Caracas Is Burning As Maduro Warned May Face Military Coup

Tyler Durden's picture

With all eyes focused on Ukraine, the situation in Venezuela has once again escalated as protest leader Leopoldo Lopez' arrest (and possible 10 year jail sentence) prompted more violence overnight. However, as we warned, the government crackdown is starting to raise concerns about the stability of the government.

Images from last night suggest this is getting considerably worse...despite Maduro's claims of "absolute calm"

and of course the terrible death of a former Miss Venezuela...

I don't know why people keep complaining about cold weather affecting the global economy.  Clearly it is very warm in many non-US cities.

I guess people get real pissed when a Big Mac cost $31.

Just one request...whoever puts a cap in Maduro's ass, please post it on the web. And send a copy to C. Fernandez.

WHICH “death of a former Miss Venezuela” is being propagandized here?

You didn't start that fire.

"Don't forget that 's protests started because of lack of food & high criminality. Nothing to do w politics."

Is this guy being sarcastic?

Highly criminal politicians powered by BASELESS FIAT are the number one threat to food and tp and freedom.

Clint Liquor's picture

Surprise! The pursuit of the 'Socialist Paradise' results in no food for the people. How many countries can you count where this has happened? And yet they never tire of promoting Socialism.

Hands down one of the better CIA operations. Look forward to the declassified docs in 30 years. If the US manages to get Venezuela back in the fold (looks almost certain) they'll own Latin America once again I guess.

Civil war in Ukraine is moving along quite well too. Bullish UST

James_Cole's picture

Don't even need declassification actually, in the US fed budget there's actually 5m$ officially for opposition protestors in Venezuela lol

They don't really try to hide it: there's $5m in the 2014 US federal budget for funding opposition activities inside Venezuela, and this is almost certainly the tip of the iceberg – adding to the hundreds of millions of dollars of overt support over the past 15 years.

US taxpayers $ hard at work!

Yes. Everything in the Socialist Paradise was going perfectly until the CIA got involved.

Yes. Everything in the Socialist Paradise was going perfectly until the CIA got involved.

You're right of course, every time a democratically elected .gov comes into power and the economy doesn't do well the government should be overthrown via military coup. Always works out for the best.

Just like the Ukraine, why wait a year (or less) for elections, overthrow now!

Clint Liquor's picture

The Socialists have been destroying the economy of Venezuela for 20 years. The amazing thing is it took the People so long to put an end to it.

James_Cole's picture

Sure, the .gov there hasn't done a great job in many ways. But they also have the cards heavily stacked against. It's amazing you boneheads read zh regularly and can't see the obvious. The US is trying to force Venezuela (and Argentina) onto the USD. It has nothing to do with evil socialists.

http://object.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/wp-content/uploads/hanke_ven...

How to fix? Go onto the USD!

http://www.frbatlanta.org/pubs/economicreview/official_dollarization_and...

Spend ten seconds reading any business news and they all say the same thing, Venezuela must adopt the USD to get their crisis under control. And they’re probably right.

A country can fight the US for a while, but sooner or later they either get economically obliterated or militarily invaded. There's a bit of a pattern if you haven't noticed.

If the US had its credit rating cut to B-, what sort of inflation would you expect?

Your post would be better received if Maduro had half the cult of personality that Putin does.   The fucker has to do something.....wrestle a cat....shake the man-titties.....recall his glory days as a bus driver before Comrade Colonel Chavez recognized his true potential....bang a dead Miss Venezuela.....anything but the deer in the headlights look on (state) TV.    Anything.    There have to be at least 2 neurons firing in there.    Do something, for the love of Lenin!

sylviasays's picture

James_Cole has resorted to using aljazeera as a news source?  Why it must be true!

downwiththebanks's picture

As I did yesterday, I challenge you to come up with one measure of social existence that got worse since the IMF regime you so laud and worship was thrown out of power in 1999.

sylviasays's picture

Ah, how about no fucking toilet paper for the masses?

macbone's picture

One can only hope the CIA is directing this. And it's good to see so much confidence expressed in our ability to control every conflict in every country. Thank you for support, good citizen. And always remember we are watching YOU.... you commie rat bastard.

They never run out of burgeoisie to blame for their own economic ignorance. Remember what Upton Sinclair said about socialist academics; it's difficult to make a man understand something his salary depends on him not understanding.

V in PA's picture

Glad someone else caught that. I think he actually believed that shit.

Lack of food and high criminality are caused by politics.

downwiththebanks's picture

Don't forget that racist fascists who have lost every election for the last 20 years, funded from abroad, started this round of rioting.

You would think the oligarchs would deploy some different tactics than those that have failed before.  Maybe they figure without Chavez, a military man, their little coup funded by Wall Street can succeed...

sylviasays's picture

Only a delusional socialist libtard would think that "racist" fascists started this rioting.   Despite sitting on the world’s largest oil reserves, Venezuela’s socialist government couldn't even manage to keep the power or the lights on.  There were shortages of food and even toilet paper.  Once again the socialist pigs at the top fucked up the economy and are trying to blame it on everyone but themselves!

Tyler(s)

Are you serious?   Of course you are, or you would not have posted it!

Are you aware of all the disinformation and propaganda flying around this thing?   Of course you are!

Are you are posting unattributed pictures from some twitter activist/warrior in San Francisco and passing it off as facts?  Of course you are!

Perhaps we should exercise a little (just a teenie smidge) of critical thinking before swallowing the Soma...

Pathetic!

Hell in a handbasket- I am fast losing respect for this site.

Here is an excellent example of the noxious effects of publishing "twitter news" as the Tyler(s) have done.

I will personally take any former or current Miss Venezuela into my home -- as a humanitarian gesture -- because that is the kind of selfless commitment that is needed NOW.

And let it be known:  I have toilet paper.

Well there must be some truth to that as all the news stations were telling us to

"Don't worry, Be happy".

The problem is... that Venezuela's socialist utopia is collapsing. What it needs is full blown Communism in order to succeed. Oh, and also it needs concentration camps for any one who disagrees.

Bangin7GramRocks's picture

No. It should be ruled by large corporations like the U S of A. The 2 best buildings not burned to the ground will become an Apple Store and a Chipotle as soon as Lord Business takes control.

RSloane's picture

Good news Flacon, Maduro has ordered that any journalists attempting to cover the riots should be arrested and imprisoned. A station that was publicizing the protestors' demands was suddenly taken off air without warning, citing that CONATEL [the state sponsored media telecommunications agency] found them to be publishing information that was not approved.

See, they're way ahead of you! If no one can see it, its not really happening.

flacon's picture

I did not know that, but why does it not surprise me.... :(
