South Carolina City Implements Law Requiring $120 Permit To Feed The Homeless

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

Gandhi famously noted that:

The greatness of a society and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals.

I would agree with that, as well as the obvious observation that a society’s greatness can also be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members. This isn’t to romanticize homelessness or to condemn it. It is merely to note that the homeless are fellow human beings going through their own struggles and difficulties. You may not want to provide them food, but some people do, and there should never be an infringement upon such a basic human right as sharing food with someone who needs it.

Civil rights are often lost in societies by politicians scapegoating unpopular minorities. This happened with jews, gypsies, etc in Nazi Germany and we must be very careful the same does not happen here. One human being should be able to voluntarily give food to another in all cases, without exception. The concept of a permit needed that costs $120 per week is fascist, anti-human and downright evil.

From the Examiner:

Feeding the homeless is about to get harder as a new policy is set to begin this Saturday, Feb. 15, in Columbia, SC. Charities and non-profits well be required to pay a fee and obtain a permit 15 days in advance in order to feed the homeless in parks.

One impacted charity that was interviewed by theFree Times, Food Not Bombs, has been serving food to the homeless in Finlay Park every Sunday for 12 years. The group’s organizer, Judith Turnipseed, noted that the group has an impeccable track record and always tidies up after the meal. But with the new crackdown, Food Not Bombs will have to pay at least $120 per week for the right to feed the homeless.

Since the Columbia City Council approved its exile plan in August, the city has been trying to herd its homeless people to a shelter on the outskirts of town and keep them away from downtown. If charities continue to provide food in downtown parks, the thinking goes, it will allow homeless people to continue to live downtown, rather than being forced to leave.

Remember the famous warning:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me–and there was no one left to speak for me.

- Martin Niemöller (1892–1984)

This is how it always starts. It reminds me of the fact that debtors’ prisons are making a huge comeback in the U.S. It’s always easiest to pick on the weakest members of society, which is why we shouldn’t.

On the rest of the page, a bunch of side-tracked and useless racially-inspired speech ensues, where the Jews, the Muslims, and the Blacks all get their share of racial profiling regarding the decisions of a bunch of white cracker owners on the plantation America called 'South Carolina' (a division of NWO, INC, founded 1871).

"If you eat with a Gentile, it is the same as eating with a dog."  Tosapoth, Jebamoth 94b

"If a Jew has a non-Jewish servant or maid who dies, one should not express sympathy to the Jew. You should tell the Jew: "God will replace 'your loss', just as if one of his oxen or asses had died"."  Jore dea 377, 1

The intent is to force them to go get EBT cards and participate in SNAP. To be dependent on govt, not private charities. It's quid pro quo. The govt. gives you bread, you give the govt your vote. What the sheeple don't realize is they have willingly become slaves to feast on the crumbs from the masters table. Hunger does that. When the slaves outnumber the bread from the master, the slaves have to be culled, or revolutions start.

The good thing about being a fucking idiot , I OBVIOUSLY need NOT TO HAVE another Beer, is that it makes it easier to spot another one,

Part of that whole trade and taxes bullshit you puked out was that for the South their trade and GDP, not to mention the pocket books of the plantation owners, would take a SERIOUS hit if they weren't able to take advantage of all that cheap labor that for the most part had black pigmented skin.  There were a lot of white trash that were caught up as well.  But they did have an advantage simply by being white.

The very nature of the textile trade and the agriculture trade depended on cheap labor.....( hmmmm....didn't I read that from a Chamber of Commerce press release concerning Amnesty......NAAAAHH !!! )

Free up that cheap labor.....give them the right to a living wage, worker's rights, a VOTE....OMG, NOT THE VOTE....and simply the decency of being considered MORE than just 3/5 a man.....that was the AGRESSION my evil Southern ancestors were fighting against.

Motherfucking, slave-holding, crony, corrupt capitalists.....the likes of which have blown up our world, in part, chasing down cheap brown labor from down south of the border and over the western pond in Asia, India....and LO AND BEHOLD....LOOKEE HERE.....WE"RE BACK TO AFRICA AGAIN !!!!

I hate some of the policies that Lincoln enacted during the war that stuck like herpes in perpetuity afterwards.  But the South deserved to get burned to the ground.  My home state of Mississippi deserved the same fate.  South Carolina deserved to go up in flames by Sherman.

