US Sailors, Assisting With Fukushima Clean Up, Crippled By Cancer

Tyler Durden's picture

Back in December 2012, we wrote that it was only a matter of time before Japan's criminal lying about the radioactive exposure in the aftermath of the Fukushima catastrophe caught up with it, as well as with countless numbers of people who would soon succumb to radiation induced cancers and other diseases. What we found surprising back then, before the full scale of the Fukushima catastrophe become clear and before even Tepco admitted that the situation is completely out of control, is that those holding Japan accountable were not its own citizens but eight US sailors who have then filed a suit against semi-nationalized energy operator TEPCO - the company which repeatedly ignored internal warnings about the ability of the Fukushima NPP to withstand an earthquake/tsunami -  seeking $110 million in damages.

Kyodo reported:

"Eight U.S. sailors have filed a damages suit against Tokyo Electric Power Co., claiming they were exposed to radiation and face health threats as the utility did not provide appropriate information about the Fukushima nuclear disaster while they engaged in rescue operations on board an aircraft carrier, U.S. media reported.

The plaintiffs who filed the suit at the U.S. federal court in San Diego -- seeking a total of $110 million, or 9.4 billion yen, in damages -- were aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan when it was involved in "Operation Tomodachi," a disaster relief effort shortly after a big earthquake and tsunami triggered the worst nuclear accident in decades, the reports said."

What is sad is that while everyone in the alternative media was repeatedly warning about the radiation exposure being misrepresented by both TEPCO and various Japanese ministries, it was the mainstream media that was constantly complicit in disseminating official and unofficial lies that there is nothing to fear.

One year after our report, the lies are not only catching up (and overtaking), but are ruining and dooming innocent lives. As Fox reports, dozens of US soldiers who participated in the Fukushima cleanup effort, are succumbing to numerous radiation-related illnesses, including cancer, and their only error was believing the official media lies.

From Fox:

When the USS Ronald Reagan responded to the tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011, Navy sailors including Quartermaster Maurice Enis gladly pitched in with rescue efforts.

But months later, while still serving aboard the aircraft carrier, he began to notice strange lumps all over his body. Testing revealed he'd been poisoned with radiation, and his illness would get worse. And his fiance and fellow Reagan quartermaster, Jamie Plym, who also spent several months helping near the Fukushima nuclear power plant, also began to develop frightening symptoms, including chronic bronchitis and hemorrhaging.

They and 49 other U.S. Navy members who served aboard the Reagan and sister ship the USS Essex now trace illnesses including thyroid and testicular cancers, leukemia and brain tumors to the time spent aboard the massive ship, whose desalination system pulled in seawater that was used for drinking, cooking and bathing. In a lawsuit filed against Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the plaintiffs claim the power company delayed telling the U.S. Navy the tsunami had caused a nuclear meltdown, sending huge amounts of contaminated water into the sea and, ultimately, into the ship's water system.

“At our level, we weren’t told anything,” Plym told FoxNews.com. “We were told everything was OK.” Now, Plym, Enis and dozens of others wonder if their service to their country and to Japan has left them doomed.

“I get so angry," Plym said. "They said as long as the plume was avoided we would be fine. But we knew then that something was going to happen. Common sense tells you that the wind would blow it everywhere. You don’t need to be a nuclear scientist to figure that out.”

Why the anger though: after all everyone lied, starting with those in control, and certainly the media that supports the status quo (one must think of all those advertising dollars) constantly and repeatedly that it is simply preposterous to assume that a benevolent regime which only cares about the wealth effect (of both the US and Japan) would engage in such a vast conspiracy as to hide from the world just how destructive the fallour from Fukushima truly was (even as the fringe blogosphere was warning precisely about this day in, and day out).

But while the lies are easily explainable, what is more surprising is that the soldiers are blaming just Tepco instead of everyone in their chain of command for putting them in the line of gamma radiation fire.

