Did Ukraine's Ousted President Yanukovych Just Disappear?

Tyler Durden's picture

Having already fled Kiev and his compound for the more hospitable eastern are of Ukraine, perhaps it was Tymoshenko's comment that...

  • *UKRAINIANS OBLIGED TO BRING YANUKOVYCH BACK TO KIEV: TYMOSHENKO

...that was the final straw. Interfax is reporting that, for now, Customs have lost rack of the deposed leader...

  • *UKRAINE CUSTOMS SVC STOPPED DEPARTURE OF PRESIDENT'S PLANE: IFX
  • *UKRAINE CUSTOMS SVC SAYS YANUKOVYCH LEFT AIRPORT IN CAR: IFX
  • *YANUKOVYCH HASN'T SHOWN UP AT OTHER CHECKPOINT: CUSTOMS TO IFX

Cue - webcams at Moscow International...

This follows the earlier capture of another cabinet member trying to cross the border:

  • *UKRAINE EX-INT MIN CAUGHT TRYING TO FLEE BY BORDER SERVICE: IFX
  • *UKRAINE BORDER SERVICE SAYS CAUGHT MINISTER ZAKHARCHENKO: IFX

You better make your face up in
Your favourite disguise
With your button down lips and your
Roller blind eyes
With your empty smile
And your hungry heart
Feel the bile rising from your guilty past
With your nerves in tatters
As the cockleshell shatters
And the hammers batter
Down your door
You better run

Ukraine is not as divided as ex-KGB/FSB propaganda arm RIA Novosti and Kremlin try to portray.

I'm sure Putin is shitting his pants because he knows that Putin is next after Yanukovytch.

How many months Putin has before riots in Moscow?

It seems like Yanukovych, contrary to the evil dictator caricature that Cult_of_Treason has been trying to sell, was going out of his way to be accommodative to the protesting "freedom fighters":

http://original.antiwar.com/buchanan/2014/02/20/ukraines-crisis-not-ours/

Cult_of_Treason has been shilling his little neocon heart out lately, both as himself and as his sock puppet El Tuco. Rarely have I had the misfortune of seeing such an execrable performance. His propaganda so cartoonish and nonsensical that it verges on vaudevillian. I think he knows he is not fooling anyone with it, but he still finds the lies comforting somehow.

But hey, some people relish total immersion in their own lies. Don't disturb their masturbation.

Ousted Ukraine President Yanukovich's residence is open to anyone.

I wonder what Putin's residence looks like.

 ______

According to Kremlin propaganda lies (unfortunately often promoted here on Zero Hedge), Donetsk (Eastern Ukraine) was Yanukovich's "strong" support area of "deeply divided" Ukraine.

Saturday, February 22 22:07 GMT:

Border guards at Donetsk airport in eastern Ukraine say they did not let the plane carrying President Yanukovich leave the country. Earlier, new Rada speaker Aleksandr Turchinov claimed that Viktor Yanukovich and several other high-ranking officials made an unsuccessful attempt to flee to Russia.

Hey, Cult_of_Treason, thanks for posting the link to this NYT story about the two richest guys in Dnepropetrovsk who ordered all their local properties to hoist European Union flags and then piped live video of the "protests" to the large outdoor viewscreen at their shopping mall:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/06/world/europe/ukraine-chief-loses-suppo...

If you hadn't posted that link, I'd never have known that these two brave Ukrainian patriots both then promptly fled to that country whose name must never be mentioned.

As per your usual well said.

As Americans we are watching the most shameful chapter in our unabridged history.

Outside the Zionist neocon camp that provides comment here, I think most would agree that what has taken place in the Ukraine the last couple of weeks with the Pyatt/Nuland revelations which are blatant acts of treasons committed by the U.S. Government along with $5 billion of our money being used to subvert a democratically elected leader (good, bad, or otherwise) which has killed dozens, injured or maimed hundreds and destroyed and pillaged a city and it's property beyond outrageous.  The President of the United States declaring the opposition "Peaceful" has to be the ultimate insult and crown at the top!

I think the majority here are as amazed as I am that we've witnessed absolutely nothing with the fallout of these latest provocations in our foreign policy agenda through demonstrations around the Nation demanding that our Leaders be jailed for treason they keep committing which is more dangerous then it has ever been!

I guess Russia and China will be the ones deciding for us at this point.

Coward. Why is he on the run? First he fights for his power, verbally anyway. Then he quits his people alltogether? What a good-for-nothing bum in the end. That's the display of a bad leader right there. Full confirmation of just what went on during his reign and why the people are right to have ousted him. Respect how the people treat the palace as they understand this is rightfully theirs and they can decide the future of the palace and the future of Ukraine. Russia is to be commended for staying put and brokering deals in the background. Ukraine's newly emerging leadership is breathtakingly beautiful. I hope we'll see lots more of her.

Under the Ukrainian Constitution, the President can only be impeached and removed if he is disabled or has been convicted of a crime, and then there must be a 3/4 vote in the Rada, and then the Constitutional Court must review it.

None of this has happened.  This is a putsch by armed extremists, un-Constitutional and this shows that the EU (Germany, France and Poland) are behind a coup.  They need to clean this up and it's doubtful they can, now that the West Ukraine extremists have taken control of Kiev.

Meanwhile, the Ukraine economy will implode, particularly in Kiev and environs and the West Ukraine.

It is a difficult proposition for Russia to kill other Russians/Slavs. They will dig in and try to open another front. I still think the State Dep. would love to see Russia invade. Open war Russians borders would be a great blow to Putin and the Kremlin. Russia stands to lose 30+ billion in case a default in Kiev. Russia will play nice. Bingo.  You don't go to war in a world of scarcity.  You want the enemy alive -- to consume.

