John Kerry Slams "Incredible Act Of Aggression", NATO Says Russia "Must Stop"

Tyler Durden's picture

Just in case Obama's Friday message of "costs" should Russia invade Ukraine, which it did, was lost in translation, here is NATO with the clarification, and more harsh language:

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen convened an emergency meeting of NATO ambassadors in Brussels on Sunday to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

Ahead of the meeting he issued the following statement:

I have convened the North Atlantic Council today because of Russia's military action in Ukraine. And because of President Putin's threats against this sovereign nation.

What Russia is doing now in Ukraine violates the principles of the United Nations Charter. It threatens peace and security in Europe. Russia must stop its military activities and its threats.

Today we will discuss their implications, for European peace and security, and for NATO's relationship with Russia.

Afterwards, we will meet in the NATO-Ukraine Commission.

We support Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty. We support the right of the people of Ukraine to determine their own future without outside interference. And we emphasize the need for Ukraine to continue to uphold the democratic rights of all people and ensure that minority rights are protected.

Ukraine is our neighbour, and Ukraine is a valued partner for NATO.

We urge all parties to urgently continue all efforts to move away from this dangerous situation. In particular, I call on Russia to de-escalate tensions.

And just in case both Obama and NATO were misunderstood, here is Kerry appearing on CBS' Face the Nation laying down the law, and even more harsh language:

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday condemned Russia's "incredible act of aggression" in Ukraine and threatened "very serious repercussions" from the United States and other countries, including sanctions to isolate Russia economically.

"You just don't in the 21st century behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pre-text," Kerry told the CBS program "Face the Nation."

Kerry, however, added that Russia still has "a right set of choices" that can be made to defuse the crisis.

"It's an incredible act of aggression. It is really a stunning, willful choice by President (Vladimir) Putin to invade another country. Russia is in violation of the sovereignty of Ukraine. Russia is in violation of its international obligations," Kerry added.

Kerry said U.S. President Barack Obama told Putin in a 90-minute phone call on Saturday that "there will be serious repercussions if this stands. The president ... told Mr. Putin that it was imperative to find a different path, to roll back this invasion and un-do this act of invasion."

Kerry said G8 nations and some other countries are "prepared to go to the hilt to isolate Russia" with a "broad array of options" available.

"They're prepared to put sanctions in place, they're prepared to isolate Russia economically, the ruble is already going down. Russia has major economic challenges," Kerry said, as he also mentioned visa bans, asset freezes and trade isolation as possible steps.

Some great soundbites: we can't wait for the White House to release the obligatory photo op, which we assume would look somewhat different than this.

Russia's response?

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on Sunday when asked for a response to harsh words from U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who condemned Russia's "incredible act of aggression" in Ukraine. "No comment at the moment," Peskov said.

Just laughter.

"You just don't in the 21st century behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pre-text,"

In 21st century one should learn to arrange coups through intelligence agencies and NGOs or conduct false flag attacks on domestic soil to justify foreign military entanglements. Putin seems to be tired of this charade.

Lumberjack,

Kerry lied like a child.  I was there, and the things described by Kerry [starting at ?6:30 in the video] were largely fabrications. Lies made up to self-aggrandize John Kerry.

In every war there are atrocities. But Kerry describes so many, so often, that he cannot be telling the truth in that testimony.

Apparently Kerry was still in the military when he testified. How was he allowed to have that excessive hair-do? Why was he not dishonorably discharged for giving aid and comfort to the same enemy that was killing Americans?

Kerry has always had some powerful protectors. Just like Obama:

The West is weak.  NATO and the US will watch as the Ukraine is absorbed into greater Russia.  They will bitch and maybe pass sanctions, but even the sanctiions won't last once Russsia cuts off Europe's natural gas.

It is spring, so cutting gas is not as efficient.
Sanctions are funny thing, as the most Russia's export is raw materials, the most of import is from Europe, which will quickly go into deep fall, if they try. The most efficient is to start blocking crooked Russian politics accounts, but most had already transferred money to Russia - they had been warned 12-18 months ago.

you really have no clue what would cutting the gas do to the european businesses

our entire electricity grid and the necessary potential to keep the grid stable

depends on the russian gas doofus!! at least in eastern europe

there is something called Vapor and Gas Power Cycles

which keep the grid stable

without the gas the entire grid would collapse

and re-starting it would be hell of a mess even if things went

as they are supposed to

Germans and their auto industries would be pissing their pants

the very moment the gas stops flowing

Ukraine and Peter Schiff: Recovery Fantasy, Dollar Crash Below 80.00 And Gold "Wall of Worry".

