Ron Paul Launches Clemency Petition For Edward Snowden

Tyler Durden's picture

Former Congressman Ron Paul has launched a petition to attempt to garner clemency for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. The "Demand Clemency for Edward Snowden" petition includes the clip below, Paul calls on supporters to sign the petition in an attempt to bring Snowden home to the US safely before his temporary visa in Russia expires in July.

On the heels of his son Rand Paul's lawsuit against the Obama nd the NSA seeking to stop its collection of phone metadata, Ron Paul states "Edward Snowden shocked the world when he exposed the NSA’s illegal and abusive spying program. Instead of applauding him for his bravery and patriotism, the U.S. government labels Snowden a traitor."

By signing this petition, Paul notes on his Channel's website, "you are telling the US government that Mr. Snowden deserves the right to come home without the fear of persecution or imprisonment."

Signing a petition gets things done, eh? Funny, I thought people signed one to End the Fed.

For those who don't know, Dr. Paul is the only person in his family who isn't in the Masonic Order. That's how he maintains plausible deniability for being a gatekeeper. He's been at this for 3 decades. If people "in the know" are still relying on him we really are screwed.

Does nobody remember HR 1207 being gutted after all those money bawms? Dude is exploiting your hopes and dreams America. Grow a pair and do something for yourselves.

Careful with that one.

I think Snowden is CIA.  He was an officer in the CIA and then went to Booze Allen which might as well be an offshoot of the CIA itself.  Once you go CIA you are there for life.  And you certainly don't turn against them.  It would be suicide, with no where to hide.

He began attacking the NSA right after the whole Bengazi thing exploded.

He's a limited hang out that is attacking the one agency (NSA) that most likely could have outed the whole illegal Arab Spring Fiction.  His purpose is to put pressure on the NSA and put them on the defensive as a big warning.  And it worked.

Also the CIA and the FSB (formerly the KGB) work together all the time now.  After Russia collapsed a special covert CIA related fund was set up to buy up the assets (on the cheap) from corrupt state officials.

They own the joint.  Bought and paid for.

If Snowden were a real national security threat he would have been neutralized by now.

Simple as that.

You've done your homework.  Much of what you said carries some weight, but I'll part company on the ever so cozy relationship idea between CIA and FSB.

To some extent they are always engaged to one another for information, but I don't buy for one minute that they are "on the same team".

Having said that, what I wouldn't give to have Vlad make a very public statement about who did 9/11 (which he certainly could) given his knowledge on the subject.  Something tells me many things will be "on the table", if the U.S. keeps screwing with Russia on it's 50 year old business partner in Syria and it's centuries old neighbor that the likes of Pyatt and Nuland seem hell bent to fuck with.

For one thing, Snowden didn't recieve money (or in kind renumeration) from any foreign power for his actions. He's in Russia because the US revoked his passport to fuck with him, he had to stay in a Russian airport for how long because of US intrigue?

Hardly CIA.

For another thing (for my "right wing" friends out there, what does it say about about your comfort level that EVERYONES personal data being "secure" in a .gov database that can be breached so easily, copied and released by a high school dropout under their very noses?

Google Harder.

"A Reuters report stated that from 2005 to mid-2006 he worked for a classified intelligence agency in Washington, DC.[58] He joined the CIA in 2006.[59] In May 2006 Snowden wrote in Ars Technica that he had no trouble getting work because he was a "computer wizard". In August he wrote about a possible path in government service, perhaps involving China, but said it "just doesn't seem like as much 'fun' as some of the other places".[53]

In 2007, the CIA stationed Snowden with diplomatic cover in Geneva, Switzerland, where he was responsible for maintaining computer network security.[60]Snowden described his CIA experience in Geneva as "formative"."

Trolls don't have anything other than an emotional fat finger.

I lean your way over his performance. I'm no expert on the Mr. Paul's long term history other than he being the guy dubbed Dr. No.

What, after 30 years tramping the halls of that shop of horrors he hadn't formed any meaningful alliances? If that is true then there are only two explanations for it; There aren't "A Few Good Men" in that shit bowl or he wasn't really trying. Yeah, yeah, the press and his own son happened to him but why didn't he rally us at Tampa when he had the chance? "Oh, no. Let's all be nice, now. Don't get me wrong, RP helped me greatly along my path.  I donated to his campaigns and money bombs.  Just when "victory" seemed so close at hand, he quits.  Twice.

Like I said, he started me down a path that I may have never otherwise found, but left me short.  The path has gotten narrow and dark where I am now.  RP is somewhere, back there, behind me.  Every now and then I bump into someone else, just as lost as me, but still looking for some light.  May God bless you all.

