Meanwhile In Turkey...

Tyler Durden's picture

The Turkish Lira may have halted its record collapse against "reserve" currencies - for now - but the reality is that nothing has changed for the better in Turkey, and in fact things continue to get worse.

First, we learned earlier that as a result of a surging trade deficit, the Turkish current account gap for 2013 soared to $65 billion, higher than the $58.8 billion predicted by the government, and the second highest on record. And for those wondering, the increase in imports was not due to some economic recovery but was "to frontrun tax increases and restrictions on the use of credit cards that came into effect this year." It led even Goldman to conclude that "today's print does not confirm the tentative signs of improvement we saw last month."

Which ties in to the second development out of the country, namely the ongoing political crisis. A smattering of headlines from today:

  • Turkey Police Break Up Protest Seeking Jailed Officers’ Release
  • Turkey’s Gul Cites ‘Problematic Issues’ in Internet Law
  • Turkish Prosecutors Question More Businessmen in Graft Probe
  • Prosecutors interrogated three more prominent businessmen implicated in corruption probe including those involved in 3rd airport construction in Istanbul, according to Hurriyet newspaper website.

And just so readers get a sense of the reality on the ground, here is a photo courtesy of Zeynep Tufekci showing how the government is treating not only protesters but its reporters:

Interesting this...

OK, so some folks don't like the turkish Government, but most support the Ukrainian Governement.

Personally, I'm against any form of government oppression, but you know those bad turks... all the shit they caused with their islam blah blah, cannot compare to the NASTY ZIONIST scum's damage to the USA and the wider world.

I'm no fan of Erdogan and co, but I'd choose him over Zionists Greenspan, Bernanke, Yellen, Israeli Fischer, Carl Icahn, Zell, and 4 out of the 9 judges at the supreme court any day of the year!

Erdogan didn't hurt any one any where near the amount these zionist talmudic cunts did and continue to do.

This is a side show - the American people and the wider world are getting raped by the second at the hands of Zionist garbage.

And that's the truth of it.

So, that means that the sociopaths of all societies are simply higher forms of humanity and all the dumbasses can seem to do stumble around in confusion while the smarter-n-savvier people screw them.

I'll agree with much of what you are saying about Zionism and the State of Israel, but lets be fair on the subject of "scapegoating".

Sure Israel wants to use us to do their dirty work just like the British did in WWI and WWII to do it's bidding.  If it hadn't been for your taxpayer money and the billions of USD that has gone to them since the 1950's to "make them safe" in the Arab neighborhood -Israel wouldn't be standing anymore.

Just look at the United States' record on human rights in the last 225 years both at home and abroad?

While I hate the pernicous nature of the Israeli Government and it's insidious control on my Government (two confirmed false flags and counting) At the end of the day who's really to blame?

Interesting concept, zionists...  One would think they would have taken steps to fix their border issues if it was about the nation of Israel.  Since these people of whom you speak don't seem to really do much for Israel it would seem fair to conclude they are not zionists.  Perhaps they are jewish but that doesn't seem to be a very accurate predictor of who is involved.  Hmmm... maybe if they were called greedy criminal bankers and tyrannical socialist (various flavors) politicians then we would have an accurate description.  Let me do a bullet point summary for you.

Not all the bad guys are jewish.

Not all the bad guys are "zionists".

Not all jewish people are bad guys.

Not all zionists are bad guys.

Not all bankers/pols are jewish.

Not all bankers/pols are zionists.

All the bad guys are either bankers or politicians (including their corporate dogs who tend to be CIA agents anyway).

Are you sensing a pattern here or do I need to keep painting for you.  Shall I break out the finger paints?  Bad guys are bad guys.  Bad guys are attracted to positions of power like the big banks and politics.  When you try to define a group of people because of their race or nationality then you just expose your lack of intellectual curiosity.  BLAME THE OTHER!

Just what political theory involves blaming the other?

Thu, 02/13/2014 - 14:33 | 4433095 The.Harmless.Who
The.Harmless.Who's picture

All the bad guys are either bankers or politicians (including their corporate dogs who tend to be CIA agents anyway).

And behind nearly every one of those banksters is a zionist or zionist inspired cunt - like that poster who claims zionist acts like the fed and rothchild's lot are a case of survival of the fittest!