And that same good 'ol crony boy hypocritical corruption exists there to this very day.

But if you REALLY want to blame anyone.....blame the FOUNDING FATHERS FOR BEING TOO CHICKEN SHIT TO ABOLISH SLAVERY FROM THE GET GO.  They pissed ALL OVER the whole "ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL" concept.  For GOD's SAKE.....TUNISIA.....FUCKING TUNISIA abolished slavery before we did.

Just another reason that the South deserved to burn.  My anti-South stance concerning the Civil War has nothing to do with the color of one's skin.  It's the principle of liberty.  Anywhere where one man holds another's freedom in his or her hand.....whether that be a white hand or a black hand....deserves Fire and Blood until the man who is held by the hand is free.

And the land that was formed on the principle of freedom....the first and only to be so.....deserved it all the more as an everlasting testament.

If any of you, regardless of the extra-Constitutional moves of Lincoln, for one second still believe that Lincoln's sin against the Constitution was worse than the Original Sin the south perpetrated against the Original and First Cause Principle of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, that being the enshrinement of all humanity's right to be free......then you are not lover's of liberty but charlatans.

No wonder this country was doomed from the beginning.  Between the Federalists, including Washington and Hamilton, destroying the Articles of Confederation in favor of the Constitution and the enactment of the country's first Central Bank, to the cowardice of people such as Jefferson who, while espousing Freedom better than any man during that time, still held other men and women in bondage.....even having sex with one in which from his standpoint of the master / slave relationship, was tantamount to rape,

Oh....but keeping the country together was more important than another's man's freedom.  Liberty will out.....even if she must shed blood and burn the edifaces of bondage to the ground.  For Liberty is in the hearts of us all.

One more thing......if you don't like what Lincoln wrought, blame the Founding Fathers.  There would have been no need of Lincoln if the Founding Fathers, including Jefferson, had not been hypocrites concerning Freedom.

Ok, I guess we're done then. Your man was Sherman.

You're a fucking moron who doesn't have the slightest clue of what happened, why it happened and why you can't get past it.

In short, you should have escaped from the indoctrination camp you called a government school. Your man Sherman...

"On July 5, 1864, Federal General Kenner Garrard's cavalry reached Roswell and finding it undefended, occuiped the city.  General Garrard reported to General William T.Sherman on July 6, 1864 that..." there were fine factories here. I had the building burnt, all were burnt.  The cotton factory was working up to the time of its destruction, some 400 women being employed."

Former Associate Dean of Emory University, Webb Garrison writes of the destruction of the Roswell Mills.  He says..."incidents of this occurred repeatedly throughout the Civil War.  Had the usual attitudes prevailed, the destruction of the industrial complex would have ended the matter. That it did not was due to the temperament and inclination of the man (Sherman)."

What General Sherman did next would shock good people in the North and create a mystery that has endured to this day.  On July 7,1864, Sherman reported to his superiors in Washington... "I have ordered General Garrard to arrest for treason all owners and employees, foreign and native (of the Roswell Mills), and send them under guard to Marietta, whence I will send them North."

Your generals Sherman and Sheridan (among many, many others) were not much better than the Einsatzgruppen. Sheridan remarking after the war "The only good Indian, is a dead Indian." can only give slight insight into his homocidal tendencies.

So, how about going and fucking yourself or just STFU about shit you have no clue of given your brainwashing.

Intellectual fraud.  Union states that were slave states during the War of Northern Aggression: Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia.

Let's examine this time line of moral frauds: 1) some northen states realize that slavery is wrong.  2) northern states SELL their slaves to the south (rather than free them).  3) northern states invade southern states, and later invent the pretext that it's because slavery is wrong.

The answer is...4!! Four states in the entire union, North and South. If in fact the war was to free the blacks, don't you think it likely that the Union states would have allowed them to vote?

Read up on the Black Codes in place in every Northern state (Yeah, you actually need to read some books. Not fucking likely, I know).  Why were blacks prohibited from even entering some Northern states without posting $1000 bond (Illinois) if allowed at all (Indiana)?  Why did some Northern states (Connecticut and New Jersey) amend their state constitutions long before the war to forbid blacks having voting rights?