San Francisco Attorney Charles Bonner, who is representing allegedly cancer-stricken sailors, initially filed a federal suit in the Southern District of California more than a year ago on behalf of a dozen sailors. The lawsuit was initially dismissed, when the court ruled that any ruling would hinge on interpreting communication between the Japanese and U.S. governments, which could violate the separation of powers. But Bonner is amending the suit to add new allegations that would fall under the court's jurisdiction. And the number of plaintives has more than quadrupled as more service members come forward with radiation-related illnesses, he said.

“They went in to help with rescue efforts," said Bonner, who plans to refile the suit on Jan. 6. "They did not go in prepared to deal with radiation containment.”

The plaintiffs don't blame the U.S. Navy, which they believe acted in good faith, Bonner said. It was the plant's operators who sat on the meltdown information during the crucial hours following the March 11, 2011 disaster, he said.

“TEPCO pursued a policy which caused rescuers, including the plaintiffs, to rush into an unsafe area which was too close to the [Fukushima nuclear power plant] that had been damaged,” Bonner charged in an April filing now being updated to add more plaintiffs. “Relying upon the misrepresentation regarding health and safety made by TEPCO, upon information and belief, the U.S. Navy was lulled into a false sense of security.

“The officers and crew of the U.S.S. Reagan (CVN-76) and other vessels believed that it was safe to operate within the waters adjacent to the FNPP, without doing the kinds of research and testing that would have verified the problems known to the defendant TEPCO at the time.”

Nathan Piekutoski, 22, who served aboard the USS Essex, which was in the same deployment as the Reagan, said sailors had no choice but to trust what they were told.

“They did say it was safe at the time,” Piekutoski said. “We had to take their word for it.”

Piekutowski says he suffered from leukemia and, while he is currently in remission, Doctors have told him that he may need a bone marrow transplant.

“Within a few months I started getting all these weird symptoms," he recalled of the months following the disaster response. "Night sweats. Not sleeping. I started losing a lot of weight.

“It’s one of those things," he added. "You’re angry that it happens but we had to go. It was our duty. I joined the military to help people in need.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Defense declined to comment on the pending lawsuit, but told FoxNews.com the Pentagon has been monitoring and collecting data on radiation exposure in the region.

Needless to say, the criminals at Tepco have nothing to say:

TEPCO officials did not respond to requests for comment. But a recent admission before members of the Japanese press on Dec. 12 during a meeting at the Tokyo Press Club, former Prime Minister Naoto Jan said the first meltdown occurred five hours after the tsunami, not the next day as reported at the time.

Bonner alleges that the statement means that the Japanese government knew radiation was being leaked and did not inform the U.S. Navy.

“They knew there was an active meltdown and they deliberately hid it from the public as well as the Navy,” Bonner said. “Those sailors went in there totally unaware and they were contaminated as a result.”

Plym says she is prepared to have her symptoms question in court, should the case go to trial. But with so many U.S. sailors coming forward, she believes justice will prevail.

“People will say that out lawsuit is fake and that we are doing this for money, but it’s really about getting the correct information out there,” Plym said.

And now back to a mythical reality in which insolvent governments tell the "truth" about the true, and very deplorable, state of affairs just behind the peeing facade. In the meantime, to all the sailors whose only crime was believing their criminal, corrupt superiors: our condolences.

Corzine! I love it when I see he is not forgotten. I want one of those count downs, or count ups we used to have like the hostage situations. It would go like this:

Day 327: Is Jon Corzine still free? Is Jon Corzine still rich?

On another note, Ghengis, when I start with anything political or controversial with most (not all) family it devolves into feelings, especially with the left oriented.

Same with my family. And of Facebook.  I post things about Fuku, from the 'real' websites, not the made up entertainment type of news on CNN, etc.  Then i realize no one is listening, and vow to only post puppy stories and funny shit.  I inevitably can't help it and revert back to reality. I will never learn.  It's the 'helper and healer' in me, I guess.

Next day my attitude changes to "we all deserve what's coming".  it's lonely having a fucking clue.

