US Official Claims 6,000 Russian Troops In Complete Control Of Crimea - Crisis Map Update

Tyler Durden's picture

While the images and local news have been suggesting that Russia is in control on the Crimean peninsula, US officials (according to Bloomberg) have confirmed this:

  • *RUSSIAN FORCES IN COMPLETE CONTROL OF CRIMEA: U.S. OFFICIAL
  • *RUSSIA HAS 6,000 TROOPS IN CRIMEA, U.S. OFFICIAL SAYS
  • *KERRY TO REAFFIRM SUPPORT FOR UKRANIAN SOVEREIGNITY, PSAKI SAYS

Obama, Merkel, and Cameron are now on a conference call to discuss this "fact" and officials have just reported that US Secretary of State John Kerry will visit Kiev tomorrow (though we suspect not Sevastopol):

  • U.S. IS FOCUSED ON ECONOMIC, POLITICAL AND DIPLOMATIC OPTIONS ON UKRAINE, NOT ON ANY POSSIBLE U.S. MILITARY INTERVENTION, U.S. OFFICIAL SAYS
  • *U.S. CONSIDERING SANCTIONS ON RUSSIAN BANKS, OFFICIAL SAYS

that pierre o. was funding the ukrainian opposition has been public knowledge since 2011; he posted it on his website.  boiling frogs is a positive addition to the world, imo, but this may not be the most vital story it ever carried.

snowden is in moscow, pierre o. funds moscow's opponents.  i don't see the natural match.

for greenwald's take see  https://firstlook.org/theintercept/dispatches/

greenwald's not perfect but he seems to be pissing off the right people.  ditto on taibbi.

Snowden better hope he's not a triple agent because historically things don't tend to fare well for them.

As for Taibbi, he's a slanderous weasel disparaging the 9/11 Truth Movement, so in my books he's a low-life.

You judge a tree by it's fruits:

So what do you really got Snowden/Greenwald/Taibbi?
(Other than funding by ostensible Soros-type Globalist operatives...)

Dude should really be spending more time on offense than defense considering all the ammunition he's sitting on but not using....

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/03/obama-drones-double-down_n_4208...

just as long as they are very far away, somebody else actually kills them, and there is very little chance their allies can get at him.

on the bright side, maybe obama will make it so the russians can't sell their oil or gas for dollars, just gold, like he tried on the iranians.  didn't think so.

Oh the usual, the government (and its cronies) were stealing from them (see former prez's gold stash) and they wanted closer ties to the west...then it ordered people holding peaceful demonstrations against that theft and sentiment to disperse, then passed a law making it illegal to protest that theft & inclination, then started shooting them down.

And here we are ;-)

Nmewn, you forgot the part where the 'peaceful protestors' who were paid to protest by the US (15 euros/20 if a student) were hijacked by the nationalist (nazi) right wing who broke into the armoury and took over the peaceful protest and now the American Neocons don't want egg on their face (it would take a lot of eggs to cover Kerry's face) so they can't back down from supporting the Ukrainian Nazi's who have made it illegal to speak Russian even though the south east of Ukraine are former Russina provinces given to the Ukraine in the '50's to dilute said Nazi's who helped Hitler fight the Russians in the '40's.

It's all very simple when you factor in the American Hegemony Neocons have no fucking clue about history (Ukraine hasn't really been independant since the 1400's), culture (almost half of Ukraine self identify as Russian) geography (where is Ukraine and why can't they be our debt serfs anyway?) and etiquette (why don't the Russians want us to put nukes on their border?)

I can't believe dipshits like Barry are going to cause WWIII. I would rather die from tetanus.

Sun, 03/02/2014 - 23:08 | 4499813 nmewn

Well, thats a fairly run-on paragraph/sentence...lets break it down.

Nmewn, you forgot the part where the 'peaceful protestors' who were paid to protest by the US (15 euros/20 if a student)

You have proof of this, of course?

