Third Banker, Former Fed Member, "Found Dead" Inside A Week

Tyler Durden's picture

If the stock market were already crashing then it would be simple to blame the dismally sad rash of dead bankers in the last week on that - certainly that was reflected in 1929. However, for the third time in the last week, a senior financial executive has died in what appears to be a suicide. As Bloomberg reports, following the deaths of a JPMorgan senior manager (Tuesday) and a Deutsche Bank executive (Sunday), Russell Investments' Chief Economist (and former Fed economist) Mike Dueker was found dead at the side of a highway in Washington State. Police said the death appeared to be a suicide.

Via Bloomberg,

Mike Dueker, the chief economist at Russell Investments, was found dead at the side of a highway that leads to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington state, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. He was 50.

He may have jumped over a 4-foot (1.2-meter) fence before falling down a 40- to 50-foot embankment, Pierce County Detective Ed Troyer said yesterday. He said the death appeared to be a suicide.

Dueker was reported missing on Jan. 29, and a group of friends had been searching for him along with law enforcement. Troyer said Dueker was having problems at work, without elaborating.

Dueker was in good standing at Russell, said Jennifer Tice, a company spokeswoman. She declined to comment on Troyer’s statement about Dueker’s work issues.

But as Michael Snyder noted recently, if the stock market was already crashing, it would be easy to blame the suicides on that.  The world certainly remembers what happened during the crash of 1929...

Historically, bankers have been stereotyped as the most likely to commit suicide. This has a lot to do with the famous 1929 stock market crash, which resulted in 1,616 banks failing and more than 20,000 businesses going bankrupt.

The number of bankers committing suicide directly after the crash is thought to have been only around 20, with another 100 people connected to the financial industry dying at their own hand within the year.

Dueker had also been a research economist at the St. Louis Fed:

He published dozens of research papers over the past two decades, many on monetary policy, according to the St. Louis Fed’s website, which ranks him among the top 5 percent of economists by number of works published. His most-cited work was a 1997 paper titled “Strengthening the case for the yield curve as a predictor of U.S. recessions,” published by the reserve bank while he was a researcher there.

So, with stocks a mere 4% off their highs, are so many high ranking and well respected bankers committing suicide?

When you look at all the crimes committed by these banks, Libor, London whale, Madoff, gold manipulation, and every other crime we don't even know about, and to top it off they just pay fines under Obama and his hood friends in DOJ...

How can anyone be surprised when we see mob hits on bankers? I'm sure they are ordered right from the top.

Here's the problem. These people know better than anyone what they really are, it finally makes them feel like they should die. I've known people like this, who have attained large sums of wealth, not by skill but by cheating, and they suddenly one day shoot themselves or throw themselves off a building. We all know right from wrong, and being a cretin is not a happy existence.

Thats whats scary about sociopaths.  When they make it to the top, they STILL don't feel empathy or remorse.  But, they CAN fake it!

Absolutely correct on all points. Sociopaths are not only destructive, they are self-destructive. They live a life only to steal, cheat, lie and dominate everyone around them so they can be perceived as the top. By everyone, I mean everyone. Acquaintences, workers, friends, family, everyone is fair game to be fleeced. If successful, their malevant lifestyle is reinforced and becomes their MO for the rest of their life. They never change. They never learn, They just continue to consume. If their plans unravel, they do what they have always done, even though it has failed. They double down or go all in on the same destructive lifestyle. It's in their DNA. It's why so many end up self-destructing. They can't face the fact that they have failed and the world is about to know it. So they often escape accountability by suicide. All sociopaths really have a deep seated inferiority complex that they overcompensate for with their aggressive (often passive agressive) lifestyle to dominate everything and everyone. The consumate con man. Their fear of failure knows no limits, so their compensation to overcome this fear is off the charts. That is why they are so dangerous. No norms of society can control them. They plot continuously to avoid the norms of society so society will never find them out. It's really twisted circular logic that governs them. They are not pyscopaths. They know they live in reality, hence they know right from wrong. So don't feel sorry for them, anymore than you would for any common criminal.

You have pointed to the real origin of this try-to-make-it-look-plauible suicide. We are witnessing the spasms of the sociopath collective under stress. When things look shakey, you need to keep your cool and trust that others will do likewise. But trust is what they lack, both in themselves and their peers. So dear for their colleages, its off to the embankment. Or a roadside tree. Or a bath with a convenient toaster rack.

You are describing my brother-in-law to a tee. He killed himself late last year. He was worth 35 million, but in the end he felt alone and disconnected to everything and very very bad about himself. He shot himself through the head in the backyard of his beautiful milti-million dollar house. He left a note and in it was clear that he thought everyone would be happy he was gone, even though his wife was devastated.

Just part of the Keynesian conspiracy; this is what Keynes himself said about it:

"By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens. By this method, they not only confiscate, but they confiscate arbitrarily; and, while the process impoverishes many, it actually enriches some. The sight of this arbitrary rearrangement of riches strikes not only at security, but at confidence in the equity of the existing distribution of wealth. Those to whom the system brings windfalls . . . become 'profiteers', who are the object of the hatred of the bourgeoisie, whom the inflationism has impoverished not less than the proletariat. As the inflation proceeds . . . all permanent relations between debtors and creditors, which form the ultimate foundation of capitalism, become so utterly disordered as to be almost meaningless." From pages 220-233 of The Economic Consequences of the Peace (1919), by John Maynard Keynes

TPTB have many of you right where they want you. The Banker is having "problems" at work but the Company's Representative saya that he wasn't.

Isn't that a "Red Flag" that might indicate that the Company offed him because he "knew too much" and was set to expose it?

So they poorly stage a suicide. The evidence is buried so that the fraud might continue.

And you all buy into the "Official Story", writing that you want ALL of these fuckers dead, with the result that the fraud can continue.

(Actually I want them investigated and prosecuted before they are actually NAILED TO CROSSES. Hangings and Beheadings by Guillotines are just too quick.)

TPTB plays you like a well tuned piano.

They've killed a lot of whistleblowers and you are so happy about it. There are no investigations.

The Narcissistic Psychopath does not kill themselves. They do not feel any guilt or remorse for anything that they have done.

If this man was criminal and guilt caused his actions then he was not a Narcissistic Psychopath.

My bet was that he was going to expose a fraud and his partners had him killed.

Of course Washington State Police are probably paid off and complicit. Corruption runs deeper than it did during the Great Depression.

I guess the pain of knowing they fucked over 95% of mankind was too much to bear, and they are killing themselves.

Either that or there is foul play involved, but knowing the ethical circles in which bankers interact, that simply could never be the case.

Foul play--we have already observed that people at top have no conscience whatsoever.  They don't even realize their own anti-social behaviors and the effects that they have.  Of course, maybe these were the underlings who could not quite aspire to those top roles.

(Assuming it was only a suicide) When a man realizes that his life has been wasted practicing necromancy and functioning as shill for despots, it's not uncommon for a man to take his own life.  I'd just advise that, instead of suicide, that he don a white hat and fight the good fight.

I'm sure these have all been great men and will be sorely missed.

Anyone have a link where I can send a donation to help out these poor, poor families?

The Milwaukee company that owns Russell Investments said Monday that a sale is being considered as one of the options for the Seattle financial services company's future. 1/27/13

Seems like someone was checking the books. He died on 1/29/13

I speculate that perhaps questions were being asked that he preferred to not answer. Easy way out, wife and family get to keep the ill gotten gains and his crimes, if he did indeed commit any, are just a blurble in history.
