Riots Break Out In Singapore; Think Your Country Is Immune?

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Simon Black of Sovereign Man blog,

Mohamed Bouazizi. It’s not a name that means much to most people. But you’ll recall his story.

Frustrated with the absurd amount of regulation and corruption that prevented him from being able to put food on the table for his family, Bouazizi was the 26-year old Tunisian fruit merchant that set himself on fire in 2011.

In doing so, all the pent up frustration across the Middle East and North Africa erupted all at once; the entire region immediately plunged into multi-year revolution which became known as the Arab Spring that has since toppled a number of governments.

Like individual people, societies have their own breaking points. They build up anger and frustration for years… sometimes decades. Then all it takes is one spark. One catalyst. And it all becomes unglued.

Just yesterday, a 33-year old Indian man got hit by the proverbial bus in Singapore’s Little India neighborhood. That was the catalyst. What transpired for the next several hours was a full blown riot… the first of its kind since 1969.

Several hundred rioters stormed the streets. They started off smashing the up the bus that was still on the corner of Hampshire Road and Race Course Road. Then they started throwing objects at the ambulance staff who were unsuccessful in extracting the man in time to save his life.

By the end of the evening, an angry mob had lit five police vehicles on fire, plus the ambulance, leaving the streets in a towering inferno.

The government immediately went into damage control mode trying to explain what happened. But the explanation is really quite simple.

Singapore has had years of tensions building. The wealth gap is growing like crazy. Wealthy people are becoming ultra-wealthy, while the majority of folks see the cost of living rise at an alarming rate.

Strong ideological and ethnic differences are boiling over. And backlash against immigrants, especially from certain countries, is becoming an acute and obvious problem.

These issues are commonplace. Ideological differences. The wealth gap and economic uncertainty. Immigration challenges.

They’re the same issues, for example, that have plunged much of Europe into turmoil, including the rise of a blatantly fascist political party in Greece.

And these same issues exist, in abundance, in the Land of the Free… where a number of serious ideological divides are becoming obvious social chasms.

Printing money with wanton abandon. Racking up the greatest debt burden in the history of the world. Doling out wasteful and offensively incompetent social welfare programs at the expense of the middle class. Brazenly spying on your own citizens. These are not actions without consequences.

And if it can happen in Singapore - one of the safest, most stable countries on the planet, it can happen anywhere. Even in a sterile American suburb.

This was a lousy article was typical of the crappy op-eds 'Simon Black' posts on here.  It provides little/no context or insite but instead it is a 'look shiny!' type article designed to drive hits.

Some of the Tyler articles are still worth reading but a high percentage of the op-eds are simply a waste and not much better than stuff on Buzzfeed.

I lived in Singapore.

let's get some facts straight.

singapore is not the safe peaceful utopia the article implies. it is safe because of the very strong arm if the law -not inherently safe, out of cultural values, but actively managed to be so. the state does a sterling job in promoting diversity, while keeping a sense of structure and cohesion, but this requires the constant reminder of force or use of force. nowhere else in the world do you have more than 3 significantly representative ethnicties coexsting with so few hiccups.

this has nothing to do with immigration. the majority of crowds in little india are diaspora migrant construction workers, imported temporarily under nigh exploitative conditions, with no chance of ever integrating into the country. so it's the opposite of immigration: it's the consequence of heavily protectionist policies with respect to certain cheap labour markets. SG does encourage immigration, though only for educated and skilled professionals. imho they have been turning a blind eye to the plight of the manual labourer underclass, and the state is now reaping what it sowed.  however, if any state can be said to be pragmatic and reactive, SG is it. they can still turn this around.

Utterly stupid, condescending bullshit.

Always interesting to note how such events make headlines, while the 30 or 50 killed every other day in Iraq (to use just one example) barely makes it into print.

Those 7-11's that the blacks were trashing were all they had in the world.  That was their fathers and grandfathers at the doors getting beaten up.  They were loaded for bear.  The police responded within hours.

We should all be as prepared as those guys were.

That man laying by the semi was driving while white, in the wrong place at the wrong time.  4-5 apes pulled him from the cab and beat him up and left him laying there.  One guy ran back and kicked him in the head.  He lost an eye.

1968 I was 13.  Folks owned one car and dad worked down in the "inner city" back then as a machinist.  The "natives" were stopping cars at intersections and cutting off womens fingers for wedding rings and other frivolities too numerous to mention.   7 kids in the family and one car so as dad worked second shift if mom wanted the car I got to ride shotgun.  Literally.  Had a 357 in the glove box and I knew how to use it.  Dad's intructions to me was if they walk up to the car and touch the handle,,, two in the chest.  No waiting until they broke windows or got the doors open if we were stuck at a corner.  We have had riots before and may have again.  I didn't have to ever do it but I remember the smells of burning cars and buildings and the men with rifles on the roof of dad's factories.  Sobering for a teenager to be sure.  History can and does repeat itself.

