Canada Supports Life, Liberty And The Pursuit Of... Prostitution

Tyler Durden's picture

34 years after Canada's Supreme Court upheld the country's anti-prositution laws, the highest court has struck down the nation's three prosititution-related laws in their entirety in a unanimous 9-0 ruling. Following the US' demand for minimum wage for strippers, AP reports Canada's ruling is a victory for sex workers seeking safer working conditions because it found the laws violated the charter guarantee to life, liberty, and security of the prison.

Via AP,

Canada's highest court has struck down the country's prostitution laws in their entirety in a unanimous 9-0 ruling.

The high court on Friday struck down all three prostitution-related laws: against keeping a brothel, living on the avails of prostitution, and street soliciting.

The ruling is a victory for sex workers seeking safer working conditions because it found that the laws violated the charter guarantee to life, liberty and security of the person.

But the Supreme Court of Canada decision also gives Parliament a one-year reprieve to respond with new legislation.

Ontario's Appeal Court previously struck down the ban on brothels on the grounds it exposed women to more danger.

Friday's landmark ruling comes 34 years after the Supreme Court last upheld the country's anti-prostitution laws.

Let consenting adults do whatever the fuck they want behind closed doors. Get the damn government out of the bedroom.

Good for you, Canada!

But watch closely now. Any day now the conservatives will come back with the standard bullshit arguments: "All prostitution abuses women", "it opens the door for underage prostitution", "these women are trafficked", etc.

Meanwhile your socks were sewn by a 14 year old in a sweat shop in Sri Lanka, your tuna was caught by a 40 year old Burmese slave on a fishing boat, your fruit was picked by an illegal immigrant who lives in a basement with 50 others and your chocolate comes from coca beans picked by a 10 year old girl in Ivory Coast who is chained to her basket. ...But sex work in some Toronto suburb is apparently the root of all evil.

Also, as a virtual Canadian I can tell you that Canadian women are very much frigid (likely from being bundled in parkas for much of the year).

And thus spreads the contagion of European sterility on both a cultural and psycho-somatic level.  The vice of prostitution is not in its being contrary to moral abstractions and so forth, it is that it short circuits the libido before it reaches the critical frustration point required for groups of economically-challenged males to spontaneously coalesce into rebellious mobs that align, protest, strike, riot, revolt, lynch, i.e. do the things that really bring about social change.  It is a video game for the testicles, an artificial flavor, a sensation that mimics the biological tradeoff of reproduction for wealth.  That is the sin, as not all acts of pure lust are net abusive.  This basically creates a free trade zone for the northeast and border cities, as well as Englanders who can pay the airfare to barter in their native tongue.

You think married women don't pay for it?  Almost all the married women I know work a full-time job and then come home and start in on the household treadmill.

If you want to live well while doing nothing, and getting chicks for free, run for Congress or prove to Goldman that you can write worthless derivatives.

The point of marriage is to offer men the opportunity, should they desire it, to stop living like a pig.  It offers a woman the chance to reform a pig and make the world a better place.  Win-win.

Have to disagree on that one, I have met a Canadian prostitute while on vacation in Sedona where she owned one of many properties.  Not a slave, more along the lines of Fleiss' pandering.  Their country hasn't degenerated to our level yet. Strippers in their oilfields were making 30.000 a month reportedly.  Actually, I don't know a single Canadian that makes less than six figures although I am sure they exist.  Probably the last middle and upper middle class country left.  Nobody is selling Grandma in Canada.  New Orleans and Detroit.... probably.

You missed the point entirely.  My post wasn't about people who want to prostitute as a profession.

It was about a government, in this case Germany, legalizing prostitution AND THEN FORCING UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT TO PROSTITUTE TO DO SO BEFORE THEY GET UNEMPLOYMENT TO FEED THEMSELVES AND/OR THEIR CHILDREN.

Pay special attention to the embolded text.  ;-)

See?  You just did exactly what I said you would.   You conflated prostitution with trafficking in women, and you conflated trafficking to paying for sex.  Those concepts have NOTHING to do with one another, moron.

And why on earth would you assume that someone who pays for sex "needs to"?  Are you so sheltered, clueless and sexless that you think those who pay for sex somehow can't get laid without paying for sex?  Is that what you think prostitution is?  You are either a woman, or a sheltered little metrosexual man who has been so beaten down by women that you have a testosterone level measuring somewhere in the low teens.  Let's forget about the fact that millions of successful, attractive and completely normal men spend billions per year to fuck beautiful, high-earning, free-willed hookers (I know, I just scrambled your little Christian pea brain) and let's review some basic points:

Trafficking = bad

Pedophelia = bad

Paid sex work between responsible adults behind closed doors = Fuck you for even thinking your opinion matters

Got it "dickweed"?

And don't even try the next retarded argument that says there's a slippery slope between all three ideas.   There isn't.  Go back to your primitive little church group and sing songs if it makes you feel better.  But stay the fuck away from my bedroom, you little creep.

