Russia Freezes Aid For Ukraine; Urges Respect For Legitimate Government

Tyler Durden's picture

“We planned to allocate another tranche according to that arrangement. Yet in the current situation we have many questions as to how the money will be used and how it will be paid back," said Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, according to ITAR-TASS this morning.

  • *RUSSIA URGES RESPECT FOR UKRAINE SOVEREIGNTY, LEGITIMATE GOVT

Via ITAR-TASS,

Russia has suspended another tranche of financial aid for Ukraine because of the current tensions and plans to wait until the situation stabilizes to resume support afterwards, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told Bloomberg on Friday commenting on the Irish Stock Exchange’s report on Ukraine’s refusal to sell two-year Eurobonds of $2 billion. Russia was to buy bonds under the already approved $15 billion aid package.

We planned to allocate another tranche according to that arrangement. Yet in the current situation we have many questions as to how the money will be used and how it will be paid back," said Siluanov.

Conditions for the second tranche were similar to those of the first, namely a two-year loan at a rate of 5 percent per annum, Siluanov added.

He also doubted the feasibility of currency interventions to support the hryvnia amid political instability.

“The national bank of Ukraine can now make efforts to bolster the hryvnia, but demand for foreign currency amid political uncertainty will remain high,” he said. “Therefore, interventions can prove a waste of gold and currency reserves that will lead to nothing and will not prevent the hryvnia's devaluation."

Of course, we suspect the "deal" does nothing to change their minds - especially as it increases the uncertainty of what the Russian aid will be used for.

Russia and ex-KGB prick Putin can fuck off now!

BTW, Russian banks will lose $30 billion and ignite financial crisis in Russia if/when Ukraine defaults.

It's common sense not rocket science Tyler Durden.

Why do you need Martin Armstrong's nonsense?

Oil and gas exports account for more than 50% of Russia’s budget revenue. Putin MUST keep oil/gas exports flowing. If oil/gas exports drop or oil prices drop just to $80, Russian government budget will lose its lifeline, and there won’t be enough money to fund all state programs.

If oil prices drop to $50-60, many Russians will not get their government checks, and whatever you see happening in Kiev today will happen in Moscow.

Then pro-Kremlin Tyler Durden from Zero Hedge, the flock of Putin's sheep, RIA Novosti (propaganda arm of ex-KGB/FSB), and Zhirinovsky (Eidelstein) nuts will start blaming McCain and CIA for riots in Moscow.

Standard & Poor’s cut Ukraine’s credit rating to CCC, eight levels below investment grade, saying the country risks default without “significantly favorable changes.” Ukraine, which is grappling with a record current-account deficit, has seen its foreign reserves plunge 28 percent in the past year to $17.8 billion at the end of January, the lowest level since 2006.

The country has $17 billion of liabilities coming due, excluding interest, through the end of 2015, including the $1 billion due in June this year, data compiled by Bloomberg show. The price on notes maturing in four months climbed to 95.63 cents on the dollar from 93.13 cents yesterday

when war moves from a "first option" to a "final solution" (let alone the last option as it should be) then something pretty bad than none of us down here in the cheap seats want is going down.

the question of course is "can it be stopped" or have events already been set in motion that simply "follow through on the sub-routine"?

Speaking of lying fuckwads-

"Victoria Nuland, the American neoconservative Assistant Secretary of State, whose agenda is US world hegemony, told the Ukrainians what was in store for them last December 13, but the protesters were too delusional to hear.

In an eight minute, 46 second speech at the National Press Club sponsored by the US-Ukraine Foundation, Chevron, and Ukraine-in-Washington Lobby Group, Nuland boasted that Washington has spent $5 billion to foment agitation to bring Ukraine into the EU. Once captured by the EU, Ukraine will be “helped” by the West acting through the IMF. Nuland, of course, presented the IMF as Ukraine’s rescuer, not as the iron hand of the West that will squeeze all life out of Ukraine’s struggling economy.

Nuland’s audience consisted of all the people who will be enriched by the looting and by connections to a Washington-appointed Ukrainian government. Just look at the large Chevron sign next to which Nuland speaks, and you will know what it is all about."

Long White Stream, bitches!

Note that she says it was her third trip to Ukraine in less than 5 weeks.

Of course the sociopath/psychopaths on both sides are playing "The Great Game" of global geopolitics. And that region has been of strategic significance for a very long time. The anglo-american bankster neo-con globalists on one side and Putin/the Russians on the other. Anyone who thinks any of them are choir boys is a fool.

But the neo-cons have been aggressively attacking/trying to destablize Russia since the fall of the USSR, (even before then). They are establishing alliances and bases to encircle them. Last time the Ruskies did anything that was even a faint glimmer of that was during the Cuban missile crisis back in 1962. That took the world to the brink of thermo-nucear WW3. The US leadership did not tolerate such an immediate strategic threat, and neither will the Russians.

