Map Of The Day: Tokyo vs London - Size Matters
The following graphic from @Amazing_Maps struck us in its stunning comparison between Greater London and the Greater Tokyo Area superimposed over England.
With a population of around 36 million, making it by far the world's most populous metropolitan area, it covers an area of approximately 13,500 km² (5,200 mi²), giving it a population density of 2,642 person/km² - which is more than twice the population density of Bangladesh.
The area has the largest metropolitan economy in the world, with a total GDP (nominal) of approximately US$1.9 trillion (¥165 trillion) in 2008.

My anthill is bigger than yours!
While you are waiting for common sense to prevail, here's a funny animation to watch:

I miss those weekly assholes of the week profile on zh. The last one was some zionist fuck from jpm
Amen to that....
~~~
So where do you relocate 36 million people when the entire water supply is contaminated by radiation? What's the alternative?
tell them "there is no radiation. or if there was, it's safe."
Urban sprawl, meet Asian sprawl.
That's gonna be one damned difficult place to evacuate everyone from when the winds start blowing just the right way over Fukushima.
I'm talking about London, of course. Tokyo's already toast.
Sad but within few years Japaneses will be so much irradiated that no where in the world people will let them bury their dead but in Fukushima.
After being exposed to radiation, Japanese men will become feminized with tiny penises, and will give up mating entirely.
Oh, wait...
They've always been at war with EastAsia?
Make a real life Godzilla movie? But, guess what KTK, All the water on the planet has radioactive material in it, mostly natural.
It's too redundant to have A'hole of the week. Harry Reid is A'hole of the week every week. Still, lots of competition out there.
What's the alternative?
36 million glow in the dark Japanese... think of the savings in electricity, no need for lights
raise the limit.
Space. Ask China.
You call THAT funny? Just wasted a minute of my life watching it.
But my fiancé always tells me size doesn't matter.
Width does...
More appropriately, 'girth'.
are we into discussing the elasticity of gucci handbags?
I have premonitary visions of Lady Lagarde!
LOL
I am very sorry ...
The case of mammary glands, probably not.; she's a wonderful whatever !
in reply to comment :
#1 - It doesn't matter how big your tool is, it does matter how big your bank account is...
#2 - fiance equals future ex-wife. Get out while there's still time.
Is it a trick? There is no option to select both.
The only way to win is to not play.
How about a nice game of chess?
<spoken in a computer synthesized voice>
It's not the size that counts, it's the woman that counts the size!
In Japan, everybody wants to live in Tokyo.
.
"size matters," she said.
City of London, when you absolutly ,positively have to pack the maximum amount of evil into a compact space. Hard to believe that it is even more evil than DC.
In New York, you can get most of it into 2-3 buildings.
How would you like to be in that chicken palace when the shit hits the fan
Its a terrifying thought. When TSHTF I'd rather starve to death in a forest or in a field fighting for survival rather than be in the concrete jungle.
Hmmm. My dad used to say "It's better to be rich and healthy than to be sick and poor."
I seem to have gone 'the middle way': I ain't broke yet, but I smoke.
I don't know...
Starving to death is a long process... getting shot in the head, it's like you're there one second, and gone the next.
But neither is likely in your analogy. If you're in a field orforest you can eat grass or bark, or bugs or whatever you can find. You won't starve.
And my analogy doesn't work for Tokyo. It's a gun-free country.
Actually, the opposite is more likely. Someone will probably shoot you for stealing their bark. The woods will be full of armed Americans.
And even the biggest FEMA-like operation won't be able to get enough food & water into Tokyo. Food riots, being trampled, starvation, will kill a lot of people.
And the point is...?
As the food in that area is terrible the Japs can then export all their irradiated SUSHI to the UK !
Here's the only map that matters superimposed over England...or the rest of the world for that matter.
and whose birthday is it today?
Americas have about 1B people. Africa same. Europe 500M.
And Asia has 4B.
Aren't numbers interesting?
Europe 740m (maybe this incl. Russia?)
Americas 940m
Oceania, Pacific coast of North America, and southern Africa are the most viable (i.e. ruling out Siberia and most of Canada) remaining, least densely populated ares.
Pray.... that the Fuku radioacctive water plume, doesn't go there.... a Blesseed Christmas and new year to all, and thank you to the Tylers.. who bring us the real news.
If there was ever a people that should be extra cautious of nuclear power, it is the Japanese. It seems they never learn.
And that's after my Dad burned it to the ground.
Lol. I was about to junk, but its true and is a reflection of a resilient people if nothing else.
And if your dad was over there, who dropped the bombs on Deteoit, Camden, Oakland...etc
......who dropped the bombs on Deteoit, Camden, Oakland...etc
The American politicians and their stateless bankster Tribal masters.
Agreed with the exception of "stateless". The Banksters and the state are one.
'who dropped the bombs on Deteoit, Camden, Oakland'
The teachers union; their never ending black-hole of 'what about the children' cry when it was really 'what about my raise, my pension and my healthcare' bombed the crap out of those cities. Their legacy costs are still burning down cities today.