That's becasue kids haven't had the "Baptism of Stains" which is life yet.

Bullshit and our belief in it is yet ANOTHER way to innoculate and anesthatize ourselves from life itself.  Not to mention, drugs, alcohol, binged eating and shopping.  Look at all the ads on TV, radio and print.  99% of them have to do with those 4 things alone.  And ALL advertising is BULLSHIT.  It's a vicious circle......leading to this.......http://unsider.deviantart.com/art/Ouroboros-Drawing-271330221

Dunno about that - more and more news is getting out and *gasp* even occassionally from the MSM. Most co-workers and family I talk to (Canada) are aware of the godawful mess in Japan and are very concerned. Especially those with young children.

I think the cat is definitely scratching the inside of the bag.  Just in the last month I have been excited and surprised at some of the things CNN, FOX, et al, have been posting. And it's not a kudos to them. It's not because they just learned about it or are growing a conscience.  It's because they no longer can ignore it, and their ratings have been proving that for quite a few years  now. People are starting to want to know the truth, however ugly. Slowly but surely.  And when they can't contain it any longer...BOOM!  The next big thing hits, a la 9/11, WW3, or whatever it may be.  We must be controlled and we must keep buying the ponzi scheme.

about a month after it first went down, I was standing at the school bus stop with a neighbor who grew up in Japan. I asked her a few questions about it and she gave some predictable answers. About twenty seconds went by and with an awkward look,  I started to tell her that I decided that I could only learn the truth online and that I didn't think we were getting the whole story. She suddenly welled up in tears and said all of Japan knows their government is lying to them and they are all afraid.

I'll never forget that.

The USSA Navy didn't know anything about what their sailors would be exposed to at a nuclear accident site? Bullshit. The Navy knew and decided to sacrifice the "cannon fodder" just as they always have done. Some things never change.

I have to agree... the USS Reagan is a Nuclear powered vessel... pretty sure they have some gadget or another to detect radiation aboard... Just a wild guess.

Many of us remember Agent Orange and the US Navy's denial concerning its toxicity. The Admiral that approved its use eventually lost his son to cancer due to its effects and his grandson was sadly born with a birth defect. The consequences of Agent Orange use in Southeast Asia still reverberate through multiple generations of people there.

For the Navy to say levels of radiation at Fukishima were at safe levels is criminal negligence.

I was wondering the same thing. Our Navy is loaded with nuclear powered craft. There has to be some level of expertise there and not in just one person. All military services prepare for chemical and nuclear war and you can put a load of stuff in a ship versus your average infantry battalion. Seems they would have been using the same equipment to monitor radiation levels and paths.

I am not fond of you conspiracy guys, but there is definitely reasonable suspicion here, especially with our current administration.

I am surprised the anti-nuke greenies are not all over this. Where is the Greenpeace ship? They might have radiated whales, a double whammy over there around Japan.

The reason they aren't suing the USN is because they know they can't win.

Yeah, good luck proving wrongdoing against the USN when all of the evidence you would need to prove it is no doubt classified.  The case against TEPCO is infinitely more likely to result in compensation for the victims, and it's not like they are just going after a deep pocket.  TEPCO made the mess and lied about it, so there's that.

At Area 51, they burned a bunch a bunch of stuff in trenches UPWIND of the base.  Transformer oil? Radioactive waste?  Flight 93+77 passengers who they dosed with zombie spores from Zeta Reticuli?  Nobody really knows, because they classified the records of what was burned.  They classified the records of who was employed at the base.  They classified the existence of the base.  Many people had chronic mystery ailments, some even died, but they were met with a wall of silence.  A judge ruled there was not enough evidence to even grant them standing to sue.  Thank you for your patriotism, now fuck off and die.  The link is down the memory hole.

@LTER agreed. Its estimated that approximately 50% of ALL US Govt documents are classified to some degree. And that may well be a conservative estimate, though we'll likely never know the true extent. But interestingly/sadly/horrifyingly(pick one), that suggests that we only know half of our own country's history! And even that history which is in the public domain is generally twisted to varying extents, as many of us are already well aware. If the entire history of the US Govt was exposed, we would be looking at an entity that can scarcely be imagined.