So if Ukraine ends up breaking up into western and eastern halves, and the EU and eventually NATO moves into the west side. What do you think the Russians will do ?   If anti strategic missile capability is put into western Ukraine, what do you think the Russians will do ?

There's a reason that in a recent world wide poll, the USA was voted as the greatest threat to peace in the world today.

Some people need to get a fukn' clue.

Pipelines run through Ukraine... just sayin'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Druzhba_pipeline

The Druzhba pipeline (Russian: ??????????? «??????»; also has been referred to as the Friendship Pipeline and the Comecon Pipeline) is the world's longest oil pipeline and in fact one of the biggest oil pipeline networks in the world. It carries oil some 4,000 kilometres (2,500 mi) from the eastern part of the European Russia to points in Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany.[1] The network also branches out into numerous pipelines to deliver its product throughout the Eastern Europe and beyond. The name "Druzhba" means "friendship", alluding to the fact that the pipeline supplied oil to the energy-hungry western regions of the Soviet Union, to its "fraternal socialist allies" in the former Soviet bloc, and to western Europe. Today, it is the largest principal artery for the transportation of Russian (and Kazakh) oil across Europe.

Pay up or shut up! If Ukranians go all in, they'd shut off the pipes. Then Russia would have to invade and protect the oil infrastructure. At which time the EU and likely the US would come to defend Ukraine and we would have full blown WW3 on our hands

Yep, WW3 is this close to happening.

And there lies the rub.  A full scale conflict will rapidly escalate to a nuclear exchange.  Like fuck they would risk that to save Ukraine.

Is not about "Ukraine" per se but about Russia's access to European oil/gas customers and Europe ensuring the spice keeps flowing.

Rock meet hard place for both Russia and Europe.

The U.S. goal in the Ukraine is simple and clear:

They want to put the Turkish troops (NATO) on the faucet of pipe with gas to Germany and all Europe.
This will give the U.S. an opportunity to firmly keep Germany and all of Europe by the throat.
After that, the U.S. may submit any big claims to Germany, as well any  blackmail and fuck the whole of Europe, as they want.

I am very, very surprised that Mrs Merkel, does not understand this.

Of course she knows and understands this. Frau Merkel is a very intelligent woman who is constantly underestimated by her opponents.

I am very surprised that you are not aware that Merkel already cut a killer deal for Germany with the Nord Stream pipeline, which goes directly from Mother Russia to Deutschland.

The operational capacity (55 Billion square meters) more than covers Germany's needs. Best of all, there are no middlemen (like Ukraine for example) that can disrupt the spice flow every time the middleman wants to welsh on a deal and renegotiate.

It is pumping gas right now.

"Merkel already cut a killer deal for Germany with the Nord Stream pipeline, which goes directly from Mother Russia to Deutschland."

It is only your personal wordplay between Germany and Europe. Europe can not survive without gas that flows through pipelines in Ukraine. Everything else - it only empty words and attempt to justify Merkel, who already received check and mate from Washington, via gas pipeline on the Ukraine.

Russia will never abandon Crimea.  If Ukraine moves closer to the West, Russia will use the predominantly  Russian population in the Crimean region to intervene and possibly partition the country, just like they did in Georgia. In the end West will have an even bigger problem in their hands and will look even more silly and impotent.

Believe it or not I have a lot of respect for the few folks here that deserve it. You'll never see me post anything against someone who doesn't have an agenda. When I see an agenda especially one like these shills have who show up conveniently when they can propagate their nonsense (pro Kremlin/pro Putin), I can't help myself.

Still the question remains and has not been answered and these shills can't answer it without acknowledging the truth. Where did Putin get his 80 billion? He was a low level KGB agent.

I'll tell you...he stole it from the Russian people. Over 200k of them protested his usurping of Russia and they were put down like dogs in the street. This is what these shills like Shasha and Volk support. They would sell their own people for a few pieces of silver.

By the way....I thought it was the fight club.

The situation isn't any better now that truce has been signed. The witch hunt has begun, there is a power vacuum now, almost all of the police left the city, which is now being patroled by self-organized civilian crowds, who have no authority to do so, and worse, have no formal training in police matters. Like Cheka in 1917. The best thing now would be if some form of government could be formed fast. Actually, a curfew, enacted by the parlament, and enforced by the army, would be the best thing for next few days. No gathering from 21:00 to 6:30.

Majority of people cannot think for themselves. Sad but true at least for Europe and North America and 100% for the vast majority of Asians.

If you feel that you can stand on your own two feet and you can think for yourself, consider yourself lucky, very lucky.

I had to go to work, but I figured it out in the intirim:

Putin wants the Ukrainian president to resign. I don't know why, exactly but I would assume there is some question in Putin's mind about whether Yanukovych will resign willingly even if his support is pulled. That's why Putin had to make this announcement publicly instead of just picking up the phone.

Ukraine's economy will collapse without Russian support, most likely. Yanukovych knows this, and knows that without money to pay security forces, he's doomed. Putin is publicly telling him to get out.

I expect Yanukovych's resignation within 48 hours.
