And The Person Who Foresaw It All Is...

Tyler Durden's picture

The was a time when everyone loved making fun of GOP vice presidential canidate Sarah Palin. It's her turn to get the final laugh.

As CBS recounts, in October 2008, after Russia's invasion of neighboring Georgia emerged as a foreign policy flashpoint in the homestretch of a heated campaign, Palin told an audience in Nevada, "After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama's reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia's Putin to invade Ukraine next."

Just as amusing was the response to Palin's comments by foreign policy experts, Foreign Policy magazine, which said, "As we've said before, this is an extremely far-fetched scenario. And given how Russia has been able to unsettle Ukraine's pro-Western government without firing a shot, I don't see why violence would be necessary to bring Kiev to heel."

Coming just a few months after subprime turned out not to be contained despite everyone's fervent belief that it was, this is not all that surprising.

And now it's time to gloat: "I'm usually not one to Told-Ya-So, but I did, despite my accurate prediction being derided as 'an extremely far-fetched scenario' by the 'high-brow' Foreign Policy magazine," Palin wrote Friday.

"Here's what this 'stupid,' 'insipid woman' predicted in 2008," she added, before rehashing her prediction.

Talk radio host Mark Levin tweeted, "Palin not only knows where Russia is, but she knew what Putin would do to Ukraine with Obama as president."

Then again, back in 2008 a lot of people were also talking about hope and change. Five years later people have to look up the definition of hope, as for change, the best place to find it is in the 11 million people who have dropped out of the labor force in that time.

Fred:

What are you doing up so early in the morning? :)

I was just checking my up and down arrows and got a smile out of your comment last night.

I thought of another reason why I like Palin: She's the parent of a Down Syndrome child. So am I. She having the strength to even show up at political events is amazing. Believe me about this.

Oh, and I think it would be fine if she ran for vice president as long as someone really tough was the presidential candidate. That wouldn't be McCain. I'd suggest Ann Coulter.

I'm not suggesting this ticket because I am a Republican. I'm not red or blue. I am, however, interested in hearing what intelligent non-mainstream individuals could offer to the political debate.

Regards!

Secrect (I kinda like Palin myself, but it is hard to say something like that and defend it around here or anywhere. Just a gut feel). I was just cracking off some wise ass stuff last night and got that crazy troll sylvia going.

Listen, I'm the biggest skeptic when it comes to the spy-riddled, money-soaked Tea Party phenomenon (when has significant, genuine change ever come from within an utterly corrupt and doomed system??), but let's give great where credit is due.

She may not have 'taught' Constitutional law, but at least I know she's read it and agrees with it.

Not many you can say that about in Washington.

The Dems spent 8 years or more calling Reagan stupid and a clown actor. Same shit, different day. Funny how many conservative politicians are demeaned and ridiculed by those on the high ground of bleeding heart utopianism. Fact is, Palin was never stupid and she had something we need badly - integrity. I'd rather we had a leader beholden to a set of American principles than European wannabe cocktail party bragging rights.

I've gotta go....fix waffles and get ready for church.

But not before giving you an up arrow for your thought.

I agree with you.

Thanks!

(Why don't we all go to church today? :))

Church... been there, done that. Here is my idea for a church: You get a handful of families and get together regularly to study the bible and share thoughts. Rotate at each others' houses and maybe share the duties of leading the group. Although my experience has been that a church of any size has at least half a dozen people who had been a pastor at one time and can't make a living at it. Families bring their offering and give some of it to the guy trying to make his living at it. This could be a nice side income for someone who wants to pursue that and it would help them hone their skills. The rest of the offering can be given to help a worthy cause in the community.

No money WASTED on an under utilized building, salaries, insurance, pensions, vehicles, etc. I have seen churches with million dollar budgets who cannot bring but maybe 1 person "to Christ" in a calendar year. Talk about a low ROI! Tons of fake people who grew up in the church, but have no clue as to what JC, Gospels, Sermon on the Mount is all about. For many it is a paycheck or a lifestyle that is comforting to THEM.

Well Bob, I am done bitchin for now :)

You my friend are right on!