Of course it was bullshit! They were fully aware throughout and were monitoring radioactivity.

On 14 March 2011, the USS Reagan was forced to relocate to avoid a radioactive plume from the Fukushima site which had already contaminated 17 crewmembers of three helicopter crews.

http://www.militarytimes.com/article/20110314/NEWS/103140314/Navy-ships-...

On 23 March, the Reagan's crew was conducting radiation decontamination operations to remove radiation hazards from the ship, which included scrubbing down any surface that could have been contaminated, including the flight deck and aircraft.

Get a load of the pictures- http://www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/the-daily-need/photo-a-super-size-s...

The Reagan's commanding officer, Capt. Thom Burke, wrote on the ship's Facebook page that everyone aboard the carrier is safe and healthy and that the ship is prepared to handle radiation issues.

"As a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, we have extensive technical expertise onboard to properly monitor such types of risks, and if necessary, rapidly resolve the situation," he wrote.

Thanks gall was waiting for that.  We probably should also keep in mind that often these official sources arent so kind as to spill the beans.  If people cant figure this out now where will they be when they simply just deny everything and release nothing.  That creepy green flash shown on the news that was claimed to be just a gas explosion comes to mind.  Most people believed that without question, despite seeing it with their own eyes.  I had chill run up my spine.

So they weren't honest about the meltdowns.  Do you think they are being honest about knowing the whereabouts of the cores?  Is there an elephants foot?  If not why not?  Was it so hot that it may have been able to drip out without solidifying the slowest and last to leave drippings?  Or did each explosion mess up the integrity of the containment pretty bad and just fling stuff?

Unfortunately there's a lot of BS charts/data out there (on both sides). When the incident happened I turned on a logging geiger counter at my house (AZ, not that far from CA), and picked up several large spikes, though none large enough to appreciably raise the day's total background radiation.

What was fascinating, however, was that one spike was way larger than the others, and the day that happened, the EPA monitors in the state were down for maintenance. The next day, the monitors the next state east (prevaliling winds) went down for maintenance, and the day after that... you guessed it, more monitors offline for maintenance. It went on for five days, going clear to the east coast.

You can't not trust this fucking government to do anything in your interests. Even the simplest things like leaving a radiation monitor online, or a road open during a budget battle. It's all fucking politics, and none of it is about helping the people.

as for expected casualties and causes... you know what the majority of fatalities for Chernobyl has been attributed to? sit down chicken littles, this'll blow your mind... it's attributed to _the stress of relocation_ from being evacuated... not cancer inducing radiation etc, just the plain stress and depression from being moved... and, lo and behold, the same is being noticed for the Fukushima evacuees... not hot zone exposure death, not terminal cancers just springing up out of the blue, simply depression and alcoholism from being moved... hell, 15,000 people died from the tsunami proper, but everyone is up in arms about an amount of radioactive water that can't even fill an eighth volume of an olympic pool being dumped into _the Pacific Ocean_ for cryin' out loud...

why don't you fifth column shit stirrers do some fucking simple research before you post your idiocy... that way you can at least pretend to know what you're talking about

EVIDENCE FOR CHILDHOOD CANCERS (LEUKEMIA)
With overall 42 epidemiological studies published to date power frequency EMFs are among the most comprehensively studied environmental factors. Except ionizing radiation no other environmental factor has been as firmly established to increase the risk of childhood leukemia.

Sufficient evidence from epidemiological studies of an increased risk from exposure to EMF (power frequency magnetic fields) that cannot be attributed to chance, bias or confounding. Therefore, according to the rules of IARC such exposures can be classified as a Group 1 carcinogen (Known Carcinogen). There is no other risk factor identified so far for which such unlikely conditions have been put forward to postpone or deny the necessity to take steps towards exposure reduction. As one step in the direction of precaution, measures should be implemented to guarantee that exposure due to transmission and distribution lines is below an average of about 1 mG. This value is arbitrary at present and only supported by the fact that in many studies this level has been chosen as a reference.