"...were hijacked by the nationalist (nazi) right wing"

One has to be a rightwing socialist to be nationalist? The nazis were socialists by the way or Gregor Strasser (a dyed in the wool nazis) was lying. to the world..lol:

"We are socialists. We are enemies, deadly enemies, of today’s capitalist economic system with its exploitation of the economically weak, its unfair wage system, its immoral way of judging the worth of human beings in terms of their wealth and their money, instead of their responsibility and their performance, and we are determined to destroy this system whatever happens!"

Whoopsie, big difference from lounging under a tree watching everyone else work (the current communist/socialist ideal) and being forced to vork by zeee state, wouldn't you agree?

"...who broke into the armoury..."

"...and took over the peaceful protest..."

No one shot at government forces until they were fired upon.

"...and now the American Neocons don't want egg on their face (it would take a lot of eggs to cover Kerry's face)"

lol...agree on Kerry but the US, outside of the Budapest Memo, has no dog in the fight...Putin already broke it, read the memorandum of understanding for the Ukraine giving up its nukes.

"...so they can't back down from supporting the Ukrainian Nazi's..."

Again.

"...who have made it illegal to speak Russian even though the south east of Ukraine are former Russina provinces..."

Provinces? The whole of Ukraine was recognized as a distinct country by, wait for it, Russia. After the "utopian" communist Soviet Unions collapse.

"...given to the Ukraine in the '50's to dilute said Nazi's who helped Hitler fight the Russians in the '40's."

If it was given, its no longer Russian or the non-existent Soviet Union property...right?

That would make it, the Ukraine.

A long way to get to here, but thanks for helping me sort through it ;-)

the ukraine was part of the russian empire and the ussr for about as long as the u.s. has existed.  both krushchev and breshnev came from ukraine.  over three quarters of the population of crimea and far eastern ukraine speak russian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukraine#Language).

perhaps it's not such a good idea to attempt to encircle russia with an opposing military alliance (nato).  russia is touchy about invasions.  about the time they got over napoleon, hitler tried it and russia lost about one of every eight people.  decimate means one in ten.

I predict Odessa will be the BIG Flashpoint and we will see casualties there.  Its the only remaining port the West Ukrainians have a shot at, that is why they sent the ships there. But the region and city has many Russians.  It will be the first destination for NATO special forces masquerading as new Ukraine army.  The region around Odessa connects to Moldovan Transniester breakaway republic which has many many loyal Russian citizens that need an umbillical cord connection to Mother Russia

Though not directly about Ukraine some pertinent information concerning some actors on the stage including ties to Syria.

http://peoplesworld.org/germany-scandal-pornography-and-naked-truths/

...

Aside from expansion into Afghanistan and Africa, it was difficult to forget that manned German Patriot missiles, like those of the U.S., stand oiled and ready on the Turkish border to Syria. Or to forget that in the terrible turmoil in Ukrainian Kiev, German politicians have played a key role. Despite the slightly obscene jab at the European Union by assistant secretary of state Victoria Nuland, who was angered by European trespassing on presumed U.S. turf, that tough, tall boxer-hero of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, was built up and supported all the way by the Adenauer-Stiftung in Germany, an adjunct of  Merkel's party. She just welcomed him in Berlin for photo-ops and strategy talk - along with an ally from Kiev's city square. The third ally was evidently not invited, perhaps for being so blatantly anti-Semitic, with his Svoboda Party too close to its pro-Hitler antecedents. Maybe it was his gang which started up the most recent bloody renewal of hostilities.

...

And guess who is backing the Svoboda party why the US of course.