Barely over 5% of the population owned slaves (download the 1860 cwnsus and crunch the numbers, the data is there) you really think soldiers on either side fought over who had pet Negroes? Really? Read some actual books from vets of the war, nobody gave a damn about them on either side. You will in fact find a large number of memoirs of Yankee soldiers who make it crystal clear that they despised blacks utterly and had no interest in whether they were slaves or free.

You have a cartoonish, Nickelodeon/Disney Channel view of American history. Please atone for your pathetic guilt and go slug down a quart of Drano.

Yes, the self-deception was there at the beginning and it includes the talk about liberty too. The revolt of the colonies against the crown was never about liberty, it was about not having to be accountable. Having won, they had to pretend it was about something lofty and invented "liberty". Sound bites that Americans keep mindlessly repeating till today.

Liberty for most Americans of that day meant depriving the natives of their lives and lands. So the Southerners didn't find anything really odd about holding a few slaves to work the plantations. If it is OK to deprive someone of their life to get hold of their property (which practically every white American or one of the ancestors was party to without any guilt), what is not so OK about depriving someone of their liberty for the fruits of their labour, especially if they weren't of one's kind?

But to their credit, the founding bandits did stir up imaginations with that document called the constitution, although it is extremely doubtful if even one of them believed it.

I fought the argument that the CW was about slavery by making the psuedo argument that it was really about economics for a long time. That dog won't hunt. It WAS economic only because slavery provided cheap labor, but that makes it about preserving an inhuman instutition.

I have lived here all my life and I've come to the conclusion that while the rest of the country has it's problems I think there are more deranged psychotics and narcissists (READ: bigots and racists) here than any other part of the country.

James Pettigru once said, "South Carolina is too small to be an independent nation and too large to be an asylum."

Sorry bud, but I've studied this carefully for the last 20 years. Go back and read your history - and I don't mean the revisionist crap that comes out today - but read the newspapers and letters of the early 1800's. One nice slim book you might try is called "1831: year of eclipse" but there are many more out there. You will find that the reasoning and justification that the south gives to their eventual collapse in common sense is "states rights" (it always makes me think of that quote by that Japanese General - what the fuck were we thinking?) - but what the underlying root cause of this is undeniably the slavery issue. The shame of it is that now - when slavery (at least based on color) is illegal, when it appears what we may need most in future is the ability to splinter away from the slimemold called the federal government, people like you who continue to plow that unfertile and idiotic line of reasoning harm the cause of those of us who would argue that NOW we have a real reason - and a real right - to explore this separation. I will agree with you that Lincoln and his party acted unconstitutionally when they went to war to force the union to continue, and yes, it seems as if the more powerful northern political interests had abused their control by implementing their tariff's - hurting the south in order to protect and engender northern manufacturing growth - but let's face it - if the union had failed I'd be signing off like this: Sieg Heil

You must be referring to the War of Northern Agression, in which the Yankee states attempted to take away the rights of the Southern States to self-govern. They did this under the guise of freeing the slaves although Lincoln only freed slaves in the South (not in the North) with his Emancipation Proclamation. Just 150 short years later folks like you think the whole things was just about slavery and that everyone in the South today are racist hillbillies. Good luck with that limited view of the world.

Not really. Its working as intended. Columbia SC is rapidly gentrifying and a lot of money is being poured into parks, recreation and city areas around amenities. Parents were complaining that their children could not use the parks due to drugs and other behavior children should not be exposed to. The council and residents want the homeless to vacate the park. I completely understand that parents do not want their kids running around on broken needles and beer bottles, but there was never any consideration given to the homeless in terms of offering them a better life nor any type of solution that would be helpful to them. People want them to get out and get out they will. Out of sight, out of mind. Even if they cancel their plans to fine people and make them get a permit for acts of charity, the homeless will still be removed most likely by cops for petty violations.

This type of behavior on the part of local government is getting more and more common for cities who are trying to expand their tax base and deal with crime by removing populations. Its the wave of the future and its heart breaking.

I was going to touch on that, I seen it when I lived in "the city".

You don't want to advertise "free food" as you will draw more hungry to the park, from surrounding areas too. And some bad elements with that.

You're right, I seen it at Williams Park in the burg, the cops will come in and roust them out, eventually. Needles and shitting in the bushes ain't cool. We all tend to think someone just down on their luck and a few locals to give charity and help in some small way, thats not always the case.

