Edward Snowden Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize

Tyler Durden's picture

Just five years after President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace prize (to much global amazement), Norwegian politicians have nominated none other than Edward Snowden for this year's award for contributing to transparency and global stability by exposing a U.S. surveillance program. As Reuters reports, Snowden’s "actions have in effect led to the reintroduction of trust and transparency as a leading principle in global security policies."

Via Reuters,

The public debate and changes in policy that have followed in the wake of Snowden’s whistleblowing have contributed to a more stable and peaceful world order,” Norwegian parliamentarians Snorre Valen and Baard Vegar Solhjell said in the nomination letter obtained by Bloomberg.

...

There’s no doubt that the actions of Edward Snowden may have damaged the security interests of several nations in the short term,” said Valen and Solhjell, who was environment minister in the former Labor-led government. Snowden’s “actions have in effect led to the reintroduction of trust and transparency as a leading principle in global security policies.”

...

Valen and Solhjell, who represent the Socialist Left Party in the Norwegian parliament, also said that they “don’t necessarily condone or support all of his disclosures.”

The Nobel Committee accepts nominations from members of national assemblies, governments, international courts, professors and previous laureates. It received a record 259 nominations for last year’s prize. While the nominees are kept secret for 50 years, names are sometimes disclosed by the nominators. The prize winner will be announced in October.

Is this the Nobel's last best effort to regain some credibility?

If they want to regain credibility then they need to put in a mechanism for revoking previously awarded prizes. Until they build their 'wall of shame' they are nowhere near credible

Manning did what Snowden did and he/she didn't run away.

He/she willingly faced military justice without the benefit of the media circus and the tsunami of support Snowden would have gotten if he stayed put.

Manning is now rotting in prison, not smiling on television.

Snowden did not put Manning in prison, Obama did.  Manning's heroism doesn't diminish because of what Snowden did, nor the other way around.  Obama would have Snowden locked up, tortured and held incommunicado if he set foot in the US, the same as he did to Manning -- why should Snowden come back?

by the way: FREE MANNING!

Is Edward Snowden a hero or traitor? One thing is clear the internal system for whistle blowing inside government is broken. It is interesting to see what strange bedfellows politics make as people can come down on either side of this issue depending on past statements or which way the wind is blowing. We are easily distracted from the crux of the issue, whether the program needs to exist, and if the mind boggling amount of money being spent on collecting and saving mountains of data could be put to better use. More on why the NSA needs to be put under tighter control below

AdvancingTime...the question has been answered.

Snowden is the greatest private citizen-hero we have had in a long long time.

You can thank him for securing our democracy from the police-state aspirations of our two-bit President and his corporate masters.

Thank you, Mr. Snowden.  You have saved our Republic.

(Damn!  2000 Citizens are killed by 18 Saudi Nationals on 9/11...and for that we tear up our own Constitution?!  Are you Fucking kidding ME!)

Yup. And if I'm not mistaken, around 30k people are killed every month in the US in car accidents.

Same thing, though. Out of that 30k, only a couple of dozen are actually intended to die. The other 29k+ are just a smokescreen to cover up the murders. Same thing with 9/11 - they wanted to kill half a dozen people, but covered it up with the disaster.

Sweden gave Obama the Peace Prize.  Under Obama USA carried out war against Iraq, Afganistan, Lybia, Somalia, drone attacks in Pakistan, ...

Every 5 minutes a muslim rapes a Swedish woman.  Every week they burn down a school.  80% of muslims are on welfare and have 8.1 kids per woman.  They are breeding an army within Sweden for the purpose of conquering Sweeden. They carry on an endless program of murdering Swedish men, gang raping swedish girls as young as 2 years old, kidnaping them and selling them as sex slaves,..

In  Turkey the muslims issued extermination orders through the mosques when their populaton had risen to the point where they could kill off the rest of the population.  See Armenian genocide.  These were Christians who had a live ans let live attitude toward muslims.  Much as present day Europe and USA. The Armenians were subject to the whims of their Turkish and Kurdish neighbors, who would regularly overtax them, subject them to brigandage and kidnapping, force them to convert to Islam, and otherwise exploit them without interference from central or local authorities.

Country,  Muslim population, Muslim %, % of World Muslim population:

Every 5 minutes a muslim rapes a Swedish woman.

Hmm.. that's 12 rapes an hour, 288 per day, 2,016 per week, and over 100,000 per year.

Except Sweden - which, due in part to a very broad definition of rape and a policy of encouraging women to report all and any attacks, has the highest reported incidence of rape in Europe, and 2nd highest in the world - has a rate of 63 rapes per 100,000 inhabitants, and with roughly 10,000,000 citizens, this works out to 6300 rapes per year, or about 3 weeks' worth at this blowhard's estimate.

I suspect every statistic cited by this troll is similarly bogus. How credulous are the people who gave him upvotes?!

So many deluded by the Snowden affair.

He is a CIA slave on a psy op.

What do you know about him, except what the MSM told you?

The Snowden affair was presented to the public by The Guardian and Washington Post.

Are you that blind?

Did his "revelations" reveal something about 9/11? No?

Thought so.

Snowden should be asked:

1) - do you believe the official version of 9/11

2) - if not, who do you think did it

His answers will tell you who he works for.

Did his "revelations" reveal something about 9/11?  YES!

Snowden's revelations showed us how the events of 9/11 lead to the overstep by our Government in the name of national security.  Namely, he showed us that the 4th amendment was trashed by those leaders and officials under the cover of fighting terrorism.

Snowden exposed a private contractor run system willing to secretely advance a campaign of illegal domestic surveillance that not even the members of the Senate Select Intelligence committee could reveal even though at least two members had wished to.

Spare me the blah blah...it showed us etc...etc... many knew before Snowden that Google and Microsoft and ATT and others were spying for the NSA.

My question was: did his "leaks" revelead who was behind 9/11?

Do you really think a highschool dropout gets hired by the CIA and paid 200K+ a year to do what exactly? Be a sys admin?!!

Do you honestly think that The Elite who control the MSM, would allow the MSM (did I mention that the elites own and control the MSM) to present to the public a real whistleblower's documents??

I don't claim to know what the psyop is and who is the target. But the whole shit with Snowden and his "persona" doesn't smell right.

Well they should take it back from Obama first, and from all the other mass murders before. Then one might considereing taking them serious again. Peace nobel prize for Obama and EU, it can't get much worse. Maybe Kim Il Yong would be the obvious new winner. He has just slaughereted large parts of his familey and take a whole  nation hostage. Does sound like the wet dreams of Obama to me, and he has got this "price"....

President Bush and Obama violated the "General Warrants" restrictions in our Fourth Amendment right of privacy in our Constitution!! We are currently the most information collected group of citizens by Central Government in this world. Snowden sounds to me like Nathan Hale!

And we've been assisting Sunni Terror in the Middle East. (They are the ones that took the World trade Center down and hit the Boston marathon!) And Sunni terror is the primary excuse they use for NSA's collection!! Go figure!
