70% Of Calfornia's Doctors Expected To Boycott Obamacare

Tyler Durden's picture

We need some recognition that we’re doing a service to the community. But we can’t do it for free. And we can’t do it at a loss. No other business would do that,” exclaims the president of the California Medical Association, as The Washington Examiner reports, independent insurance brokers estimate 70% of California's 104,000 licensed doctors are boycotting the exchange. “The Covered California board says we have plenty of doctors, and they allege they have 85 percent of doctors participating, but they’ve shown no numbers," and if a large number of doctors either balk at participating in the exchange or retire, the state’s medical system could be overwhelmed. “Enrollment doesn’t mean access, because there aren’t enough doctors to take the low rates of Medicaid,” warns one health director. “There aren’t enough primary care physicians, period.”

Via The Washington Examiner,

An estimated seven out of every 10 physicians in deep-blue California are rebelling against the state's Obamacare health insurance exchange and won't participate, the head of the state's largest medical association said.

“It doesn't surprise me that there's a high rate of nonparticipation,” said Dr. Richard Thorp, president of the California Medical Association.

...

California offers one of the lowest government reimbursement rates in the country -- 30 percent lower than federal Medicare payments. And reimbursement rates for some procedures are even lower.

...

“Some physicians have been put in the network and they were included basically without their permission,” Lisa Folberg said. She is a CMA’s vice president of medical and regulatory Policy.

“They may be listed as actually participating, but not of their own volition,”

...

This is a dirty little secret that is not really talked about as they promote Covered California,” Waters said. He called the exchange's doctors list a “shell game” because “the vast majority” of his doctors are not participating

...

“The Covered California board says we have plenty of doctors, and they allege they have 85 percent of doctors participating," notes Mazer. "But they’ve shown no numbers."

...

Enrollment doesn’t mean access, because there aren’t enough doctors to take the low rates of Medicaid,” he said. “There aren’t enough primary care physicians, period.”

...

Briscoe professed not to be surprised by the refusal of doctors to participate in Covered California. “It rings true. I’ve been kind of wondering in my head, ‘How are they offering such low premiums?’ ”

Good. Most of these people have absolutely no other skills in life. No surprise that con artists always target doctors because they are easy marks. When you stop holding your breath Mr. Doctor, enjoy the new job as a WalMart greeter.

Have you checked out your latest health coverage statement , yet? How much did it increase? And what do you think it will set you back next year and year after that...? I´m amazed that you don´t realize that insurance is one thing - a rather simple mechanism to basically distribute risk. Now it so much more. A money-spinner for insurance companies and since a couple of months it´s also a tool for redistributing wealth. Basically you will be paying other people to vote for the Dem´s and Obama by paying for a (big) part of their health care cost. Your money will ensure a big turn-out by the free-shit-brigade at next election looking for you to pick up more of the slack. That´s socialism for you.

Bangin7GramRocks's picture

Health insurance has always been about socialism. I have been fortunate to always have good insurance, but I only went to a doctor once in 15 years! Why didn't I get a rebate? Because my good health paid for the unhealthy people on the same corporate policy. What has changed?

disabledvet's picture

health care is about seeing a doctor and being cared for. it's as simple as that. I'd be dead many times over if I did 't have "socialized medicine" (meaning a doctor on the payroll of the Government.) they've made me feel sick, they've made me feel good. they've put the bones back where they're supposed to be, stitched me up when I was bleeding every where, pulled the bullets out of me, told me I was fine and "get back in there." all I can say is don't ever go to an American hospital..they simply electrocute you for the fun of it while the police watch and laugh. and now they have the ACA! hahahahahahahababahahahahahahaha. all this for speculating in land you say! you should see the debt markets! hahahahahahahababahahahahaha. I've been working on a statue of Ben Bernanke that when finished I hope to be over 800 feet high...something to tower over the local State Office Building which has been vacant since the day it was built but still burns electricity like a cross at a clan convention. just trying to send a message as to "who really means business in these here parts" and everywhere else it would seem. you want me to feel sorry that someone mismanaged your pension fund and forgot to tell the taxpayer? "talk to the Sphinxer" bitch. "boy has he got a deal you can't refuse"!

Health insurance in the US was a capitalist construct devised to compensate and retain good employees as the result of Gov control of wages in the 1940s. In the 1960s the Gov implemented some socialized medicine that has mushroomed into a market-distorting behemoth. Now we have the leviathan of ACA that will crush us.

I think true health insurance is a great concept, but it is now illegal it seems with the advent of ACA. Have everyone pay for their own care and if you like, buy a policy to cover catastrophe. Healthcare would get much cheaper if we wen back to this model.

How many enormous blobs are driven by taxi to get dialysis only to go back to their section 8 housing to eat junk and watch trash tv all day all at our cost? This is the end my friend.

The doctors that I know are among the smartest and most competent people. They will have no trouble. You sir are an ignoramus.

ImReady's picture

100% spot on. I am met with blank stares when I bring this up to friends and family members. I own a successful sm business for 22 yrs now and we are less successful every day due to excessive govt regulation(violence). If I didn't have mouths to feed I would say fuck it and close the doors...

FreedomGuy's picture

The private sector is completely dominated by government. Name anything of importance that can be done without government approval and supervision. There is nothing and the lemmings are led off the cliff with terms like, "hope, change, fairness, compassion and equality". Autocracy is poison coated in chocolate.

FreedomGuy's picture

This is what happens when you introduce force and coercion into an economic system. It is the example of a takeover (by force of law) of a huge part of an economy by people who actually do not understand how it works and have an agenda which includes punishing parts of the system. This is central planning at its finest by actual fools who do not have expertise in any part of the system and actually instinctively reject advice from people who work in those areas as "biased" and evil.

