Bitcoin Claims Its First "Real" Victim

Tyler Durden's picture

[UPDATE: Tech in Asia has updated the article to emphasize that suicide is only suggested and not certain]

The last few weeks have been dismally littered with two things. The virtual losses of virtual wealth from virtual currency speculation and the very real losses of very real humans with very real senior financial services positions. Sadly, as NewsWatch reports, tonight sees the two trends converge as the 28-year-old CEO of Singapore-based Bitcoin exchange First Meta has been found dead. The exact reason that may have led to the suicide is not known, and whether the Police have concluded that the cause of death is suicide is also unofficial.

Via NewsWatch,

According to Tech in Asia, Singapore-based Bitcoin exchange platform First Meta’s 28 year old CEO Autumn Radtke committed suicide.

Reasons are currently unknown.

First Meta is a Singaporean start up company that runs a exchange platform for virtual currencies such as Bitcoin. The news of suicide of its CEO Autumn Radtke spread on Facebook and Twitter, drawing attention from the BItcoin industry.

The exact reason that may have led to the suicide is not known, and whether the Police have concluded that the cause of death is suicide is also unofficial. First Meta has stated that an official announcement will be given by the company soon.

Before joining First Meta, Radtke was the Director of Business Development at Xfire – a company that develops IM systems for gamers. Radtke was also the Co-founder, Business Development at Geodelic Systems, Inc.

There have been 9 senior financial services deaths in recent weeks:

1 – William Broeksmit, 58-year-old former senior executive at Deutsche Bank AG, was found dead in his home after an apparent suicide in South Kensington in central London, on January 26th.

2- Karl Slym, 51 year old Tata Motors managing director Karl Slym, was found dead on the fourth floor of the Shangri-La hotel in Bangkok on January 27th.

3 – Gabriel Magee, a 39-year-old JP Morgan employee, died after falling from the roof of the JP Morgan European headquarters in London on January 27th.

4 – Mike Dueker, 50-year-old chief economist of a US investment bank was found dead close to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State.

5 – Richard Talley, the 57 year old founder of American Title Services in Centennial, Colorado, was found dead earlier this month after apparently shooting himself with a nail gun.

6 -Tim Dickenson, a U.K.-based communications director at Swiss Re AG, also died last month, however the circumstances surrounding his death are still unknown.

7 – Ryan Henry Crane, a 37 year old executive at JP Morgan died in an alleged suicide just a few weeks ago.  No details have been released about his death aside from this small obituary announcement at the Stamford Daily Voice.

8 - Li Junjie, 33-year-old banker in Hong Kong jumped from the JP Morgan HQ in Hong Kong this week.

9 - James Stuart Jr., a "very successful banker" and Former National Bank of Commerce CEO found dead (with no details of what caused the death) in Scottsdale, Az.

and numerous Bitcoin-related losses - from today's Flexcoin "bank" losses to the infamous Mt.Gox debacle:

As Wired notes,

... But beneath it all, some say, Mt. Gox was a disaster in waiting. Last year, a Tokyo-based software developer sat down in Gox’s first-floor meeting room to talk about working for the company. “I thought it was going to be really awesome,” says the developer, who also spoke on condition of anonymity. Soon, however, there were some serious red flags. ...

According to a leaked Mt. Gox document that hit the web last week, hackers had been skimming money from the company for years. The company now says that it’s out a total of 850,000 bitcoins, more than $460 million at Friday’s bitcoin exchange rates. When bitcoin enthusiast Jesse Powell heard this, he was reminded of June 2011.

Two blondes were in a bar watching the television when the news came on. It showed a guy on a bridge that was about to jump, obviously suicidal. "I'll bet you $10 he'll jump," said Betty.

"Bet you $10 he won't," replied Amber. Then, the guy on the television closed his eyes and threw himself off the bridge. The second blonde hands the first her money.

"I can't take your money," said Betty. "I cheated you. The same story was on the five o'clock news."

"No, no. Take it," said Amber. "I saw the five o'clock news too. I just didn't think the guy was dumb enough to jump again!"

In the USA First-Meta, and MT-GOX couldn't and didn't setup shop for legal reasons, they thought they were safe in ASIA to scam idiots, ... they were wrong.

GS & JPM learned the same lesson in CHINA, and they sold out and ran for their lives.

Clue #1 that Bitcoin was a setup should have been all the positive front page press it received.  Remember the week Overstock started accepting Bitcoin and sold a record amount of goods? I smell something fishy on this one.

But don't worry!  It's probably the exact same group(s) that are also involved in dive bombing gold and silver the past two years. I believe they will continue and do this until the whole economy implodes due to the non-ending manipulation and gaming by this or these group(s).

Just because someone was fun to be around doesn't mean there is some grand conspiracy committed by some intelligence agency.  Lots of people in the financial industry are bipolar--high highs and low lows.  It seemingly does not take much for such people to do harm to themselves.  I told you how this Bitcoin thing would play out.  You think 'hackers' stole the money over time?  Oh no, it was part of the scheme from the beginning.  I thought the buildup to the unwind would take another couple of years, but it topped out very fast in the end.  Until next time...

Flexcoin made the abrupt announcement on its website Tuesday, admitting that it had been robbed of 896 bitcoins after a thief or thieves managed to collect them from Flexcoins servers and transfer them to two bitcoin wallets — a unique string of numbers and letters that function similarly to an email address, and bitcoin's equivalent to individual bank accounts where customers store money.

