The Uncomfortable Truth Of A New Normal America (In One Cartoon)
Despite the ongoing declarations by Wall Street's strategists and Washington's leaders that recovery is here (or just around the corner), record numbers of Americans in poverty and government handouts suggest otherwise. However, the insidious chipping away at the possibility of the American Dream has been replaced by an IPO-chasing, zero-interest-income-earning, yield-reaching, insider-trading, 'dance-while-the-music-is-playing', beggars can be choosers, get-rich-quick-scheme nation of takers (and entitled-ers)...

Our economic system should meet our general expectations, shouldn't it? And since we are a Republic, shouldn't we make modifications to the economic system so we achieve our expectations? The very wealthy are doing so right now...so why don't we "regular folks" grab the rudder? So, I ask you this. "What are your core expectations from our economic system?" Here I present my own general suggestions:
1) Improved standard of living every year (on average).
2) A better future for our children than for our own generation.
3) Sustainable growth (a system that acknowledges the limitations both financial and environmental)
4) Fairness: Hard work and ingenuity should be rewarded more than sloth, luck, and class status
Let's hear your own wish list for macroeconomic outcomes and related social results.
(Yes, yes...some of you still believe in the tooth fairy and "pure" free market miracles. To you I recommend "Buy Gold!" and BTATFH. For the rest of you with a sense of history let's hear some other expectations you have that would win your "Loyalty" to an economic system.)
unless they bummed it, im always skeptical of giving money to beggars smoking very expensive cigarettes (yes i buy $10 homeless food bags at Safeway, and give those selling the REAL CHANGE newspaper-(who with tips, probably do quite well)
