Russia Threatens With Pulling Bailout As Ukraine Government Resigns
Mykola Azurov, the prime minister of Ukraine, (and his cabinet) has resigned. The move comes as the government faced losing a no confidence vote and being stripped off their power. It seems the opposition (pro-Europe) are gaining momentum once again as the Ukraine also repealed the controversial anti-protest laws that created more tension last week. The Russians are not amused and have warned that they may reconsider the $15 billion bailout offer if the current government is removed. The Ukrainian Hryvnia is continuing its collapse on this news and has dropped towards record lows (though bonds are rallying).
The opposition is clearly gaining momentum...
Mykola Azarov, the prime minister of Ukraine, submitted his resignation on Tuesday hours before he risked being stripped of his powers in a vote of no confidence in Parliament. His offer to quit was the latest sign of the building momentum of the opposition in the ongoing crisis.
In another concession to the opposition, the pro-government political party in Parliament, the Party of Regions, voted together with the opposition to repeal most of the laws in a package of rules limiting free speech and assembly the lawmakers had passed just a week earlier.
...
One elderly woman in a kerchief giddily told the Ukrainian channel 5 television after Mr. Azarov’s resignation, “Thank God you heard us!”
But the Russians are not happy (via WSJ):
Russia may reconsider its $15 billion bailout offer to Ukraine if the current government is removed, a senior official said Tuesday, hours after Ukraine's prime minister offered his resignation in an effort to calm a growing protest movement. "There is no decision yet, but it is self-evident," that further distributions of the loan would be reviewed if the government of Mykola Azarov was to be dissolved, the official said speaking on condition of anonymity.
However, this is far from over...
Opposition leaders have so far called the president's concessions "too little too late," and appear to be in no mood to compromise with him as protesters have seized government buildings in the west and center of the country.

Ukraine is an energy exporter (electricity) but they do use more than they produce, it's one potential Achilles Heel of many that's true
The Electricity production of Ukraine is 198 ( billions of kWh)
http://www.marketinfo.dk/index.php/markets/ukraine/energy-sector-ukraine
production = 198 _billions of kWh imports = 1.89 _billions of kWh exports = 3.85 _billions of kWh net export = 1.96 _billions of kWhThe residential price is 0.2802 grn/kwh, at 8.2_grh/USD = 0.3417 USD/KWH
Something wrong with your math there, Comrade Stalin.
1 UAH = ~$0.12 (12 cents, more or less). If the price per KWH is about 0.28 UAH/KWH, then 1 KWH should be about $0.0336 (3.4 cents/KWH, rounded off). Your calculations are off by a factor of 10.

One of the most inspirational videos seen in quite some time.
This should be done to those that support corrupt Regimes that try to take freedoms away.
Seems like cold shower is "brutal assault" according to RT.
I think those EU commie molotov cocktail throwing assholes should be shot on the spot for treason, Ukraine has had its independence since 1990 or so, I'd give them another 20-30 years before throwing in the towel , abandoning sovereignty and joining the broke Socialist lazy euroweenies.
The EU is bankrupt and bank seizures and Socialist "collections" are coming (the looting has already occurred), there is no escape for the wealth of the EU, its already been spent.
The coments on this site