And to read more about Svoboda Party and the interm government in Ukraine they are integrating Neo-Nazis into the government including key posts. Read all about these bad actors here

Yep And now you know what that little tiff about fuck the EU was about. Both sides been plotting to destabilize the country and Germany wanted their dog punch drunk in since putting in Neo Nazis would have been a bit too much for even them public relations nightmare aside but the US had other ideas. You have to wonder just how fucking stupid the State Department and White House really are or is this on purpose to undermine the US from within through purposeful incompetence. Are they really that fucking stupid to back Neo-Nazi's not knowing the headache that causes Germany and how much it should alienate them from Israel at the same time. It seems a bit too much of incompetence to not be a calculated and treasonous move to undermine the US and it's 'national interests'.

One other tidbit from the article to expand on that thought.

The leaders were also in agreement on a matter of far greater significance, almost a tectonic drift in European and world political geography. According to President Joachim Gauck, German reticence on the world stage is out-of-date. At the recent 50th Security Conference in Munich, choosing his words with care, he stated, "We should not use our troops too quickly, but we must not let reservations based on Germany's past history stop us, together with the European Union, NATO, and the UN, from sending them in whenever necessary to maintain a world order which permits Germany to coordinate its interests with its basic values."

...

Time for Germany to put on the big boy lederhosen and put their own fucking boots on the ground to deal with this since our Nazi's are their Nazis through NATO and at the same time they aren't part of the UK/US/Russia memorandium of understanding concerning the sovereignty of Ukraine. It would also reaffirm Nazism is one of their 'basic values' while coordinating their interests.

Indeed. The Crimea has been Russian for centuries. It was 'gifted' to the Ukraine in 1954 as a rather underhanded response to increasing Ukrainian dissatisfaction with overly centralised Russian control (and who can blame them, given forced collectivised agriculture, the Holodomor, etc, etc, etc).

Kinda: "Here, dudes, you can have the Crimea as part of your country. As a gesture of friendship from Mother Russia! We're all good Communists together, engaged in a peaceful fraternal Union, after all! Please do not take too much notice of the fact that practically every motherfucker in the place is an ethnic Russian, which ups the percentage of them in the Ukraine from a few percent to close on 20. We can't help who happens to live there, after all!"

If it was me making the decision, I'd let them have it back, as long as they left the rest of the Ukraine alone. It's historically theirs and nearly every motherfucker there is still ethnic Russian.

That isn't what's gonna happen, of course. Too much common sense required. And a nice war is just the scapegoat needed to hide the real reason for the global economy tanking at the same time: the same greedy, sociopathic pricks who fucked up the economy are the ones that will profit from a lovely, hot war.

Makes you ashamed to share a species with them, doesn't it?

LOL.  That's what the appeasers said to Hitler when he was eyeing up the Sudatenland.  "They are all German speakers there so let Hitler have it, as long as he leaves the rest of Europe alone".  How did that work out for you?

The similarity isn't lost on me, believe me.

I happen to think Putin is rather more rational than that - or at least is playing a longer game than Hitler style scooping up of any territory that can't put up much of a fight... but the potential for a Sudetenland type annexation of at least eastern Ukraine does exist, I agree.

Can't see Putin being willing to give up a major airbase and a deep, warm water port unless he really has no alternative, though. So, whether he has any designs on territory further west, or not, I reckon he's in the Crimea to stay, no matter what the West thinks about the matter.

The US should intercede diplomatically, and not punatively as we are now.  The solution should be an easy sell.  Propose a national referendum in Ukraine, contingent on Russian withdrawl and obvious security assurances by the gov't in Kiev, on whether to allow the Crimea to seccede or not.  If it passes then the Crimeans can have a referendum on if they want to seccede.  How that would play out is obvious and practically set in stone.  Russia gets the Crimea.  The Crimea gets to be part of Russia.  Ukraine gets to live relatively intact and, in fact, much more whole with the subtraction of the Crimea than with, and skim pipeline income.  US gets what it (points of view may vary) wants with Ukraine swinging to Europe and another Nobel.

The USA, England, and Russia are the signatory to the Budapest Treat signed in 1993 guaranteeing Ukrainian sovereignty and integrity. The failure of the Obama USA and England exercise its treaty obligations will be a geopolitical catastrophe for the USA, an end of NATO, and collapse of US$ as the reserve currency.