But for the city to cut off (make harder) the act of genuine charity (through a fee) shows a little more than heartlessness. Its profiting on the heartlessness too.

Sadly too many homeless should be in treatment for mental illness.  Their behavior leaves a great deal to be desired as far as public venues goes.  The local homeless shelter is located close to the city centere but 'out of the way' in the sense that it's near a hospital and across from a church, bounded on one side by a major road but otherwise not particularly close to any private residences or  heavily trafficked (with pedestrians) areas.

While 1/5 to 1/4 of the shelter residents are actually WORKING (albeit in low paying jobs that do not pay enough for them to afford a place on their own - rents are expensive around here) another 1/5 of the residents have SERIOUS issues (even defecating on the floors of rooms at the shelter).   I used to see the same types under the elevated Bruckner either drugged out and sitting there all day or ranting and raving at unseen bogeymen depending on whether they were on or off meds.

Deinstitutionalization took the mentalliy ill out of both good and bad hospitals - and dumped most of them on the street with little support.   And as compassionate as you migh twant to be in the abstract you aren't likely to voluntarily put up with their behavior on a regular basis.  The church across from the shelter mentioned above has recurring problems with some of the homeless from the shelter for these reasons. Untreated, their behavior is 'erratic' at best, often unsocial and occasionally a real danger for others.

Back in the 60s there were a lot of old fire trapish Victorians that rented rooms cheap. Bums and poor souls could clean up a saloon parking lot, break down cardboard boxes at stores, wash windows and scrape enough change to drink cheap and get off the streets at no cost to the public purse. Well the rooming houses were zoned, inspection failed out of business, small human businesses were taxed to best and highest use ( make them bleed ) giving way to national chains. Next came the wellfare profiteers of shelters, advocates and others also living off the tax payer.
We always had shelter dwellers, its just now it has been profitized by public/private 'non-profit' corporations that do superfine for theselves by doing "good", supposedly.

Most politicians when they spout off about them being "Business Man" this and "Business Friendly" that, are cronies.  The crony capitalists have one of their own in the halls of government to make sure that THEIR interests are served and NOT the people.

Just look at that mess in North Carolina concerning the coal ash spill by Duke Energy.  Governor Pat McCrory was a Duke employee working his way up the food chain until he was given his orders by the boss to run for City Council of Charlotte which he won and used that success to win the Mayor's seat of Charlotte.  The only problem was he was still on the payroll of Duke Energy.

Then he uses the Mayor's position to launch his bid for governor which he bought....errr.....won with the help of a million dollars from Duke.

And then he stacks his administration with other Duke cronies including the Secretary of Transportation.

For part of their reward Duke did not have to spend a whole lot of money cleaning up the mess of coal ash they had been producing like the other utilities in that state.  Isn't that curious.....the other utilities did it.....but not Duke even though they were blatantly breaking the law.  All Duke did was bury it in unlined holes in the ground alongside rivers and around aquifers with pipes that would drain the supposedly clean water after the heavier particulates floated to the bottom out to the rivers.  These pipes and the earthen dikes surrounding the ponds are what broke precipitating the spill.

But hey....McCrory is the "Businessman" Governor.  He's a Republican who recently....out of HIS OWN MOUTH....said he was siding up to the Tea Party.

I betcha "Bo" is just the same type there in Columbia, SC.

I think I understand what your saying but let me clarify... Basically rich businessmen felt so bad for the poor, hungry, homeless people that they lobbied city council to ban feeding them...

Either your ignorant, an idiot, or just plain evil...

And a WHOLE lot of them....perhaps the MAJORITY of them....are drunks and drug addicts in the pursuit of quelling the pain brought on by hopelessness.  Institutionalized racism.....the loss of a job due to the global wage (slave) arbitrage, the financial ponzi, the injustice system that beats down the man and woman after they are already down and out.

What have you done to "enable" them to STOP being beggars ?  What if that "enabling"hand out gave that person just one more day of life for a breakthrough to come their the simple act of kindness from YOU ?

With food stamps and all the other shit that the government provides how the fuck do people not have access to food? This isn't North Korea.

Ive seen news stories where UE people are walking out of grocery stores with lobsters for Christ sakes.