I'm attending a mainstream church until such time that I can start a home fellowship as you suggest.

It will be lay led and unregistered (with the IRS).

God bless you.

Spurred on by his success with Sarah Palins Ukraine comment, Monkey4762 continues his automatic typing quest to recreate Shakespeare. A slight unease overcomes him as he recalls past typings, that gays will turn schoolchildren gay and arm them, attacking and taking over America (or was it Amercan Idol?)...... At least it's another one in the win column. Hopefully his latest job moonlighting on the Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show writing staff will pay the bills so he can continue his work.

Seriously?  THis is anti Russian propaganda - it is suggesting that it the role of the US to respond to Russia with military force in the Ukraine.  That is what this article is saying - it is rubbish, it is sht and it is not the kind of thing I expected from ZH.

The fact that Obama didnt start lobbing nukes over Georgia, is not a reason for the US to go and stick their noses into Ukraine - this article is nonesense, and its conclusion is an utter disgrace.

It's my guess that if Hillary was prez, this shit in Ukraine would be going down a little differently.

I mean, who would you rather go up against in a fight? Smiling, skinny Barack? Or that lifelong grudge-bearing, post-menopausal, seething-beneath-the-surface nearly-raging bitch? Hillary can queef an aircraft carrier quickly than Putin can cup his hands to his crotch to protect his balls.

Putin: "But... the Crimea was ours before WWII. I mean... I mean..."

Hillary: "WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE!!!"

Sarah never made those comments but Obama did make these comments:

"When I meet with world leaders, what's striking -- whether it's in Europe or here in Asia..." -mistakenly referring to Hawaii as Asia while holding a press conference outside Honolulu, Nov. 16, 2011

"I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go." --at a campaign event in Beaverton, Oregon

"It was also interesting to see that political interaction in Europe is not that different from the United States Senate. There's a lot of -- I don't know what the term is in Austrian, wheeling and dealing." --confusing German for "Austrian," a language which does not exist, Strasbourg, France, April 6, 2009

"I'm here with the Girardo family here in St. Louis." --speaking via satellite to the Democratic National Convention, while in Kansas City, Missouri, Aug. 25, 2008

Palin and Peter Schiff both took the same "I told you so" class at Stopped Clock University. Bill Gertz was also in the class, but was expelled because he would not stop his off-topic shouting about China.

Next up: Palin wins big in Vegas. Oh no, wait... we just uncovered some new information... turns out Palin studied geopolitics at Harvard.. she's a geopolitical genius! She only sounds stupid to some of us because we confuse provincialism with simplicity and ignorance, like we did with W. After all, the career path from beauty queen to governor of America's largest state is obvious.

While lamely trying to bash Palin, Flakmeister forgot to mention what Obama brilliantly once said about Israel:

"Let me be absolutely clear. Israel is a strong friend of Israel's. It will be a strong friend of Israel's under a McCain...administration. It will be a strong friend of Israel's under an Obama administration. So that policy is not going to change." --Amman, Jordan, July 22, 2008

Hmmm, Maybe she really can see Russia from her house. I'm not sure we would have lived through Mccain being elected president. I'm positive that we would have been another hot war with that guy in charge and as far as Sarah goes her voice is enough to drive me out of the room. One thing (maybe the only thing) I can give Obama credit for is very slowly getting us out of Iran and Afghanistan. He almost had us more involved Syria and was lucky in Libya though so I'm not sure that we won't be involved in something new before he is done. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. There is nothing we can effectively do to keep Russian speaking Ukrainians from gravitating toward Russa and we need to butt out of their business.

Ukraine sealed its eventual doom when it agreed to give up its share of the Soviet nuclear arsenal in 1994. They aren't even able to properly resist the Russian invasion on the ground. Taking Ukraine will be a cakewalk for Putin.

Any country without deliverable nukes is not really sovereign. That is cold, hard reality.

She has great taste in shoes too, but I still don't want her anywhere near our national seats of power.   That goes for Bachman as well.  There are loads of women in politics with real, functional IQs and looks as well.  Why can't we find one of them as our pinup doll for 2016?
