Truce Broken - At least 50 Dead As Ukraine Protests Re-Ignite - Live Feed
At least 50 are dead, according to Reuters, and hundreds injured as fresh fighting broke out in central Kiev this morning breaking the apparent truce that was in place last night. Who is to blame is up for discussion but of little import in the end as the death toll mounts and live ammunition is being used by the police. A Ukrainian presidential statement said dozens of police were killed or wounded during the opposition offensive hours after Yanukovich and opposition leaders had agreed on a truce... Other witnesses said they saw government snipers firing into the civilian crowds during the clashes.
The Protesters reportedly captured police...
Activists who recaptured the square, known as Maidan or "Euro-Maidan" to the opposition, appeared to lead away several uniformed officers. Dozens of wounded protesters were being given makeshift first aid treatment in the lobby of the Ukraine Hotel, where many foreign correspondents are staying.
Reporters said there were bullet holes in the walls and windows of the hotel overlooking the square. Both sides have accused the other of using live ammunition.
"Black smoke, denotations and gunfire around presidential palace ... Officials panicky," tweeted Polish minister Radoslaw Sikorski to explain the delay in the meeting at Yanukovich's office, a few hundred meters from the square.
But the protesters had a different view...
Protesters were in a truculent mood despite the overnight lull and columns of men, bearing clubs and chanting patriotic songs headed to Independence Square at 8:30 a.m. (0130 ET).
"What truce? There is no truce! It is simply war ahead of us! They are provoking us. They throw grenades at us. Burn our homes. We have been here for three months and during that time nothing burned," said 23-year-old Petro Maksimchuk.
"These are not people. They are killers. Sanctions will not help. They all should be sent into isolation in Siberia."

The protesters engaged in the battle to retake the portion of the Maidan that had been ceded to the riot police two nights before.
I was not there so I can only form an opinion based on the actions I see. Over the past few days the security forces appear to have been watching. Perhaps probing the lines but nothing too aggressive. Then they stood down and appear to have been waiting-out the protesters. That is when the protestors appear to have taken the offensive. If the security forces wanted to be the aggressors they did not need to execute the plan with snipers they could have steamrolled that square with force. We will never know who is responsible for each bullet but on the whole it does not appear that the security forces had the goal of killing anyone.
Elmar Brok MEP (EPP, Germany), the Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, is currently in Kiev.
He said, "I can confirm that snipers have started shooting at Maidan demonstrators, disrespecting the ceasefire agreement of last night. Given the numerous casualties they appear to be using live ammunition".

I'd like to know who paid for the stage and the sound system in the square. How about the electricity usage. This stuff does not come free. Is there a group of individuals funding these efforts or has it been orchestrated by foreign influences? I would like to the Ukranian government get up on that stage to debate the protestors. Put it right on the line, get both sides there and televise it to the world. Then let the Ukranians vote on what they want for a government. They all should be able to agree to that, right? Russian oil/gas and those in Ukraine who benefit of Ukraine's status as a transit country. Russia has invested quite a bit in Ukraine after 2010 and the "new start" for cooperation. Prior to this, when Russia deemed Ukrainian foreign policy as "anti-Russian", Russia was more or less dismantling the "special relationship" with Ukraine and has been raising the gas prices to a level closer to what Europe pays. This lead to a lot of problems in Ukraine as they could barely pay their gas bills. Now, after Ukraine elected a pro-Russian candidate again, Russia and Ukraine made deals that reflect the old special relationship - and then this happens.
Well given that UNCLE-OBAMA is foot the bill for the 'protest', you can pretty much assume that Al-Queda, CIA, and the normal wet-ops from the state department are doing the killing.