Peter Schiff is discussing the very weak economic data released this week, Gold market's "Wall of Worry" in mass media and Gold stocks potential. We will add to the discussion the main development for us this week. It is the situation in Ukraine, which came almost out of nowhere for a lot of investors and now threatens the stability in Europe at least and has caused the major decline in US Dollar below the very important level of 80.00.

Obama can have his own war finally after the few unsuccessful attempts with YouTube evidence in Syria. We do hope that it will be only Financial War and we can see the first rounds of it this week. Initially US Dollar went up on the escalation of the situation in Ukraine - as any potential military action in the world is supposed to be positive for the U.S. Military Complex, but on Friday with major headlines from Moscow about Ukraine Dollar has dived decisively below 80.00 to the 79.78 close. After these U.S. actions in Ukraine considered as an insult by the Kremlinthe least you can expect is selling of the US Treasuries by Russia and, maybe, already accelerating of selling by China as well . They have been already smelling the rat about the USTs Game Of Musical Chairs for a long time. It is just too personal. None of these two countries - or it will be better say leaders - would like to be liberated next in any circumstances.

The big difference with Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria is that all those countries can not be compared to Russia and China even close. These two countries have means to make life very messy for everybody involved and U.S. has managed to be involved with both. It is getting very hot very fast in Ukraine with Russia and you can imaging who is orchestrating China - Japan confrontation as well. It is not the way to make friends and find the new buyers for U.S. Debt or even retain the old ones. Are those people who write the teleprompter for Obama just went totally crazy? We do not think so. Unfortunately the friends are lost long time along the way with ongoing US Treasury sales by Russia and China and diversification out of US Dollar. Now we are witnessing the very dangerous play with the last asset left in U.S. from Super Power stage - its Military Complex. There is nothing to match it in the open confrontation, but if we will be all lucky to exclude mutual nuclear distraction, we can expect a lot of asymmetrical steps from the Rising Powers. Ongoing Financial War can now be considered to be escalating to the dramatically new levels.   Gold was managed to the downside to hide the ongoing disaster at least for the weekend. The opening of Gold market in Asia on Sunday evening will be very interesting with the ongoing escalation in Ukraine and reported authorisation by the Russian Upper House of Parliament the use of military force in Crimea to insure "stability in the region". http://sufiy.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/ukraine-and-peter-schiff-recovery.ht...

He who owns the gold is already king of the hill and the American military already knows it no longer has the funds to fight a war against an actual army. You can bet that recent think tank war games have already revealed that the dollar would well and truly vaporize along with its globally entrenched settlement system if truly pushed to the test. It's already grown incredibly fragile and brittle. American troops would be stranded throughout the world without pay or supplies. The USSR suffered that fate, though on a far lesser scale of what could well happen to the US.

Nothing will come of this, except that NATO's grand strategy for full-spectrum-dominance will have finally been brought to a screeching halt amid vastly inflated rhetoric from the great horseface. The imminent fall of the dollar from reserve currency status has already turned the US into an ink-stained paper tiger. "Stacy Summary: h/t @slothrop. Very fascinating. Dmitry grew up in Soviet-occupied Finland (as my Finnish relatives call it) but lives in America.

Reichstag Fire in Kiev

The killings were followed by a professionally orchestrated public relations campaign, complete with a catchy name—“Heaven’s Hundred” (“???????? ?????”)—complete with candlelight vigils, rapid clean-up and laying of wreaths at the scene of the crime and so on.

Unfortunately, this name has a nasty antecedent in the “Black Hundred” (“?????? ?????”), which was the name of a coalition of Ukrainian anti-Semites and ultra-right-wing nationalists back in 1905. It is illustrative of a certain ham-handedness on the part of the PR campaign’s authors, and bears a similarity to the choice of white ribbons—a World War II symbol worn by Nazi collaborators and Wehrmacht auxiliaries in Nazi-occupied territories—which were shipped in from abroad for the anti-government demonstrations in Moscow in December of 2011. These demonstrations are commonly thought to have been organized by Western NGOs. It would seem that the same PR organization is behind both events. Wouldn’t it then make sense to assume that this PR organization is staffed by fascists, hence their consistent choice of fascist symbols and terminology?

And, finally, Dmitry invites you to look at this video to see what fascism looks like:" ..s.h./d.o.

The entire Caucasus region is a powder keg. Armenia and Azerbaijan have been on the verge of war for years. Georgia still wants it's territory back, and Saudi Arabia is going to be happy to help Chechnya when Russia is is a conflict. Turkey is in chaos. Syria, Iraq, Lebanon...and not to mention the entire Middle East. This definitely has a 1914 feel to it.

