Meanwhile, In The Non "Polar Vortex" World...

Tyler Durden's picture

While America is preparing to usher in the coldest days of the 21st century, some other places around the globe are hardly as worried. Below is a photo from Rio's Ipanema beach over the weekend, where temperatures hit 51 degrees. Celsius.

Maybe the global warming experts (and their rescuers) currently stuck in the Antarctic ice, should plan accordingly: plus the sights in Rio are certainly more enjoyable than in a barren ice wasteland...

It is NOT 124o F on that Beach. That is what temperature that 51oC is equivalent.

It was 102oF in Rio yesterday. Currently as I write, in the hottest part of the day, it is 88oF

There is a sewage stream that gulfs right into Ipanema beach, don`t be mistaken. And there are kids of color swimming in the canal underpass right within the cool sewage.

The apartments near by are multimillion dollar homes and
the favela dwelings above all have million dollar views.

And yes, this probably is not Ipanema beach at all, rather
Leme, not even yet Copacabana. 600.000 thousand souls on a
normal weekend and 100 degrees with a sea breeze is rather
pleasant, moisture and humidity is the spoil most of the year in Rio. If it get`s hot and reasonably dry in summer,
it is all fun.

Near the end of the 19th Century, the army of the newly established Republic of Brazil massacred 30,000 members of a separatist religious sect in the War of Canudos.  In addition to being anti-republic, the sect believed the metric system was a satanic invention.  A total of about 8,000 Brazilian soldiers died in three different offensives against the sect.  Canudos is underwater today, the result of a dam-building project.

Metric is irritating progressive BS, even Australia adopted
it officially and no able mechanic would give an inch towards new measures. You can grab an 1/8 inch wrench blind folded, in mm you would loose the Russian roulette...

Fahrenheit? Not so much, unless you live in a hot climate where 100 degrees is the comfort zone not to be exceeded by
much. The Celsius 0 degrees is what would better be applied
to northern hemisphere climates , hence the freezing point of water makes a lot of sense. Unless you go rafting in Alaska and the streams just refuse to freeze. Well, physics is better not applied to the living organism of water or anything relating to the fluid presence of mankind...

Actually, anyone working in science or engineering pretty much uses SI units all the time. Not that I have anything against the old Imperial units, where you can still substitute a body part as a rough measure (I know my span is about 7", my thumb is about 1", and my foot is, oddly enough, about 1'). And I confess that for temps and weights, I still mentally convert to Imperial. 20 degrees C doesn't mean anything to me (after 50 years of it!); but 68 F means put on a long sleeve shirt.

Being an American gives you no excuse. Water also freezes at 0oC

Now you have two data points as Water Boils at 212oF and Freezes at 32oF. Those numbers appear to be arbitrary.

A temperature system set up upon the Physical Properties of Water, the Freezing Point and the Boiling Point at STP, does not seem all that arbitrary, does it?

Can you use the Definition of the Slope to write a Function with the two data points? Do you remember your Algebra?

Or as an American are you also INNUMERATE?

I am an American and I happen to understand both systems. I prefer the Metric System as it is EXPONENTIALLY Based. Yes it is based on Powers of Ten.

It's what happens when the planet tilts.

And climate change is not invalid just because it gets cold in America in the winter, weather extremes are the heads up. Pay no attention the the ice melting at the poles and glaciers receding at a fast clip, etc, etc.

Now excuse me while I keep feeding the six months camp fire inside my wood stove.

It was 34 in Leblon yesterday, at least that's what my car's indicator said,  but certainly the sensible heat with the strog sun (kinda like wind chill in the Great White North) could have given the impression of 51. MOX is not the Holy Grail, it is the biggest Nail in the Coffin of Nuclear Power

I have been actively prompting this exact idea for almost 2 years, it will be nice when MSM picks up the idea and educates

It appears that Socref is a pronuker who is about up to my level of sophistication.   There is a good chance he is paid troll, but may just be a true believer.

He is casting uncertainty and doubt, he tries to proclaim that the blow up mode is simply a statement of a mathematical singularity in which the equation blows up, like trying to divide by zero.

But the blow up mode means far more, and in fact, this issue is the line in the sand for the pro-nukers.

Succintly:
To keep the industry going, they have to pretend they have a solution to the pollution problem.    Their solution has been MOX, plutonium enriched fuel.

All fuels can blow sky high in an uncontrolled reaction called a Moderated Prompt Criticality (MPC).   Uranium fuel needs just the right conditions.   But MOX fuel is 10 times more likely to enter the MPC and with 20 times the explosive result, all due to the plutonium being more likely to release neutrons more easily and more quickly.