Hell, I'd be super fit if my life-manual was the Talmud!

So, I'm not blaming the "other" - I'm blaming those responsible - The rothchild dynasty, the Zionists at the Fed, AIPAC and their associated lobbies (UK former PM Tony Blair is one, Current Defence Sec William Hague is another) - These entities have caused misery, and death the world over.

In addition to the innocents who have died at their hands, they are also responsible for taking the USA into countless wars to further their gains.  For sure, I'm blaming those responsible.

Erdogan didn't sink the USS Liberty.  Erdogan doesn't chair the Fed.  Erdogan doesn't go on about freedom and gives cart-blanche to zionists to use DU and White-Phosperus on children.  So, I'm blaming those responsible.

The FED - a favourite topic of Zero Hedgers the world over is controlled by Zionists - Greenspan, Bernanke, Yellen, now Israeli Fischer (conflict of interest much?) - So, I'm blaiming those responsible.

Furthermore, Zionism is the enemy of the Jews.  Just read about Christian Zionist ideology and see how much contempt the (talmudic) zionist have for the (old-testament) jews.

For the record, Nobody said anything about Jews until you posted your comment - which I like by the way - but I wonder if it ever entered your mind to direct your blame game argument at the 1.8 Billion muslims, rather than a handful of zionists occupying disproportionately high powered positions.

After all, I've witnessed muslims getting bashed here - and being accused of all sorts (they never ran a FED mind!), and yet, consider this: If 1.8 billion people were as evil as some people claim them to be, do you think the world would continue to exist in any form?  it beggards belief at how hatred towards these people can lack such judgement.  But there's a logic: Whilst muslims and their lot are being blamed for the world's problems, the Zionists can get off scott free as they destroy America and the wider world.

He's not a troll, his last comment is friendly and intellectually honest. I think the disagreement is much about vocabulary. Military spending wasn't a big % of our GDP here, and life has been pretty damn good.

Our designated enemies spent much more as a % of GDP and lived absolutley miserably, most of them, with a legacy of atrocious poverty that continues today.

Our designated allies spent even less as a % of GDP, and instead spent even more on buying the votes of the whiney and lazy, whose numbers and practices multiplied enough to permit the state to doom them to the dustbins.

So our military spending may have been neither too hot, not too cold, but rather just about right.

Personally, I'm betting much much later.

The US has still got the happiest most patriotic peasants in the world.    I'd bet that 50% of them even agreed with the CEO yesterday who said people who make 35k / years are just a bunch of cry-babies who don't know their proper place.

The US has the best peasants in the world by a VERY wide margin.

Thu, 02/13/2014 - 15:05 | 4432992 Dewey Cheatum Howe
Dewey Cheatum Howe's picture

That douche noozle CEO actually brings up a good point in an indirect way. People have this misguided notion about equality in general. People are not equal, never were, never will be. Same with jobs concerning pay. There is a major difference between equality and equivalence.

Some inequalities have a common equivalence while others do not.

For example from a work standpoint 2 jobs A and B are equal but the individuals doing said jobs are not. For arguments sake individual a > b

How do you define the pay. The jobs are equal so

A = B but a > b therefore

A,a >= B,b for all a and b > 0.

They are equivalent but not equal if the pay is fixed for both because of the ability of the 2 individuals who in general will never be 100% equal on any level. If people ever become 100% equal that means there are NO individuals better or worse if that is the case. Individuality is inequality. We don't need an equal society we need an equivalent society.

With that said this where the founding fathers fucked up saying all men are created equal. They most certainly aren't, they are created equivalent in that they are humans first and foremost and as such the laws should be human based first and foremost not equality based since then the equivalence of the law applies to all because it is based on equivalence and that common equivalence is everyone is fucking human first and foremost whether it be human beings, human fidos, sub-humans etc. The degree to which it is applied deals with the inequality part of equivalence not if it is applied in the first place.

These fuckers twist this logic to justify why the law shouldn't apply to them because they moar equal than you just like animal farm and reality moar equal or not they are still equivalent because of that human link thing or in the case of animal farm they are all still fucking animals so the equivalence is the animal part.