Vladimir need only tighten the spigot, or better demand the EU pay the Ukraine gas bill.  When the EU says . . . here are some Euros . . . Vladimir says what, paper?  No.  And no, don't want gold either.

I want things of value.  Send me your aircraft carriers.  And your planes.  All of them.  Then you can be warm in winter.  No, not waiting til you build them.  Send the ones you already have.

That would just stiffen their resolve and burn any chance Russia has of retaining influence.   Their best bet is to stay low and let matters resolve themselves peacefully, at the end of which they'll still have their pipelines and their navy port.  Threats at this point run the risk of losing both.

Time will tell, but I would not be totally 'shocked' if this happened. After all, the strategic interests of both parties would resolved and the breakup would be along more 'natural' (cultural and linguistic) lines for the populace.

No one has any idea what is going on. I heard some Party of Regions MPs said they did not vote to impeach Yanukovich, even though the numbers suggest at least a third of his party defected. Claims are also circulating that the speaker of parliament from the Party of Regions, who resigned due to "ill health" was beaten up by protesters before his announcement i.e. his "ill health" was most likely a ruptured spleen from repeated beatings. Yanukovich saying he was shot at makes me wonder if protesters are going to start setting up "people's courts" and just executing any leading officials they find following speedy public trials.

All the cheering in the West shows the same disconnect with reality that we saw in Egypt, Libya, and countless other recent "revolutions" that have rapidly descended into a cacophony of violent insurgencies. They're gonna push the IMF to fund Ukraine? What kind of crazy lender would front this failing state any lump sum of cash? The Russians are probably gonna block off trade due to the "coup" and cause Ukraine's economy to crash anyway.

Violent revenge, it's what's for dinner!

But seriously, it is a thin veil between hatred and violence. Few socieites in history restrain themselves when they find themselves falling forward into hurting whoever they feel is their "enemy".

I'm sure that the US State Department would guarantee a fair and impartial trial, just like the one Muammar Gaddafi received.

I'm not sure Yanukovych is welcome in Moscow, though maybe he's not hated either.

If he were a puppet of Putin's and Putin wanted him gone, he just would've picked up the phone. Instead, the Russians made a very public statement that they wouldn't be going forward with the Ukrainian bailout.

This tells me that Putin may have had some doubts about whether Yanukovich would resign, even if told to do so. So they announced he was persona-non-grata and gave an incentive to anyone with ambition to usurp Yanukovych's position.

Why Putin wanted him gone is still a bit of a mystery to me. I know it had nothing to do with Ukrainians' well-being, though.

Gloves now off between Russia and EU.  Expect Putin to go all in on destabilising EU.  Probably start with fostering active rebellion in the PIIGS.  And all those Muslims throughout Europe can be encouraged to cause strife.

It may take a while, but Russia is used to fighting long battles.

Nothing will happen. Svovoboda will attack the pipelines and the Russian bases. The Ukrainians will enjoy their IMF bailout.

Khodorkovsky insulted Putin. That is the only reason he was jailed. Because at the meeting all the other hydrocarbon wealth extractors who had done as much if not not more theft from the people of Russia have not ended up in jail. Calling him a crook proves you are not honest.

You know exactly what I am talking about. Puck in your net.

Mikhail's only crime was too rape the country of it's natural resources and to insult (YES) the bravado intelligence of 'Vlad the Hammer' Putin!

Putin is not a Stalin (Trotsky) or a Leninist, PERIOD!!!

He is a pure unadulterated reformist! I'm sorry, if you can't get that through your myoptic mindU!?!

i agree that putin should step down sometime in the near future. i also (myself) feel abit queasy of a fledgling democracy turning inward to a dictatorship as we've seen in turkey regarding erdogan. this i hope will change.

by comparison the ussa is predictably in the same situation where democrats and republicans fight over wedge-issues polarizing (note: putin is smart to step down hard on wedge issue that have no significant meaning other than turn the country into a secretarian cesspool) the entire congress, judicial system and presidency. it is by default as your aware of(?) i hope?

the 4th estate is the web in all reality, being that the msm and hollywood are the propaganda machine for whatever parroting political organization gets elected  mimicing the same corporate agenda to fuck the 90% - 95%!

america is a virtual a one-party (it has cross'd the dreaded rubicon?) state! the only difference is that we've had 100 years hence to fabricate, enhanced, critiqued and mediate the psyche of the plebs... this 100% proof 'big-lie' that they drink up as an indulgence of independence. freedom to lay by the great watering hole of progressive prosperities divorced from post`morphing ellusive past-(tense(?), whilst wallowing in the mud flats of a potemkin feudalist society dictated by a handfull of foreign`poliburo bosses? this is not the russia i talk about today, but mother americana!?!

obama is a king-- bush #43 was a king-- clinton was a king-- bush #41 was a king-- reagan was a king-- carter was a king-- etel, on-and-on... all hand-picked and chosen long before their names even became discernible in the foggy, hazy, blissfully naive, and acquiescent  publics-eye,... thus, this had begotton a foreboding and somber metastasized osmosis reality when america handed the purse strings of the greatest country in the world to a... ' collective eminence`grise faustians' consciousness... a gang of satan worshippers per`se in 1910-13!

*Egypt supplies Israel with ~40% +/+ thru its NatGas EMG pipeline.

**Israel and Lebanon (note: Lebanese internal conflicts being exasperated in last couple years via Syria).

***Cyprus got fucked by the EU, as did the Greek's, and Turkey is unexceptable for EU membership? But, Turkey or Syria would be an opportunist wet`dream supplying the EU with NatGas from Tel Aviv, and deleveraging Gasprov (Russian) 33%+/+???

Think long and hard how Russia could circumvent this chess board of useless/full gambits.
