Initial Jobless Claims Miss; Back To Levels First Seen 6 Months Ago

Tyler Durden's picture

The trend that was so many momentum-chasing bulls friend for so long has ended. The steady downward drift in jobless claims - all noise, debt-ceiling, winter storm, and software glitches aside - has ended. Initial claims rose 19k this week, missed expectations by the most in 6 weeks, and jumped to the same levels seen 6 months ago. The Labor Department says "nothing unusual" about this week's data but noted one state 'estimated' claims last week. Total benefit rolls dropped by 16k this week (back under 3 million) as emergency claimants remains "0".

For those of the "seasonals are to blame" persuasion... this is the worst start to the year since the financial crisis...

Hey, I've got an idea!  Let's make all those illegal aliens citizens?

Yeah, that'll help.

Thanks GOP.

kralizec's picture

Problem solved!  Bring in the hookers!

Sudden Debt's picture

These big unemployment numbers are not because those illegal aliens. They only take a shitty jobs.

The real cause of unemployment is TEMP JOBS.

A employer can kick anybody out whenever they don't need you and hire you the next day. That cause them to become BAD PLANNERS and forecasters..

John Law Lives's picture

We know damn well what is behind this push by GOP leadership.  Corporate CEOs want illegals currently living in the "shadows" to come out into the daylight and spend $$$ more freely and legitimately enter the labor force etc.  They believe legalizing the illegals begets more consumption and more (legal) cheap labor.  It's all about bucks.  The rest is just conversation.

No shit. I felt sort of guilty signing up but WTF, I paid in massive amounts over the years.

I'm learning things about people (there are some really good people willing to help) and myself. Made a quarter million dollars back in 2008 and have done well over the years, now I'm looking over job ads.  Taken from a different perspective life can be quite a ride.

and protect me from all far, so good.

There is an opening in the initial jobless claims department this a.m..

Gold is getting a assfuck once again... must be for Bernies fairwell party...

After enough times, one kind of gets used to it.  It's certainly not any fun, but it doesn't hurt as much.

OT-Exxon-mobile reports further declines in production, marking seven years of declining production now.  Anyone doubting peak oil might want to have a look at this very thorough, yet succinct, summary from last year on the declining oil production by all the majors in the industry.  It's hard to overestimate how significant this may turn out to be historically.

Jobless claims go up, and of course gold and silver get attacked by swarms of monkeys armed with shiny new, government issued, Mark 1 Type 2, hammers, hand.

Tic-toc,tic-toc...  A ticking clock in the COMEX vault.  This will be hilarious to watch.

Bearwagon's picture

If you gold vanishes in a vault, and rematerializes in another vault, without anyone nearby to hear it - does it make a sound?!

Kaiser Sousa's picture

ofcourse all this great economic data explains the same old bullshit happening again, and again....

The chinese are going to teach our central banksters a lesson by letting them unwittingly commit seppuku with their gold holdings.  Thankfully, they are rapidly running out of wiggle room.  Today should be another interesting one.  Anyone out there crazy enough to short AMZN yet?  They report earnings today.

Are you singing that to the tune of "Tea for 2" Mr. what-do-you-get-when-you-cross-a-cheerleader-a-potato-and-a-shark?

Will you take a few of my bonds in exchange for some of yours?  That way we can write a pile of CDSs on each other and go to the Fed and say we are too big to fail and get bailed out.  Then we turn around and sue them for more for bailing us out.  We will be rich I tell you.  Fabulously wealthy.

This is the strangest employment environment I have ever seen, and this goes back to the last recession (late 70s).

The Lord has been kind.

What losers are creating this numbers? Can't we at least expect that a jobless-claim statistic that's completely pulled out of someones ass fulfills expectations? If you have to make up the numbers at all - why not do it right? That doesn't make much sense ...

Quinvarius's picture

That was probably the "improved" number.

who cares about people out of work, all that matters is that amzn and goog have all erased there losses for the week in 1 day, and fuckbook and twitter are up like 30 percent on bullshit.

fuckbook and twitter will lead this country back on the right foot, who cares about an important company like ups missing.

That last part looks like the xray of my leg, speaking of which I went against i_call_you_my base_advice.

I wouldn't mix laxatives and diarrhea medication. It's like a fecal speedball.

I took a nap before my surgery and had a nightmare,my wife said if I ever got shit faced again she would leave and then I was on the operating table and shit everywhere. The workers in room got even with me by wiping it on my face, taking a video and posting it on youtube under the title "Nightshiftsucks shit faced again" So when I woke up I imediately popped and imodium.I know that doing it was almost as dangerous as doing the "Iron Lotus" but I felt I had no choice.I feel very fortunate that it worked out for me with the exception of lots of loud but not smelly farts and a very sore leg. Thanks everyone for their input on that post.