So their "holy grail" has been shown to be a Holy Curse, as both Reactor 3 and the Equipment pool of Reactor 4 both had MOX and both blew and had extreme fires.    And now we have a poisoned Pacific Ocean.

So the Pro-Nukers took a risk and it blew up in all of our faces.   And now they have sent their best troops to squash the idea that MOX can blow up and turn reactors into Radiation Canons (tm)

The proof is not just in posts at Nuke Pro, but these are permanent pages, see the tabs at the top.

Video showing how fuel can blow up in an out of control criticality--
http://nukeprofessional.blogspot.com/p/videos-moderated-prompt-criticality.html

Arnie Gundersen confirming and enhancing my theory
http://nukeprofessional.blogspot.com/p/gundersen-email-and-theories.html

And when you see that probably at least 100,000 lbs of Uranium and Plutonium was aerosolized into the atmosphere, you know for sure that it wasn't just a hydrogen explosion which blows from the top down and blows out the walls.     It was a "Radiation Canon" with the explosive force coming from below and within the mixture of fuel, causing it to be launched up and out.   Remember the videos of Reactor 3, and when Reactor 4 also blew and had a big fire and side meltout, they covered up the video of Reactor 4.    They were loading MOX Plutonium into Reactor 4, and MOX Plutonium was stored in the Equipment pool (opposite from the spent fuel pool).

That proof of aerosolization is here, using EPA data.

WARNING: COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC

LIGHT INTRODUCTIONS

DIRECTV Costco Rep Training Seminar

Trainee Chrissy: ...So we go through everything with the customer and then we call the “Florida Office” to confirm everything and setup their appt right?

Trainer Vladimir: Yes. Very good Chrissy. Remember that you should quote the customer the “teaser” $34.99 rate for the first twelve months and make sure you write it on the contract.

Trainee Chrissy: I’m not sure I understand why we do that. Why don’t we just be straight up and honest with the customer and tell them the real rate of $39.99 that we are going to charge them anyway.

Won’t some customers see that as a “bait and switch” when we tell them that we have to charge them $39.99 instead of $34.99 as we had originally promised because “the $34.99 rate “expired yesterday”, even though we could never have sold them the service for $34.99 in the first place?

Trainee Vlaidimir: Good question Chrissy. The reason why we do that is because our extensive analysis and research has shown us that we make and, more importantly, retain a customer that we use this approach with.

If we offer the $34.99 rate we are not making a customer.

Trainee Chrissy: I don’t understand. Aren’t they still making a 24 month commitment to the $34.99 rate the same as the 24 month commitment they make to the $39.99 rate we try to “upsell” them to?

Trainer Vladimir: We do not make the same kind of customer at $34.99 and at $39.99. Again, Chrissy, we have done extensive testing on this.

Trainee Chrissy: What is the difference in the customers from $34.99 to $39.99?

Trainer Vladimir: The difference is a “customer” at the $34.99 rate is motivated solely by the price of the service and is an aggressive “comparison shopper”. Generally these kinds of customers are looking for the lowest price service in the market.

Our research has shown us that these kinds of customers do not make good long term customers and usually quickly switch to another service for a deeper discount on their service than we provided them at $34.99.

We do not want this type of customer.

We want the customer to whom a few bucks (like 5) isn’t going to “make or break” the deal. They don’t really mind that they pay an extra $5 for our service because they find other value in it and are much less likely to switch to another service for a few dollars.

This is our method of “weeding out” the “Value Market” customer who shops solely on price. So called “Value Market” customers make it difficult for us to make a suitable profit on them.

Trainee Chrissy: So what you’re telling me is that The End Justifies The Means.

We use what amounts to an age old Deceptive Trade Practice commonly known as “Bait and Switch” to find out how sensitive to the price of our service and the likelihood that a customer will switch to another more competitive service for a few dollars less.

That seems unethical, possibly illegal.

Trainer Vladimir: It works for us Chrissy. We are able to screen the kinds of customers we get much better with this approach.

Besides, it is a common industry practice.

Trainee Chrissy: But there is another unaccounted for variable in this equation.

Trainer Vladimir: I’m sorry? I don’t understand what you mean.

Trainee Chrissy: Well, the customer (variable) who is wise enough to see through the “Bait and Switch” will undoubtedly lose interest in our service for the sole reason that they honestly see that they have been deceived. Some honest people do not do business with companies who use the “Bait and Switch” approach under any circumstances.

