4th Financial Services Executive Found Dead; "From Self-Inflicted Nail-Gun Wounds"

Tyler Durden's picture

The ugly rash of financial services executive suicides appears to have spread once again. Following the jumping deaths of 2 London bankers and a former-Fed economist in the US, The Denver Post reports Richard Talley, founder and CEO of American Title, was found dead in his home from self-inflicted wounds - from a nail-gun. Talley's company was under investigation from insurance regulators.

Via The Denver Post,

Richard Talley, 57, and the company he founded in 2001 were under investigation by state insurance regulators at the time of his death late Tuesday, an agency spokesman confirmed Thursday.

It was unclear how long the investigation had been ongoing or its primary focus.

A coroner's spokeswoman Thursday said Talley was found in his garage by a family member who called authorities. They said Talley died from seven or eight self-inflicted wounds from a nail gun fired into his torso and head.

Also unclear is whether Talley's suicide was related to the investigation by the Colorado Division of Insurance, which regulates title companies.

...

A checkered past?

Before coming to Colorado, Talley was a former regional financial officer at Drexel Burnham Lambert in Chicago, where he met his wife, Cheryl, a vice president at the company. The two married in 1989.

Talley had formed a number of companies, some now defunct, according to the Colorado secretary of state's office. Among them: American Escrow, Clear Title, Clear Creek Financial Holdings, Swift Basin, Sumar, American Real Estate Services, and the American Alliance of Real Estate Professionals.

It would appear, unfortunately, that Mr. Talley was not an entirely honest man...

Talley's 1989 wedding announcement in the Chicago Tribune noted he was "a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic swimming team."

A spokeswoman for USA Swimming on Thursday said Talley was not on the team.

Depends on the nail gun.

If it was the compressed air type, it's plausible to empty the clip into your head. The safety release would be held by the mass of your head, and you just have to jam 2 fingers in the trigger slot. Some of them can fire so fast that 50 nails can be gone in a few seconds.

The gas explosion type on the other hand... not so much. The combustion chamber takes a while to fill before it fires. They're typically only 1 nail every couple of seconds.

Nope. They don't work like that. Mine (Hitachi, one of the most popular on the market), either needs a trigger pull for every shot, or it can go into a mode where if you hold the trigger it will fire every time the bump plate is fully depressed. It has to reset for every shot in either mode. No full auto is possible.

I agree dryam... it's starting to get a bit of an aroma... and suddenly become a regular occurance as well. Does the manner in which these people are alledgely taking their pwn lives seem just a little macabre, when put in context of taking your own life, seem odd to anyone else here?

Why choose such complicated and 'risky' methods (ie: could easily not be successful) in which to dispose of yourself... especially if there's a chance a family may have to endure the scares and horror of actually finding you post the deed. Why would you do that?

A nail gun... to the abdomin... and the head... 7 or 8 times... seriously?? You're already in the garage according to the report... close the doors into the garage, turn the car, take a seat, choose a suitable sound track on the stereo... and then relax.

Odd

Artie Lange stabbed himself 9 times with a 13 inch knife... he was hesitant on the first stab, the rest were full plunges.

Addicted to heroin and gambling and hookers, Lange hit bottom in 2010 with a truly gruesome suicide attempt. Reaching for his fifth slice of pizza, Lange casually notes it happened in this very room. He chugged from a bottle of bleach, stabbed himself in the stomach nine times and slit his wrists.

Decorated OKC police officer Terrance Yeakey is another example.  After Terry tortured himself, he dragged himself into a field, shot himself in the back of the head, and then chucked the gun.  There is no disputing that he was very distressed over finding unexploded bombs in the federal building when he arrived as first responder; his record of public statements makes that clear (as well as much more).

These bankers, all Protestant, were deeply involved in the agitations leading up to the French Revolution. When the revolutionary violence got out of hand, they orchestrated the rise of Napoleon, whom they regarded as the restorer of order. As a reward for their support, Napoleon, in 1800, gave these bankers a monopoly over French finance by giving them control of the new Bank of France.[1]

Jim Willie says there is a hit list with 43 more bankers on it.  Apparently these guys were going to cooperate with the cops on some huge investigation into forex fraud, the Vatican helping the Mafia launder drug money, and some ripoff involving the Bush crime family and a secret Nazi cabal.  Can only find a blurb from Willie.  Hopefully he is working on one of his trademark epic rants.

Withholding judgement for now.  I don't know which is more bullshit:  a 7-shot suicide by nailgun, or this idea that the cops would ever give the bankers the treatment they deserve.  If this investigation is a threat worthy of the bankers killing so many of their own, then why are the cops saying these murders are suicides?  That only happens when the cops are bought off, as usual.

Something obviously has the puppetmasters spooked though.  Maybe it is people higher up the pyramid pre-emptively whacking minions who show signs of accidentally growing a soul.  Score one for the NSA.