Unfortunately US foreign policy is not about representing US citizens. The "US" is simply a proxy for concentrated global financial domination by certain corporate interests. Regulatory capture has completely taken over. US representatives do the bidding of their corporate masters. American "citizens" are merely window dressing by way of location.

How Russia felt in the 1990s is the disrespect the US and EU are facing in ten years, this is just the beginning. My guess is Washington will try to maintain or resuscitate its superpower image in the Pacific, as it has a much better case to make in that context. The EU will have to buy Russian gas so the humiliations will not stop for them.

Watching Lurch on Meet the Press, and the absolute hypocrisy is breath-taking. The lies are absolutely brazen.

Fellow tribesman Dick Gregory's referring to fellow tribeswoman Andre Mitchell's question about the potential annexation of Crimea being a casus belli is further evidence that Putin is not only engaged in a struggle against the international western banks, but against the international, organized zionist forces which have largely hijacked the foreign policy of the US and UK and to a signficant extent Canada, Australia and France.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poJ-_80_JWg

His absurd questions about Syria, adhering to the narrative found in the NYT, then the tacked on discussion about Netanyahu in which Kohn claims without evidence that Bibi has made 'sacrifices' and 'tough choices' instead of the sham diplomacy it has been, is further proof that it is not just about Crimea, or the EU, or the IMF, but the wishes of transnational zionism.

And now AIPAC lackey Mark Rubio is on to toe the line.  Talking about the Russian government breaking treaties and being liars... as if the US government has any moral highground on which to stand.

Gregory is such a zionist hack he makes wolf blitzer look like a BDS advocate.

only one super zionist on the panel? What will Jeff Goldberg [who served in the Israeli army before moving back to the US to make a living writing about ...Israel.... but you're an "antisemite" if you suggest he's primarily loyal to a foreign country]...

and of course, he's referencing his question to obama, will the iranians be sufficiently scared of the US since he backed away from his "red line"

Of course, there's no evidence that Iran is working on a nuclear weapon, our own intelligence agencies said as much while the Israelis have said Iran was months away for 20 years...

And of course the chemical weapons attack on civilians in Syria was almost certainly done by one of the jihadi foreign mercenary terror groups, likely provided by the Saudis.

But Goldberg is there to keep hammering home the lies.  The lies his fellow neocon jews {and the neocons were mostly right wing jews} used to help lies us into Iraq.

Of course, the Global Banking Empire, largely overlapping with International Organized Zionism, also craves the debt that a major war would create.

You can count on not being able to count on the antiwar movement with a black "progressive" in office.  And once Hillary gets in, we will have 8 easy years of war on demand for the people who have installed her into power.

And they want to complete the remaking of the middle east as the link above discusses.

Expect more war, folks. None of it pertaining to the national or even energy or financial security of the United States, but to the tremendous benefit of the international banks, MIC, and Israel.

Oh my fucking God!

wow Putin is something, first he takes Bob Krafts Super Bowl Ring, now he hits John Kerry in the eye? this is Kerry's audition for the job of POTUS. Hillary had his job, and all she came away with is Benghazi. (which is good)

to be supreme leader you must prove you can handle the job, you have to screw somebody out of something. Obama has screwed the 99% which makes him the man.

Chris Christie closed the Fort Lee offramp. that was a nice touch. Hillary has a trail of disreputable business dealings. She's ready, but Kerry? the guy is too nice to be president. maybe if they dig around they can find out he laid down fire on non-coms while he was in Nam. you have to be a real bastard to be president, and a bigger SOB than Putin, who is really just average i think.

but maybe I'm just looking at the last few and overlooking something. Carter? nice guys do finish last. well i didn't make this system, and i certainly don't give support to any bastardly types if i can help it by voting for them. but if i was walking down the street and i saw any of these guys coming toward me, i would cross to the other side.

Actually, Kerry gave a much better argument and performance than I expected ... since my opening opinion of Kerry is he's dumber than an empty ketchup bottle.

I didn't see him drawing any red, pink, or purple lines around anything but his cheekbone.

All he did was yabber about consulting with our friends and a veiled threat to throw Russia back out of the G8.  Well, that's all embarassing for the SoS himself to be talking about, if it's just that then let your press secretary read it to the camera.

I still want to hear some more European spokesdroids giving their opinions.

OTOH Putin's demanding that Ukrainian military bases in Crimea surrender, is that really necessary or desirable?  Putin is such a putz, it explains just why everyone in Ukraine is so worked up in the first place.