Putin has announced that Russia will support whatever government is left in Ukraine.
Thinks the country is still his bitch.
In Russia...
The bank bails you...out of the front door.
Let the EU open its doors to the Ukraine people if not their land.
eh? plenty of Ukrainians all over the EU
WSJ is spreading disinformation. Here is Russian response to the Ukrainian government changes:
Putin: Russia ready to support Ukraine, regardless of govt
In the other news:
Ukraine plans to introduce a border entry fee for citizens of the EU, U.S. and Canada
(original in Russian, the above link is to a computer translation)
Jorgen
As per your usual informative and significant to what the American and EU Sheeple don't know or don't care to know what there Government(s) are doing in the Ukraine.
The capstone of Putin's speech tells the whole story rather well, raising the question to the EU members how they would feel if a Russian foreign secretary or appointed diplomat were to stand on a smoldering pile of rubble and through violence his own government instigated with it's money in places like Crete or Greece protesting the crackdown of military police on the people that were looted of their own money!???
Bravo Putin!
I am an American who lives in Ukraine (as well as Scotland and Switzerland).
The Western media has presented a very slanted view of the situation here. It is only a small group of people in Ukraine (mainly in Kiev and the far western cities such as Lvov) that supports enhanced relations with the EU. The rest of Ukraine opposes any kind of integration with the EU, as they fear the fate that befell Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Ireland, etc. I should add that they fear any kind of integration with Russia as well - they remember the starvation of millions of Ukrainians caused by the 1930's confiscations of food by Russia!
The Ukraine people are fiercely independent and possess a strong national identity. They do not like to be told what to do - even by their own government! For example, if the central government in Kiev imposes new rules on businesses, the cities and towns generally simply IGNORE these dictates, as do the people. They view ALL politicians as CORRUPT, whether EU, Ukrainian, Russian or whatever. THey greatly value their freedom - in my opinion, far more so than the American or British people. The attitude of the people here is something like: "So YOU say. Come and try to force me comply, then see what happens!"
If any flag was best suited to the UKrainian people, it would be the "Don't Tread on me" flag of the American revolution.
- An American in Ukraine
Addendum: Any American who is fed up with living in the U.S. police state should come to Ukraine. You will receive a warm welcome from the Ukraine people and from the many expatriates from the U.S., Britain, Ireland and many other countries. Plus your cost of living will be about 1/5 to 1/10 of that of living in the U.S. And don't worry about the language differences - a huge percentage of the people speak English here.
You seem to forget that millions of Russians, Belorussians, Poles and other nationalities living in the territory of the former Soviet Union also perished because of communism. Holodomor had nothing to do with Russian nationalism but everything to do with the evil of Stalin and his ilk.
Having a friend in Kiev, I concur with the other things you wrote that majority of Ukrainians are not in rush to join EU.
The Holodomor was implemented by Lazar Kaganovitch. He and most of his acolytes were Jewish. Ukrainians have not forgotten that.
I agree, this is only basically Kiev and west..
Those families in Kiev and area I know of are strongly opposed to the whole protest from the start....but these are real Ukrainians, not poles and don't sit on their ass but achieve...
If I may ask, where in Ukraine is your home?
News out of Russia today refutes this whole story. Putin told the EU that it will continue to bailout Ukraine with the 15 billion in cash promised. Saying Europe does not need new dividing lines, Putin said they will pay for Ukraine no matter the government situation. While the EU is paying protestors a reported 30 Euro a day in support money while they are on the protest lines, Russia continues to pay Ukrainian pensions and public workers salaries, along with school funding, day care and health care costs. As of now, Putin says Russia will continue to meet these Ukrainian needs. Perhaps because 1/2 of Ukraine is Ethnic Russian, or strongly pro Russia, the Russian state refuses to punish the general public for the protests in the West.
Should Russia change it's mind, in the event of armed conflict, then Russia will continue to fund the Crimea, the East and South of Ukraine as this is where their support is near unbreakable. I only see trouble if the pro west forces begin killing the pro Russian and ethnic Russian half of the population. That would be civil war, and then all bets are off.
Meanwhile all the EU offers is the 30 Euro protest payments. While Russia funds the Ukrainian state, which is bankrupt and has a sinking economy. The EU is in a high state of excitment over their take over of Ukraine, on French TV, they are showing maps of Ukraine as wholly absorbed into the EU and NATO. The French are dreamers, they have power complexes that will not come true.
You are right. All Russia needs to do is keep paying the bills while Western sponsored troublemakers are shown burning the country to the ground. It will be just like Syria all over again and world opinion will bolster Putin's grip. The IQ drop in Western covert warfare has dropped exponentially in the past 15 years. We are now playing Checkers while Russia is still playing Chess.
Yes..Russia has chosen keep to the high ground....
but real study of VV Putin shows this consistent pattern.
No matter what lying west media claims
Russia shows credibility.
"the EU is paying protestors a reported 30 Euro a day in support money while they are on the protest lines"
Yes, some are paid. No, it's not the EU.
I wish you realize soon that it's not two sides only. And the Russian sources, while accurate on some angles, leave blind spots galore
France, btw, is one of the coutries that at gov level is against EU enlargement. The UK is pro-enlargement