What's this shit about "clemency" Dr, Paul? Doesn't "clemency" imply guilt? Clemency is forgiveness for wrong doing. Has a trial been held where Snowden was found guilty? You know the meaning of this word and have used it deliberately. Politicians chose their words carefully and both you and your miserable offspring have been at this game long enough to know what youare doing.

That's twice I've heard this "Clemency" proposal, for a person who hasn't even had a trial and was just doing his job under oath and has paid the price for heroic behaviour, which all of us should be supporting. Your lower than snake shit son proposed the same thing a few weeks ago, using the same word, big-noting himself on the airwaves, inserting into the debate that word and trampling on the face of a hero, using the situation to promote himself, which I can understand, but now you?

If he wasn't guilty before, he is now. Good on you Pauls!

Have you already condemned him or are you just being disingenuous with your selection of words, thereby promoting yourselves as the good guys.

"They" are the multifaceted TPTB in the US govt.& elsewhere, mired in sustainment of self presevation.

The pursuit of such endlessly narrows POV of, removes foresight, and curses with ultimate demise.

One can not differentiate USA from any historical empire collapse, beyond numeral smoke screens.

Constitutional violations are as common as streetlights in Jersey.

To assume otherwise is foolhardy.

Snowden may have his place in history etched into stone, coined, and revered by future generations.

TPTB "they" have just begun to openly wield their sword within the USA above the LAW.

I wasn't suggesting a stand up in the field fight, in ranks, to take on these swine. I agree, no suicidal mission for the cause of Liberty necessary.I will not fight for the majority either. The fight for Liberty is a perennial battle, that much we were warned about but carrying the flag for the indolent masses will pay few dividends. The reasons for that insight are 1) they want to be ruled, 2) they need to be supported by government (in their own minds) as they have a greater fear of the reponsibility of independence.

At the end of this fall out they will still need their government to help them and so will have plenty of rulers offering them plenty of bribes to satisify their lazineess. The history of America shows they will have their way and the fight will have to be waged again. It is coming but it will be years from now. My istratedy of fighting the good fight is to stand up now and inform as many young people as I can about the differences between the two camps. This is part of the battle and I cop plenty of flak from the sheeple for raising these ideals. I have been ostracised from friends and family members but that is the price I will pay for my beliefs.  Preaching to the choir here in most cases. This place is just a sounding board for ideas. I learn a lot here and spread the word to those who don't frequent libertarian web sites.

Agreed.  But I will tell you that the damage is already done and probably insurmountable for the likes of Clapper and his team.

What people fail to realize on the Snowden situation is that he had lots of help both from within and without. This wasn't a "one-man_show" even though it's being advertized that way by Greenwald and the rest of the media establishment. You can believe this or not believe this, but the NSA, CIA and FBI have much more to worry about with the minions currently under their control, because Ed represents many, many, more disaffected within the U.S. IC.

Another way of putting it is the electronic (eyes and ears) caught the flu but the HUMINT has double pneumonia and it started spreading with the DoD when the issue of torture became front and center in the war on terror when the lies to invade Afghanistan and Iraq got rolling, and the likes of the Bush Administration "un-moored" itself from the treatys they were obligated to but discarded as impediments including that one hanging up on the wall in the National Archives that's just about faded completely away into the ether.

How prophetic.

The spineless, ungrateful, corrupt European parliament rejected moves to protect Snowden:

European Parliament kills call to protect Edward Snowden

By Bill Van Auken
13 February 2014

Under intense pressure from both the Obama administration and national governments in Europe, a committee of the European Parliament has killed a measure calling for asylum and protection for National Security Agency (NSA) whistleblower Edward Snowden should he leave his temporary haven in Russia for anywhere within the European Union.

Not only did the panel reject an amendment Wednesday that would have called on EU members to offer to protect Snowden from persecution at the hands of US authorities, it excised any mention of his name from a 60-page report that is based entirely on the secret documents that he made public. These documents have exposed a massive spying operation against hundreds of millions of people in Europe, the United States and internationally. The report is slated to be submitted to the full Parliament next month.

Also rejected was an amendment calling on US authorities to drop attempts to prosecute Snowden under the 1917 Espionage Act.

There has been an widespread epidemic of 'spinelessness' amongst "The Free World's" politicians these days.

Since the citizens of these same nations overwhelmingly approve of Mr. Snowdens actions we can only be left to deduce that these same politicians and their respective governments are owned by entities other than the citizens they have sworn to serve.

How about an impeachment petition for Obama ?

