Numerous Explosives Discovered Near Winter Olympics Site

Tyler Durden's picture

Just a few short weeks away, the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympic may go off with a bang, literally, judging by the amount of "terrorist" chatter surrounding the games. Today however, it is more than just chatter: earlier the Russian media reported that Russian security forces had come across multiple unexplained deaths and explosive devices in a region near Sochi, resulting in an aggressive "anti-terrorism sweep."

The developments are bizarre to say the least:

A car with a body inside exploded as police approached it in Russia's Stavropol Territory, reported Russia's state-owned RIA Novosti, citing the Interior Ministry. In the same area, Russian authorities reportedly discovered a car containing the bodies of three men along with explosive material. The day before, two more bodies were found in the same region.

Russian officials are investigating the possible cause and motive for the deaths -- a Russia analyst speculated to ABC News the deaths could be related to organized crime -- but at any rate the mystery and the security sweep add to an already tense situation in southern Russia as the Olympics approach.

One person keeping a close eye on the developments is none other than president Obama, who as we reported yesterday, will unleash an ad blitz for Obamacare around the Olympics. The last thing he will want is for the participants in the games to have need of it. Which is why one can be certain that the NSA and various US security forces are already well aware of any potential sources of terrorism around the games. Sure enough, in a statement of condolences from the White House over the most recent Volgograd bombings, President Obama's National Security Council slipped in an apparent jab at the Russian government over the security situation. "The U.S. government has offered our full support to the Russian government in security preparations for the Sochi Olympic Games, and we would welcome the opportunity for closer cooperation for the safety of the athletes, spectators, and other participants," the NSC statement said."

Some thoughts on who they may be:

Just 10 days ago more than 30 people were killed in dual suicide bombings in Volgograd, Russia, some 400 miles northeast of Sochi. By comparison, Moscow lies more than 850 miles north of Sochi. In October seven people were killed when a suicide bomber detonated explosives on a bus, also in Volgograd. The Stavropol Territory lies approximately halfway between Volgograd and Sochi – approximately 150 miles away from the Olympic site.

No group has publicly claimed responsibility for the bombings, but in the case of the October bus bombing, Russian authorities said the bomber hailed from Dagestan, a restive region in southern Russia to Sochi's east that, along with Chechnya, is home to a violent Islamist insurgency that has fought Russian government forces for decades.

The leader of the insurgency, Doku Umarov, sometimes referred to as "Russia's Osama bin Laden," last June called on his followers to "do their utmost to derail" the Sochi Olympics, which he called a "satanic dance on the bones of our ancestors." In the past Umarov has claimed responsibility for deadly attacks on Russian civilians, including the 2011 bombing of Moscow's Domodedovo airport.

What is far more clear is who is providing the funding and supplies for the Islamists - the same puppetmaster who was behind the Syrian conflict. Recall:

Bandar told Putin, “There are many common values and goals that bring us together, most notably the fight against terrorism and extremism all over the world. Russia, the US, the EU and the Saudis agree on promoting and consolidating international peace and security. The terrorist threat is growing in light of the phenomena spawned by the Arab Spring. We have lost some regimes. And what we got in return were terrorist experiences, as evidenced by the experience of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and the extremist groups in Libya. ... As an example, I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics in the city of Sochi on the Black Sea next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us, and they will not move in the Syrian territory’s direction without coordinating with us. These groups do not scare us. We use them in the face of the Syrian regime but they will have no role or influence in Syria’s political future.”

Putin laughed in Bandar's face, the Saudi natgas pipeline gambit in Syria failed, and as a result the escalation in Sochi is progressing just as Bandar implied it would. Naturally this puts Obama in a tough spot: he can't openly act against Saudi interests once again after alieanting his ally in the region and take out the terrorist camps in Chechnya, but the last thing he would want is to cart home coffins of athletes.

Which means US participants are resorting to Plan B:

the U.S. ski and snowboard team this year will be overseen by a private security firm, which plans to have as many as five aircraft on standby in case of a medical or security emergency in Sochi. "This environment is unique,'' Global Rescue CEO Dan Richards told USA Today Wednesday. "You just don't have competitions in places like Sochi with any frequency. … In the last 10 years, there has been nothing like it.''

William Rathburn, who was the head of Olympic Security during the bombing of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, told ABC News that while he's confident Russian officials "have done everything they can" to secure the upcoming games, the odds of an incident are "very high."

