The Invasion So Far: Visual Summary Of Russian Forces And Movements

Tyler Durden's picture

Moments ago Interfax reported that two Russian anti-submarine warships have appeared off the coast of Ukraine's Crimea region, violating an agreement on Moscow's lease of a naval base, according to a Ukrainian military source as saying. Then again what else would a Ukrainian military source say. The source added that the two vessels, part of Russia's Baltic Fleet, had been sighted in a bay at Sevastopol, where Moscow's Black Sea Fleet has a base.

So imagine two extra anti-sub ships off Sevastopol in the map below which until this latest update from Contemporary Issues and Geography, was keeping an accurate running update of all the most recent developments in the staggered Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

Ukraine asks for protection of NATO

http://www.pravda.com.ua/news/2014/03/1/7016885/

Don`t forget this:

1997 Charter on a Distinctive Partnership
between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Ukraine:
14. NATO Allies will continue to support Ukrainian sovereignty and independence, territorial integrity, democratic development, economic prosperity and its status as a non-nuclear weapon state, and the principle of inviolability of frontiers, as key factors of stability and security in Central and Eastern Europe and in the continent as a whole.
15. NATO and Ukraine will develop a crisis consultative mechanism to consult together whenever Ukraine perceives a direct threat to its territorial integrity, political independence, or security.
16. NATO welcomes and supports the fact that Ukraine received security assurances from all five nuclear-weapon states parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as a non-nuclear weapon state party to the NPT, and recalls the commitments undertaken by the United States and the United Kingdom, together with Russia, and by France unilaterally, which took the historic decision in Budapest in 1994 to provide Ukraine with security assurances as a non-nuclear weapon state party to the NPT.

Poland will ask for it, Baltic states will ask for it, Romania and Hungary will ask for it.

Invasion of Ukraine=Poland 1939 or WW3.

Buckaroo Banzai's picture

Lots of weasel words in there. Basically says that NATO will be happy to hold hands and sing kumbaya for Ukraine. Odds of NATO getting involved militarily asymptotically approach zero. Besides, Obama is to busy destroying the USA from within to waste time on Ukraine.

semperfidelis's picture

That would deal an unfix-able blow to NATO and US standing on the world stage. It will not happen. You will have WW3 first.

The Budapest memorandum is fundamental. If security assurances are nullified Iran will never give up nuclear weapons. Putin`s invasion bluff was called by the Kiev authorities (most likely under direct US recommendation). I say Russia will fold. If they don`t, WW3.

IridiumRebel's picture

Russia will not fold. They seem all in now. Add a Chinese block via the UN Security Council and we got problems.

It wasn't lies.  That's just pillow talk, baby.

The Shootist's picture

They go all in with superior firepower, like in Georgia. Which surprised me when their allies didn't help.

On their way to Odessa, at the least.

Putin is really screwing up Yulia Tymoshenko's attempts to be queen of all Ukraine. But then, Putine doesn't like queens very much does he?

The US will sit back and suck it up. If they had the balls and the insanity to act on ukraine, they woulda acted on syria

Even Turkey's close to internal political implosion.

Relying on distant powerful allies to intervene has always been high-risk, but against a nuclear aggressor - forget it.

And Nuclear-Umbrellas don't work because the umbrella holder is gonna quickly realize it does not actually want to be involved in a nuclear war thanks.

"Look, we like you guys, we like you a lot in fact, but after careful consideration we regret to inform you that we're withdrawing the commitment to supply a nuclear-umbrella. All the best and yada-yada-yada ..."

In other words, we offered you the umbrella assurances to make sure you would not be building your own nuclear deterrence, so that we could manipulate you, and you fell for it, and we apologise profusely that this has resulted in your being a disposable minor front-line pawn of our geopolitical gamesmanship, and that your national strategic defense was unfortunately completely non-existent and backed by a load of old bollocks.

Try not to be so gullible and .. err ... better luck in the next life.

Okay.. okay.. enough of all this Ukraine, Putin, WW3 stuff.  The real virtual men here want to talk about Bitcoin.

Yeah, what about that!? lol

@semper = member of the jarhead clan... Shriekers that proclaim that the sky will fall if the US doesn't maintain providence over how every man, woman and child on the planet wipes their collective asses... Time for a bit of de-programming @semper...

I was singing that all Friday night & day!