Snowden will not come back until the hubris of the American nation has been humbled and men like Snowden are seen as true patriots.

With over 1000 bases, the world's reserve currency and the most powerful military, there is unfortunately much hubris left.

I think Snowden's visa will be extended for as long as it takes.

Did anyone see his last interview?

He's well fed, immaculately groomed; he's getting funds from somewhere, probably

a USSA Goverment agency annoyed with the NSA.

Not to say his disclosures are valueless, far from it, the discussions provoked by his actions may yet

provide meaningful changes.

I'm just saying, things may not be all that we are allowed to see.

IMO, ALL media is a propaganda, that which we can see is allowed, disclaimers not withstanding.

As to the R & R Paul show, they lost me after 2008, 2012, and the kid's Romney rimjob.

You have Intent, and you have Effect.

Sometime it is said that;
"For the Right Man the Wrong Means Works the Right Way.
For the Wrong Man the Right Means Works the Wrong Way."

Regardless of Intent, The Effect has been that many many "Sheeple" now realize what the Gov. is doing. And they are slightly more distrusting of the Gov.

You may say that that is the Effect that they Wanted, But I would disagree.

Yes, I have read Sibel, (as I have for 10 years from the time she first went public on her translation stint for the Gov. and her tribulations since then.)

Yes, I would like the truth come out on 911 and the Real Perps, (Fuck you Cheney, Rummy, Bush the Younger, et al)

BUT, Snowden's effect has been Large. If nothing else to those abroad.

For that I am happy.

First: I upvoted You.

Second: IF the likes of Snowden AND Assange can not or will not deliver the goods We ALL know exists in some form and amount where the Banking Frauds are concerned; the answer to questions concerning their purposes and/or loyalties is self evident.

Third: IMHO, Sibel Edmonds is more credible than both Snowden and Assange, although I still can't figure out why she is still walking around pissing off TPTB unless She too is 'compromised'.

I agree. I signed it because I support Ron Paul and I support Ed Snowden. He gave up his comfortable existence to expose the crimes of our rulers.

I want the Powers That Be to know in no uncertain circumstances that I, and many others like me detest them, consider them traitors and will fight them in any way I can.

For the paranoid, cowardly assholes who think Snowden is some kind of inside job, I have one very simple question:

If Snowden is CIA and on a secret squirrel undercover brother type mission, why the hell is Putin protecting him?

Let me guess - Putin is a secret Illuminati plant working in cahoots with the CIA to put the NSA on notice.

I mean, seriously? Do these fucknut idiots ever think about the bullshit they spout?

While we're on the subject of fucknut idiots, I'd like the Ron Paul haters to tell me exactly who in Congress he should have formed alliances with???

Exactly which other Congress critters wanted to end the Fed?

While I'm not aware of any prior leaks on par with Mr. Snowden's, bits and pieces of information relating to similar and/or overlapping programs have been leaked over the years (ECHELON, CARNIVORE, Room 641A, etc). Small hints can even be found on the NSA's own website; for example, their interest in distributed computing and MapReduce. Not damning information in and of itself, but telling. Naturally, none of this stuff resonated outside of the tech industry until it was right out there in the open and easily digestable by the mass.

I see some comments in this thread that say "why bother, petitions do no good."

This is correct in that petitions are ineffective in themselves. But signing this one is an act of solidarity. Take the step.

I see some attacks against Ron Paul. Don't know the guy, never voted for him and don't care about any crimes or heroics he may have done. The issue in the petition is solidarity with Citizen Snowden.  Ron Paul is not the issue. Focus.

Are they fakes, frauds, deflections and deceptions?

Everybody has forgotten just as if not more credible inside-but-anti-establishment types that REALLY ended up taking it in the ass such as Jim Trafficant.

I'm a cynical bastard: I don't trust anyone who has been inside for as long as Paul or who was willfully emplyed for so long in the MIC/Police State machinery as Snowden.

The only revelation from Snowden is how weak NSA's internal security is, and even that should be no huge suprise.

All his other "revelations" were either known, suspected, or expected.  His actions are prima facie violations of every secrecy laws on the books up to and including treason.

So, the net value I get from doing the math is that he's a traitor, a self-righteous twit and too stupid to even know if what he's got is valuable or not.  I have some tiny sympathy for him even so, because 99.9% of stuff that the government classifies is garbage and it's always good to shine some light on that.  But if it's even possible to make himself look worse he did so by running off to China and Russia.  That's either knowledge of guilt or else piling treason on treason.  Neither is mitigating in the courtroom.

He bought the ticket, now he takes the ride.