It is different now.

Blacks and whites live together in harmony.

The President of the United States is of mixed race.

Your father would go to jail for his behavior.

There are no more factories where machinists work in the inner city.

Married couples have at least two car payments, and one or no children, not seven.

Simon Black must be a very confused fella'...or a coward trying to please all "sides" (especially some wealthy patron?):

He states:

"Wealthy people are becoming ultra-wealthy, while the majority of folks see the cost of living rise at an alarming rate."

---but then prints in BOLD an attack on modern welfare policies---

"Doling out wasteful and offensively incompetent social welfare programs at the expense of the middle class. "

Simon, what middle class?  That middle class, such as it now is, is being throttled by the same grotesquely greedy wealthy folks who want to end the "welfare state".   You can't have it both ways, Simon.  Pick a side and stick to it please.

Hedgeless,  loved the rabbit pictures though they appeared domesticated variety.  I grew up in Michigan and we always had a pair of beagles for chasing rabbits.  I guess the part about no inner city factories employing dad anymore is true.  He came home from work the day the riots started as we didn't live with the rich folks and loaded the M1 Garand with armor piercing rounds still available back then and sat on the front porch.  I remember the neighbor lady giving him hell about the gun and he said he would let them start her house on fire so she wouldn't feel left out but they wouldnt set foot on our property.  I was thinking of posting a pick of my 8 point buck hanging in the shed in honor of your dead rabbits but didn't think I could post a pic here.  I love to cook as do you as well.  Made a living doing it for a few decades.  Good day to you.

Thinking that the wealth dialectic is just one of many intentionally created to keep people from joining together. The fiat wealthy, like to think of themselves as "elite", which separates them from the rest of humanity, most of which are better people than the elitists and many who are more talented and capable.

When fiat dollars are the only thing that separates you from someone unemployed and homeless on the street, it is a pretty sad comment on how well people have fallen for the cruel dialectic manipulation.

The epitome of stupid is as stupid does IS the lame stream media fools that still feed the executioner and carries its water and will most likely do so until the very day he takes off their heads. All traitors to the USA that have traditionally lied and disinformed the people will be eliminated by the new bankster communist/socialist/nazi/fascist totalitarian babylonian govt BEFORE they lock down the country to go after and make war on the American people.

There is only one thing that will save America and the world: TRUTH!!!!

Speak ye now your truth, or forever regret it lifetime after life time. It is NOT to late to save the ship, IF good men take off their panty lace and DO the right thing to STOP this insanity and world crash that is around the corner after something happens to take the attention off the crimes, cover-ups, and corruptions that have infested every living being on the planet. All souls have to realize, these things have declared WAR on every single one on board. It is all for one, and one for all against these things that have long to long run this planet into the rocks. It is only a matter of time until you who may think you are part of this evil that seems to be running full speed into the rocks of doom and disaster, are also killed off by the beast that seeks to kill off every single living being on the planet. Read that again and get it down pact. As long as this evil exists on this planet, there will be no other recourse. The snake of wickedness and destructive energy will eventually get to you all. One way or another until it is stopped and eliminated off the face of the earth. Sounds like tuff love, but what they say about the people of the earth is a lot worse.

Only those zionazis use false flag events on holidays to cause the changes the baboon banksters want for more profiteering. Will there be a false flag event on Christmas? Or before? Or even on New Years Day? Lets all hope not.

Maybe the day will come when the greater minds and hearts all gather together as the ONE they all are and DO the right thing to STOP THIS INSANITY! How about spending all those trillions of developing everything that is good for people, and the planet instead of focusing the entire economic machine on warmongering and the pillaging of the world's peoples so as to dominate them using the evil of the money-god?

Peace, prosperity, beauty, abundance to share. THESE...are not just concepts!

Whoa whoa whoa stop.

The rioters were exclusively Bangladeshi migrant workers, not local Singaporeans. They're paid like s***, yes, but they are not in any position to be uprising and taking over anyone. That wouldn't constitute a coup, that's basically Bangladesh invading Singapore. That's like Mexican migrant workers rioting in California and you saying "They're unhappy about the wealth inequality! Good on them for taking on The Man! I'd love to see them in charge here!"

The Bangla were unhappy because a Chinese dude accidentally hit one of them with a bus. it happens, because in Little India everyone crowds the damn road like they own the place, because that's what they do at home. After the accident, they were upset (naturally), so they mobbed the bus. Not unusual, that's what they do at home.

This is hardly an example of the downtrodden underdog rising up and fighting the evil oppressors. The Bangla are here to be paid more than they are at home and to learn skills other than sewing in a sweatshop. Singaporeans employ them because Singaporeans hate outdoor jobs that involve heavy lifting. This is not Qatar. The Bangla are not slaves, they are visitors, and they may go home any time that they want. If they want to blow some s*** up, they are welcome to go home and do it.