At current market rates, the theft amounts to more than $600,000 US. The figure represents the bank's entire bitcoin holdings online, effectively wiping out any customers who held assets there.

It could literally replace all of our banks as we know it and nobody would have to 'use bitcoin' to use it.

Then maybe people can stop dying and we can have an economic revolution again.

It's based in Cyprus, where the banks haircutted everyone.

There's a bank that can be denominated in euros but is backed by bitcoins, you get a debit card and use it like a debit card. You can choose either to be tied to your euro value or fluctuate with the bitcoin market (ups and downs).

Gold is certainly the safest bet, given its track record, no arguments there.  If a technological breakthrough occurs impacting the scarcity/supply of gold, the amount of goods that can be traded for gold would decrease while its intrinsic properties remain unchanged.

No profit there. You need something other than gold: energy. Harvesting the oceans for less gold than you can find in rock will take more energy than all the solar+wind+nuclear+oil on Earth and you'll probably fuck up the water too.

Given that the water is far more essential for life than the gold, this process would be suicidal if it worked & it would drive us to energy poverty if it didn't.

Actually, it doesn't require breaking any laws of nature to create gold. All you need is some mercury and a neutron generator to induce elemental transmutation. Why do you think the gov't wants to keep all these old nuclear power plants going? Why does the gov't want to prevent most other countries from getting nuclear power, even if they are supposedly building nuclear power for peaceful purposes? All bitcoin 'bankikng' comes from SIM-CITY, virtual worlds, game-playing, ... virtual currency, where you could buy furniture for your virtual apartment, ... what do you expect 20 years of kids playing 'computer games', and now they're in their late 20's and early 30's in real world. Talking to them about something like 'physics', might as well talk to a dog about physics.

The virtual world any thing can be made right, or made up, all is virtual, love, money, stuff, ... its all as real as the internet.

Make no mistake here that that MT-GOX came from virtual game playing, and FIRST-META ( girl who died OP subject ) was running a business so people could trade SIM-CITY  money and LINDON-DOLLARS in out of dozens of virtual online worlds, and she apparently decided to use BITCOIN as her "RESERVE CURRENCY", after all everybody knew it was going to MILLION BUCKS per BTC, because fonestar said so.

The entire problem here is that when you take a 10 year old and put him in these virtual worlds for 20+ years, and then bring him to ZH, do you honestly think you can talk anything fucking real with them?

Even though they have lost their ass, and real people are being killed, and dying, and have thier life savings lost, ... not a one fucking cares. This is called Sociopath, in other words all these BITCOIN whores are sociopath's and they will never man up to it.

No, gold's value is not a price, it's what the atoms do.

I use gold in my teeth, electronics & soon it will be in nanogold catalysts that far outperform other industrial catalysts.

The reason it can be used as money is just part of the atomic properties to do with safe-handling, easy detection of purity & rarity over-all.

Gold has many values & only one small part of that is trade-value.

Yes, in the game world those that don't play by the rules get banned ( think ZH ) but in the real world those who don't play by the rules can take all your real money.

Math is not real but conceptual. It is not tangible.

I have never held an Ideal Sphere or an Ideal Circle. I cannot digest Integrals. I cannot drink a Differential Equation. I have not ever seen a Negative.

I have not ever defined anything that is South of the South Pole, where the only direction is North.

I can USE MATH to describe reality and make predictions. It is a language, an abstract concept, that can be used descriptively. But in, and of, itself it is not real.

In fact the Universe is much better described using the Complex Number System. But even a part of that is totally imaginary. (PUN)

Would you like to discuss Math with me, Fonestar???

I can infer the reality of God because of the inherent Mathematical Probabilities of existence are extremely close to an infinitesimal when considered as a Chance Event.

If the Universe was not manifested as a Chance event then it was manifested by design. It it was manifested by design then there was a designer.

As Roger Penrose, an esteemed colleague of Stephen Hawking writes, in his book, "The Emperor's New Mind", 1989; Michael Denton, Nature's Destiny, The New York: The Free Press, 1998, p. 9

This now tells how precise the Creator's aim must have been, namely to an accuracy of one part in 1010123. This is an extraordinary figure. One could not possibly even write the number down in full in the ordinary denary notation: it would be 1 followed by 10123 successive 0's. Even if we were to write a 0 on each separate proton and on each separate neutron in the entire universe- and we could throw in all the other particles for good measure- we should fall far short of writing down the figure needed.

Would you care to debate that with me?

I have previously exposed that God is Light and that this fulfills the requirements of Omnipotence, Omnipresence, and Omniscience (to the consternation of KirkNGC1701)

What is funny is that an ancient "backwards" people could write thet, "God is the Light. In Him there is no darkness." without any knowledge of Special Relativity. and NAILED the NECESSARY ATTRIBUTES ON THE SPOT. And this was accomplish by a "lucky guess"???

So if you want to go off on that tangent I am more than game for that. But this thread is about an unfortunate suicide of a Bitcoin CEO.

But I am more than happy to debate this.

It is only the PHYSICS...which is tangible, measurable, and real. And as the Good Lord knows I am a Empiricist at heart. (That stems from my own skepticism.)

And while the Math may be conceptual it is still such a good tool for making VALID descriptions, predictions and inferences.