Not sure if this has been covered earlier today by Tyler, but seems like Israel is mock-surprised that NSA is spying on their leaders too...
http://nypost.com/2013/12/23/israeli-officials-outraged-at-us-spying-revelations/
Then NSA came for the Israelis, and there was no one left to speak for them.
So you could drive the distance of Manchester to Oxford and still be in the city. Fuck that.
In china there is the supposed 'one child' per couple rule to control population while in Japan they practice the 'one copulation' rule where all interest in sex 'melts down' after only one solitary sexual encounter.
I'm beginning to believe that the Japanese women evolved from the Cicada where, after only one solitary sexual act, all sexual interest disappears for 17 years.
Come to think about it that describes my wife........
She's always hot with me, ug ?!
She finally found someone to breed with that damn dog of hers.....thanks!
Your papers must be top notch...
If you REALLY want to see the geopolitical implications of geographical map superpositionning, just look at this to understand the battle for Africa currently raging in Mali/Libya/CAR/Sudan ...
L’Afrique grandeur nature : la carte qui bouscule les idées reçues - Le nouvel Observateur
Africa : 30 million square KM
USA+ China : 20 million square Km
And then the others all conveniently fit in !
That's the Jigsaw we should have bought everyone for Christmas.
Now superimpose a map of Texas with a local usin' a stick to get the 'hello' from his neighbor's dog off his boot...
"Well, sheee-it..."
That'd be cool.
Just keep on printing, you assholes.
No amount of money or pussy could convince me to live in either of those cities. Or NYC, Chicago, LA, etc, etc, etc...
So you're saying you are gay. Got it.
" so I says, 'Dave, those irradiated Japanese just won't fit in the Midlands, even if we DO rip them off." but would the posh bastard listen?...'
True story. When the Japanese built Tokyo Tower (yep, the one they have had to rebuild several times because Godzilla keeps tearing it down) and painted it orange and white (don't they know by now that sea creatures hate that color combination?!), they had a naming contest. After receiving over 82,000 entries, they went with the most original "Tokyo Tower" because it's a tower in Tokyo.
Now that's funny! Thanks for the laugh!
How many whales does it take to feed Tokyo?
Probably not as many as shark fins.
Look, if the sharks and whales would just stop eating the Japanese fishermen's catch... At least thats the perspective out of Japan!
All of them?
How about an overlay of greater New York City or just smear the map with shit... same effect.
Size matters?
When I look to Swiss, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein or even Monaco - I'm in doubt..
More important are Dollars (...and even squaremeters livingspace & qualityof living) per person....otherwise I could live somewhere in China.
As a reminder: http://www.mercer.com/articles/quality-of-living-survey-report-2011
How about a radiation or cancer cluster comparison? I bet Tokyo would win that one too.
In the category "mine is bigger than yours" Tokyo is the clear winner. But the map above is incorrect. It represents the Kanto area and about half of it is as empty as the English countryside. It is about the same as a "South England Greater London Area" with 20 million people. The only difference is that there are urban corridors linking the cities in Japan which do not exist in the UK but outside these corridors, it's countryside. Rice fields and bamboo groves.
Ah, London is a shithole that needs to be razed and rebuilt from scratch.
Minus the invaders.
Can you imagine the amount of shit produced, moved, processed and dispersed every day? I am talking real shit....what a reality.
As a "metropolitan area", Guangzhou has more people. 44 million.
I prefer London over NY, and Tokyo over London. Best city in Asia. Shanghai minus the smog might be as good, but the Japanese are more elegant and polished. The only city I like better is Paris. France, not Texas. Because, among other things...
http://wolferadio11.wordpress.com/2009/11/19/paris-france-vs-paris-texas...
You can see why I prefer French "ribs" over Texan "ribs". Or why studying Anatomy at the Sorbonne is best. Or, as a former French President once said: "I love every French woman between 18 and 65".
If I am China and I want to cause problems for Japan, don't I create a fake Japanese fleet and go screw with North Korea?
Another example of how geography is not taught correctly in our schools. Someone has clearly mistaken the Kanto region for Tokyo metro. This is the equivalent of someone here mistaking Washington State for Washington D.C. The Tokyo metro area is generally understood to be the combined cities of Yokohama, Tokyo, Kawasaki, and Chiba. The outline above is the combination of the entire prefectures of Tokyo, Chiba, Ibaraki, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Gunma, a lot of which is sparsly populated. It would be like someone saying that the US eastern metro corridor consists of the entire states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
Is that map to scale?
LA is even bigger
City limits don't really matter. Population density matters. In certain parts of Asia and Europe, there's a LOT of people to go through to get to the "countryside". In some cases, the "countryside" doesn't exist.
http://nordpil.com/static/images/population_density.png
I'm kind of eyeing a move to Australia 'bout now. Eh, mate?
Just to put things in perspective.
The "Greater London" are on that map is not really Greater London but covering also outer London which basically the land inside the M25.
The M25 is a UK motorway (freeway to you in the USA) that goes around Outer London.
The population inside the M25 is 20 million people.
