Venezuela About To Run Out Of Food Despite Fresh All Time High In Its Stock Market

Tyler Durden's picture

Venezuela can be proud: while the US stock market has gone exactly nowhere in 2014, the Caracas stock exchange of the socialist paradise has continued kicking ass and taking names, just today printing a fresh all time high.

.. And the performance over the past year has been nothing short of breathtaking.

However, as everyone knows, there are trade offs to soaring stock markets in all socialist countries, be they paradises or not. By now everyone knows that Venezuela has had a rather systemic issue when it comes to procuring toilet paper, and from what we understand, the local population is still forced at times to wipe with stock certificates.

Alas, things are about to get worse. As a result of Maduro's recent policies which have Lenin, Stalin and Engels positive beaming from the grave, the country may soon add another shortage to its growing list of daily product in short, or no, supply. Food.

Bloomberg reports that Empresas Polar SA, Venezuela’s largest privately-held company, said in an e-mailed statement that foreign suppliers of food, packaging, and equipment have closed credit lines because of the government’s delays in giving the company dollars at official rate. Empresas added that dollar delays are now the longest since the introduction of currency controls in Feb. 2003.

In other words, with the country doing everything in its power to allocate dollars "fairly" (while making sure nobody has profit margins higher than 30%), very soon the biggest distributors of staples are about to run empty.

Oh well, at least they have their stock market and the "wealth effect"...

And now, in praise of socialist paradises everywhere, let's all sing along:

What?  Krugman says that this is impossible, plenty of soylent green...

That which cannot be sustained, won't be (regardless of how many paper promises you have or "create").

Stupid fucks.

Running out of food is the solution to their running out of toilet paper.

I am sure that most Venezuelans would have preferred a corn dog or two to eat.

Perhaps also some copies of the L A Times, to well, you know...

Samsung is loosing touch..

.. the most recent Samsung DVD player I bought has no discrete RCA analog outputs (needed for low res broadcasting on CH 3/4) and the Galaxy II I have had for only 17 months just gave up the ghost..  the only one out of 20+ mobiles I have owned.

If you ain't eating. you ain't shitting, TP problem solved is right. The ultimate in Marxist/Socialist equality doctrine, there is no misery inequality and everyone is equally food insecure.

Dewey Cheatum Howe's picture

You see how Marxism/Socialism rolls concerning solving inequality, they constrict supply so no one can access it. Except for those doing the constricting. Kind of like how the FED monetary policy works concerning QE... How do you stop boom and bust cycles using monetary policy.

Anyone seeing a pattern here and why stock markets rise in Socialist shit holes. But we aren't one.....

I doubt that Maduro is very food insecure.

Some animals are moar equal than others. You need to read Animal Farm my friend. Someone needs to be the hunter setting the trap first.

There was a chemistry professor in a large college who had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young man, an exchange student who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to over throw his country's government and install a new communist regime. In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked: "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?" The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said that it was no joke. "You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free corn. "When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. "They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side."The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity." The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in America .

The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc., while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time. One should always remember two truths:

There is no such thing as a free lunch, and you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself. If you see that all of this wonderful government "help" is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to send this on to your friends.

If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life, then you will probably delete this email. BUT, God help us all when the gate slams shut!

We are at the part in Venezuela where the gate has been slammed closed and the corn runs out to feed everyone. That is where Marxist equality doctrine comes in well except for the pigs that are moar equal than the rest like Maduro.

This works over and over because of something called Morgan's Canon which states in no case is an animal activity to be interpreted in terms of higher psychological processes if it can be fairly interpreted in terms of processes which stand lower in the scale of psychological evolution and development.

Unless people are willing to engage higher pyschological processes like using your fucking brain and critically thinking to see the trap being set and recognize it while also excerising the ultimate freedom that no government can regulate of a free mind which is refusing to give consent because of recognition in the first place. Enough do then the trap doesn't work anymore. It is the difference between being a human being or an intelligent animal.

And with $12 milk and $6 a pound beef coming to America soo, someone in America's centrally planned paradise is going to have to increase the EBT allocations soon, or we might be joining the global riot club too!!!

Some great recipes.

$6 a pound beef?  What cut are you buying, the tongue?

Colonel Klink's picture

We're already at $6 a gallon milk and $12 a pound beef.  Try $10 a gallon milk and $20 a pound beef.

For the good stuff.  Sure you can find cheaper but it's mass produced with whoremoans (sic) and unhealthy processes.

Yep. I caught roughly 50 pounds of organic, steroid free meat in one morning this past weekend. My cost was $20 in gas and $3.50 in snares. I sold one beaver to an old black fella at the boat ramp for $10. That covered half my gas.

not to mention that subsidies don't just come out of thin air; people are paying through inflation and taxes for the subsidies to farmers so tack that on to the 'mkt' price.