Now see here, Poopoo; the real cretin is you, and every other clueless loser who can't distinguish between paying a hooker for sex and sleeping with a woman who loves you.  Remember Ashley Dupré? To her, Eliot Spitzer was just another flabby, balding middle-aged john that she had nothing but contempt for.  She did it for the 4,000 bucks, and nothing else.  What kind of guy is willing to pay that kind of money to bang a 19 year old girl at his age? LOSER.

What you whore-chumps will never know is what it's like to hold a beautiful girl who is really hot to bang YOU and ONLY YOU, and bring to five or six climaxes in a row and leave her weak in the knees. Is that worth going off every morning to frame houses for a living?  I'll leave you to decide, but I was going to go to work anyway.  In the meantime, I've had the incredible privilege of sharing my life with a beautiful, intelligent woman who every so often drives me absolutely crazy. That's like saying "There goes the utility of your guns. You never get shot at and so never get to use them". It's GREAT when one never gets shot at. Goal achieved. But the prudent thing to do is to keep the guns.

Likewise, it would be GREAT if those of us who now like Bitcoin get liberated from everything that they don't want (e.g. harassment of prostitutes, even if you personally don't deal with prostitution in any way) even without having to use Bitcoin. But again, better have the option of using something like Bitcoin, than not having it!

Bitcoin could be a preferred method of payment by the prostitutes themselves, for at least one reason. They wouldn't have to worry about physical protection of the money (getting robbed, especially by cops). Oh, and there are also no chargebacks.

You have a typo in the first paragraph: " guarantee to life, liberty, and security of the PRISON", unless that's supposed to be ironic, in which case I don't get it.

True. It does make sense though. Canada, like every other coercive state in the world, is pretty much a prison.

When will they get it that it is not worth keeping a prison when the prison staff can never hope to actually achieve happiness, whereas the prisoners have choices such as:

  • Dedicating their whole being to the goal of bringing the whole prison down, if need be, and using any means necessary just to make life more miserable for everybody, in the hope of just bringing the end closer.
  • Live with and concentrate on whatever freedom there is left, but being held back from sharing it with the staff (the ones that look like and think that they are free, but who are actually the ones who most desperately need that freedom... the irony...), precisely because of the rules that the prison has established.

Pretty effective way to achieve a pretty ineffective situation (i.e. a stalemate).

I should have made it clear. The whole point was, why do prison staff (and metaphorically meaning everyone working for the "security" and continuation of the state and institutions interdependent with the state) keep doing in the name of the state what they are doing at all.

If you're a straight guy all fucking is prostitution. You have to buy drinks, dinner, gifts, whatever the fuck it is. If you get married you're really paying for the pussy, in some of these cases regarding marriage half of your net worth is on the line.

All men pay for it in one way or another. No two ways about it. If you get married at least make sure your prostitute can make good sandwiches.

Get rid of the conductor and you can choose whether you would like to help the hobo charitably or not. Don't confuse the poor aid recipient with the absconders of 1.2 bil, tarp recipeints who bonused themselves millions (job well done boys) etc. Get rid of the conductors and things will improve.

I've always thought only those paying taxes should vote. The rest depend on our kindness, stead of legally robbing us and lining the fascists pockets along the way.

There is no such thing as free sex.  It always comes with costs.  With an escort you have a pretty good idea of what you will be paying and what you will be getting.  Prostitution is already alive and well in Canada.

Fri, 12/20/2013 - 20:58 | 4265750 Absalon

This is nothing but bad news for girls already working for escort agencies.  Legalizing prostitution will increase the supply of girls, push down prices, and bring in corporate operators who will push down the girls' net take home.

The girls still working the streets in Canada are the ones who are too unreliable to work for an escort agency/brothel and too stupid or disorganized to advertise on the Internet.  This is not going to help those girls at all.

That way, you keep most of it out of sight/mind of the general population since those who are involved have to be constantly vigilant about not crossing any lines.

Canada doesn't allow you to cross into their country if you've been convicted of a DUI: though I don't know if this applies only to drivers or it applies to all- including if one is a passenger.  The question is whether this is applicable in reverse.

The question was meant to determine where the similarities may rest with respect to how UNFREE the US and Canada are.

Canada seems ahead (in a good way) of the US on a number of aspects that hit my radar, but that does not say much.

The DUI thing is just so weird to me, though, I had to ask if it was reciprocal.

Good point Kreditanstalt. (I'm in British Columbia...)  Believe me, the real estate "values" in Canada are absurd and our real estate meltdown is on its way.  Maybe it won't collapse overnight.  Maybe you'll just see years and years of the slow hiss of the air going out of the gasbag of a housing market as prices deflate, buyers disappear and interest rates rise (or jobs disappear).

There is no aspect of life in Canuckistan that isn't supported by government meddling.  Period.

Interesting that you would post that as a comment on this article. From the linked article:

"there is no legislative requirement in Australia for high loan-to-value mortgages to be insured, prudent lenders have insisted that loans exceeding 80% of the value of residences be insured"

So when risk is determined, and actually risked by those who are charging for a service, it actually turns out to be a win win. Cheaper pussy and mortgages for all. Soon you won't even need motivation/job/income for anything..... For a while anyway.