Well, at least you seem to be keeping your sense of humor during the collapse of your entire financial plan.

When did Bitcoin "collapse" dipshit?

So there are no problems in candyland then?

Well there's a few angry nerds who lost out to Mt.Gox you could talk to if you like but here on ZH it's war babie and not with your 1's and 0's today. X

Let's list the countries in the neighborhood that have enough scientific and technical oomph to run a successful nuclear program who have to be wondering whether they've been gullible too. My list includes the following

Poland,
Romania,
Serbia,
Turkey.

Non-neighbors would include

Japan,
South Korea,
Saudi Arabia,

All of these countries will continue to say they rely on defense assurances from the US and EU. All of them, right now, are either dusting off or strengthening their national 'Plan B' defense strategies. This is not a good world.

...just had a sicko thought: why not enlist and send over to Ukraine all ther spineless fucks know as TSA? Those fucktards would turn in their badges.Yes, their stinkin' badges.' Tin sheriff no dick pricks that are true sociopaths. TSA at the front lines of Democracy on the outskirts of Kiev---it brings a tear to one's eye!

I can't blame the Russkies; after all, the Ukrainian women are by far the hottest and most beautiful women in all of Europe. They are a treasure definitely worth protection.

Which side are we on again?

The dictator or the terrorists?

Hephaestus's picture

Nobody knows after McCain and Kerry openly declared for al qaeda in the Syrian conflict. This marine expressed his displeasure directly to McCain.

Keyser's picture

We have seen the enemy and he is us. Never in history has this statement been more true. Our leaders are obviously working in concert with factions on all sides of a geo-political crisis. The Ukraine is a prime example. The uprising was instigated and funded by Soros, a known minion of the Rothschilds...

Eisenhorn's picture

This is still about Syria IMO.   Syria BY ITSELF wasn't enough to make the Russians fold.  Now they have to deal with Ukraine.  Watch for Syria to RE-IGNITE.

This is about spreading the Russians thin so that they cannot keep Assad in power.  Kuwaiti Nat Gas to Europe via Syria.

Unless of course you believe that it is just a coincidence that two of the most critical Russian proxy states (Syria and Ukraine) just happen to have uprisings within a year of each other.....

Predictions of 'false flag' events in Ukraine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq5uOe7kzkI

DFCtomm's picture

WTF? Why would you need a false flag, when you have real fucking flags. I figure Ukraine is going to start shooting. That's what I would do. Make this a hot war for Russia, instead of a peaceful slow motion occupation. It's a lot harder for the world to look away when the lead is flying.

FilthyPhil37's picture

Ukraine would be Georgia'd in a matter or weeks if it starts shooting. Think German-led EU will come to protect a non-member against their gas supplier? Think jaded American Empire come to rescue slavs from slavs?

fuck off moron

DFCtomm's picture

They aren't being Georgia'd now? Yes I think the U.S. might come to their rescue under the right circumstances. Ukraine just has to be smart enough to create those circumstances. I'd actually focus on the U.K. if I were them. The "treaty" is probably binding against them, and then the U.S. will probably be pulled in.

Time for decent people everywhere in the world to start killing Russians.

Seals. Aren't they in Afghanistan finishing up America's total victory in the war on Taliban.

sushi's picture

They are busy pivoting to Aisa in preparation for total victory on some half submerged rock that everybody seems to own.

After this debacle, I'm thinking that China owns those rocks.

"Seals. Aren't they in Afghanistan finishing up America's total victory in the war on Taliban."

Speaking of which, aren't western forces still reliant on Russian airspace access to get their remaining shit out of Afghanistan?

BraveSirRobin's picture

No, the Pakistanis are helping us leave. It's in their interests to do so.

TungstenBars's picture

I don't think you want to be threatening people that might come find you.

Hephaestus's picture

The Seals and the other SF teams are the good guys. Who do think will be training the citizens if the SHTF. What ever happens they will always come to America's aid.

Overfed's picture

Yeah, right. The SEALs are the CIA's wetwork kill squad. They're gonna be (if they aren't  already) training the DHS/FBI/BATF/ICE brownshirts.

mumcard's picture

They're attack dogs, they're not sheep dogs.

Dead Wrong, Benghazi woke up all the SF guys...I know several who woke up to the horror of their real expendability almost overnight.

Well duh... They are the sharp end of the stick and have always been expendable. It's the nature of the beast.