"It's an opportunity for the Chechen [militants] or anyone else to embarrass Russia or [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, I think," he said. "It's far easier to protect against attacks on somebody who might be targeted, a group or country or delegation. [But] it's clear that the people who conducted the two bombings in Volgograd are willing to indiscriminately kill people. It's very difficult to protect against…"

And after last year in which Putin humiliated US and most western foreign policy on virtually every front, the number of people who want to embarass Putin is quite long.

Dear Viewing Public:

We appreciate your interest in the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Games.

Please be advised that this year we are unrolling a new sport in a new venue.

In addition to the usual shooting sports such as the biathlon, athletes will compete in the tetrathlon.

A portion of this event will be held in the new Detonorium located 100 meters below ground.

Pardon our dust as we perform routine testing for this new and exciting competition.

hugs,
IOC

Well after pulling off 9/11 you could say his hubris increased.   But after a decade of escaping wrath of the biggest event of the century, and getting away with stuff for decades, it shouldn't surprise any of us.

Bandar Bin Sultan, the man smoking a victory cigar with Bush on the balcony of the White House at the same time the rubble of the World Trade Center was smoking as well, has many misdeeds he and his predecessors were responsible for over the decades.

The man who took over funding after congress cut off Iran/Contra.  Imagine that, had we done justice in the Iran/Contra scandal, all of the events we've lived through may have not happened.  A world where Bandar Bin Sultan and his predecessors were ostracized and arrested in the 1980's might have played out quite differently from then to now.

Just look currently at Libya, Syria, and Iraq.  All the BAE Oil for Weapons black ops terror slush fund for the past ~three decades.  The mujaheddin against the Soviets.  9/11 might be the biggest, and the potential for problems in Sochi the newest, but they are but two of many operations under Bandar's watch.  Since he's been called by a western moniker before, Bandar Bush, you might as well call him by another one that accurately reflects what he is,  Johnny Terrorseed.

The list goes on and on and new ones continue to pop up.  Degenerate monarchical figures feel above the law.  After all look at all the gov'ts that have been covering up his role in all of this.  How they refuse to connect the dots.   Main components of the oligarchy talk about their crimes and intentions of future crime all the time without anything happening to them.   There's even worse quotes out there now by degenerates like Queen Elizabeth II and her Nazi consort which go far beyond Bandar's threat to Putin.   Yet no one calls those sycophants to account for their bold claims of genocide.  Nor the traditions of thousands of years of empire that they represent which continues.

Releasing the 28 pages was even a campaign promise by Obummer.

We were played so hard by Bandar and Bush that after knowing how a judge was going to rule regarding Saudi Arabia in various court proceedings last decade regarding 9/11, they even professed it had nothing to hide by further inquiries.  Of course now they are playing the 'its difficult to defend against claims from over a decade ago' angle.

Saudi Arabia has been exposed for a long, long time. The media keeps covering for them.  Successive presidents and congresses do as well.  Let alone all the other foreign govt's and the UN.  What could be the harm?

It's not like we didn't fight a few wars, spend a few trillion dollars, kill a million or so, erode our rights, and do the bidding of our attackers, and more... all based on lies.  Oh wait, that's EXACTLY what we did.  It's what we continue to do, and as long as a full accounting doesn't happen, and this group of idiots isn't rooted out and brought to justice, all our future decisions must be questioned of on who's behalf are our actions benefiting?

These issues affect every person on this planet.  Save a few unidentified Amazon tribes.  With the wrong information at hand, even the most righteous person in power can easily make suboptimal decisions.  With degenerates it provides them the cover to act freely and plot more crimes.

Which means any deaths that might occur during the Sochi games, their blood is on (among many others) our Congress, past and current.  On our executive officials past and present.  On our media, past and present.   Because we refuse to identify and confront our attackers and allow them to continue to run roughshod across the globe, which at present is occurring everyday in other places, such as Syria, Libya, Iraq, etc.  We continue to allow the degenerates to lead us into debacle after debacle.  Every drone strike aids in giving Bandar fresh recruits to sow more terror.

Whether it's killing the revival of Glass-Steagall, degenerating our populace from the ideals of innovation, production, and progress to focusing on American Idol, IPhones, social status, and what celeb just went to rehab, from self-sufficiency to dependency,  debasing our currency to cover up fraud and institutionalizing and creating a legal framework of fraud/racketeering/extortion, and the list can go on and on... the same cadre of morons benefit from all the above.   Our nations ideals, it's economic policy, foreign policy, domestic policy, scientific policy, it's entire focus has been shifted from legitimate progress to obfuscation, distraction, and outright fraudulent destruction.   All under our nose.  Much of it out in the open.  It's all interrelated.

