After Ukraine, Is This Country Next?

Tyler Durden's picture

Yields on Belarus government bonds have surged to near 10% this morning (up 130bps) and the "managed" Belarus Ruble has leaked further to new record lows against the US Dollar. One can't help but wonder what message the Russian actions are sending to other Eastern European nations but one thing is clear, capital is not comfortable there as bonds see the biggest price drop in almost 3 years.

Belarus Bonds seeing major outflows...

Belarus, led by ex-Soviet communist Alexander Lukashenko, has openly called on Russia to annex Belarus.  Vlad doesn't need troops... they'll willingly go to Russia.  Russia hasn't annexed Belarus because it doesn't want to inherit that financial shitstorm.  Just pull up USDBYR and you'll see that in the twelve years since I studied in Minsk, the BYR has dropped from 1750/USD to almost 10,000/USD today.  Vlad doesn't want Belarus.  Layman's 100% spot on... troops not needed.

My best guess is that Vlad looks at Lukashenko, who's able to maintain an extremely tight grip on the throats of the Belarussian people, and sees no reason to intervene there since Luke's doing such a great job of doing the Kremlin's work for them.

But, when Luke slips up like Yanni (no, no, the other "has been," Yanukovich), Vlad will restore order ala Crimea... but wait for the BYR to hit 20k first.  Then Vlad will be greeted as the liberator from another corrupt political regime.  They'll throw roses, not molotov cocktails.

How Sir Winston Churchill Starved 4 Million Indians

The author points out that Churchill, explaining why he defended the stockpiling of food within Britain, while millions died of starvation in Bengal, told his private secretary that ‘the Hindus were a foul race, protected by their mere pullulation from the doom that is their due.’ Pullulation, Mukerjee notes, means rapid breeding.

Mukerjee cites the notes from the British War Cabinet meetings that were released in 2006, which show that Churchill’s decision not to send food to starving Bengal was anchored on the analysis that, after the war, Europe would need a lot of food, and food prices would be high, and for Britain to import food at that time would prove costly. Moreover, surplus stocks built up in Britain by the denial of food to Indians would be worth a lot more on the world market after the war. On the basis of this analysis, Churchill resolved in 1942 to build up a stock of 27 million tons through civilian imports.

You would know that Indian food was stolen by Churchill if you could read - the usual story of banksters starving people by printing money is also there:

The famine that killed 4 million Indians in Bengal was orchestrated from outside. ‘Since 1939,’ Mukerjee wrote, ‘the United Kingdom had been drawing grain and manufactures from India for the war effort, and the colonial government had been printing money to pay for these purchases. The resulting inflation had combined with other factors to precipitate famine in early 1943.

This should be viewed as further evidence that "markets" are mere government tools.  There are no markets.

The impact on Russian "markets" is from global central bank action.  Putin has a chance here to assert the reality that his oil is more important than their paper.  He can refuse to take paper in payment, and that would shake the central bank cartel at its foundation.

Russia doesn't need to spend much since the world's wealth and power is located in the hands of a few oligarchs. Simply going to the source is the most effective ways these days. Last century things were a bit different. With the US less than 500 people control the whole nation. Same with EU. There you have the Goldman Sachs. Perhaps as few as one to deal with there.

In the old days the US made people believe that there was a national budget. All smoke and mirrors. No if you need to get something done you go directly to those in charge.

Why do you think they used the phone scene with Obama talking suposedly to Putin. Obama is a joke played on sheeple. He is the Totus. There wasn't anyone on the other end of the line.

It is Crimea, not the Ukraine.  Crimea is a Russian ethnic enclave. Why is the Crimea part of the Ukraine? It only became part of Ukraine when Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev arbitrarily gave the peninsula to his native land in 1954.  It hardly mattered until the Soviet Union broke up in 1991 and Crimea ended up in an independent Ukraine.
