Anybody remember the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia? Gluing Crimea to the Ukraine was another exercise of Communist era politics. What about Syria, Iraq, Jordan, nation states invented by the British? Of course once political and bureaucratic networks are established they become sacrosanct. It doesn't matter if it makes no sense. Political thugs never want to give an inch, they just want more. Well it doesn't matter until things fall completely apart and/or fighting breaks out.
The nation state model is broken, obsolete. Small countries can do quite well. There's no shortage of educated skilled people or capital for worthwhile ventures. Correction, there shouldn't be shortages of capital. The ever growing engines of corruption and consumption being by the current status quo combined with increasingly confiscatory Imperialism 2.0 are resulting in shortages.
But hey, it's a matter of priorities. Resources must go to western governments and banking cartels first. Then western stock markets and government contractors and unions and so on down the food chain to drip feed for the lumpenproles.