Base-station level RFR at levels ranging from less than 0.001 uW/cm2 to 0.05 uW/cm2. In 5 new studies since 2007, researchers report headaches, concentration difficulties and behavioral problems in children and adolescents; and sleep disturbances, headaches and concentration problems in adults.

The MSM is useless.

Why?

To paraphrase Kyle Bass: They will never tell you the truth. They can't tell you the truth. They are there to promote confidence.

Bottom line: you must do you own due diligence with sources that are independent from the above.

Much thanks to ZH for being one of those sources exposing the reality, no matter how painful.

RT just reported a new press release by TEPCO. The company now admits a new highest ever radiation reading on No.2 reactor. They have found heavy radiation in ground water under number 4.  TEPCO admits a constant flow of heavily radioactive water flowing from new areas into the sea. We all know TEPCO has constantly downplayed radiation release and the stability of the cores.

If the USN sailors were exposed to cancer causing levels of radiation that are already showing up, then didn't the Navy use detection equipment during their run in to the area? If sailors whith such a short exposure period are getting cancer, what about long term Japanese residents?

It was funny in the RT story. TEPCO just admited radioactive contamination of ground water, yet, they said "We don't know where it is coming from." I have a hint for you TEPCO leadership, perhaps the three melted and uncontained nuclear cores might have something to do with the rise of contamination of ground water.

I can't prove it, because my inforamtion is limited to the media, but I think as my best guess, that this situation is going out of control. Meaning it is getting worse very fast, not better. Simply consider the three melted cores which went through their containment structures when they melted. According to TEPCO itself, they have not yet located the exact spots wher the cores sit. How deep? They don't know. 2 year later and they have not even found the cores, let alone begun a containment plan? This will simmer until some critical event of physics kicks off a seconday disaster, not to mention the slow death of constant relaease of radioactive water and air.

From my experience in the Navy, we were told during military law lectures in boot camp, that as US service members, we had no rights to sue the military. As for a foreign nation, they never made that clear.

I say this is bullshit.  The USS George Washington, home-ported in Yokosuka (south of Tokyo and more than a couple of hundred kilometers from the Ronald Reagan) went to sea because of their fear of radiation exposure.  Somebody in the Navy was doing some research.  Sailors were obviously ordered into the area without regard to that research.

The Navy probably monitored radiation exposure to it's sailors, and had an array of sensors on line before they even went into the zone. I bet the Navy is using this information and it's sailors medical histories going forward as useful information on the effects of radiation on crewmen should a nuclear event take place. Never let a crisis go to waste, our military knows this axiom very, very well.

Not quite. Nagasaki and Hiroshima were nuclear explosions with little (a few kilograms) material used and most of it "splited" for the explosion. You could walk in the cities a month later with almost no risk. The information is therefore limited to a one off flash of radiations plus some fallouts. Fukushima is very different. 3 large cores spewing relentlessly large amounts of radiation mostly through water running out to the sea. The radioactive elements are diluted but the amount of radiation can be significant and they are very different compared to what you get after an explosion so we can expect the effects to be very different too. A lot to learn indeed!

Well, then.  How fortunate for the researchers.  How is Fukushima different from Chernobyl?  They've had a few years to study that one, too.

Meanwhile, no one seems to be studying how to prevent these disasters or how to end the political/corporate corruption that makes these accidents probable rather than merely possible.

IPPNW assessment http://www.chernobylcongress.org/fileadmin/user_upload/pdfs/chernob_repo...

Conclusion - the lack of large-scale independent long-term studies does not permit a complete picture, but a number of trends can be shown:

# a high mortality rate and an almost 100 % morbidity rate can be observed among the liquidators and others exposed to high radiation levels.

# 25 years on, cancer and other diseases have emerged on a scale that, owing to the long latency period, might have appeared inconceivable immediately following the catastrophe.