Your models don’t seem to have taken into account the kind of customer who could be a loyal honest customer to an honest company that does not believe in the use of deceptive trade practices like “Bait and Switch”.

Trainer Vladimir: Our research shows that such customers are generally in the minority.

Trainee Chrissy: So you’re willing to sacrifice what could be the life blood, heart and soul of a great company, an honest approach to the sales process, for the sake of trying to generate a customer that will stay with the company because we upsold them on price when they bought and they didn’t mind getting a “bait and switch” or were to stupid to identify it?

I believe that is called “cutting off your nose, despite your face” where I come from.

I had a customer today, some guy named Frank C. who came through my area. I liked him and I think he liked me. He was genuinely interested in signing up for the service and I think he could tell he was getting a good deal at the agreed on price of $34.99 for the first twelve months..

I used this “bait and switch” approach with him probably against my better judgement, in retrospect.

He saw right through the “bait and switch” immediately.

He was polite about it and didn’t call it that.

He just said he was going to do more research before he made his decision.

But I bet you a dollar to a donut he won’t ever be back to DIRECTv as a customer.

I also bet you that he will be telling other people that he got a “bait and switch” ploy from a DIRECTv rep today.

Trainer Vladimir: Ok Chrissy, you’ve forced my hand. I’m sorry but I’m going to have to ask you to leave the training facility and never come back. Your employment with DirectV is terminated effective immediately.

Trainee Chrissy: You’re too late. I already resigned. My resignation is on the desk of the President of DirectV as we speak.

He will be in possession of this conversation posthaste.

I suspect that this “bait and switch” approach came from the top down. But at least he can get an idea of how the rank and file are handling having this idea crammed down their throat.

You’re not going to cram it down mine any more. Fuck you. Have a good life.

The issue has been debunked years ago by "real"climatologists who have been studying the earth for a long time and did not wake up one morning with an epiphany that polution is destroying our atmosphere. The earth has survived the coal stacks of the industrial revolution; it has survived volcanic eruptions which so far more damage to the earths atmosphere than any age of industrial waste and it has survived untold global cahnges over millions of years.

If these bozos want to figure out something perhaps they can put in the time to figure out what really caused species to go extinct. Actually the Non+Polar vortex has been in Siberia since last summer, record smahing heat all across the board, from Northern Norway to the Russia Far East. Arctic temperatures above the circle were in the 80-90's for extended periods, winter has brought temps in the 40-50's with many nightime lows not even reaching the freezing point. I dare say many people claimed this to be global warming, but it was simply the movement of warm air northward, and thus not proof of global warming. But, we must also admit that the polar vortex moving south into the US was simply the movement of cold air and not proof of global cooling. When a weather event brings out those whith political ideologies to attempt the trash climate science, most of us se right throught it. Political ideology is not science, nor is it physics.

The evidence is clear and can not be disputed in reality, in can be disputed in non-reality, but that is another topic all together. Anyways, this polar vottex is a joke, when I was a kid 40 years ago, here in the upper midwest, every winter brought cold snaps of -20 to -35 degrees as a matter of course. Now it is news! Why? Because it so rarely happening now a days. That is why it is news, it is now a rare event, when 3 decades ago, we never mentioned it, because it was typical winter weather. -10 was everyday. -20 was a cold sanp, -30 was what we called very cold. The worst morning I remember was 25 years ago when it was -45 degrees at 6:00 when I left the house to go to work.

Heat waves are now much more common up here than cold snaps. We all know it, so how is that political? The temperatures we can measure and prove are what they are, that is political. That is madness, or has America really gone mad? I sometimes wonder. This is no longer debate is is ideology and politics that is blinding people to a reality that can be measured. I am politically against heat waves, but they still comes, as do record rain events, like one summer ago when we had 20 inches of rain in one 24 hour day. I swear my politics to not agree with that rain event, but it happened never the less.

The more it become undeniable, the more radical become the deniers. I mean really radical. And then there is the PR industry hired by fossil fuels to wage this political campaign. They have won the debate 100%, their victory is recorded in history now, as we dig up tar sands and frack the high plains. I will be hear to revisit this issue when the next El Nino finally comes and breaks the last few years of neutral of cold La Nina conditions. El Nino will release the stored heat from the Pacific oceans that has been stored up for years now. We will have much to talk about in the next El Nino. I feel certain that the deniers will deny this, but the proof is coming and I stand by that coming proof.