Violence by a government by itself is not a sign of government weakness.  However, when combined with everything else, such as their economic condition, the discontent over the corruption, etc... you may very well be able to take it as a sign that the government is losing control.  Maybe not, as I am not on the ground in Turkey, but it is possible.  Think about it this way, what do you think our government in the good'ole US of A will do in the event that the dollar loses reserve currency status and the sheep start getting uppity?  Think it will be a violent response, and do you think that response will be a sign of strength, or a sign that it is trying to maintain control that is slipping through its fingers?

Whether the violence is a sign of strength or weakness is all about context.

President Erdogan is a Islamist Gorilla (not guerrilla...not yet, anyways), a supporter of the Muslim brotherhood, and thus, secretly distains the ideals of a democratic government or of pluralism.

And Erdogan certainly does not support religious freedom as he believes in Turkey being a Islamic State.  He clothes himself as a moderate, as did Egyptian President Morsi, but his supporters know the score.

The real questions are:

Are the majority of Turks in favor of Western values, of pleuralism, of personal autonomy and freedom, and of democratic rule with guaranteed protections for minorities?

Are Islamic indoctrinated populations capable of appreciating the lessons that Europeans learned following 500years of religious oppression, hypocrisy, and the fight for freedom?  Can we hand these benighted peoples the liberties our ancestors fought so hard to achieve and expect Muslims to grasp and appreciate the struggle, the virtue, the gift that is offered?

So far the answer is NO.

Its not about Christian or Muslim, democracry or autocracy.

Its a question of centralization vs decentralization.  Too much power in too few hands, that, simply put, is the real problem.  And that is why having (massive) governments in bed w/ corporations is so troubling.

Re:  Too much power in too few hands

Agree, but it's the only natural system.   Decentralization doesn't help the smart-n-savvy people get more power.   And - by definition - anybody who IS smart-n-savvy wants more power and creates bullshit for the dumbasses about why centralized control is good thing.   The "Progressives" and "conservatives" of all societies agree that only the very wise (often) [bald | bearded] (choose one) [manly | compassionate ] (choose one) people should run the society, because of the [trrrsss | children ] (choose one).

Creating bullshit for the dumbass how the smart-n-savvy people screw the dumbasses.

Yes, how nice the world would be if only we had remained hunter gatherers and eschewed forming groups larger than 200 individuals.

Those really were da' good ol' days!  Right, ZH?! Am I right here!?

The same would apply to those in the USA with Imaginary-Friend OCD.

Imagine how difficult it would be to get a non-Imaginary-Friend based society in many parts of the US today if we had to start over again.

Totally agree!
The tooth fairy in all his disguises tries to beat REASON out of us all while shoving "faith" up our asses.

It's a monkey disease and where ever monkeys build cities and communities then that defect called religion/magical-thinking tries to take control.

If they'd build more aircraft carriers they wouldn't have these economic problems.    Look at how rich the USA got with our Big-MIC "Keynesian" jobs program.

Why don't those people shoot back?  Oh, forgot, they've probably been disarmed decades ago by a govt. who cares so much that it demanded a gun free society to keep everyone so safe.

Meanwhile... All the BRIC and EM currencies are getting hammered into utter subservience to the King Fiat -- er, I mean "King Dollar".

Those who argue or resist find their country having public dissent and open revolt -- thanks to the CIA and the NGOs, who themselves report to a 'higher' power (NWO shadow Gov).

We are seeing WW3 (Totalitarianism for a 1-world Gov and a 1-world currency) in its early phase:  Currency Wars + Warm Wars (civil uprisings, manufactured via MSM + Social Media).  If these fail -- which they won't -- a Hot War is on the table.

Probably true.   But, the EU sociopaths in Brussels are starting to realize they can't screw their dumbasses - with the same quality that the USA sociopaths screw its dumbasses - unless they get rid of the US control over the EU.   There's already discussion about getting rid of the US monopoly on networking and computer systems thanks to the NSA.

Soooo,  at some point the EU sociopaths will need to take on the reserve-currency of the US.   But,  a few EU sociopaths will be murdered by our patriotic slow-motion eagles in the process.

They aren't building an aircraft carrier - they're building a floating execution chamber that looks like an aircraft carrier. They won't be launching aircraft into the sky, they'll be launching protester's chained-up corpses into the ocean. The giveaway will be the shark packs following in the wake. They considered using submarines but tests showed that the corpses got stuck in the torpedo tubes. Catapults work so much better.