Sure it seems to a normal person that Bandar acting that brazen towards Putin is incredibly stupid, but to the lawless crowd, it's just another meeting, another interview.  No doubt he didn't see it as brazen, but as courtesy.  Yes they really are that out of touch and crazy.

The Bush Family and Bandar connection is real and long standing. American conservatives mainly keep silent about this relationship. They were silent when Bush flew all major Saudi citizens to safety as the Twin Towers smoked the stench of death across New York. Republicans wish this fact to be a secret, but we know, what wew want to know is to what end do the Bush Family and Bandar Family remain as one family. To what end Mr. Bush, we would like to know.

Russia has no interest working with the house of saud I don't think in a million years. IF the Saudis actually turn on the US ( as opposed to the US turning on them or the Saudis bitching in the media ) and joined up with Russia ( an impossibility based on Russia's relationship with Iran and Syria ) then the US would flatten them immediately.

As long as the Saudis sell their oil for dollars, the US won't care. On the other hand, look at what happened to a few leaders when they tried to get away from selling their oil for dollars:

- Saddam: Wanted to sell oil for Euros back in 2000. US oh-so-conveniently invades Iraq 3 years later.

- Gaddafi: Wanted to eventually sell oil for gold. US gets into Libya and ousts Gaddafi, quickly ending any possible idea of selling oil for gold.

Ask the Greeks. They were NOT  BOMBED.

The Threat that was touted was, ....... coming from the Palestinians (Whom from all the Europeans the Greeks are the most favoured)

Mind you it cost the Greek Government 1.5 Billion Dollars (For Security towards  American Security Agencies)

And of course NOTHING HAPPENED.

Prince Bandar was speaking on behalf of the United States when he threatened Putin and Putin laughed in his face.  The CIA is probably involved in this:

The bombings have called renewed attention to the discussion held last July between Putin and Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the intelligence chief of the US-backed monarchy in Saudi Arabia, which has served as the main base of support for the Islamist insurgents in Syria.

According to a transcript of the discussion leaked to the media, Bandar demanded that the Russian government terminate all support for the Assad regime in Syria. In return, he offered a joint energy strategy to prop up oil prices and other inducements.

Most critically, the Saudi prince told Putin he could ensure that no terrorist attacks would disrupt the Sochi Olympics.

“I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics in the city of Sochi on the Black Sea next year,” said Bandar. “The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us.”

At the time, Bandar claimed to be speaking not only for the Saudi monarchy, but also for its chief ally, the United States.

Putin rejected the proposed deal, declaring Saudi support for the Russian Islamists unacceptable. He reportedly vowed that Russia would strike a “massive military blow” against terrorist training camps. Some analysts interpreted the remark as a threat of military action against Saudi Arabia itself.

Given that the Saudi prince claimed to be able to turn North Caucasus terrorism on and off like a faucet, the obvious question raised by the latest bombings is whether the Saudi monarchy, acting either in concert with the CIA or independently, has now given the green light for the kind of horrific attacks seen in Volgograd, in retaliation for the reversals suffered by their proxies in Syria.

This purported Bandar quote has been reprinted here more times than I've wiped my ass. But whether it was said or not, the notion that the Saudis control Chechen separatists as a whole is, I promise you, bullshit.  Chechens fought against Russian colonialism when it began and off and on since.  Some Saudi funding doesn't put a leash on them. The Chechens are not Arab puppets.

It's entirely possible, in other words, that....  wait for it.... it's just the fucking Chechens! They are an occupied people, eh?  But its tough to see how hitting the world's athletes advances their cause. Are they that irrational?

What it might be is Mossad trying to frame the Saudis for it.  The recent uptick in the media about Saudi (but not dancing Israeli??) Involvement in 9/11 suggests, at least, that Israel and the neocons want to begin turning the US against S.A. and on this matter I don't necessarily disagree with them.  Of course the level of Israeli/Jewish influence in media, and on our government is beyond alarming. The Syria and Iran lies have been largely a product of Jewish Zionist influence. Period - whether or not that offends you.

In any event, the buzzards are circling the House of Saud, and I'm sure the Israelis would love for the Russians or US/cia to do the heavy lifting.