Talley died from seven or eight self-inflicted wounds from a nail gun fired into his torso and head.

Americans are fools if they do not begin to suspect every event suspicious of the growing tyranny. Perhaps Joseph Heller (“Catch-22”) meant his comment to be funny: “Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t after you,” but the comment these days is deadly serious.

All the jokes and guffaws about conspiracy theory and CIA assassins under the rock have turned out to be mighty serious subjects for we are learning every day that not only are we watched but we are controlled.

And when a man who may have dangerous information is found dead along the highway and another with repeated wounds from a nail gun, et cetera, we’re just whistling past the graveyard if we do not raise our hackles.

You know the worst part about getting shot with a nail gun?  I'd say it has to be the nails.

A guy I knew was on a ladder, 10 feet in the air, nailing sheathing over a loft wall to create rooms for a B&B in their house.  The nailgun was set to repeat shots, he hit a board, the gun jumped, and he nailed the webbing between his thumb and forefinger to the wall.  His wife was not home and he was standing on top of the ladder.  Luckily he had a hammer on his belt, so he dropped the nailgun, pried the nail out, and climbed down.  He said that if he hadn't had the hammer on his belt he didn't think he could have pulled his hand free and figured he'd pass out and fall off the ladder, solving the problem.  No mention of what the wife said...

he knew too much

He worked for the company that invented CDOs (and was a hotbed of insider trading).

"Before coming to Colorado, Talley was a former regional financial officer at Drexel Burnham Lambert in Chicago, where he met his wife, Cheryl, a vice president at the company. The two married in 1989"

Drexel Burnham Lambert:

1986: Dennis B. Levine, a Drexel banker, pleads guilty to securities fraud as a major insider trading scandal erupts. Drexel becomes Wall Street's most profitable firm, with earnings of $545 million on revenues of more than $4 billion.

1987: Ivan F. Boesky, a leading arbitrageur and Drexel client, pleads guilty to fraud and begins cooperating with the Federal Government, further expanding the insider-trading scandal.

September 1988: In a civil complaint, the Securities and Exchange Commission accuses Drexel and Mr. Milken of insider trading, stock manipulation, and assisting in tax law violations.

December 1988: Drexel agrees to plea guilty to six criminal counts of mail and securities fraud that will be filed by the SEC. As part of the settlement, Drexel agrees to remove Mr. Milken from his position and $650 million in fines.

January 1989: SEC files six felony counts of mail and securities fraud against Drexel.

February 1989: Mr. Milken formally challenges provisions of the Drexel plea-bargaining agreement that calls for his dismissal and withholding of his pay and compensation for 1988.

March 1989: Federal grand jury indicts Mr. Milken on criminal racketeering charges and seeks $1.8 billion in forfeitures from Mr. Milken and other defendants.

April 1989: Drexel and the SEC reach a settlement of civil charges. The settlement caps a a two-and-a-half year investigation that began with Mr. Boesky's testimony. Drexel names John Shad, former head of the SEC as its chairman.

US to hit 17.2 Trillion dollar Debt Limit Friday

On Saturday, the debt limit will reset to the current U.S. debt, which is about $17.3 trillion.

At that point, the Treasury Department will begin a series of measures designed to extend its borrowing authority. But Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew has warned those moves only will allow borrowing until the end of the month.

I love a good conspiracy, but initially the thought of some hit team "taking out the garbage" to protect themselves was way too far for me. When we get to a guy managing the process of putting 8 nails in himself to do the job though, then that becomes a little too wierd to pass off. You'd have to be in a straight up liar liar style fight with yourself like Jim Carrey, PLUS have beast mode firmly engaged to be able to fukking pull that off.

Are any of you Christians?  Why all the glee over the death of bankers?  Are the evils they have committed that much worse than the evils you have committed?  Or have you never done anything wrong?  Pause for a moment and think about some of the things you have done wrong.  The Lord doesn't take pleasure in the death of wicked people.  (Ezekiel 33:11)  Say to them: 'As I live,' says the Lord GOD, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?'

It doesn't make me happy to hear that a banker has died, because it means he has no more chance to repent and make restitution.  He has left this life and is in eternity (where all of us will go very soon, as per the ZH motto, top right of this page), and he's probably not in a very good place.  Does that make you happy?  It doesn't make me happy.  I am sorrowful for him.  What would make me happy would be to hear that he repented and began to demonstrate his repentance with a changed life and by trying to make some restitution.

If you are glad that bankers are dying, who else would you be glad to see die?  Would you enjoy watching criminals die?  And have you ever done anything like what they have done?  One day very soon people will be rejoicing that Christians are being executed (it's already happening in some parts of the world), because they don't fit in with society and because they speak out against evil.  Would any of you be found in the crowd of those that are rejoicing over their deaths?