# Non-cancerous diseases are far more dramatic; “new” symptoms, such as the premature aging of liquidators, raise questions that research is still unable to answer.

# By 2050 thousands more cases of illnesses will be diagnosed that will have been caused by the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe. The delay between cause and noticeable physical reaction is insidious. Chernobyl is far from over.

# Thousands of children were born dead or died in infancy, with malformations and hereditary diseases, or living with diseases they would not have developed under normal circumstances.

# The genetic defects caused by Chernobyl will continue to trouble the world for a long time to come – most of the effects will not become apparent until the second or third generation.

Simple Strategy, Start Getting Nuclear to Pay Its Real Cost
Nuclear is a stupid technology that entraps the best and brightest into it's lie. It is also a way to steal from the future, like printing money, or like making pension promises that are just impossible to keep. They are all theft.
here at the Nuke Pro we have several strategies, one of which is to make nuclear start addressing some of the costs of dealing with the spent fuel. Of course, with Solar PV now at 3 cents per kWH, and plants like Kewaunee (bought dirt cheap at $280M) and they still can't turn a profit in a market of 14 cents per kWH. Well the conclusion is obvious, nuke doesn't pay. And if the new Vogtle ever pull back the moderator rods....and costs $16B, how can that possibly work. Even will socialized insurance costs.
But once we get them to start absorbing the real costs of decommissioning, and not just let the plants sit for 60 years, and not just let the spent fuel sit in pools forever. Then the true cost of nuclear will start to appear.....and the plant closures will rocket forward, as a race to get out gets underway.
By the way, we can't just let these old plants sit for 60 years. WE THE PEOPLE need the infrastructure, as these are the perfect locations to feed in solar farms, molten salt generation, and peaking nat gas generators to smooth out the renewable inputs. Sorry nuker....suck it up and green field it back to where it was, except of course for the transformers, switchgear, power lines, syncronisers, and various distribution panel equipment that will be so useful for the "Fresh Energy". And in case it isn't obvious, if the plant sits for 60 years, all these assets will become worthless.
Who is next? Pilgrim? Palisades? Plenty of candidates. Just pick any Entergy plant and you have a likely target for activist education.
This is a real job creator, not fake government jobs, not entitlements. This is work which must be done. We must get rid of these old plants, and the waste. Dry Cask everything, now, in about 7 years it can all be done. And decommission the plants enough that the useful electrical assets can be used for the Fresh Energy. It is not necessary to completely dismantle the plants now...but there are going to be a lot of nuclear workers who can sure use the work of dismantling. Why not do it all now? The average worst radionuclides have half lives of 30 years, so in 60 years, they will have dropped to 25% of where they are now. So what if a bit more personal protection is needed, what if we need to use a few more robots. We can't let the risks and the assets sit fallow for 2 generations just to let them be a little less hot.

$350 B estimate in the article below sounds high. My high estimate to Dry Cask all the uncasked waste in USA is around $15B.

Nuke Pro out. Drop a comment!

I'm surprised you can't find the answer to your own question. The obvious choice for disposal are the hills on the backside of the fukishima disaster, it should be declared a nuclear catastrophy which can not be made any worse by adding trash to a land fill, then build a containment wall protecting it from the sea. By the end of that you will have no more waste and no more japanese to tell us they are the superior producers of products as long as you do it our way.

Plus you have no reliable green enery alternative, it went up in smoke on the conversion from DC power to AC power and can not be stored in a cost efficient manner. You're right about the high level corruption, we proved they sent the cold fusion alternative overseas to struggle, just so we could keep the status quo and political machine operating as they intended it. His time is almost up though so prepare yourself to go back to the future, it's the only cure.

I want full disclosure on what the CEOs of California companies are eating and drinking, where they spend their time, and the make-up of their domiciles.

Edit:

Facebook's Zuckerberg has been buying adjacent properties in Palo Alto at well-above market rates.