Israel wants no rivals. And it wants to expand. "A Clean Break" and "Rebuilding America's Defenses" are just updates to Likudnik Israel's 'Oded Yinon' plan.

I usually tune out when I hear "Zionist" this or that, but it is, very much in play in the effort to weaken/fracture Israel's neighbors, no matter the cost in (non-Jewish) blood and treasure.

Israel is an Old Testament Kingdom, and she will cause far, far more death before the end... unless somehow the secular moderates take over. But israeli paranoia and Jewish ethical chauvanism seem unlikely to allow for an Israeli Spring.

I hope I'm wrong. I hate to see regular people and kids suffering because of the bloodlust of idiots and ideologues...

Whether or not Bandar Bush made that comment, the Chechens are a bunch of inbred bandits who have relied on centuries of highway robbery, thuggery and overall non-civilized behavior in order to eke out an existence. They've certainly been radicalized since 2000 and it has Saudi fingerprints all over it.

Thu, 01/09/2014 - 21:10 | 4317711 Johnny Cocknballs

The Chechens are doing and have been doing what, say, the European Jews did in Palestine circa 1910-1950.  And they were just as inbred and just as prone to banditry.  The point is, their outlook stems not from the same post cold war mindless jihadism of the saudis or yemenis.

They were always radicalized.  Inroads by Salafism? They've sure taken their money.

But they're Chechen first. This idea that they are "Sunni extremists" is nice and easy to digest, and helps further villify Saudi Arabia... a nation that should never have not been villified.  There are some Salafists, but for the most part the Chechens are involved in a nationalist struggle.

They don't want to be part of a caliphate - they want to have their own shit.  This is a distinction which is both true for anyone who's had occasion to study the matter, and irrelevant to the dominant narratives in your newspaper.

If you think the MSM is basically controlled - you're right.

My point is the Saudis don't "control" them although I have no doubt they could influence them, or could mix in some of their own people and make it look like it was a Chechen outfit.

But the Chechens gain nothing by these recent bombings and in fact are inviting reprisals from Cossacks and Russian special forces who would be taken off the leash.  And what does Saudi Arabia gain, exactly, other than more Russian support for Syria and Iran and perhaps some Russian subs off their coast?

Do you think Putin would shy away from destroying S.A's refineries? He's probably already told Obama that's on the table. Ivan can't force project quite like us on land, but we don't want to get into it with their subs over Saudi terrorism {if that's what it were... which, as noted, I don't think it is}

No, there is too much anti=Saudi press in the air of late.  The ziocons never liked them, and it was always part of the plan to roll back the House of Saud and divide it into petty states.  Why not now?

This is either our own shadow government's intelligence ops, or Mossad, and there isn't that much of a difference anymore to begin with.

Isn't that right boys?   {kisses!!!}

johnny, though your anti-israely stand cannot but create real sympathy but you're deeply wrong in understanding situation in chechnya now. they are not occupied, de facto they rule themselves, they are actually in cenfederation relations with russia rather federation, russian laws have no power there, chechnya is heavilly subsidized fron central russian budget , chechens are immune to crimes they commit in native russian regions - this is part of the deal between putin and chechen elite - they formally stay in russia, but they enjoy de-facto independence, we pay for peace there and ignore their crimes in russia.

johnny's comments can hardly be categorized as 'anti-israely' as you put it, any more than can they be 'anti-reality'.

Yours on the other hand, are woefully shallow. Your assessment may be superficially accurate at the 'state' level, but it does not drill down to the reality of the individual. I think you understand this as you refer to "part of the deal between putin and chechen elite..."

Chechnya is a 'razors edge'...and that is how it is played by actors at the state level. The realities of 'people', however, is likely much more accurately described by johnny.

As if we don't have enough of our own "Fireworks" both at home and abroad that we're creating for ourselves.

With respect to the "changing of the guard" at this very significant place that starts Armageddon, someone needs to be asking why so many careers in the ICBM community appear to be ending abruptly in scandals?

It couldn't be worse than what we witnessed in August of 2007 with the Minot to Barksdale incident that still hasn't been disclosed with Michael Hayden's departure from the NSA over it and Bob Gates coverup and subsequent mysterious death(s) of airmen and pilots over the six war heads that went missing in that "transition"?

Someone should be investigating Genera Michael Carey's replacement General Jack Weinstein as a first step.  For starters, wonder if General Weinstein has "dual citzenship" as Michael Chertoff, Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz have?  Use to be a violation of Federal Law to have a security clearance if you are a dual citizen but not after G.W.