It is that simple. The USA has lost in Iraq,  Afghanistan, Syria, and now the USA are selling down Ukraine. Our gay-loving community-organizer Commendante Obama has fucked up America big time!

Why China , Germany, Poland, etc., must respect and follower  the USA. If the USA behaves as POS? There will be a new world order without the USA and its driving force with Japan and Germany having no reasons to follow their post-WWII obligations.

Rearmed secular rebels take Damascus. The Russian base treaty obligations will then be assuned by the rebels who will be so appreciative of the Russians.

Loans from Russia are cut off. Loans from the IMF are still some weeks away. Gas prices to rise by 1/3. EU/US broke too.

Russia, on the other hand, has almost no national debt, plenty of oil and gas, and is in no hurry.

Meanwhile politicians in Crimea are talking about collecting the rent payments for Sevastopol themselves instead of letting them go to the illegitimate ganster puppet regime in Kiev.

We live in interesting times.

They're ideologically inbred. Ron Paul showed there's not a dime's worth of difference between the RNC and DNC handlers. Everyone of these "American leaders" has gone to an elite university and swallowed a bunch of Neo-Liberal Collectivist bullshit. The most pernicious bit of that common core of bullshit is that by emitting words they can change reality. Only action changes reality. Propaganda merely obfuscates it.

Democratic Progressive Propaganda does work when your Collectivist Fellow Travellers control the media and the Universities, but not so much when a hostile army takes up positions and says we don't give a shit what you have to say about it. Russia cannot afford NATO nukes in Ukraine. They will fight over it. No amount of Freedom House propaganda will change that. No amount of shit-testing caterwauling by the Femme-Merican Policy Establishment will change their minds. The USSA is not dealing with a bunch of Beta supplicants here.

Rice, Power, & Nuland believed their own ideological bullshit. And now Putin has called their bluff. You want the Ukraine, you're going to have to do more than stage another fake revolution. You're going to have to fight for it. This is not a good fight to pick, and these bitches (Obama included) have never been in a real fight.

Somebody is going to have to do some real diplomacy here. Bitching, bluffing and bribery won't cut it.

The Progressives  in the US control until they don't.  They're good at taking things over when people aren't looking, Education, Media, smaller Third-World Countries, etc.  They can spin a semi-convincing line of bullshit to justify their actions in the process.  Problem is, they don't really have any core competence, and can't maintain their winnings, so to speak.  The kids are beginning to wake up to the fact that a college education isn't worth the the debt load they'll carry when there's no jobs to be had, people are abandoning the MSM in droves, and the countries that have been overthrown seem to wind up in the hands of the people we were obstinably fighting.

I just kind of figure that these geniuses are going to screw things up so badly that they'll set the stage for a military strongman to start grabbing land while everybody's squabbling over tidbits.

It's like the Climate Change meme.  About the time the lights and heat go out in sub-freezing weather, people are going to suddenly start caring a whole lot less about "saving the planet" and a whole lot more about following someone who promises to put things in order.

It's actually pretty easy to destabilize an existing society/order.  The tricky part is controlling who takes power after the whole shithouse goes up in flames.  That's why rational people don't fuck with that shit without a _very_ good reason.  Of course, when you're dealing with Progressives, you're hardly dealing with rational people in the first place.

It is easy for you to say what is the smart decision with the hinsight that things worked out ultimately in Poland's favor. Had things gone a little different they wouldn't have endured a few years occupation, but rather potentially hundreds of years and God knows what slavic-hating Nazis might have concocted in that time. I suppose when you are getting shoveled into the cattle cars you will urge everyone to have 'brains' and live to fight again another day. History is replete with tribes and people that gave in and there was no greater power to come rescue them and they got shuffled along from place to place until they were so weak they disappeared.