I suggest that the government take over all energy production and avoid all biased advice from people who actually know how to find, transport and produce energy. This should be followed by a takeover of all banks and financial institutions while refusing all input from anyone in banking and finance. Next, I think food production as a necessity for human existence should be taken over and please do not listen to farmers, and those involved in producing, transporting and storing food.

And finally make sure no one prospers from producing healthcare, energy, finance or food. Profit is evil and represents wasted resources than only accrue to the rich. Let the superior intellects and moral agents of government run all this more perfectly and efficiently.

Welcome to the USSA. Let us march together toward our happy future, comrades.

Excellent comment. +1  Communism, socialism, and fascism all rolled into one.  I think the way the USSA is going would make Stalin and Mao blush.

It's called "Statism" Toxicosis! Communism, socialism, and fascism...collectivism, welfareism, commuanterianism...It all means the same thing, that government is a legalized criminal that desires to hold power over the individual and will always use force over it's defenseless victims. Your seeing it in Obamacare and the multitude of bureaucracies. It's end result is always evenutal dictatorship and destruction.

You are correct sir, my lack of keeping up with the ism's is now noted.

The thought they already took over banking or was it banking with their Al See Eye Aaa elites and the europoean banksters tribal families took over the govt (a long time ago-around the Civil War).

See every president killed due to central banking and their threats against fiat money.  This included President McKinley as he was for bimetalism i.e. backing money with gold and silver.

Poppy tried to even whack the actor because he was not a Bonz man Foggy Bootom/Langlee boy.

Colonel Walter,

Before you surrender, I suggest you read an accurate description of our first Thanksgiving. If you want to starve the community then adopt socialism as your makeshift government. I ache for the lack of knowlege about our history so many don't know.

My capitalist father whom I adored, told me before he died, that if Obamacare passes it will be the one of the last nails in the coffin for America, unless completely repealed!

Colonel Walter E Kurtz's picture

GRUNT

Right there with you. Not going to surrender, just reminded me of how a crisis would hit every time it came to harvest the collectives crops!

John_Coltrane's picture

Great Post.  How soon people forget that the Soviet Union couldn't feed itself using its collective farms and 5 year plans.  If I recall over 50% of all the food production in the USSR was produced by the 1% of the land allowed to be held privately.

In the case of medicine, the future is concierge care with direct, cash payment to the doctors providing the service.  Doctors are pulling a Galt.  Supply and demand are such a bitch for central control freaks.

G-R-U-N-T's picture

Indeed Mr. Coltrane, your observation is dead on!

Pass the popcorn. This will be epic.

Arbysauce...I get the feeling that we're not gonna be munching popcorn while watching the revolution from our warm and cozy quarters when something this "epic" ignites.   Revolution in America will be nasty, brutal, ugly and not short.

Dems will be caving as fast as they can or they will be gone. Obama will de facto cave at last I think. I'd rather do pay-as-you-go health care so this will save me money by driving more doctors to supply that service. More real small-gov types will get into congress. If we're lucky we'll end up in a better place than we started due to this undeniable lesson in reality being hammered into the thick skulls of the hope n change types. The fools-and-knaves party will lose some of their fools. Optimistic? Ya I guess that is. Obama is still a wild card, and there is still a big world beyond our shores.

FreedomGuy's picture

Honest to God, if it comes to that and those allied for Liberty I want exhile and forever ban the collectivists. At 18 you can choose to be citizen of a libertarian state. If you don't like it you are free to leave and live anywhere you please in the rest of the centrally planned world. Help at least one of them make it work over time. There will be plenty of room in those countries, too. All their self sufficient productive members will be flooding the borders to get IN.

pipes's picture

Silly doctors. They think they will have a choice when the time comes.

ILLILLILLI's picture

Oh, don't worry. They'll come around.

All that is necessary is to have some Vitamin Pb applied extrajudicially behind one ear or the other to a few of the recalcitrant doctors.

The rest will come around...

Calmyourself's picture

That would cause overdoses of PB all over the place and no one wants that..

Freddie's picture

The doctors will get with the Kennedy boys gave Marilyn - a barbiturate enema.

Oh and wait til they have SEIU, La Raza, othe runionize and new black panther nurses and other helpers in their medical practice.  Well they will be running their medical practice.  Well I am sure most of those tribe doctors and their relatives in Calif voted for this.

But socialism's price and wage controls worked so well under the Dickie Nixon regime.  How can they not work now?  Especially with our "most omnipotent one", setting the insurance actuaries straight once and for all.  The docs just don't know how good they have it.

BanksterSlayer's picture

So has ObamaCare become somthing like a farm subsidy? Are we paying doctors to NOT practice medicine?

Toxicosis's picture

Yes, that would be correct sir.  Remember a sure fire way to wipe out much of the middle class is to deprive them of the greatest dependency we have created in the last 60 years, modern medicine.  We addict them, tell them all that their too stupid to look after themselves, leave it all up to us doctors, and drug em like farm animals.  Doctors will quit in droves rather than be a slave to a political fascist system which requires them to work as slave labourers.  Thus many people will panic, many people will die, and untold suffering all mental, emotional and physical will result.  Control freaks and greedy prickish assholes run the 'governments' and corporations as a whole, and thus the frog boils a little hotter every day.

Calmyourself's picture

B.S. they will open the borders and offer incentives for Pakistani, Kenyan and Nigerian doctors to head on over even give free remedial engrish courses.  My prediction: 6-12 months Bamster announces special immigration rights for medical personnel, its only fair..

Toxicosis's picture

And what, all these foreign doctors will accept paltry compensation for their work and live where?  The cost of living is up everywhere, eventually nobody wants to work for nothing.

Non Passaran's picture

They could employ people who aren't doctors and don't speak a word of English, I am quite sure those would be cheap.