While not necessarily newsworthy, it was the spouse who said that he may be buying them not to combine the land rights but to build tunnels underneath.

While far-fetched, tunnels may lead to bunkers.

Just sayin'...

There is nothing new about the US babylonian govt killing it's own military. Heck, they have been doing it for the last 11 years big time in the front of everyone's faces to get rid of the American military before the UN communist inside-job take over of the USA. Nothing new at all and sadly, this is just one more example of the blatant disregard and purposeful murdering of the US forces in every branch, and form. How about that Benghazi scam? And Seal Team 6? How many more are going to be purposely sacrificed?

What's even more blatant and evil is, the real big agenda of killing the entire world's population using the fukushima Extinction Level Event to murder off the entire planets natural biology and more so, the human race. How many of you are sick now? You are not sick, you are dying.

Oh!...but profits...moar...the money god...never mind the real deal...what's on TV!?!? Oh please oh not so great and not so powerful babylon...what's the next false flag distraction from the horrendous agendas you have played out for centuries in your world domination and population elimination games to kill us all?

Farkin asshats are starting to piss off the majority and ya know what you baboonic kark-clowns, you better get it on and do us before we come for you for truly, there is about to unleash a ferocity of anger towards many targets in the halls of babylon...humm humm you betch ya...the gang is getting angry! There is no doubt that the winds are whistling changes, and it ain't the changes these puppet liars in chief have babblesquagged so long about.

Less than a week after Fukushima, Dr. Nancy Snyderman, on the NBC Nightly News for March 17, 2011, said there was no chance much radiation would reach the USA.  During her report, there was video of potassium iodide pills in packets being bought in California.  Now we know that the main radioactive meltdown isotope reaching the West Coast is iodine 131.  Potassium iodode pills should have been given to everyone on board the Ronald Reagan as a preventive measure, but doing so would have warned Americans of the imminent danger from radioactive fallout from Fukushima.

Lets sue next time the Cosmic Background Radiation.

There is 2 possiblity here:

A 5000 crew nuclear powered aircraft carrier cant detect radition contamination.

8 US navy man seeks $110 million with false accusations.

Both cases has 1 similar conclusion: US navy is highly unprofessional...

The Officers knew the radiation levels.

Unprofessional?  The Officer's profession is to send the low-lifes out to meet their death.

You are correct. True Story:

Task: Guard FTX examining vehicles with hidden "bombs."

11 Bravos and 31 Bravos were not being attentive enough to task. SGM sets off firecracker, everyone jumps.

Here are his exact words after we got "blown up:"

"You men are cannon fodder. Your job is to get blown up before the vehicle gets to the depot and then blows up as the enemy wants it to. If you do NOT want to get blown up, you had better check out this GD car because every fucking dickhead here is responsible. Do not become cannon fodder. Refuse to be cannon fodder. Now, do it again. SGT Lake City, you have been blown up twice. You are senior NCO on this crew. Quit fucking off."

****

The USN officers may not have known the true extent of contamination, I have to give them a quarter-inch of credit. However, a Chief should have had a detector out. 98% of officers in the Navy cannot find their ass with their hands unless Chief tells them where it is. 95% of Army officers are the same.

True Story:

MAJ X: "SGT Lake city, how come you have A/C in our new HQ and we do not in the COLs office?

Me: (in officer country): What's wrong, sir?

"The knob just spins around. You can't turn it on."

(I pull plastic knob off, turn pot switch with leatherman).

"The plastic switch has a set screw to secure it to this metal post sir. I will tighten it."

"Wow, thanks SGT, I thought it was broken. I knew if anyone had A/C it would be your crew. How about checking all the A/C units?"

"Yessir."

If a U.S. aircraft carrier didn't know the radiation level in the area then they are either to stupid to turn on the equipment, the equipment doesn't work or our military has been dumbed down to the point of uselessness.

I am surprised that no one has yet mentioned the freudian slip of what lies "just behind the peeing facade". Surely they meant peeling? This whole affair (and everything else these days) does stink to high heaven.
