an editor was furnished for each paper to properly supervise and edit information...."
--Congressman Oscar Callaway statements were included in the Congressional Record (vol. 54, February 9, 1917, p. 2947)

The point is the media is controlled and so is the debt money system.  Politicians aren't so much as bribed, but they are financed and promoted into office by WHO?

The people with the most money and who finance and control the major media outlets.  WHO is that?  "The Owners."

Now, if you were them, would you finance and promote people who were out to do violence to your agenda?

Are you dumber than door nails?  No, you aren't, so you wouldn't  Neither are these folks.  It isn't that "blank slates" are elected then bribed, IT IS THAT COLD BLOODED OWNER CLASS OPERATIVES ARE PUT INTO POSITIONS OF POWER AND THEN DROP SOME KABUKI THEATER ON THE IGNORATI.

I call this crowd Biggest Finance Capital.  Research WHO is at the very TOP of the MONETARY SYSTEM.  By that, I mean control, not the spokes hole front man (Greenspan and Bernanke) that they put in front of you to take the heat off themselves (3).  They learned from the French Revolution, if you know what I mean.  Too bad the Ignorati has not.

(1) "We want one class of persons to have a liberal education, and we want another class of persons, a very much larger class, of necessity, in every society, to forego the privileges of a liberal education and fit themselves to perform specific difficult manual tasks."
~Woodrow Wilson

(2) Rockefeller Medicine Men

Rockefeller Medicine Men (James Corbett)

"Despite his personal preference for homeopathy (REJECTING what he created for you!), Rockefeller, on Gates's advice, became one of the first great benefactors of medical science."

"In 2002, de Rothschild studied at the College of Naturopathic Medicine, London where he received an advanced Diploma in Natural Medicine, ND"

"In 2001 he bought a 1,100 acre organic farm in New Zealand"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Mayer_de_Rothschild

Got that?  I highly recommend you spend some time reviewing the following resources:

In addition to these pragmatic goals, the powers of financial capitalism (The Owners) had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences. The apex of the system was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basle, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank, in the hands of men like Montagu Norman of the Bank of England, Benjamin Strong of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, Charles Rist of the Bank of France, and Hjalmar Schacht of the Reichsbank, sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world.

I met a guy on holidays some 15 years ago who had switched from aerospace to medicine.  I said, that's quite the career change, isn't it?  Not really, was his reply. It's all applied science.  He was practicing in Caifornia at the time.  Bet he's gone back to aerospace, or on to some new challenge.  That was his thing - he liked challenges - but not the kind this sick-care system throws at you.

No doubt there's lots of doctors, especially young ones, considering a career change because of all this, and the kicker is, it won't be that hard to switch.  As my friend said, it's all applied science, and if you've got a PhD on your resume, you're better than half-way to whatever comes next.

Or you could just move to another country. Not that difficult with a degree in medicine.

All Risk No Reward's picture

More like "misapplied science" in many cases.

A major part of medicine is controlled by those who finance Big Pharma and their corporate mandate is to maximize profits.

What do you think happens to science that minimizes their profits?

Let me put it this way, The Rockefellers, the Rothschilds, the royalty are all into homeopathic and naturopathic medicine and eating organic food.

They have the science, but their money makes sure you don't get it.

If you can't prove it with cited data and logic that assembles the data in non contradictory way while not relying on logical fallacy(ies), you don't know it.

If it was applied science, we'd see science to back it up, but we don't.  No randomized double blind placebo study to prove ingested fluoride is effective atreduyciing tooth decay in 60 frackin' years?  That's the FIRST THING ONE WOULD DO IN A SCIENCE BASED SYSTEM!  The doctors are indoctrinated, but their pants come off when you actually require them to provide the data and logic to back up their Rockefeller (the guy bankrupting you through fraud debt money, BTW - oh, to be ignorant!) financed false narrative.

If doctors are so mad they would be at the throats of insurers and big pharma, the authors and benefactors of expensive medicine.   They are not in the least bit.  Doctors and the AMA restricting the number of physicians are just as in bed with the racket of medicine as everyone else.

Has anyone seen a hospital NOT building a new wing or expanding the last few years?

Eugene9876's picture

Doctors and hospitals paid on completely separate fee schedules, and with different parts of Medicare. Saying that hospitals are building new wings and the physicians are in cahoots (I assure you they are not) is like saying there are new McDonald franchises so the fast food workers must be getting paid bundles.

capitallosses's picture

I have first hand knowledge that KP is pushing their GPs harder and harder, making their lives quite miserable. Yes, they earn pretty good salaries, but nothing extraordinary and not what they should after the extraordinary investment and sacrifice they made in their education. It can only continue to get worse, and the increasing pressures combined with likely lower pay is going to just break the system.

vanityvanity's picture

Hospitals are going tango uniform left and right, at least in our state.

Medicine is too expensive because fees are set by third parties so Dr. Awesome gets the same fee as Dr. Awful. And patients don't really care how much that unnecessary test is because they are completely covered or have an insignificant copay.

Barack Obama isn't the worse thing to happen to medicine. WWII wage controls and LBJ birthed this beast.

I am in a business where we design hospitals. The big systems are getting bigger and buying up smaller hospitals and they are all lining up to compete in a much bigger way with each other. Much like CVS and Rite Aid on every corner. I see it as a lot of malinvestment. We just got paid money to study the upgrade and expansion to a county hospital that is half empty. They think they need to spend the money to keep from losing patients and going out of business.

The Vetrans Administration is spending a shit load of our money right now building and renovating. Not sure why they don't send many of their people to non-gov hospitals instead of building today stuff that won't be needed tomorrow.
